This game feels like I'm chewing through plastic. The only good thing about it is the battle system, but after probably 4 hours of playing, I can totally see this gets old pretty fast. The whole thing feels extremely "plasticky", no life, no enjoyment, just numbers and button mashing. Enemy AI is so braindead it's not even funny - you basically just fly between them and hit these couple of buttons (and do combos if you feel like you want to screw the camera even more - oh yeah, I forgot about the camera which is very very broken…).

So yeah. Demo looked kinda nice, bought the full game, played 4-5 hours, and I can't really make myself spend more time on this. Money paid are money paid, but time is more precious thing, especially comparing to spending it on a game like this one. Oh well

I would usually write abit about my thoughts on the game and what it did well and what didn't for me, but seriously man...after Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and Silmeria they decided that this was just as good or better? I enjoyed this game at first, but the combat gets dull really quick. This is mostly because that's all there is to do in the game. No real exploration, not much dialogue, no towns to explore, and, more importantly, not much time spent on character progression.

Choices to progress your character is linear and not really choices, more like "Well I gotta get all these skills anyway, do I want this one 20 minutes earlier than the other one?" Probably 95% of my time was spent on combat. If you like that you might like the game. But I didn't. It made the combat get old and repetitive real fast, and it didn't have the depth to carry it - mostly because there's only one playstyle. Even on hard, I find myself just mashing air combos, and soul chain, not much to it.

Side quest system is horrible- you can't do side quests on your way of finishing the main missions, you have to "exit out" and "Accept" the sidequest while you enter the stage - worst QoL I've seen in a game in 20 years.

Not really a good game. I wouldn't recommend it until it's $15 on sale, which it will be within 4 months. I gave it 3 points for good graphics, nice atmosphere, and good music.

A stain on an otherwise beautiful franchise.

Soleil have taken the bizarre decision to turn one of the most beloved cult classic RPGs of all time into a cheap, forgettable third person action game. We have enough of those. This game falls flat on everything that made the original games great. Characterization, art, story - you can tell even Sakuraba mailed it in for this one. It's all

This game falls flat on everything that made the original games great. Characterization, art, story - you can tell even Sakuraba mailed it in for this one. It's all just completely uninteresting. Disappointing for newcomers, disappointing for long time fans. It's such a shame. It's SUCH a shame. And Square will probably look at mediocre sales figures as "proof" that no one wants a Valkyrie game any more. We do, we just want one that actually respects the other entries in the franchise.

Solo dire que es tan absurdo, como la comparación que haré, es como Jump Force, un sin sentido, lleno de partículas, con un gameplay repetitivo y sin alma

Uninteresting characters and story, some cringy identity politics for a group that won’t even play the game, world is dull, has decent gameplay and boss fights.

Blend and generic as an low budget game can get. At some parts it looks ok in others just terrible. Tube lvl design, forgettable story and combat wich gets boring after a few minutes. Square can do better than this…

Very repetitive and pointless, the game world is on rails and every action feels completely banal and devoid of satisfaction. There is no strategy, just random button mashing and shut off brain, which is fine if that’s what you’re looking for.

This game is a total disaster. It completely sullies the name of the valkyrie profile series back on the ps1 and ps2. It is not even an rpg anymore, more like an action game. I think their budget was a bag of chips and a couple of trident layers gum sticks. Stay far away from this failure folks

This game is really bad, it has no flavor. It is quite nice graphically but it stops there.

Terrible game. Combat is repetitive, barely any story so to speak of, world is ugly and desaturated, weird cel-shading (obviously to hide the awful lack of anti-alias, but still the performance leaves a lot to be desired). I'm not asking for photorealism here, I'm just asking for performance commensurate to a game, something that incompetent Japanese developers seem to never be able to get right. The game is also ridiculously short despite being completely devoid of substance. It's a crime that this was sold for $60. Expand

This game is a steaming pile of garbage. It doesn't even have the AAA quality to justify the $60 price tag. This whole cel shading art style is just an excuse for developers to be cheap and lazy. Everything about this game is literal trash, even the title of this game is unoriginal trash.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $60 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. I don't recommend this poor excuse of a $60 game at all.

