Planet Zoo is the ultimate Simulator game; incredible visuals, sleek menus and design, with a thoughtful story that keeps you engaged the whole time. Authentic animals and locations, coupled with depth that is unrivalled in this genre, Planet Zoo is a beautiful and memorising experience. Great variety in game modes and a truly unique online experience help keep this game refreshing and exciting no matter how much you play. It’s a testament to Frontier that I cannot wait to go back into my zoo and continue to innovate and create my ultimate sanctuary for the animals. A simulator game for the whole Animal Kingdom.

As complicated as Planet Zoo: Console Edition may seem, those who are willing to learn its main mechanics will not only be faced with a great simulator, but also a game that uses its concept to introduce important themes about environmental awareness.

There are quite a few zoo sims out there, ranging from pixel art constructions to Planet Zoo, which is definitely the ultimate game in the genre. For those without the requisite PC, the PS5 port does a generally outstanding job of translating the Planet Zoo experience to console. It’s genuinely educational, engaging, and addictive fun. I wish the new edition was just a bit more generous with content at launch, but there’s plenty there to work with. Animal and sim lovers should rejoice, Planet Zoo has arrived on consoles at last.

Planet Zoo: Console Edition offers so much to do, but a lot of work has been put into making it transition nicely to consoles. There's a hefty tutorial and constant help throughout, and with some gorgeous visuals it's well worth trying.

Despite its intimidating start, this is a game stuffed with challenge and replay value, proving that perseverance makes things far more bear-able, indeed. [Issue#40, p.88]

The pricing policy is a little of a problem, and the console version suffers from a few (admittedly minor) slowdowns, but this does little to alter our overall impression of Planet Zoo. This console version finally enables a larger number of us to enjoy this gem of a game.

Planet Zoo isn’t for casual sim fans. It’s big, it’s complicated and it’s demanding, but it’s also an impressively intricate creativity tool for anyone who grew up wishing Zoo Tycoon had a bit more going for it. With so much content, even more to come, and a fanbase and developer who constantly share their ideas and love for the genre throughout the wonderful Workshop, it’s hard to imagine a simulation doing it better than this.

After an incredible run on PC, Planet Zoo is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S thanks to its Console Edition. A wider number of players now have the opportunity to enjoy a very rich simulator where complexity, beauty and, above all, love for animals reign.

Planet Zoo: Console Edition offers the same enjoyable park building as its PC forerunner, and though it’s a slightly slower experience, Frontier have done an excellent job translating the detailed park building to controller.

I wouldn't describe the console edition as being the definitive version of Planet Zoo, but it's still a solid port of the game that animal lovers have been hungering for for years.

It’s safe to say that Frontier has done a fantastic job bringing Planet Zoo: Console Edition to life. Playing on console is just as joyous as playing on PC, even if it may take a little while to get used to the controls. It’s intuitive enough, though, and it’s a game worth persevering for: growing your own zoo, seeing your animals thrive in your built environments and watching your visitors have a jolly old time in your park is endlessly rewarding.

If you want to build a zoo and you’re on console then look no further than Planet Zoo: Console Edition. There is plenty on offer and you can get lost in perfecting your ideal zoo. Conservation is made to feel important and what matters is the welfare of the animals, but you will need to balance that with earning money and receiving donations from anyone coming through the gates.

Planet Zoo: Console Edition does not completely pull off the PC-to-console transition from a control standpoint, leading to bouts of frustration. But it has enough charm and depth that will make it difficult for genre fans to ignore.

Planet Zoo is, ironically, a relatively toothless park building game. It doesn't have the delicious chaos of the Jurassic World Evolution games or the thrills of building your own rollercoaster and then hoping it'll stay on the tracks in Planet Coaster. But it's a pleasant and charming game. There's an airy joy in creating a peaceful home for animals to live in, and the earnest conservationist slant of Planet Zoo is hard to fault.

Hampered by control and interface issues, Planet Zoo is a neutered and dishevelled version of the graceful beast it is on PC. It has an abundance of content, a wonderfully educational attitude to conservation and the presentation value is top-notch. If it wasn’t for the crippling issues I faced running my zoos, this would be the definitive virtual safari management title.
