Space Marine 2 is a triumphant return to this beloved chapter of the 40K franchise. Superb combat and weighty game and gun play help raise the stakes for a enjoyable if not ground-breaking story that sometimes takes itself a little bit too seriously. Great customization options and great PvE and PvP modes further this strong package that is just a blast to play. This game is not revolutionary in what it is trying to achieve and it doesn’t care. It wants you to have a good time and boy did I! Superb visuals and strong sound design and music also help you truly feel like an Ultramarine.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II is definitely our biggest surprise of 2024. The way Saber Interactive created a well focused game with a realistic scope, is simply spectacular. A perfect balance between a well done third person shooter, and a thrilling hack and slash.

I can’t praise this game enough. It’s as if the Emperor himself oversaw its development, pulling on the threads of time and space to bring the right people together at the right time to make it. There are flaws, sure, but it’s a damn good game and a flipping fantastic Warhammer 40K game. If you even remotely enjoy the universe, this will blow your mind. As I mentioned at the top, though, you can go into this game with no prior knowledge and still have the best time with it because the experience is solid, the world is completely realized, and the gameplay is highly engaging.

A total package and a feast for the senses, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 should not be missed. It feels like a game brought forward from the Xbox 360 era in the best possible way. Put simply, Space Marine 2 is on the short list for 2024’s best shooter.

Paired with some gorgeous visuals and chunky action, this is as cathartic an action-shooter-brawler as one can hope to enjoy. For the Emperor!

The campaign is a bit on the shorter side, but the Operations and PvP will keep you engaged with the game, even though some unlock systems are a bit convoluted. The PS5 performance is a bit all over the place, and it’s the reason the score is lower – PC fairs a lot better. By the Emperor, I really enjoyed this game.

It’s also not easy to understand the importance of the Space Marines if you aren’t familiar with the lore. It’s never been more enjoyable to be a Space Marine and understand the horrors of fighting in never-ending conflicts.

Space Marine 2 is a little gem of an adaptation intended for fans of the Warhammer 40,000 saga and fans of unbridled video game action. This science fiction universe is enhanced by polished and captivating visuals as well as impressive gameplay in both its precision and brutality. And the best is yet to come. The PvE and PvP modes guarantee an exemplary lifespan, as does the customization of the Space Marines, which is a model of its kind. Space Marine 2 could have been perfect without this feeling of repetitiveness that sets in after several hours of play, but which gives way to fun in the company of other players.

With splendid combat that is slightly held back by repetition and a universe that has obvious potential, the story of Titus is ripe for more and fans will have much to chew through as they cut down every enemy of the Emperor along the way. Needless to say, either you are with us or against us, but it will be a bloody fantastic time either way.

Space Marine 2 is undoubtedly a great game for Warhammer 40,000 fans, although it’s best experienced in co-op, because the AI that controls the protagonist’s companions in single-player mode leaves a lot to be desired.

Space Marine 2 knows exactly what it's trying to be and makes no bones about its glaring limitations from start to finish. Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will no doubt find more mileage in the campaign and characters, but for players with only a passing interest in 40k (or players with absolutely no interest), it's hard to ignore the patchy narrative and increasingly one-note gameplay. That said, there’s a lot of potential here, and we hope to see a third outing from Sabre Interactive in the future.

Warhammer 40,000 is without a doubt an enjoyable game. The epic scale of the universe is greatly captured offering moments of fun as you try to survive the enemy onslaught. However, the one-note combat system and the limited enemy variety can't help but lead to a sense of repetition halfway the campaign.

It’s just one of those games - the ones you like but have to acknowledge are riddled with things to complain about. Fun and frustrating all at once.