    Pros:

✔️Visuals & character designs look good.
    ✔️End level scoring.
    ✔️Linear designed levels.
✔️Abundant selection of melee weapons & spells.
✔️Combat takes a stylized approach by offering flashy combos that are able to be preformed.
    ✔️Decent voice acting.
✔️Offers additional difficulty modes. I see this as an inherently good thing when games offer it.

    Cons:

❌Cannot load a manual save made at a crystal on a "game over" screen, nor is the option available to trigger an additional auto-save made near the crystal. Your manual save is only accessible to load through the title screen. How a basic feature like loading a manual save at a game over screen didn't make it's way into the game is beyond baffling.

❌The Valkyrie's knocked down recovery animation is far too slow.

❌With certain weapons, when initiating a charged attack, reminiscent of the UTs found in Ninja Gaiden, the Valkyrie doesn't stay put to do the attack but instead continues to plunge forward, often missing the target entirely. The windup frames in which these attacks can be preformed should also be trimmed down.

❌A god awful camera. Probably one of the worst cameras the genre has produced. Switching between the hard and soft lock-on can help minimize the issues. But it's time for action games to adopt a camera similar to Ubisoft's For Honor, where the camera goes through the wall and boundaries that confine the player go translucent.

❌No button mapping. Much like the need for action games to adopt a camera similar to For Honor's, it's time button mapping becomes standard. Shinobi did this in 2002. What's the excuse?

❌Frame dips into the teens when there's a lot of magic prevalent on screen.

❌Both physical and magical attacks don't register. This isn't a case of an enemy guarding. Your attacks will just go through them.

❌To make up for the lack of mid-attack dash & guard canceling, the speed in which your attack animations take place should be faster. You're only able to dash cancel the recovery frames of attacks. This was the fair trade off in Ninja Gaiden, which was further punctuated with fairly good enemy hitstun. You had to commit to your attacks, but the speed in which your attacks took place were fast and allowed for your reflexes to be more properly utilized. There's none of this in Valkyrie Elysium, which necessitates the use of the same fast weapon over and over, becoming a monotonous over time.

I cannot recommend this game at a price higher than $15 USD. It has good ideas but they are poorly executed and the game lacks basic features.

I haven't finished it and not planning to continue the game so I don't die from boredom, the game screams "we need to make quick bucks so let's charge the players 60$ for a sh!!ty game with boring, over-used plot about ragnarok and odin so we can call it a day" very disappointed, I read a review that said the game feels like plastic and I couldn’t agree more.

Had some fun moments but ultimately a drab, uninspired, and frustrating experience. Some really odd design choices, the most egregious to me being fighting wave after wave after wave of enemies just to get an elixir that you can’t carry any more of because you have the maximum of 3.

    Sorry my English .......
i am sad to see what they did with the franchise. The game looks more like a generic RPG.
I hate "smashing button" action game.Besides that it has few RPG elements, not to mention the horrible graphics.
    Ridiculous.

Valkyrie Elysium’s world and characters based on Norse mythology are fascinating, and its speedy combat is exhilarating. It’s too bad that the title feels like it could have used a little more polish, and the button mapping doesn’t match the game’s systems. The game lacks a bit in volume as well, and its world and characters could have been fleshed out even more.

I was excited going into Valkyrie Elysium because of what I had heard about the series. While after my time with it that excitement certainly has dulled, not because of the combat but just because everything around it just kind of felt ‘meh’. If the world was more populated or at the very least more interesting there would be much more here to really sink one’s teeth into, as it stands once players are done doing Odin’s bidding they will find little reason to return in my opinion.

Valkyrie Elysium brings the series into the modern era, even though the story is rough, and the levels are a bit bland. I want to see more of this, but hopefully with some of the more major faults fixed.
