What a nice April Fool's joke from this game. Thankfully it came for free from Sony, so at least I can just delete it without feeling bad. I tried it recently because it got great reviews, and it was kind of just what I expected: a semi-boring survival game with a lot of gathering and re-gathering resources, a lot of walking (or in this instance, swimming) around with only a thin story for alibi. Then I got an invite to another game, I pressed ok, played around a bit, and the next day when I wanted to give one more chance Subnautica... it turned out that it doesn't have any auto-save. So 4 hours of gameplay (and not even very interesting gameplay)... GONE! Thanks for the joke. This is the reason we should have demos. Expand

Although better texture upgrades and draw distances would have been a nice addition, (and they are still better than either PC or PS4), this is the best version of Subnautica that I have ever played. Mod support would have also been nice. They reworked the environments, lighting, and animal behavior, which makes for a nice change and helps it feel fresh. It is also much more stable than the PC version, which is also a great improvement. It's definitely worth checking out. This is one of the best crafting, survival, exploration games i've ever played, and this is the best version of it. No other game has captured the feeling of being trapped in an alien, underwater environment quite as well as Subnautica. It's scary, it's fun, and it's entertaining. Expand

While Subnautica remains a brilliantly immersive and addictive survival adventure, the PS5 upgrade delivers less than we expected. Technically, the game is very similar to its successor, Subnautica: Below Zero, and yet falls short on both performance and visual quality in comparison. A free upgrade is always welcome, but perhaps Subnautica PS5 has automatically been made redundant by its superior sequel. Existing Subnautica players with a PS5 get a nice facelift, but there's little to justify this edition for newcomers.
