Aug 7, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a thoughtful, stylish, and confident soulslike that knows exactly what it wants to be. With excellent level design, an atmospheric world rooted in Chinese mythology, and plenty of original ideas, it feels like far more than just a cheap Dark Souls imitation. While technical issues and a few unfortunate design choices hold it back from true greatness, it still stands out as one of the strongest entries in the genre – sure to satisfy both seasoned veterans and newcomers to challenging action RPGs.
-
Jul 23, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers improves the souls-like formula and adds enough to make the game hard to put down. It's fun investigating different systems and using different builds whenever you want. The learning curve is steep and the story isn't that good compared to other aspects. If you are looking for a new souls-like, pass this game up at your own peril.
-
Jul 23, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an innovative souls-like with deep combat and dynamic systems that add a lot of the depth to the overall experience. The 'Madness Gauge' and the Inner Demon manifestation is quite a groundbreaking way to transform death into a powerful gameplay mechanic. If you are looking for a new souls-like with fun, fast-paced combat, then Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will definitely check all of your boxes.
-
Jul 22, 2025A remarkably competent first game from another hugely promising Eastern developer, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has charm and grit in spades. It creatively reinvents the genre’s character progression template and serves up some extremely accomplished high-octane action gameplay that’s rich in flashy skills, impactful magic and dance-like precision. The scope of what’s on offer is made all the more appealing by the low price point: one that does a disservice to the breadth of content offered by this immaculate experience. For fans of action RPGs, this is a no-brainer.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn't soar all the way to FromSoftware heights, but it comes darn close. What's presented here is likely the best traditional Soulslikes I've ever played from a competitor, and well worth checking out for any fan of the genre. At its core, it's a brutal game with lots of build variety, but can eventually be trivialized if you know how to exploit some of your options. Still, it never stops being fun and interesting, and melee players will have great challenges in spades. Occasional "frustrations" will arise during your experience, but it's typically nothing we don't let FromSoftware get away with time and time again. Bottom line, if you want a brilliantly interconnected Soulslike map with plenty of great bosses and overall design, this is another fresh genre option that shows the field is truly beginning to close the gap.
-
Jul 22, 2025Sometimes it felt like I was losing hours of playtime just to coordinate these skill trees. And its incredibly generous attitude towards respecing is a wonder, letting the player easily change and try new things without being punished. Wuchang is a Soulslike that mutes some of the genre’s stricter precepts without sanding away all of the friction or rough edges, and that should really help this fallen feather float.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the best soulslike game since 2023’s Lies of P. Developer Leenzee has handled almost everything expertly, from intricate level design that intelligently loops back on itself to thrillingly fast-paced combat that introduces some very fun defensive elements. It’s also a game that really makes you think about your loadout on a per-level basis, with status afflictions and damage types playing an important role. Some frustrating moments aside, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an essential soulslike experience.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a bona fide Soulslike that has deep combat mechanics and unique progression systems that synergize perfectly to create one of more satisfying gameplay loops in the genre. This is further reinforced by giving the player the power to freely experiment with builds and create their own unique way to play. There are some nitpicks here and there, as well as the difficulty spiking in certain areas, but all that is moot with how well packaged everything is.
-
Aug 26, 2025Newbies to soulslikes may want to look elsewhere, as boss fights can feel extremely punishing, and even with all of the experience I have with these games, I found a few bosses absolutely brutal and ridiculous in their attack patterns. Another way of looking at Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is this: if a Souls game never existed and this hit store shelves, we’d all be clamoring about what a marvel and game-changer this is. Although extremely paint-by-numbers, fun is fun.
-
Jul 25, 2025Nobody saw it coming, but Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has ended up being one of 2025’s biggest surprises. When we tried it out at Summer Game Fest back in June, we knew it had potential as a solid Souls-like, but we didn’t expect it to be this good. he Chinese studio Leenzee didn’t just try to copy the Souls formula, they really took the time to understand what makes the genre tick, and then built something that feels deeply rooted in Chinese culture. That unique identity is one of its biggest strengths, and it brings a refreshing brightness and atmosphere you don’t usually see in these kinds of games. Technically, Wuchang Fallen Feathers also delivers, it’s stable, smooth, and well put together. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the game looks stunning, with beautiful panoramas and a nice variety of environments. Now, sure, it’s not perfect. Some parts can get a bit frustrating, the enemy variety isn’t always amazing (though the boss fights are seriously cool), and there are a few difficulty spikes that feel a bit off. But honestly, those flaws don’t take away from the overall experience.
