This remaster is a great refinement of the already excellent original, The Last of Us Part II. Newcomers should not miss out on experiencing one of the best games released. Additionally, there is enough extra content to warrant a return for those who have already played it.

The Last of Us Part II is a landmark videogame despite its troubling attitude to violence. It constructs a nihilist vision that weaves a compelling story while offering little redemptive hope for the human race. It gets under your skin, not always in a good way, and cannot be forgotten...The remaster changes none of that and therefore, in its own way, is inessential.

Visual and haptical enhancements along with bonus content including new modes, cut stages and audio commentary from designers make this a required experience.

Given the state of our world today, a game about the mechanisms by which violence reproduces itself uncontrollably is even more difficult to digest, but arguably all the more important. It's an ugly, mean game in all the right ways: a blockbuster that has no desire to pander, putting its message above the will to please. Daring.

The Last of Us Part II is, without exaggeration, a true masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of what a video game can be. In addition to the great cinematic story, the gameplay and the essence of the legendary first game has been improved in every possible way, and the remastered version of the sequel only makes us see even more how ahead of its time this title was.

This PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 further enhances an already fantastic game, thanks to better technique, framerate and resolution, but also through more nervous sensations via the DulaSense. Let us add that the Lost levels and the comments offer a real immersion into the world of the game and will delight fans who are interested in the development of this masterpiece. The added Roguelike mode is rather nice without being a revolution, nevertheless, we cannot deny that this version is the ultimate version of the Naughty Dog title. Yes, it’s still an incredible masterpiece, period!

Looking past its story (again, its story is incredible) and emotional power, there is enough additional content to warrant a full replay for existing owners. If you’re a new owner, this is no doubt the edition you should be securing to fully immerse yourself in Naughty Dog’s desolate future.

I'm not going to claim that The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered makes the existing game even more indispensable than it already is. That's not really possible, because the game was already indispensable upon its original release. But for ten euros this is a great expansion with some interesting behind the scenes material, a lot of skins and at least one very nice extra mode.

It’s a must-do masterpiece if you’ve never had the time to try it before. This fully optimized version on PS5 is a feast for the eyes and ears. There is nothing to throw away, especially since in addition to being sublime, the game is incredible, we know that. For fans of the license, many bonuses (developer comments, deleted levels, etc.) are also included. The roguelike mode does the job very well, even if it is only playable solo. It will certainly kill you for a few extra hours if it is not really essential. But when the job is done very well, why sulk? The same will not be said of the mode which allows you to play the guitar freely, which will only appeal to serious enthusiasts. The Last of Us 2 Remastered is therefore unmissable if you have never touched the game, but if you own the original game on PS4, although it will only cost you around ten euros, it is difficult to recommend, except for early fans obviously.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is simply the most polished and richest version of one of the best and most influential video games ever. Despite the title, improvements in graphics are rather subtle and it's the gameplay that got a great bonus package. No Return is engaging, Lost Levels are a great gift for fans of the series, and unlocked frames offer more fluid action. It was already a "ten out of ten" game, now only more so.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered does far more than simply justify its existence on the PS5. The new visuals and animations are absolutely stunning, and the added content is significant. With the new game modes and behind the scenes content, there’s plenty here for returning players to enjoy and newcomers to savor. Regardless of your past experience with The Last of Us Part II, this remaster deserves your time.

In addition to the graphical adaptations to the new hardware, the developers at Naughty Dog have also thought about how they can further enhance the remaster. The excursion into the game's development history alone is an exciting new experience. The roguelike mode offers many hours of additional fun for anyone who wants to push the game's combat system to the limit. The actual story campaign remains an exciting experience of a special kind anyway.

Whether you're brand new to The Last of Us Part 2 or already own it on PS4 and are upgrading to this remastered version for the extra bells and whistles, you're in for a treat. Thanks to the visual and performance improvements, there's no better way to experience the grim, shocking and sometimes uncomfortable story of The Last of Us Part 2. And once that ordeal is over, a great effort has been made here to allow you an interesting insight into the game's development. It's the elements here that allow you to extend your play that really make the difference, though. From new unlockable outfits to the brilliant No Return roguelike mode, chances are you'll keep playing The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered long after the credits have rolled.

As a full package, there’s nothing else you could possibly want from The Last of Us Part II Remastered. We all thought Part II was Naughty Dog’s magnum opus but Part II Remastered shows that there’s plenty more gas in the tank. The Last of Us Part II was a masterful game back in 2020. The haunting and emotional story, the morally-complex characters and themes, the blend of stealth and combat, the environmental storytelling, and the immaculate presentation all came together to deliver an extraordinary game that remains a conversation topic to this day. The Last of Us Part II Remastered is a reminder of the original’s excellence, and it’s a fantastic remaster that remains true to the original product, all while enhancing it in fantastic ways.

