This game sometimes feels like an early access game with bugs. In a game session lasting about 3 hours, I encountered 7 bugs. Even though this game gives you the freedom to recruit any character you encounter, I can't give some importance to the story. The city looks amazing, and gun shooting scenes are fun. Oh, I almost forgot, the music in this game feels like a playlist from a random person.

    Don't buy this ****

Best way to describe this game is soulless. I loved WD1 and WD2 and loved the characters/story they set up while the open-world was still interesting to explore. The gameplay is actually decently fun with a good amount of hacks and the gunplay isn't bad the different characters you play as add a diverse skillset. But the story is horrendous and extremely repititives

The performance was just okay. Quite a few frame drops..

When I first bought this at the start of PS5 gen, I bounced thinking that it just didn't work. However, having come back 2 years later, I had a much different reaction. The 'gimmick' is that you recruit all your party from anyone...and the perma-death. For me personally, I preferred to not use perma-death, but create a kick-ass crew; with a lot of effort to customise looks vs backgrounds. When I first bought this at the start of PS5 gen, I bounced thinking that it just didn't work. For me personally, I preferred to not use perma-death, but create a kick-ass crew; with a lot of effort to customise looks vs backgrounds. I enjoyed jumping between about 5-10 different characters. The story is a bit sci-fi cliche, but there were some good elements in there. I thought the last 10-20% of the game was a bit redundant - and anti-climatic in the end. However, I really enjoyed the majority of my time.
    Pros:
Great experience of virtual London - with a great open-city vibe.
Combat / missions had a good feel / difficulty
Very good ray-tracing based hybrid graphics for platform
Ambitious creative cast of home-chosen characters
Lots of content; especially loved the variety in the region 'liberations'
Great clothing options - fun to customize characters.
    Good variety in solving bases
    Cons:
Would be good to have more prominent 'important NPCs' in the story
The upgrades seem less important than I would like
Story elements tend to be centred around the same locations; could have more variety
Driving is fun, but lack of importance in main game.
There aren't as many differences between characters that I would like.

Worst Watch dog game ever. Cant jump in the Assassin Creed mission. Make a real jump key. How hard can it be. All other games have it. Ubisoft hasn't made a good game the last 10years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watch Dogs Legion is sadly a mediocre game that removes a lot of mechanics that were in Watch Dogs 2. New gameplay is not introduced, instead of a RC toy car you get a remote controlled spider, which is very strong and can be used to beat almost all content in the game. The people you play as are random so there is a chance your spy character might be very unappealing to you and there is no way you can change that. The main story feels way too long in my opinion, you do the same style of missions over and over again until you destroy all the evil organizations in London. The highlight of this game are ironically the side activities, I had more fun playing the kick up side game where you juggle the football as long as you can and also the darts side activity. You cannot pickup weapons from enemies for some reason as well. In watch dogs 2 you could purchase many different weapons and customize your loadout. In WD Legion you have 4 weapons to choose from and that is it. Hacking feels much weaker, there is no signature blackout hack or the mass shutdown hack. Ubisoft should probably put this franchise on hold if they cannot come up with a more fun gameplay loop. Expand

Watch Dogs: Legion is frustratingly close to being an innovative, modern-day classic. But it's not. It's average at best.

Let's start with the good: Well, the graphics are good, as expected nowadays for a game with this budget. The novel twist of being able to recruit anyone is interesting. The London map is physically well put together, although some residential and park areas would have been welcome, as would things like Wembley stadium. It's more the centre of London rather than London. Erm, that's about it for the good.

Now, onto the bad: The idea of being able to hire different characters to your cause, all with their own unique skills, sounds great. But their 'skills' just aren't that different or that interesting. It's essentially just another way of selecting a basic weapon. Also, you'll end up playing the whole game with the construction worker. This is really the biggest issue the game faces...the construction worker has access to a cargo drone. This breaks the game. It means you can hop on and fly around literally anywhere you want, skipping all the obstacle-course like setups to access collectibles and door-keys etc. Additionally, whilst there are various gadgets you can select, all you need is the spider-bot, which is as equally game-breaking as the cargo drone. It does everything, so you don't have to. It can crawl through the hundreds of vents in the game, and access areas, and even complete objectives, all without you needing to physically be there. I completed the whole game using only this one gadget. They should have forced you to utilise a wide range of gadgets to overcome different challenges, but they don't. And this brings me onto my next gripe...every single mission is the same. Go here. Fly on cargo drone. Send spider bot through vents. Hack something. Rinse and repeat forever. The missions are boring and unimaginative and there is little variety. The very first Watchdogs game has you hacking an entire baseball stadium's lights in the first 5 minutes. This was amazing. Nothing like that here.