-
Jul 25, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a worthy representative of the soulslike genre. For fans of digital suffering – probably the most interesting premiere of this year next to The First Berserker: Khazan. For the rest – a worthwhile title.
-
Jul 23, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a dynamic and challenging soulslike that combines a handful of original ideas with many systems refined within the genre over the past years. While not all of its solutions feel fully successful, this steeped in Asian aesthetics game is impressive and stands as a commendable debut from Chinese studio Leenzee. A must-play for any fan of games inspired by the works of FromSoftware.
-
Jul 22, 2025China is on a roll and nothing can stop it. Maybe WUCHANG won’t create as much buzz as Wukong but it certainly left a stong impression on me with it’s brilliant level design, art direction and elegant action. It’s the soulslike game that has it’s own unique identity and hopefully a franchise starter like Nioh. Play it, you won’t regret it.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a solid Soulslike that builds on FromSoftware’s proven formula while introducing a few fresh ideas of its own. Packed with fast-paced combos, flashy magic attacks, and thrilling, well-designed boss battles, Wuchang delivers a satisfying experience that makes its minor shortcomings easy to overlook.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers isn't perfect, but it doesn't need to be to stand among the best in the Soulsborne genre. It doesn't just mimic what makes these games fun but expands on the formula that few others could. Challenging gameplay, riveting exploration, and unique control mechanics help to elevate Wuchang well above the run-of-the-mill Soulsborne clone. Wuchang more than deserves its own franchise.
-
Jul 22, 2025As a Soulslike player with tens of thousands of hours invested in the genre, I came away from Wuchang: Fallen Feathers with a complex mix of emotions. It’s one of the best-looking of the recent Soulslikes, and when its combat feels balanced, it is a lot of fun. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is encumbered by a few too many mechanics, sluggish animations, boss fights that need a tune up and slow progression. But it’s also a value-priced, substantial game with multiple endings and the potential for long-term play beyond the credits. It treads extremely familiar ground to be sure. Its greatest appeal might be to those devoted Soulslike players who are looking for an unadulterated old school challenge with up-to-date production values and new systems to learn.
-
Sep 10, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a visually stunning Soulslike that dazzles with its Unreal Engine 5 environments and ambitious new systems, but it often stumbles under the weight of its own mechanics. The Madness disease adds a unique twist to combat, though its mandatory nature quickly turns frustrating, especially in boss fights. Slow animations, unbalanced encounters, and bland NPCs hold the experience back, yet for dedicated fans seeking an uncompromising old-school challenge wrapped in modern visuals, Wuchang delivers a substantial, value-priced adventure.
-
Aug 10, 2025If you like soulslike games and are not allergic to feathers - Wuchang is a must-play.
-
Aug 8, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers falls short of being a groundbreaking game, yet it exudes a unique and compelling charisma.
-
Aug 7, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is certainly not the pinnacle of Soulslike gaming. But it is a solid entry and I loved its fabulously staged game world and feminine grace. The game is hard, but never unfair, and with the huge skill tree there is still plenty for me to do (...) If you are looking for a Soulslike with East Asian flair, a stylish protagonist and some cool, crazy bosses, I can definitely recommend Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
-
Aug 4, 2025Thanks to its stunning visuals, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers certainly makes a good first impression. Its gameplay is what will keep you hooked in the long-run, though, even if it is perhaps a little too derivative of the early Souls games by FromSoftware. Still, being able to freely respec your character here is a fantastic touch, allowing you to experiment if a boss is proving to be a tough cookie to crack.
-
Aug 1, 2025Leenzee has built an excellent foundation with Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and proven themselves as worthy competitors in the soulslike space. Although the game may not deliver meaningful innovation, it was able to nail the trademark combat and exploration fans have grown to love. The future is bright for these developers, and a sequel could propel them to new heights.
