Worse than Until Dawn, better than Dark Pictutes. For some reason, Supermassive chose to make the game so accessible to all audiences that gives The Quarry an incredible simplistic gameplay. Simple QTEs, simple exploration, long dialogue. Instead of make a better improve game, The Quarry is Worst , simple game.

Commendations should be given to Supermassive Games for making a horror adventure with numerous outcomes and it will entertain if you've got some buddies over or want to indulge in a horror night of your own. However, the characters are full of unlikable teenaged morons and 2015's Until Dawn is far superior to this effort.

If you love Until Dawn you can't love this game. The plot is awesome. You will find yourself trying to predict things. Don't expect anything super new. The base is the same and imo thats what makrs sense.

Great graphics, intriguing plot. The gameplay is not something special but the game is enjoyable. The story gets weird sometimes like an average horror movie but it's addictive at the same time to see what happens next.

This game is awesome. It is a cinematic horror story with clear influences from Quantic Dreams games, full of countless branching paths diaolog options and quick time events. The characters and voice actiors were compelling. The game is all the more successful because a wrong choice or a missed button call get it favorite character killed which happened a lot in my playthrough

Supermassive's best game yet, The Quarry really gives you a game the length of Until Dawn but with the choices of something like House of Ashes. Highly recommend.

If you enjoy horror in general, this is your go-to, especially because no other decent horror games will release this year. The story is captivating, and keeps you guessing a lot, especially whether you made the correct choice in certain situations. When you choose a path, it almost always makes it very clear how the choice will be said in the dialogue, either aggressive or calm. There is no in-between, so it is very easy to always choose the “correct” choice, but is that also the best choice in that situation? I do feel like sometimes you have to get aggressive towards someone to spin the story a little. Also, a little bigger point of critique would be that some scenes look fake, for example; If you would see a character in a certain situation, it would be obvious to the eye what needs to be done, or how one would react in that situation, but the character either does something that’s totally not logical or just acts like it’s retarded so the main story line can go on the way it’s supposed to carry on. These smaller details do not damage the overall feel of the game, it’s just something I picked up on and thought could use some better finishing work.

Is it worth $70? No. Watch this game on a YouTube walkthrough (theRadBrad!) or wait for it to get a decent discount. Although it has multiple playthroughs, I do not feel the game changes its mayor plot lines so $70 feels too much.

    - The Visuals were at times amazing and the Motion Caption was well done. - The Plot was intriguing and kept me hooked throughout the game
    - The Features. Let me explain there are a number of options to tweak you gaming experience such as Automatic QTEs, The Movie Mode and Director Chair is really a nice bonus if you want to spice things up with basically creating your own horror adventure. And last but not least the Death system. The Mixed
    - The Writing can get a bit cheesy at times and depending on importance can affect your experience(but me personally it didn't bother me)
    - The inherent gameplay style that the game possess. On one hand the game is for Games and Non-Gamers alike, but If you're looking for an "game" well there isn't a whole lot of gameplay because more the half of the game is cuteness. The Bad - There are a couple of bugs that I ran into, there were a number of times where the characters blood stains would kinda flicker in a white color and can throw off the immersion. A lot more than I expected! I was entertained all throughout! There has been a sting of disappointing games but The Quarry does not. Graphics were good sounds and music good. Felt like you were watching a real movie and deciding what happened. Choices felt weighted with consequences as well. I like what they did with the first two character arches and then flash backed to what happened and it was playable to that was a treat! Love the cast of actors in the game as well gave it that extra real movie feel and I DIDNT EXPECT THE kind of monsters! This was great work and no MTX! *chiefs kiss* Expand

As someone who has been obsessed with the work of Supermassive Games since 2015’s Until Dawn and has continued to love them through the rocky yet still entertaining ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology’, I can honestly say this game reaches the same heights as Until Dawn and House of Ashes and, in many ways surpasses it.

The story is enthralling leaving me dying to see where it goes at every turn, the acting across the cast is phenomenal with particular kudos to the performances of Siobhan Williams as ‘Laura’, Ted Raimi as ‘Travis’, Miles Robbins as ‘Dylan’ and of course the wonderful Brenda Song as ‘Kaitlyn’. The variety of choice and effect is also a highlight, alongside the new ‘Paths’ system - this game's answer to the ‘Butterfly Effect’ - that helps to show you the impacts of your choices and is displayed to the player through delightful retro 80’s inspired VHS Movie boxes.

There is also an updated collectible system for collecting Clues which feels more connected as new information becomes available to you as you find more. The other ‘collectible’ systems are also stellar, the ‘Evidence’ system which relates to specific major clues that help to build an abundance of evidence to prove that the events that take place at Hackett’s Quarry are in fact Bizarre yet Bonafide. The last collectible system is Supermassive’s newest variation on ‘Premonitions’, which in Until Dawn were Totems dotted around the environments that foretold possible futures. In The Quarry you instead collect Tarot Cards, specifically the 22 main arcana, each one giving you a glimpse into the future. However only one Tarot Card can be viewed each chapter so it still allows some room for mystery even for the avid collectible hunter.

