    What I like:
    - battle system
    - dungeon crawling
    - fast pacing
    - C's story

    What I don't like:
    - recycled plot points
    - bloated roster
    - redundant lines dropped by characters just to remind me that they exist
    - all side contents beside the randomized dungeon

    What a conclusion to Cold Steel and Crossbell arcs. Fantastic characters, engaging battle system, great music and fun gameplay. Something that FFXVI can only dream about. I just wished that we could get it sooner in EU compared to Japan and they had bigger budget to pump up the visuals a bit more (characters look great but the environments are still bit outdated). Nevertheless, this is aWhat a conclusion to Cold Steel and Crossbell arcs. Fantastic characters, engaging battle system, great music and fun gameplay. Something that FFXVI can only dream about.     Trails into Reverie is the final game of the first half of the Trails saga – which means if you have not played the first 9 (!) games here, this one won't make any sense for you. However – that journey is one of the best I ever started in my video game history and this is an insanely strong pay off for the Crossbell and Erebonia Arc.

    Reverie is the best game in the Trails series in terms of story telling and pacing – because it can shine so much due to the world building and character arcs all the other games established. The main story itself is also very strong, yet I would not rank it amongst the best of the series. However it ties together a lot of loose threads and gives us amazing character development for characters that felt „unfinished“ after CS 4. It also introduces a few new characters that instantly became favourites of mine – Falcom is just that good of a developer.

    The gameplay itself is very close to CS4, adding a few more tricks, but overall the same. You still have a variety of equipment and accessories, quartz, master quartz, orders and arts. There is so much you can do here and you can get lost in these RPG elements.

    The game is also way more linear than other titles, which I personally enjoy, but it does take away the sense of exploration and hidden stuff, like hidden side quests etc. Due to the extremely big cast of 40+ playable characters, the story telling via 3 different routes splits those up nicely. It does get a bit chaotic at the end though.

    Which is also my biggest issue with the game: All the characters are amazing story wise, but when they come together and you are tasked with creating a team of 8 it gets extremely difficult to pick a proper team. Furthermore, you will need to switch accessories and quartz around a lot, which can get annoying as there are no options to save load outs and fast re-equip them.

    Overall, an amazing entry, to the best ongoing RPG series that exists – there is nothing comparable to Trails out there and everyone should try it.    … Expand

    A great send off to the Cold Steel saga and a proper conclusion to the Crossbell series. C's route is also a breath of fresh air to the Trails cast. Lots of fun things to do in the Reverie corridor and the turn-based gameplay remains as solid as the previous entries with tons of more customization. Not as great as Sky the 3rd, but this will definitely satisfy Trails fans if you have beenA great send off to the Cold Steel saga and a proper conclusion to the Crossbell series.     Great game to finish off the Eribonia chapter. Combat is the same as cold steel IV with the addition of giving the assault gauge a purpose in battle, if you liked the combat before this is just more of it. The new character's are likeable but unfortunately only have a fleshed out backstory in dialogue excluding lapis and C, they are very well written and are the real protagonists of theGreat game to finish off the Eribonia chapter. The core cast of the previous games class 7, the SSS and the brights are mostly side characters or a vehicle to show and progress the story. Rean, the SSS and a few others from class 7 mainly new class 7 will be who drives the story forward from their respective story lines. Characters like Laura, fie and Elliot take a back seat for the vast majority of major story moments. The story isn't as grandiose or epic in it's climax and it really didn't need to be. Unlike other entries to the series this is a singular game, there's no call backs or setting up for the eventual conclusion like cold steel 1&3. My complaint's. First how the game handles the garden and side quests. You will complete half of the stratums playing the story the rest of them are post game and very much necessary. The women on the box art you don't see during the game until you do post game, it's a very strange choice that they locked important events behind optional content although they did do the same in cold steel IV. Side quests are gone. You get RP (this games AP) from completing master missions issued from the garden. It's a definite downgrade. Overall I love this game. It's not the best in the series but it's by no means bad, it's a great game with some strange choices but they have a very minor impact on the game as a whole.… Expand

    Although it feels like there’s a lot of padding to justify another instalment, Reverie nonetheless gives the Trails series’ Crossbell arc a satisfying conclusion. [Issue#30, p.91]

    Positively overflowing with meaty, tactical combat and terrific character writing, Trails of Reverie is held back by its dated presentation and sky-high barrier to entry.

    The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie serves as the grand conclusion to the Crossbell and Cold Steel story arcs, tying up loose ends with an all-star crossover cast of characters. It does very little to catch new players up to speed with the narrative and context, and ultimately is not a good place to start for newcomers. However, Reverie features an incredibly in-depth gameplay experience to keep even the most hardcore of fans engaged for hours on end.