-
Jul 24, 2025If you’re hoping for something that shatters expectations or tells a deeply personal story, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn’t quite soar—it just glides comfortably in familiar skies.
-
Jul 23, 2025While these complaints might dampen the overall experience, ultimately, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a great experience filled with far more satisfying battles than frustrating ones, wonderful ideas, and truly gorgeous locations. Considering this is Leenzee's debut title, I have extremely high hopes for the studio's future endeavors, and even Wuchang itself, assuming it receives a few needed adjustments. However, even as it exists now, Wuchang is absolutely a game I'd recommend to soulslike fans, so long as they don't mind getting a bit sweaty.
-
Jul 23, 2025In terms of overall design, I really feel like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers falls firmly in the "solid and fun but not exceptional" category. While the boss fights are fun, they didn't knock off my socks. I had a good time with it, and it's a solid entry in the Soulslike genre. It does its job quite well, but it doesn't really stand out from the crowd, either. It has some great design choices. I hope to see other games in the genre adapt in the future, but otherwise, it's a fairly by-the-numbers Souls game that is a good time but a little too safe for its own good.
-
Jul 23, 2025Between Lies of P, Black Myth: Wukong and, now, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Asian development studios are shaking up the Souls-like genre, even though they jumped ship along the way. Yet another iteration of a genre in its own right that needs no introduction, Leenzee's creation finds the perfect balance between a Souls-like that returns to its roots and a game whose genre must reinvent itself or risk becoming boring. Ultimately, the experience promised by Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is honest, robust and sincerely entertaining, if not revolutionary. It's a shame because its very good ideas aren't missing much to make it a flagship of the genre.
-
Jul 23, 2025This AA soulslike offers a beautiful yet brutal journey through a richly atmospheric Ming Dynasty China, with strong combat mechanics, varied builds, and striking Unreal Engine 5 visuals, although it's held back by occasional lack of polish, underwhelming side quests, and the absence of a map.
-
Jul 22, 2025More than just "another Soulslike", Wuchang Fallen Feathers delivers a solid trip in Antic China with several with its own mark on this genre. Just remains few tweaks and here we go.
-
Jul 22, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a surprise in the soulslike genre and proves that China has the potential to captivate global audiences. While it doesn’t reinvent the formula and suffers from technical issues, it stands out thanks to its stunning setting, fast combat and excellent level design. It’s a challenging and visually striking journey that made us suffer, in the best possible way.
-
Jul 22, 2025While not entirely revolutionary, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a standout Soulslike that truly captures the essence of the genre with impressive depth and originality. While its steep difficulty and vague quest structure may intimidate newcomers, it still serves as a strong entry point for non-Souls fans craving for a challenge. Leenzee’s mastery of the formula, combined with rich dark fantasy lore and varied builds, makes it a compelling addition to the overcrowded genre, capable of making even veteran Souls players break a sweat.
-
Jul 22, 2025While I don’t think Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is going to become the sudden favourite of soulslike fans, I can see it getting plenty of time in the sun. The issues I felt are, in the grand scheme of things, relatively minor and can all be worked around, or even patched out by the developers. Which leaves me with an utterly engaging world, filled with sheer beauty, and plenty of fresh ideas.
-
Jul 22, 2025With its fast-paced, dynamic, and flexible combat and a best-in-class skill tree that allows for a ton of build experimentation and customization, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an extremely respectable debut soulslike for developer Leenzee Games. Some of the later bosses feel frustratingly lacking in chances to capitalize on opportunities for damage, and I would’ve enjoyed fewer “Surprise! You’re dead!” kinds of moments. But while those feather-ruffling issues lead to some rough patches, none are abrasive enough to keep this innovative take on a hugely popular genre from soaring with some of the greats.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn't exactly rewrite the soulslike gameplay design, but I honestly think it brings enough to the table to justify itself. With its fantastic Impetus Repository levelling system, I was able to build and rebuild Wuchang however I liked and fully explored its complex and flexible combat system. Admittedly, some mechanics are somewhat of a mixed bag, ranging from the delightful Skyborn Might resource which rewards aggressive play, to the more annoying Inner Madness feature that makes the player character a bit more of a glass cannon than I would have liked. Overall, however, those looking for a deep new soulslike to get stuck into, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is pretty damn great.
