Jul 29, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a solid in-between title for Soulslike fans. But if you’re looking for the next big step in the genre, or a Soulslike with a truly memorable identity, you’re better off looking elsewhere.
-
Aug 6, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers brings its own unique flavor to the crowded Soulslike genre without reinventing the wheel. Its atmosphere and intriguing mechanics are part of what makes this title stand out. However, it still needs polish in the technical department, and the limited enemy variety holds it back. Even so, it’s a game worth keeping on your radar.
-
Jul 28, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers features impressive level design and a responsive, satisfying combat system, making it a solid experience for fans of the Soulslike genre. However, it’s held back by a lack of innovation and low enemy variety, which leads to a sense of repetition over time.
-
Jul 28, 2025In a vacuum, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers would stand as a resounding success, especially when you consider that it was helmed by a relatively unknown developer. But, when compared to its genre contemporaries, it fails to reach the same impressive highs of the games it clearly holds reverence for.
-
Jul 25, 2025Another drop in the Soulslike well, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is if anything a spirited and colourful take on precedings. But lush visuals and a smattering of some tweaked mechanics don't really do much to differentiate from practically any other offering in the difficult action-adventure genre. One for the devout, perhaps, but nothing new to those that are getting Souls fatigue.
-
Jul 23, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a game that, despite its structure and initial difficulty, delivers a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Its rough edges and unpolished aspects are evident, but the core strengths - particularly its rewarding evasion-focused combat - elevate it. Though it feels like a product from a bygone era, its compelling gameplay moments make it a worthwhile journey.
-
Jul 23, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike that shines thanks to its very well designed combat and challenging bosses, but it is not at the same level of the greatest games within the genre.
-
Jul 22, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers offers intense boss battles and plenty of options to tackle the challenge, but it presents levels designed to drive you crazy and revolves around a poorly thought-out difficulty system. It's tricky rather than challenging, but if you can look past that, you'll find a soulslike game capable of satisfying your thirst for action.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a rough gem that, beneath a tough and unyielding exterior, offers a number of very interesting insights, making it worth playing for those who appreciate the genre.
-
Jul 22, 2025All in all, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers successfully distinguishes itself as worthy of attention for multiple reasons. Beyond its riveting gameplay and exceptional character customization, Wuchang crafts a vibrant, mystical, and interesting world deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Sadly, the game’s awful quest progression, storytelling mishaps, and occasionally overbearing level design keep the promising concepts, plot premise, and beautiful world from shining like they should. Nevertheless, Wuchang’s sheer excitement is too attractive and makes for a gameplay experience that fans of action RPGs and especially Soulslikes will not want to miss.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Souls-like with solid combat, well-designed bosses, and an art direction that improves as the game progresses, but it falls short in AI, performance, and exploration due to confusing maps. Still, it's worth the challenge for genre fans.
-
Jul 22, 2025It’s a welcome addition to the Soulslike genre with intense fights and interesting areas to explore. Some of the design options they took when making the most of the available technology, however, are hard to support.
-
Jul 24, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another good and worthwhile Souls-like with a rich setting and moreish combat. It might not capitalise on all of its potential, but it's an experience any hardcore fan of Souls will enjoy.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had such interesting promise, only to lose itself to building a game on frustration rather than learning and fun.
-
Oct 14, 2025Wuchang may not become a pillar to the genre, but the boss fights, combat system, soundtrack and the great usage of Chinese mythology show the potential of a debuting studio.
-
Aug 11, 2025I want to like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers but the myriad of frustrations pile up. The world design is clever, if occasionally hard to read. Whilst the emphasis on dodging makes for an aggressive play style, I always felt mobility was hampered by the lack of invincibility frames and enemies that really indulge in long attack strings. The skill tree allows for some free-wheeling experimentation and the way magic is handled interests me. There's some intriguing ideas on display but the execution doesn't gel for me.
-
Edge MagazineAug 8, 2025True, there is little here that should deter the Souls veteran in search of a new challenge to add to the ever-growing pile. And while we may never be quite as interested in uncovering the backstory of our mute amnesiac as in retailoring her skillset or wardrobe, Wuchang does a commendable job of draping the Soulslike in eastern garments - provided the red mist doesn't have you tearing them asunder. [Issue#414, p.104]
-
Aug 5, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a very uneven game that forces you to bump into unnecessary walls, making it very difficult for beginners. However, the difficulty is reduced to a minimum once you learn which style works best against each boss. There is little to say about the game's story because it is never interesting.
-
Jul 23, 2025I quite like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, but when I’m not playing it, I’m not eager to return. Soulslike games are a dime a dozen in 2025, and need a truly unique aesthetic or hook to capture an audience. I’m not sure Wuchang has enough of either, and the changes that are present don’t really elevate Wuchang’s combat and progression above its contemporaries. There are far worse Soulslikes than Wuchang, but there are better ones too.
-
Jul 23, 2025Efforts to build its own identity work well at times, but suffer from some technical weaknesses that prevent it from reaching another level, compounded by graphics that fall short of expectations on the PS5 Pro.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers wears its inspirations a little too proudly on its sleeves, not to the point of the original plagiarism claims, but enough to fail to stand out in an increasingly saturated market. The game’s cultural authenticity is commendable, but it leans too heavily on familiar tropes. The middling technical performance is just the cherry on top.
-
Jul 22, 2025Familiarity stalks you at every turn in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a competent, cool and pretty soulslike with a nice twist on death but few true surprises.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is enjoyable enough without its performance troubles, but with them, they’re a major drag on the overall game. Wait for them to be ironed out in post-launch patches and you’ll find a decent, if formulaic experience.
-
Jul 22, 2025There’s plenty to enjoy about Wuchang, but it is not a game for the casual soulslike enjoyer. It’s a game for the soulslike sickos. I’m usually right there alongside them, but frustrations upon frustrations sour the whole experience.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers offers little to no original ideas and fails to successfully mimic its biggest sources of inspiration.
-
Jul 28, 2025A wearingly competent Soulslike that seems to have no interest in inventing anything of its own and which is nowhere near as refined as FromSoftware’s best games.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang’s fantastical reimagining of the Shu province during the late Ming Dynasty aims for the wondrously intertwined structure of Dark Souls’s Lordran but instead proves exhaustingly convoluted.

Jul 22, 2025Wuchang is a great effort by Leenzee Games. While the game won't revolutionize the Soulslike genre, it does the next best thing by offering some ideas that they, or maybe another developer, can refine. Maybe it will become a mainstay for the genre in future games. If anything, I believe a Wuchang sequel could be an incredible game if it happens. But right now, the formula just isn't there yet.
-
Jul 22, 2025Between its weapon options, variety of skills, and abundance of spells, it features a layered combat system with engaging playstyles for everyone. Instead of feeling squishy and defenseless, like in some Soulslikes, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers makes me feel as badass as you’d expect a pirate warrior to be.