If you do ever get caught out, easy...just shoot everyone. The game encourages mass-murder, even though you are supposed to be the good guys. No police come. No-one cares. Just kill everyone and you're set. Speaking of police, it's difficult to get a 5-star chase going even if you try. You can kill everyone in the street and the police don't care. If you are ever chased by them, just drive 100 metres around the corner, and they lose you. In a supposedly futuristic, dystopian world where big brother is always watching you, they literally can't see around the bloody corner.

This game could have been brilliant. They should never have included the cargo drone, or at least made it a late game unlock, and the spider drone should have only a limited use. Each level should have been like a hitman mission, where you have to stealthily hack and sneak your way to your mission, using genuinely different skills according to your operative. It feels like they just spent ages making a nice map, and then said wouldn't it be great if you could fly? What if you could be invisible? Or shoot paint? The different ideas don't gel together to make a cohesive game.

Speaking of the map, yes it looks nice, but after a couple of hours, you've seen it all. It doesn't feel alive like the world of GTA, and you will end up fast travelling everywhere soon enough. I would have liked some bigger missions that span different areas of the map and cause visible changes to the world, but there is nothing like that, except briefly at the end of the game, for about 5 minutes.

There's a lot more I could say about this game, but most of it will be negative. It's such a shame because the ingredients are there for something truly unique and great. But the execution, poor mission design, lifeless world, repetitive objectives and 2 game-braking gadgets, as well as no real progression tree that matters, lets everything down. I have always loved Watchdogs as a concept and think it's been overshadowed by GTA. But Ubisoft should learn from Rockstar. It doesn't even have weather cycles. If they wanted to represent London...make it bloody rain! It rains 9 months a year here. I'm British, I should know.

Finally, the music...the radio stations all play some weird heavy metal/rock crap. This is London. There should have been a lot more UK hip-hip, grime, garage, and drill music. This is big here. They know this because Stormzy makes a guest appearance in the game, Yet his own genre of music is almost non-existent in the game.

There are no helicopters, planes, cats, dogs or birds in the sky. No clubbers out at night. No random events happening. Just NPC's. And, as per usual Ubisoft fashion, a bunch of boring collectibles littering the map. The platinum trophy will put you to sleep. As will the game itself.

Almost great, but nearer to trash, in the end. Ubisoft...please change how you make games.

Hate playing as npc’s and the story was the worst one yet. Such a bad story that anyone could have come up with. Previous games have done everything way better as well - from the way you could order vehicles to you and the amount of guns you could have in your arsenal. This one just fell off big time.

Riddled with annoying bugs that wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t constantly kill my character who I then don’t have access to for an hour until he “heals”. Meanwhile, you’re stuck playing as some stupid operative you don’t like until yours is available again, all because the game is constantly glitching. They clearly weren’t ready to make a next gen game and it shows.

The driving can feel a little “floaty” at times and the lack of a main protagonist does harm this game a little as you don’t follow one persons story throughout, but the “recruit anyone” idea is still fantastic and love that Ubisoft took a risk of it. The DLCs help with the lack of a main protagonist by introducing Aiden and Wrench from 1 & 2, so the only main pain point is he driving for me. It regularly goes on sale, so if you find it going for 50% off, then I highly recommend a buy! Expand

While its dystopian, futuristic London may smell of Grand Theft Auto open worlds, Watch Dogs Legion's approach to recruiting any NPC differentiates the formula in a unique way, creating a fascinating blend of freedom, action, stealth, and roguelikes.
  2. 60
What you end up with is an experience that shows a ton of promise, but ends up being entirely average. It’s hard to call Watch Dogs Legion a bad game outright. It’s a serviceable, if traditional, open-world game with a boring story and novelty mechanics that play out better on paper than in execution. The PS5 version makes expected improvements to visuals and load times, but isn’t a standout example of a “next-gen” title.
  3. 65
Watch Dogs: Legion is a far more palatable experience on PS5 thanks to its vastly-improved load times and splendid visual upgrades. The only real technical gripes are that there’s little in the way of DualSense implementation, and the framerate, while steady, hasn’t been upped. Its base problems of open-world fatigue and messy storytelling are still problems that can’t be so easily fixed and still remain a significant barrier to enjoyment. It’ll give you a dazzling trip to London, but you wouldn’t want to stay there.