-
Jul 22, 2025Anyone who enjoys soulslikes should not skip Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and it's also perfect for those looking to get into the genre.
-
Jul 22, 2025A surprisingly fast and aggressive Soulslike with enough creativity to excite, but fundamentally, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn't subvert the genre or offer enough to break free of its inspirations.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is yet another great Soulslike with an entertaining and satisfying combat system that's impossible to put down. I wish its boss fights would break the mould a little more, but the depth of the Madness feature makes even the more irritating areas worth the pain…This is the next challenge that fans of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Black Myth: Wukong need to face. You’ll probably end up using swear words you didn’t even realize you knew, but if you can stomach the difficulty, you’ll be rewarded with the standout Soulslike of 2025.
-
Jul 22, 2025The low-resolution textures don't detract from the sheer beauty of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Being a proud Souls-like game, it offers challenging combat — with unpleasant difficulty spikes — and exploration through interconnected environments, but character progression goes beyond the genre's formula, featuring a large skill tree that centralizes the various aspects of evolution and can be redefined at will to modify your approach and experiment with different builds.
-
Jul 22, 2025Good copy from the Leenzee studio, which certainly offers us a game that fully assumes shamelessly copying the work of FromSoftware, but which also manages to add a more personal layer to give us excellent handling and very enjoyable gameplay systems. Add to that solid technical performance on console and a well-crafted and captivating Chinese setting, and we have here an excellent surprise, undoubtedly one of the most effective and enjoyable Souls-likes of recent years. A real favorite.
-
Jul 22, 2025For true soulslike fans, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a strong recommendation — even a must-play. It might not be the absolute best soulslike out there, but developer Leenzee has delivered a very solid game on many fronts. What really stands out is the well-balanced mix between exploration and intense combat. Add to that the varied environments, plenty of mechanics to tinker with, and smooth-feeling fights, and you've got a compelling package. Where things do fall short, however, is the game’s performance — even on the PlayStation 5 Pro, it struggled to run smoothly. But if you can look past that, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is definitely worth your time.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an excellent first attempt for Leenzee that is sure to make any Soulslike fan happy.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers delivers satisfying combat for Soulslike fans but stumbles with technical issues and a too familiar story. Still, it offers rewarding fights and solid replay value through its multiple endings.
-
Jul 22, 2025Its opening hours may frustrate you in how risk-averse those initial sections seem, but bearing with Wuchang: Fallen Feathers ultimately reveals a deep experience that proves there’s still room for more soulslikes when the quality is there.
-
Jul 22, 2025No, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers certainly does not reinvent the wheel. Leenzee clearly draws inspiration–in many aspects, even meticulously–from the acclaimed works of genre pioneers FromSoftware. However, Wuchang implements its obvious inspirations extremely competently, enriching them with a handful of interesting ideas of their own, thus keeping genre fans thoroughly entertained for 30 to 40 hours.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is already poised to be one of the most memorable experiences of the year with its mechanical depth, replayability and sheer joy of action. Unmissable for genre regulars and a great opportunity for all players with Game Pass, it heralds the birth of a new legend in the cursed lands of Shu.
-
Jul 22, 2025Anyone put off recent Soulslikes by a perceived lack of challenge need not worry about Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a solid addition to the soulslike genre. With a well-connected map that emphasizes exploration and an intense combat system focused on precision and adaptation, the game delivers challenging moments. While some fights can be frustrating due to the excessive number of simultaneous on-screen elements, the overall result is a recommended title for action RPG fans looking to test their reflexes and strategies.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang might be rough around the edges, but the interesting gameplay mechanics and unique setting made it standout amongst the dozens of Soulslike around it, it is just strong at where it needs to be.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a souls-like game that takes us to a fictional ancient China based on folklore and mythology, but it also puts some spins on the formula that make this an interesting action-RPG in its own right.
