Jun 21, 2023The addition of 12 underplayed Game Gear Sonic titles and a playable Amy Rose are more than welcome in this beefed up version of Sonic Origins.
-
Jul 21, 2023While I don’t think Sonic Origins Plus will convince doubters of the initial release to convert and I still have my qualms over some of the presentation choice, there’s no doubt that Sega managed to make a solid package even better.
-
Jun 28, 2023The reissue of the collection that delighted all Sonic nostalgics last year fleshes out its offer with a handful of titles with fluctuating quality: devoid of those small modernization processes that had characterized the first chapters of the series in the last edition , Sonic Origins Plus games originally released on the Game Gear are more distinguished by their historical value. The addition of Amy as a playable character is an important step for the entire saga, but her moveset does not revolutionize the approach to those levels that we have now learned by heart. Basically, if you missed the 2022 appointment, you absolutely must make this expanded edition yours. Die-hard fans of the pet with base experience might think seriously about upgrading, everyone else should think twice.

Jun 27, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is inching toward being a definitive Sonic the Hedgehog anthology of classic games, some of which are remastered. The inclusion of Amy and the Game Gear titles are arguably two steps forward, but the quality of those emulated titles in comparison to their remastered counterparts and lack of Genesis and Master System titles are two steps back. Either way, for Sonic fans who do not yet own Sonic Origins on their PS5, Sonic Origins Plus should be a very easy recommendation.
-
Jun 21, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is an updated version that pays homage to the iconic story of Sonic the Hedgehog. This collection offers a wide range of playable experiences ranging from the classic original games to exciting additions and a selection of Game Gear titles.
-
Jun 29, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is the best way to play 16-bit Sonic video games. Skill challenges, modes specifically designed for speedrunners, and the ability to play each level with all the series' main characters make this collection a must-have for Sonic fans, despite the quite high price. The museum, once all the entries have been unlocked, is a great source of information, and the platformer action is still able to entertain after thirty years. The Game Gear section is unlikely to spark interest, but the more the content, the higher the value.
-
Jun 21, 2023Even while retaining some flaws, this is a comprehensive collection that will attract any fan of Sonic adventures in particular and platforming games in general.
-
Jun 21, 2023This was a great collection that got even better, although some decisions, such as deliberately skipping better versions of certain titles or the lack of CRT filters, are hard to justify.
-
Aug 24, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is the best way to celebrate the hedgehog's past with 16 fun titles. The upgrades to the main four make them pretty flashy even by today's standards, but the Game Gear installments could have gotten more love than this collection did. It's still highly recommended for old and new fans alike.
-
Aug 23, 2023Although the Sonic Origins Collection is aimed at those who are nostalgic for early days of Blue Blur, we believe that new players will also enjoy these improved versions of the beloved 2D games that graced a beautiful period of the 90s. Game Gear games are just cherry on the top!
-
Jun 26, 2023So, in the end, if you haven’t picked-up Sonic Origins, yet, you can now get a lot more for your money. If you’ve been playing Sonic Origins off and on over the past year, the real decision point for you is whether or not you want the additional Game Gear games. Adding Amy won’t mean much to you unless you want to play through the Sonic games again with a new character. And adding new music, backgrounds, and animations to a game that you stopped playing won’t really get you to start playing it again, will it? Personally, I think that there’s enough new here if you’re interested in Sonic Game Gear games to warrant a purchase, though. You probably went for the original game at least partially out of a sense of nostalgia anyway, right?
-
Jun 23, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is the definitive way to play the classic Sonic games, and it’s great to have a new way to have the Game Gear titles, but there is no much relevant improvement between this one and Sonic Origins.
-
Jun 22, 2023Sonic Origins Plus still can't be considered the most comprehensive collection of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog titles. From a completionist's standpoint, it would've been nice to have Sonic 3D Blast, and the Genesis version of Sonic Spinball and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Others will lament the fact that the original music for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 remains missing. The inclusion of 12 Game Gear titles makes this feel like a better value, while the modified versions of the original four titles are still a great way for new players to experience these classics without dealing with the things that don't fly in modern game design. For fans of old-school platformers, Sonic Origins Plus is well worth checking out.