Should you buy this remastered version of The Last of Us 2 on PS5? Yes, of course ! Beyond remaking one of the best games in history with Red Dead Redemption 2 in better conditions, we can especially enjoy the "No Return" mode, which is the essential asset of the title, bringing hours and hours of play in addition, and above all a major challenge to measure this incredible gameplay. And then I remind you that if you already have the game on PS4, the update will only cost you €10, while the full game is offered at €50. And then, need I remind you how The Last of Us Part 2 is a remarkable game in many ways? Through the finesse of their writing, Neil Druckmann and Harley Gross have managed to make their work a ton of emotions where contrary feelings mix, blurring the line between what is supposed to be Good and what represents Evil. This is why The Last of Us 2 is an exceptional sequel: by assuming his choices, even if it means not pleasing everyone. That being said, even if you do not subscribe to Naughty Dog's vision in the story, it will however be difficult to deny the intrinsic qualities of the pure video game product as such.

I feel supremely confident in saying that for the millions of folks that already own The Last of Us Part 2 on PS4, the $10/£10 upgrade charge is a more than fair ask in terms of the sheer amount of frankly excellent content that you're getting here - with the excellent No Return mode easily capable of being spun off into its own entity. Likewise, if you have yet to experience Naughty Dog's magnum opus for the first time, the fact remains that it's superlative story campaign is as impactful, essential and emotionally devastating as it ever was. Boiled down to its most basic properties, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is the definitive version of the best game of the last generation and as such, it's still a ten. Easily.

People can crucify companies that remaster games instead of creating new works, however, when something is as well done as The Last of Us Part II Remastered, there is no hater in the world who can find flaws to complain about. All the extras greatly increase the lifespan of the game and can deepen the player even further into the narrative in an extraordinary way. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered may seem like an unnecessary re-release, but with an inevitable PC version on the horizon - and because there's obviously no better way to cash in on the popularity of the TV series - it's nice that we get to play this version on console as well, with a number of extras that are definitely worth it! Graphically, the game is still gorgeous, and the new No Return mode and extras are well worth the entry price for current owners of the game. Anyone who, like me, didn't have time for The Last of Us Part II upon release will also absolutely enjoy getting this Remastered version into their home.

Releasing a remaster of such a prominent game just over three years after the original was certainly a gamble. Fortunately, Naughty Dog has combined the audiovisual restoration work (adequate and perceptible in some parts of the game, almost superfluous in others) with a general optimization that has improved the quality of the experience with a much more solid frame rate and noticeably faster loading. To further increase the value of this version we find a challenging and fun new roguelike mode, three cut mini-levels, skins to unlock and various other extras that further delve into the world of TLOU2, allowing us to discover all the details and secrets.

In short, we would like all remasters to be like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Here, Naughty Dog intelligently expands the content of the PS4 masterpiece, with - already - behind the scenes everything (Lost Levels, audio comments) and above all, a roguelite mode which really wowed us. It's simply the perfect excuse to dive back into the universe and visceral action of Part 2, with a lifespan now extended from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Even the small graphics boost, in 4K Native, has its effect - despite a slightly disappointing 30 FPS (even with VRR). In the end, a remaster that doesn't make fun of us at all.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered brings not just extra content but extra heart to an already much-loved game. This is one for the fans, with a plethora of additional features that highlight the best aspects of the game’s design whilst giving further context and glimpses into its development. Better graphics in both, Fidelity and Performance mode, the audio commentary during the solo campaign and especially the commented and playable dye prototype levels are solely worth the upgrade for owners of the PS4 original. But the best reason for them to play The Last of Us Part II Remastered is the new roguelike mode No Return. If you haven’t played the game yet, you should now get the PS5 version to get one of the best survival action games out there.
  35. 95
The Last of Us Part II Remastered might ring up an emotional toll that some aren't ready to part with so soon after its original launch, however it's still a worthwhile release thanks in large part to its celebratory behind-the-scenes glimpses at how the game came to be. Adding more value to the package is No Return, an excellent, compact roguelike that feels like an apt showcase for the game's blunt force combat.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered doesn't do much wrong, but apart from the roguelike mode it hardly offers any major innovations. Anyone who hasn’t yet experienced the post-apocalyptic adventure will now at least get the best possible version.