-
Jul 27, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers brings creative mechanics to the soulslike formula, offering dynamic combat, flexible customization, and a unique corruption system. While its core ideas show promise, the game struggles with uninspired bosses, confusing exploration, and technical limitations. It doesn't reach genre-defining heights but stands out by trying something different.
-
Aug 8, 2025It’s very competent and enjoyable, but much of it feels like Soulslike junk food; tasty with a few neat ideas, but nothing will stick with me compared to more substantial offerings. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers may not revolutionize the genre, but it’s a good rendition of a favorite song.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers does a lot of things right and manages to stand out in a genre as crowded as soulslike games, but it also tries to take on too much, and that ends up costing it. In any case, fans of the genre (and especially of games like Bloodborne, Sekiro, or even Black Myth: Wukong) shouldn't hesitate.
-
Jul 22, 2025Fallen Feathers is a good action RPG with brutal, impulsive combat, impressive bosses, well designed game world and nice graphics. But in the end, it can't fully compete with the best Soulslikes, which is why the game does not possess the status as a must-play. But if you can't get enough of this kind of game, Wuchang is still a good choice.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers doesn’t redefine the soulslike genre, nor does it aim to. But with its eye-catching visuals and flashy action, it offers a satisfying experience for players seeking style and spectacle in their soulslike adventures.
-
Aug 8, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers offers a compelling story with deep lore, although it does take a while to get going. Nevertheless, the game has plenty to offer in terms of combat, level design, challenge, and interesting systems to keep the gameplay varied. Technically, it falls a little short due to low resolutions and inconsistent textures, but ultimately that doesn't detract from the pure gameplay, which is more than solid.
-
Jul 31, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers may not be overly impressive out of the gates, and could at first glance appear like just another Soulsborne ripoff. But persist and the game will open up and demonstrate its true character, with plenty of freedom to build and customise your skillset and exploit some of the unique mechanics at the core of the experience. Some of the level design is a little obtuse for its own good, and a handful of bosses need to calm the fuck down, but this is a competent and mostly confident opening foray from a development outfit that should now firmly be in the gaming’s public eye.
-
Jul 23, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a difficult product to classify. While the developers at Leenzee Games have stuck too closely to FromSoftware's original formula, even imitating its narrative style, the Chinese team deserves credit for trying (in some cases) to shake things up when it comes to gameplay. Unfortunately, not everything works as it should, especially technically, and the difficulty curve is a bit uneven. That said, we're confident that fans of the genre will appreciate it despite all its limitations.
-
Jul 23, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is simply a must-play video game for any fan of the soulslike genre, especially for those who enjoyed FromSoftware's classic "soulsborne" titles. The developers at Leenzee have captured nearly all the core principles of the original Dark Souls, crafting a Chinese mythology-inspired world reminiscent of Lordran and Yharnam. They’ve delivered challenging level design and a solid action combat system in an atmosphere that is cryptic, dark, and packed with bosses, secrets, and quests that are anything but straightforward. In terms of philosophy and structure, it might just be the best soulslike ever made outside the stewardship of the genre’s original creators. However, it remains deeply rooted in the past—and not always for the right reasons: beyond being technically outdated and at times rough around the edges, it’s a game so “old school” that it can even feel archaic. The execution may be unpolished but it manages to capture the most authentic, classic essence of its inspiration like no other before it.
-
Jul 22, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a solid soulslike title, though it lacks the standout features needed to distinguish itself among the many games inspired by FromSoftware’s successes. Given its modest budget, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers combines decent artistic direction with a handful of original ideas, managing to entertain without delivering any major highs but providing an overall honest experience. The game offers an interesting progression system, which unfortunately clashes at times with some shortcomings in the combat mechanics—particularly inconsistent parrying. Still, there are several intriguing aspects, such as the Temperance mechanic, the skill tree, the wide variety of weapons, and the Fury system that introduces the Inner Demon. At times, the game feels a bit overloaded with features, risking a somewhat scattered experience. However, with enough discipline (and believe me, you’ll need it), players can enjoy themselves without focusing too much on the story, which is not always particularly inspired. For those already familiar with soulslikes, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers offers a fresh challenge that may not become a landmark in the genre, but definitely has something unique to contribute.
