Dec 14, 2015Here's how much I love Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires: my only complaint is that there's no autosaving, which meant I once lost about half a continent. I figure that any time my complaints can be totally chalked up to user error, that speaks volumes about how good everything else is — and it explains why I think that if you're looking for one Warriors game that shows everything the franchise does well without getting bogged down by any of its weaknesses, Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires is the one to get.

Nov 27, 2015I came away from Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires extremely satisfied. The tactical elements outside of battle were well balanced as to be challenging while fair, and the combat carries over the best elements from the main game. It's a bit of a specific niche it's catering to -- fans of Dynasty Warriors combat and long-term strategy elements -- but if those two things are your jam, then Empires should have you hooked.

Nov 25, 2015More than anything else it's nice to see Koei Tecmo continue to support the PlayStation Vita. Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires won't convert anyone who isn't an existing fan of the series, and I've got to admit that after playing the recent Nobunaga's Ambition, I can't help but wish Koei localised the PlayStation Vita version of that instead, as I've already got a lot of Warriors games on my Vita, but nothing that approaches the depth of Nobunaga's Ambition. Those personal issues aside, this is a content-loaded, engaging, and entertaining entry into the Warriors series, and well worth playing for anyone who likes their action a little more cerebral.

Dec 1, 2015DW8: Empires is a great game, deep, with tons of contents and very fun. It balances action and strategy in a way only a few games can.
-
Nov 25, 2015Aside from its necessary graphical shortcomings, Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is a sublime fit on the Vita. Its methodical structure is a perfect match for portable play, allowing you to jump in and make some progress no matter how much time you decide to dedicate to the cause. Conquering China piece by piece has never been quite so addictive.

Dec 22, 2015You’d think that a series wouldn’t have a ton of new tricks up its sleeves 15 years in, but Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires is a pleasant surprise. While the core gameplay might still be a deal breaker for some, the strategic offerings add a new layer of depth, and importance, to the battles. It’s still repetitive, but there is plenty to like here.
-
Dec 18, 2015Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires is a stride in the right direction for the series. It adds layers of depth to the predictable combat and new features to expand gameplay. Unfortunately, it may not be enough to bring in new players or keep seasoned players interested. As a Vita port though, hack ‘n slash on the go compliments the handheld just fine.
-
Dec 9, 2015Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is a good tactical spin-off from the main franchise thanks to some strategic elements able to add depth to the overall experience. However, the gameplay is still the same and the walls of text are very difficult to read on the PS Vita 5 inches screen.
-
Nov 30, 2015The strategic Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires satisfies a very small group of fans with a good game on a functional portable version. This game probably feel generic and repetitive for some players but its tactical nature works very well on PS Vita and PS TV.
-
Dec 14, 2015Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is a typical hack-and-slash with an empire management side. Newcomers might be slightly disinterested by the repetitive nature of the game, but fans of the genre will find that it packs quite a bit of content and has a lot of replay value.
-
Dec 16, 2015For newer players who'll likely have an experience similar to mine, Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is not a place I'd recommend they start.
-
Dec 17, 2015Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is in need of serious polish.
-
Nov 29, 2015The Dynasty Warriors franchise is looking more than a little tired this time around: both in its last-gen visuals -- which look even muddier on Vita -- and in its dull reproduction of the same old combat system we've seen time and time again. Its strategic gameplay elements may be plentiful and offer the freedom to choose your own path, but Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires remains a stale experience.
-
Dec 15, 2015A bare bones concept, lacking any consequence to choosing to pursue what the game is supposed to be about: strategy. Only the most diehard of Dynasty Warriors fans will try it out, otherwise buyers are better suited to sticking with Dynasty Warriors 8.
-
Dec 17, 2015Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires fails to make the leap to portability, as it’s marred at every step by technical limitations and boring metagames. Lacking any of the endearing qualities of other Warriors titles, it’s hard to recommend it even to the most diehard musou enthusiast.