This remaster might feel a bit superfluous as the original PS4 version was already great. However, the added features including the commentary, deleted scenes and the new roguelike game mode are welcome additions. For new players, this remastered version is definitely the right choice. For owners of the PS4 version, the extras and extra graphical fidelity might be enough to entice the relatively small upgrade fee.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is generally what you'd expect for a current-generation iteration of a 3.5-year-old game. There's definitely enough extra content and enhancements to make it worthwhile but only if you're not burned-out by the original.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a more fully-featured and overall superior version of an already-incredible game. No Return makes it worth the $10 upgrade by itself, and the game is an absolute must-buy for anyone who has never played the PS4 original. The Lost Levels are a bit of a letdown and the graphics haven't gotten as much of an upgrade as some may have hoped, but this is still the definitive way to experience Naughty Dog's masterpiece.
  45. Jan 16, 2024
    90
If you still don't have your fill of The Last of Us Part II nearly four years after its arrival, this PS5 remaster is a pretty easy recommendation. No Return, in particular, gives Part II some post-game content of sorts that should keep it feeling fresh for the foreseeable future. This combined with the fact that The Last of Us Part II now looks better than ever before makes this the "definitive" version of the game and should help bridge the gap to a potential The Last of Us Part III.
  46. 90
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered adds some additional visual flair to a game that didn't really need any, but the new No Return roguelike mode makes it well worth the upgrade.

The remastered version of one of the best games of recent years offers the same masterpiece of action and storytelling with some technical improvements and interesting extras, such as the director's commentary, the discarded levels, and the addictive and excellent mode No Return. Graphically it is incredible, but the leap from PS4 is small. Some punctual problems in the rhythm and development of the main adventure.
  49. Jan 16, 2024

The great values of this remastering are the No Return mode, which highlights (even more) how brilliant its gameplay is, and all the light that the extras shed on the development of a work of this magnitude. Looking upon the whole package, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is an excellent upgrade. In many ways it's a sublime treat for fans of the series, with behind-the-scenes content that we lapped up, a survival mode worth the purchase price on its own, and small, albeit present visual and performative upgrades to one of the best games to come out of the PS4 generation. But more importantly, it's the perfect package for those looking to experience Ellie's tale for the first time; this divisive sequel still packs the same visceral punch that it did in 2020. Now partnered up with the Part 1 remake, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is the best way to experience this Naughty Dog masterpiece.

It does feel a bit too soon for The Last of Us Part II Remaster. And this just isn't the kind of game whose story I want to experience again. Not yet anyway. But Naughty Dog clearly knows this, and has put together a package with enough new modes and features to make the upgrade a winning proposition. And for those looking to play The Last of Us Part II for the first time on PS5, this is a great time to do it. You may love it, you may hate it, but trust me, you'll never forget it.

While remastering a game 3.5 years after its release is hard to justify, The Last of Us Part II Remastered still offers one of the best videogame experiences that now comes with the perks that PlayStation 5 has to offer. The new content in The Last of Us Part II Remastered as a whole is disappointing. The story mode is one of the all-time greats. Emotional, gripping, phenomenally written, and intense at times, this is the best way to play an absolute must-play. Therefore, it's impossible to not recommend it. It's just a shame the additional modes don't come close to living up to it.

Part II Remastered is worth a $10 upgrade for owners of the PlayStation 4 title. The visual updates in the main narrative (which is still worth the full price of admission) are small but add up over time. This month, HBO rolled out casting announcements for the TV show, so the discourse over this game’s story isn’t going to end anytime soon. At least now we can free ourselves of any prestige pretense with “No Return,” a digital action figure playset where we can act out our own revenge fantasies.

An excellent video game but not so much as a remaster, since the original video game already looked absolutely stunning in its original release. However, if you are amongst the few that did not play The Last of Us Part II when it first came out, then playing this entry on your PlayStation 5 will be an unforgettable experience. The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered tells a difficult, emotional story with phenomenal character development. This remaster doesn’t make any groundbreaking changes, but better technical support and the neat addition of No Return make a decent case for upgrading.

The Last of Us: Part II - Remastered is a fine but pointless upgrade. In a vacuum, it's a straight boost to the PS4 version in every way, and the $10 upgrade cost is probably worth it if just for No Return. For all of its glories and failures, Part II is still the same game, even more so than The Last of Us: Part I. It's the best version of the game but probably not something that players need to rush out to get.

Do I think The Last of Us 2 Remastered is worth it? Absolutely. At $10, it’s a no-brainer if you want to revisit TLoU2 on PlayStation 5. No Return is the most fun I've had with the game's stealth-action mechanics yet, and the DualSense haptics add depth to gameplay and cutscenes, putting tension on bow strings and adding physical context to dialogue through vibrations. If you’ve never played TLoU2 but have been waiting for the best version of it, this is it, despite the frame drop issues and the limited Making Of content. No Return is worth the price of admission alone.

Even with a fair chunk of the extra content feeling lacklustre, the core content, AKA the base game that launched back in 2020, is so good that it elevates The Last of Us: Part II Remastered out of middling waters.