-
Jun 21, 2023If you were thinking about buying Sonic Origins, picking up this expanded and enhanced edition instead is pretty much a no-brainer. Even though you might not get much fun out of the Game Gear games, the benefits provided by the other DLC packs plus being able to take control of new characters makes it worth it. For those who already own Sonic Origins, however, whether or not to upgrade is something that should be given some thought. Do you remember these Game Gear games fondly and want to revisit them? Consider it a must-have. If not, weigh up just how much you’d like to play as Amy, as well as Knuckles in Sonic CD. That’s your answer.
-
Jun 21, 2023This Sonic package is a complete and veritable explosion of ‘90s Sonic nostalgia.
-
Jun 21, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is a title that should not be missing in the collection of any fan of the very fast blue hedgehog and SEGA mascot: it updates the historical chapters of the franchise to high definition, in an always respectful operation that enriches graphics and mechanics. It must also be said, however, that we are dealing with the exact same offer as last year, with the addition of Amy as a playable character and twelve titles dedicated to Sonic and Tails from the Game Gear era.
-
Jun 21, 2023If you never bought Sonic Origins, then Sonic Origins Plus is an essential addition to your gaming library, and proof that some games are timeless. You don’t have to have nostalgia for the originals to enjoy these four games, it is almost impossible not to enjoy yourself while running through the zones. My issue is that the additions don’t give much more than the Premium Sonic Origins, and that Premium content should have been included from the start.
-
Jun 21, 2023Sonic Origins was great, and Sonic Origins Plus is great plus. It’s that simple. It’s a fun collection made a little more fun with the adequate addition of Amy Rose, Knuckles in Sonic CD, and a dozen emulated Game Gear games. Some of those Game Gear games I dare say are even still worth playing today, especially Sonic Triple Trouble. Sonic Origins Plus also adds in the Classic Music Pack and Premium Fun Pack add-on content that was made available for the original release. So if you want to play most of the classic Sonic games ever made in one place, you might as well pick this up and have a fun time.
-
Jun 21, 2023Sonic Origins keeps the focus on the hedgehog's early core entries, polishing them up to a fine sheen and creating an addictive ecosystem around them that breathes new life into each title. The new and improved Plus version is a bit of a mixed bag of additions, but more is still better, especially for anyone picking it up for the first time as a complete package.
-
Jun 21, 2023Sonic Origins Plus is an interesting package in theory, but it doesn't add enough relevant content. Amy is definitely cool to be playable, but her moves are pretty simple. And Game Gear games are a good way to remember the past (even with the strange sound), but it's inexplicable not having Master System games. PS: the score reflects the entire package with the base game and not just the DLC.
-
Jun 21, 2023In its current state, Sonic Origins Plus feels like a missed opportunity. I still recommend it to own these classic Sonic games on console or PC, but I'm hoping Sega fixes the scaling at least in the future.
-
Jun 30, 2023As a complete package Sonic Origins Plus is a decent collection for series fans and newcomers alike. But as a DLC its merely a collection of curios you can probably do without.
-
Jul 16, 2023Is it a good Sonic collection? Yes, very much - and the addition of the Game Gear games is just the icing on the cake. But still, the tactics that Sega employed with this game collection, plus the fact that it is still missing some fixes bugs me a lot.
-
Jun 28, 2023While the Game Gear games in Sonic Origins Plus don’t look, sound, or play great, the problem comes down to these games not being that good originally — not that they're bad ports. Buy Sonic Origins Plus for the Genesis games and to play as Amy, but don't expect the Game Gear games to run away with your heart.
-
Jun 27, 2023While Sonic Origins Plus’ additions feel like they should have been in the base game, Amy is a delight to play as. She’ll have you playing these four excellent games in new ways, despite some odd design decisions. Unfortunately, the selection of Game Gear games have not aged well and are marred by some terrible sound emulation.
-
Jun 22, 2023Sonic Origins Plus contains some cracking Sonic games, but the collection is somewhat lacking and the added content is average at best.
-
Jul 24, 2023Sonic and friends will always have a special place in our hearts for all those great memories, and that’s probably why SEGA is sacrificing quality and using Sonic’s name to generate money.
-
Jun 29, 2023If you’ve already got the base game, I can’t imagine you’ll get much out of Origins Plus. If you grew up playing the Game Gear, great news! These are twelve colorful trips down memory lane. Otherwise, I don’t recommend it. Turns out Sega’s first portable gaming experiment aged rather poorly. Sonic Origins is a fun and accessible way to play Sonic’s greatest hits. But Origins Plus spends too much time on bland, awful games.