The other change in this game is the many differences to the ‘gameplay’ aspects of The Quarry. This includes pressing directional buttons to avoid falling whilst running from an unknown threat, mashing the - in my case - ‘X’ button to keep yourself steady whilst moving across narrow places and lifting heavy objects, pressing ‘X’ once again to ‘interrupt’ certain scenarios whether that means calling out to whatever is hiding in the woods or attacking someone or something that may or may not be trying to harm you (I’m trying my best to be as vague as possible). There are also segments where you will have a gun and be able to shoot these unknown aggressors by shining a flashlight over them and firing, just make sure to analyse your surroundings and don’t be too quick to pull the trigger cos it may end badly for you. The final aspect of gameplay and quite honestly my favourite element, is ‘Don’t Breathe’, in these segments you must hold down the ‘X’ button to hold your breathe as you hide from an attacker, watching carefully as they move around and waiting for the perfect moment to make a break for it and get the hell out of there.

In terms of game modes there is single player, which is just your regular old story, couch co-op where up to 8 players can take control of the playable characters and try to survive the night and Movie Mode, where you can select predetermined outcomes and watch them unfold without lifting a finger. There’s also an online voting mode of sorts but that is unavailable in the current build of the game.

I really enjoyed The Quarry and definitely recommend it to any fan of Until Dawn or The Dark Pictures Anthology or even just fans of the horror genre in general. It is a spectacular game filled with gore, witty banter and the occasional awkward and unnecessary tripping over a branch that we all love from classic 80s slashers.

However! The Quarry is a full price game, some would say an overpriced game which is completely understandable! As a fan of gaming and someone who is willing to pay more to support their favourite developers, I’m happy to fork over the £60+ it costs for this game but you should know what you’re getting into, this is a interactive movie game, which means that there is minimal gameplay, a lot of walking around and long ass cutscenes, if you’re not a fan of that, then don’t buy The Quarry. To those who are on the fence, I can’t say whether or not you’ll enjoy it yourself because that is the beauty of this subjective medium we call video games. I absolutely loved it but I can definitely understand your apprehension, in that case I’d recommend waiting for a sale or purchasing a physical copy which are often much cheaper. There is also a deluxe edition which adds some more content which I believe to be a little unnecessary, apart from the 80s throwback costumes which I personally love the art direction for.

I hope I’ve helped in some way to better your understanding of The Quarry.

Thanks for reading, and remember! “What Doesn’t Kill You, Will Make You Stronger!"

This is a really disappointing game as a huge fan of Super Massive and Until Dawn.

    - This is far less scary than their previous work - A far less interesting story, with no twists or turns - A lack of meaningful choice (chapters 1-9 are almost identical regardless of what you do) - You are funneled down

But it is not surprising, misandry, contempt and hatred for men is an evil happening on a global scale, heavily disseminated by the media and treated with absolute normality, to go unnoticed.

And as usual, nobody sees anything at all. Or they pretend not to see it, because apparently depreciating the masculine gender to inflate the feminine ego has become synonymous with "equality" these days. Misandry, physical and psychological violence against men, always treated naturally by the entertainment industry. I'm sure that if the girls were the targets of the continuous insults, it wouldn't go unnoticed by anyone.

But against man, anything goes, right?

    D'a'm'n femism dictatorship!

I sent an angry email to Supermassive Games.

These developers couldn't write a competent story or characters if it bit them in the arse.

There are two possibilities here. One, the development team is full of alpha widows that portray the jocks that pumped and dumped them in real life in a way that satisifies their bitterness of not being able to keep them around or two, this studio is full of cucked Communists that are doing everything in their power to emasculate and villanise white men like every single other person in the media is doing too. Terrible story, terrible plot, terrible monsters that look like they haven't even loaded into the game properly, creepy facial animations, social commentary, pandering to people that don't play these games, abysmal ending. The only reason I'm even making reference to anything beyond the propaganda piece that this trash is is so that the moderate wimps that think calling out said propaganda is nonsensical and bitter can actually have a position to defend that doesn't involve their offended emotions.

Another example of why video games in 2022 are a dead medium and need to be boycotted completely. I haven't even mentioned the terrible business practices that came from these amateur developers joining up with 2K so they really are the most scummy, degenerate, talentless game makers that exist in the industry today, and that's saying something when Rockstar and EA exist.

Not worth £6, let alone £60. These products need all of the shaming and boycotting that they deserve. And go watch Synthetic Man on YouTube if you want actual reviews and critiques of games that aren't afraid to reveal the truth.

The Quarry does a fine job as a spiritual successor to the renowned Until Dawn, yet takes a few steps forward when it comes to character development and atmosphere building. Unfortunately, it sacrifices a few elements in the process which makes it a not so scary interactive movie more than a video game. Still, for lovers of the genre and Supermassive Games legacy – it’s a treat you should not miss.

This game, or interactive movie if you prefer, is a great experience for horror fans. The story, gameplay (minimalistic as it is) and the acting are some of the best I've seen in this genre yet. The Quarry sits comfortably near the top of the interactive movie genre. Equal parts clever and terrifying, it earns its ten-hour runtime with a series of twists and turns that are sure to delight. There’s action, romance, comedy, and unbelievably disgusting violence. Supermassive Games have delivered a rollercoaster that serves as a fabulous follow-up to Until Dawn, so anyone who enjoys the genre will be in for one hell of a ride.