-
Jul 22, 2025While WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers can be a fairly rugged souls-like suffering from mismanaged balancing and performance, its strengths in combat design and exploration truly excel once they hit their stride. Throw in intricate character customization with plenty of significant player choice, and you have an execution of the genre that will assuredly gel with souls-like enthusiasts. As it stands, WUCHANG can bite off a bit more than it can chew, though it shines more often than not.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a must play for souls fans. Come for the combat, stay for the lore and the environments. It’s hell, but you’ll relish it.
-
Jul 29, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a solid in-between title for Soulslike fans. But if you’re looking for the next big step in the genre, or a Soulslike with a truly memorable identity, you’re better off looking elsewhere.
-
Aug 6, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers brings its own unique flavor to the crowded Soulslike genre without reinventing the wheel. Its atmosphere and intriguing mechanics are part of what makes this title stand out. However, it still needs polish in the technical department, and the limited enemy variety holds it back. Even so, it’s a game worth keeping on your radar.
-
Jul 28, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers features impressive level design and a responsive, satisfying combat system, making it a solid experience for fans of the Soulslike genre. However, it’s held back by a lack of innovation and low enemy variety, which leads to a sense of repetition over time.
-
Jul 28, 2025In a vacuum, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers would stand as a resounding success, especially when you consider that it was helmed by a relatively unknown developer. But, when compared to its genre contemporaries, it fails to reach the same impressive highs of the games it clearly holds reverence for.
-
Jul 25, 2025Another drop in the Soulslike well, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is if anything a spirited and colourful take on precedings. But lush visuals and a smattering of some tweaked mechanics don't really do much to differentiate from practically any other offering in the difficult action-adventure genre. One for the devout, perhaps, but nothing new to those that are getting Souls fatigue.
-
Jul 23, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a game that, despite its structure and initial difficulty, delivers a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Its rough edges and unpolished aspects are evident, but the core strengths - particularly its rewarding evasion-focused combat - elevate it. Though it feels like a product from a bygone era, its compelling gameplay moments make it a worthwhile journey.
-
Jul 23, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike that shines thanks to its very well designed combat and challenging bosses, but it is not at the same level of the greatest games within the genre.
-
Jul 22, 2025WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers offers intense boss battles and plenty of options to tackle the challenge, but it presents levels designed to drive you crazy and revolves around a poorly thought-out difficulty system. It's tricky rather than challenging, but if you can look past that, you'll find a soulslike game capable of satisfying your thirst for action.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a rough gem that, beneath a tough and unyielding exterior, offers a number of very interesting insights, making it worth playing for those who appreciate the genre.
-
Jul 22, 2025All in all, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers successfully distinguishes itself as worthy of attention for multiple reasons. Beyond its riveting gameplay and exceptional character customization, Wuchang crafts a vibrant, mystical, and interesting world deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Sadly, the game’s awful quest progression, storytelling mishaps, and occasionally overbearing level design keep the promising concepts, plot premise, and beautiful world from shining like they should. Nevertheless, Wuchang’s sheer excitement is too attractive and makes for a gameplay experience that fans of action RPGs and especially Soulslikes will not want to miss.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Souls-like with solid combat, well-designed bosses, and an art direction that improves as the game progresses, but it falls short in AI, performance, and exploration due to confusing maps. Still, it's worth the challenge for genre fans.
-
Jul 22, 2025It’s a welcome addition to the Soulslike genre with intense fights and interesting areas to explore. Some of the design options they took when making the most of the available technology, however, are hard to support.
-
Jul 24, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another good and worthwhile Souls-like with a rich setting and moreish combat. It might not capitalise on all of its potential, but it's an experience any hardcore fan of Souls will enjoy.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had such interesting promise, only to lose itself to building a game on frustration rather than learning and fun.
-
Oct 14, 2025Wuchang may not become a pillar to the genre, but the boss fights, combat system, soundtrack and the great usage of Chinese mythology show the potential of a debuting studio.
