Downgrade from Overwatch. 100% a store to sell you things and like 30% hero shooter that you knew and loved. 5v5 is not better than 6v6. Don’t know why they thought it would be. My guess is that by this time next year, Overwatch 2 will revert back to 6v6. The real rub of Overwatch 2 is how much it is not a sequel but instead a nerf of Overwatch 1. All maps are too bright, character design is more cartoony, animations have not improved, many characters are non-viable, new characters are no longer free, a few game modes are gone, and there are no more fun loot boxes as an incentive to keep playing. Certain characters that were good for strategy (meaning good for people who aren’t good at video games) like Tjorbjorn, Bastion, and Reinhardt are just worse. If you don’t play sweaty, you might as well not play at all. Overwatch was a fun game that I could jump into from time to time and enjoy a play of the game or grab a legendary skin after a match now and then. Overwatch 2 is not that game. Hard to say who Overwatch 2 was made for. Honestly, who wants all sweaty matches and wants to pay hundreds of dollars for in-game items. Lucrative? Maybe. Popular, doubtful. Definitely not the game I want and not the kind of business practices I want to support.

Update: I gave Overwatch 2 more chances and playing it more doesn’t make it better. You can look at queue times and see that 2 out of 5 players do not want to play support roles. But rather than design the game around the roles people want to play, Blizzard creates weak incentives for people to play support. Tanks are overpowered and that ruins all other game modes such as deathmatch and open queue games. The once popular Total Mayhem game mode is now unplayable because one hero is unkillable. The Push game mode has become unbearable. The maps are a mess and gameplay has no feeling of strategy. The 5v5 format has limited gameplay options anyway. One healer will stick to the one tank like a lamprey on a shark. This support role might as well be played by a.i. The game has a strong feeling of a lack of play testing. If Overwatch 1 was back, Imwould play that instead. I think most of the community would.

The massive BUT here comes in how they’ve gone about gutting and replacing all progression systems from the original. While loot boxes were scummy, the new method is - while perhaps being less predatory, far worse for how much you can earn through gameplay. Things like Legendary Skins are now doubled in price, and the currency can only be earned in the most minuscule amounts, or bought for real world money. Via weekly challenges you can seemingly earn a maximum of 60 coins if you finish all challenges, while the skins cost 1900 coins. The insane grind can of course be circumvented by dishing out $20 USD for a single skin. Anyone looking to defend this as an alternative to loot boxes is lost in the sauce. Any argument that it’s fair because it’s free to play is utter rubbish. Overwatch 2 sets a new precedent for online games, even if you owned a physical copy the game you paid money for is now gone and replaced by something that - while similar in gameplay, has changed so much on the backend that just feels awful from a casual player standpoint.

A very underwhelming game. Ever since the release it hasn't felt the same as it used to which is a good thing in some ways but in others it is terrible. it has multiple unbalanced characters and maps. it makes the game unplayable sometimes. don't recommend to anyone.

    1) the monetization is just downright bad, 1 legendary skin is nearly £20 and so is the "best" version of the battle pass witch is ultimately a let down.

The next problem is that the coins that are required to buy anything, are only obtainable in two ways, by either buying them with real money, or completing 11 weekly challenges for 60 coins witch is not enough for even the cheapest items in the store.

Legendry's cost 1100 coins so at a max of 60 coins a week it would take almost 19 weeks for one skin or what blizzard wants is for your £20.

2)the lack of incentives is also a problem and it ties into the 1st problem being because everything cool is locked behind a pay wall you'll have nothing to grind for or feel accomplishment for unlocking.
one way to fix both problems would be to increase the coins gained from challenges and add the coins to daily and sessional challenges as well, and add coins in free tears of the battle pass and some of the paid tears to incentives grinding that out.