The Last of Us 2 Remastered feels like an exercise in reanimating the corpse of a great game, without adding anything too meaningful. And as any piece of zombie media will tell you, when you mess with reanimation, you run the risk of losing the original soul.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered refines and improves a much misunderstood masterpiece. It's hard not to be amazed at how good this game still looks, and it comes with a new mode and some behind the scenes stuff to enjoy. It's not as big a step from the original release as TLOU Part 1 was, and so feels like a less noteworthy release, but the price for upgrading from PS4 is reasonable for what you get. For those who haven't played it, this will be the best version to play, even if it's just for No Return to add some more longevity without all the incredibly intense emotional stress of the main story.

If you have the Playstation 4 version and want to play the new modes, it's worth purchasing during a future promotion, not now. The remaster does bring some advantages, but it lacked a bit of common sense from Naughty Dog, which feels the need to squeeze every last drop from the Cordyceps franchise.

The Last of Us: Part II Remastered is a re-release that delivers the best and most complete version of this game. While the graphical changes do little to impress, the extra content is valuable for those hungry for more of Naughty Dog's grim universe. That said, it feels solely like it exists purely for commercial continuity, to capitalize on the hype of the HBO series and give another sales boost to Naughty Dog's video game.

Last of Us II Remastered could have been a cash grab with the success of the TV show, but instead feels like a solid upgrade with a reasonable path for owners of the original. The added content is more than worth the asking price, and the game remains one of the most impressive technical feats of all time.

It’s one of those moderately necessary remasters, but at least it’s reasonably priced, especially if you already own the game. It offers higher-resolution textures, an opportunity to experience three levels cut from the story campaign, and a quite extensive roguelike mode. These additions won’t blow you away, but they do justify paying 10 bucks for the PS5 upgrade.

Even if you love The Last Of Us 2. Even if you think it’s the Citizen Kane of video games. Even if you think that Shakespeare himself would have thrown in the towel after seeing this game, realising he could never compete with it as a storyteller, you must surely realise that a game that is four years old and is readily available on your current console doesn’t need the remaster. Surely you understand that this is a ridiculous excess, done purely to milk revenue out of fans, and that it’s particularly frustrating given that Sony is sitting on dozens of incredible properties. That it would rather leave all of them on ice and inaccessible to release this indulgence just isn’t acceptable.

Ultimately, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is functionally the same game with a few new features and some developer commentary. It feels like an attempt to capitalize on the success of the HBO series and to entice a new audience to jump into Part 2 before it's adapted into Season 2. But While the developer commentary is interesting and helps demystify the kind of work that goes into these extremely expensive video games, its new roguelike mode gets old fast. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered feels like an inevitability in terms of what the greater market demands, but that doesn’t mean it’s worth your time.

The Last of Us: Part II wants to follow in the footsteps of the first installment, but it doesn't get off to a good start. The new version is riddled with bugs and only climbs a few steps thanks to the exciting No Return mode, which makes the remaster a half tribute.

The “remastering” is of highly questionable value and the extra content is weak. No Return is a cheaply recycled and tawdry take on roguelite gameplay, while the Lost Levels were lost for a reason. Worse, such additions hammer a final nail into the coffin of this game’s creative ambition, definitively invalidating an already flimsy story with the kind of combat-focused experiences that communicate only one thing to the player - violent videogames are cool.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is not a remaster at all. At best it has some new features that should have been free. No Return roguelike game mode is lackluster and there is no point in playing it. TLOU combat was complementing the story, and it did so very well – unlike No Return which is basically hide and seek with extra steps. For a layman, the graphic improvements are unnoticeable, especially if you haven’t played it in a while, and there are a bunch of new bugs that were previously absent (falling through the ground, missing limbs on character models, etc). The lost chapters are neat to get some dev insight, but are almost unplayable, as they are mostly alpha. This should have been a free DLC for the fans and not a quick money grab. Naughty Dog, take a note from Santa Monica Studios.

Nothing in this Remastered is completely essential except Naughty Dog's work itself, which seems not to have aged one bit. [Recommended]

As a double-dip built for superfans, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a fine (though inaccurately titled) collector’s edition with some valuable archival material. But as an extension of Naughty Dog’s creative vision, it’s borderline mockery that turns a thoughtful story into a cruel punch line.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is the best way to play this truly excellent game, with sky-high stakes, stunning visuals, rewarding exploration, and phenomenally varied and thrilling combat. But to get the most out of it, you’ll probably need to have a stronger stomach than I do.

I’m not sure how long No Return will hold me — it’s still pretty grim, which means I’m probably not going to play it to relax the way I do with something like Fortnite — but it has given me a new appreciation for an element of the game I’d otherwise ignored.