-
Aug 11, 2025I want to like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers but the myriad of frustrations pile up. The world design is clever, if occasionally hard to read. Whilst the emphasis on dodging makes for an aggressive play style, I always felt mobility was hampered by the lack of invincibility frames and enemies that really indulge in long attack strings. The skill tree allows for some free-wheeling experimentation and the way magic is handled interests me. There's some intriguing ideas on display but the execution doesn't gel for me.
-
Edge MagazineAug 8, 2025True, there is little here that should deter the Souls veteran in search of a new challenge to add to the ever-growing pile. And while we may never be quite as interested in uncovering the backstory of our mute amnesiac as in retailoring her skillset or wardrobe, Wuchang does a commendable job of draping the Soulslike in eastern garments - provided the red mist doesn't have you tearing them asunder. [Issue#414, p.104]
-
Aug 5, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a very uneven game that forces you to bump into unnecessary walls, making it very difficult for beginners. However, the difficulty is reduced to a minimum once you learn which style works best against each boss. There is little to say about the game's story because it is never interesting.
-
Jul 23, 2025I quite like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, but when I’m not playing it, I’m not eager to return. Soulslike games are a dime a dozen in 2025, and need a truly unique aesthetic or hook to capture an audience. I’m not sure Wuchang has enough of either, and the changes that are present don’t really elevate Wuchang’s combat and progression above its contemporaries. There are far worse Soulslikes than Wuchang, but there are better ones too.
-
Jul 23, 2025Efforts to build its own identity work well at times, but suffer from some technical weaknesses that prevent it from reaching another level, compounded by graphics that fall short of expectations on the PS5 Pro.

Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers wears its inspirations a little too proudly on its sleeves, not to the point of the original plagiarism claims, but enough to fail to stand out in an increasingly saturated market. The game’s cultural authenticity is commendable, but it leans too heavily on familiar tropes. The middling technical performance is just the cherry on top.

Jul 22, 2025Familiarity stalks you at every turn in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a competent, cool and pretty soulslike with a nice twist on death but few true surprises.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is enjoyable enough without its performance troubles, but with them, they’re a major drag on the overall game. Wait for them to be ironed out in post-launch patches and you’ll find a decent, if formulaic experience.

Jul 22, 2025There’s plenty to enjoy about Wuchang, but it is not a game for the casual soulslike enjoyer. It’s a game for the soulslike sickos. I’m usually right there alongside them, but frustrations upon frustrations sour the whole experience.

Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers offers little to no original ideas and fails to successfully mimic its biggest sources of inspiration.
-
Jul 28, 2025A wearingly competent Soulslike that seems to have no interest in inventing anything of its own and which is nowhere near as refined as FromSoftware’s best games.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang’s fantastical reimagining of the Shu province during the late Ming Dynasty aims for the wondrously intertwined structure of Dark Souls’s Lordran but instead proves exhaustingly convoluted.
-
Jul 30, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an ambitious and often pretty game that suffers from poorly balanced combat, terrible design choices, and some truly awful technical glitches. This one is for diehard fans of the genre, and even they should consider replaying something else first.
-
Jul 22, 2025Wuchang: Fallen Feathers attempts to imitate the greats of the genre but doesn't seem to understand what it is that makes them great, resulting in a game that is desperately lacking not only in identity, but in enjoyment.
-
Jul 22, 2025Despite a fascinating premise, one inspired by both Chinese folklore and real-life history, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers resolutely fails to deliver on any of its initial early promise. This is a Soulslike by the numbers, one hampered by a cornucopia of PS5 performance issues that plague the game like a disease.

Jul 22, 2025Wuchang is a great effort by Leenzee Games. While the game won't revolutionize the Soulslike genre, it does the next best thing by offering some ideas that they, or maybe another developer, can refine. Maybe it will become a mainstay for the genre in future games. If anything, I believe a Wuchang sequel could be an incredible game if it happens. But right now, the formula just isn't there yet.

Jul 22, 2025Between its weapon options, variety of skills, and abundance of spells, it features a layered combat system with engaging playstyles for everyone. Instead of feeling squishy and defenseless, like in some Soulslikes, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers makes me feel as badass as you’d expect a pirate warrior to be.