Something else to look at is the fact that blizzard could be doing a 2 steps forward 1 step back by making it really bad monetization wise now only to go a little bit back so consumers are more ok with some still very predatory ways of making money from you.

finally the game its self is still enjoyable but that shouldn't give the other problems a free pass.

edit: a legendary is actually 1900 coins so at a max of 60 a week it will take around 32 weeks of grind for one skin

    First game was good, R.I.P.
Second - somewhat playable, but only like any generic mobile hero shooter with awful monetization.... and there are many better games in this category already...
They managed to ruin like 90% of good things that existed in the first game...

I bought a battle pass but after seeing how long it takes levels to go up I can say I wish things were earned how they used to be earned even if it was with loot boxes. And the actual gameplay is worse. I hate how much they changed Orisa instead of making a new character, some characters are so OP at the moment that I find myself getting killed quickly, and due to server issues I sometimes don't even know how I get killed sometimes. Due to lag from the servers (I know it's servers & not my internet as this was never a problem I had with Overwatch 1) characters on both sides and myself zip all over the map sometimes where I will be shooting an enemy and then they vanish and reappear. Or I'll be shooting enemies and then I'm dead with my health going from full to zero. All in all it's very frustrating and I don't know why they pushed this game out as it's obviously filled with bugs. I miss the Original Overwatch and 2 hasn't even been out a week.

And I got to play the new push mode once and due to the server issues it made it very frustrating and tedious

My main problems with this "sequel": almost zero changes, tons of problems on the lunch, crazy ranked placements, not enough support players because they are terrorized by genji and Sombra when tank is soaking damage, PvE is not available and most likely won't be free. Monetization in general is absurd. 20$ for 1 skin?
Can anyone really differentiate ow 1 and 2 in terms of graphics?

In terms of gameplay they just remove 1 tank and added ping. Wow, what an evolution. And we are saying that Fifa and CoD are the same every year. Seems they called it ow 2 just to apply new monetization system. Not sure if they really have some developers there, only the marketing team. My bet that at some point they will add gotcha system there. Blizzard is officially in bioware club now.

In order to have some progression and earn stuff (since there aren’t levels anymore) for the time you spent on the game (mostly suffering other players), you will be filling a “XP” bar to complete a battle pass that you need to pay to gain access to a Premium battle pass with no really premium rewards, even after paying you need to heavily grind it. This is easily one of the biggest scams in video games history. In most of the games with a BP, if you manage to complete it, it rewards you back the complete cost of the BP itself though the levels, but that’s not the case, here you can have some ridiculous rewards as premium graffitis, voice lines, player icon, banners or the brand-new souvenirs that no one likes. That’s not the only issue with the game, but it’s my main concern as an original OW player. This game gets very boring so fast since there's no progression, there's no point on continue playing anymore. Free to play doesn’t mean you can abuse your users like that. There is absolutely no upgrade from the original OW. Everything looks and feels the same. They just slapped "2" next to the name as a marketing strategy because they decided to make the game F2P after the player-base died.

Everything is now locked behind ridiculous grinding and absurd weekly "challenges" that ask you to invest hours upon hours to complete them because they are based on luck (e.g., get 20 team kills). You need to pay 20 euro for a skin-recolor, or farm for 8 months to get it "free." The supposed "free" rewards from the Battlepass are joke-sprays and voice-lines. All the real things are locked behind the premium pay-wall.

The new "free" players that joined are entirely oblivious to FPSs and make games very frustrating. They cannot DPS, they cannot flank, they cannot heal. They pick Moira and play her like its Call of Duty.

Overall a disgusting re-release by Blizzard/Activision/ Microsoft (or whatever company they sold themselves too nowadays).

firstly, this isn't even a sequel, it's just overwatch 1 made free to play for everyone. the only catch is, you're not allowed to play, and your original account gets completely wiped. 0.8/10 is too generously high of a score. should be 0/10.

Overwatch 2 has the same strengths as the first game. It's a new version of an enjoyable multiplayer shooter. But it lacks many essential things. The servers don't work well, it doesn't have a lot of new content and buying new stuff is extremely expensive. The gameplay is excellent, and the foundation is set, but there's still a long road ahead.
