Mar 30, 2023The Last Worker is an underdog story that feels incredibly timely, even more so now than it did a year ago when I first played the game at PAX East. Its themes of corporate corruption and commentary on capitalism are quite sharp, and the game manages to convey all of this without coming off as overly depressing or heavy-handed. Despite some iffy movements on controller, The Last Worker is sure to be one of the year’s best narratives.

Apr 24, 2023The Last Worker delivers in almost all aspects: beautiful aesthetics, great dialogue, and a satisfying gameplay loop all combine to create a genuinely fun title that is much more than what I initially expected.

PLAYSep 16, 2023A witty script and likeable performances make this VR dystopia worth getting immersed in. Out of the oppressive grind emerges a narrative with heart. [Issue#27, p.76]

Mar 30, 2023Despite a few issues with the controls, The Last Worker is a riveting 6-to-8-hour narrative experience. Sorting each box as a pseudo-employee is surprisingly entertaining, and the characters are endearing. There are also twists and turns in the storyline that will keep you gripped throughout this journey, at least until the endings start to play out. With the gorgeous visuals by Mick McMahon, fun gameplay, and meaningful script, I’d happily recommend The Last Worker. You just need to struggle through the awkward controls and some confusing game design.

Mar 30, 2023A strong, compelling narrative that's only made better by great visuals and superb voice acting.
-
Mar 30, 2023The Last Worker features a well-written story and some smart ideas in regards to its gameplay, offering a solid narrative experience.
-
Apr 5, 2023The Last Worker is a narrative adventure with satirical overtones and a simple game structure. Unfortunately, the gameplay never quite succeeds. The game should perform best on VR, unfortunately the worst optimized version.
-
Mar 30, 2023While it paints its dystopian future in broad strokes and has some rough edges, there's a worthwhile and enjoyable tale to experience within The Last Worker.
-
Mar 30, 2023If you’ve got an evening that you want to fill with a charming narrative adventure, The Last Worker will fit the bill. Just don’t expect it to make a major impact on you. While its story starts out strong, it fizzles out as it reaches its climax, and a number of frustrating gameplay elements suck a little fun from the experience. Thankfully, the strength of its presentation and excellent voice acting will at least keep you determined to see things through.

Edge MagazineApr 20, 2023The game is as interested in making you laugh as making you think. [Issue#384, p.104]
-
Apr 20, 2023With a bit more to say The Last Worker could’ve been a great game, but the paper thin plot and clunky controls hold back what is otherwise a stylish and unique time with or without VR. Hopefully there’ll be more to come from this world as it’s an interesting premise, but for right now it’s a decent couple of evenings spent.
-
Apr 2, 2023The Last Worker’s principal problem is that it’s a game made for VR that’s better without it. Fulfilling online orders in a capitalism-induced apocalypse is an excellent idea marred by inconsistent execution and confounding restrictions placed on VR movement. It’s short enough not to overstay its simplicity, but it’s not smart enough to make any astute thematic statements.
-
Mar 30, 2023The Last Worker is a narrative-based adventure that managed to keep us entertained, but that’s about it.
-
Apr 17, 2023Dejected criticism of capitalism that offers little in terms of narrative and makes gross blunders in pacing. In terms of gameplay, too, The Last Worker is unfortunately banal.
-
Mar 30, 2023It’s at such a remove from anything human that we see no consequences to your actions.
