Tenebris Pictura is a mediocre game, but to some extent it has its own charm. The setting and story have an aura of Victorian mystery that carries you through to the end, although the pacing is lousy and there is much less substance than one might initially think. The combat system is a bit tedious, but it is the least relevant part of the whole package, which relies mainly on the puzzles, which are always interesting and, above all, extremely varied: no idea is ever recycled, and we are honestly amazed.

In spite of various problems found within Tenebris Pictura, the game still leaves a fairly positive impression by the end. Some of it doesn’t quite work, from its very downplayed narrative to its slightly-annoying combat, but it brings enough novel content to the table to be engaging. If you’re into atmospheric adventure games with clever puzzles and unique ideas, you’re likely to find something rewarding in Tenebris Pictura.

Tenebris Pictura doesn’t ever establish itself as a game you feel you must see all the way through. The world and puzzles may intrigue you, but the combat made us continually want to walk away from the game.

Tenebris Pictura is a game brimming with fantastic ideas hamstrung by poor execution.

There’s some good ideas in Tenebris Pictura, but, much like Pentadimensional’s other game, they’re buried by bigger ideas that are much, much worse.
