So, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl is a fair game in the end. While it can be fun, there are some flaws that can hold it back but overall, this is a fair smash clone that has potential.

Nickelodeon could have had something great with this game, but in the end it feels soulless. Nickelodeon has a massive catalogue of cartoons and source material, but somehow this game still managed to feel pretty generic. The music doesn’t meet the potential, the levels are themed after the original cartoons but it feels like a generic level designed in the Smash Bros level creator. A lot of missed potential.

So that leaves the gameplay, which isn’t bad, but it’s not spectacular. I do appreciate that it has some degree of complexity, but it does feel like it has some balancing issues. There are too many moves that are easy to exploit and spam. Which really waters the game down to a game you can pick up and play in a few short bursts, but then don’t really have much reason to revisit. It’s not a terrible game, you can have a little fun with it, but it’s not going to hook into you the same way other fighting games do.

This game has always been quite fun, I mean in 2021 I played this a lot and had a great time, but ever since 2022 the game fell down hard, like i cant play causal anymore, but since the dlc was announced i came back to it, and the game was good! I could play causal ALOT easier than before, and the gamplay felt kind of good but a little clunky. The graphics aren't great but still passable. This game has always been quite fun, I mean in 2021 I played this a lot and had a great time, but ever since 2022 the game fell down hard, like i cant play causal anymore, but since the dlc was announced i came back to it, and the game was good! This is the definition of a game so overhyped that it ended up hurting it in the long run. All Star Brawl is a step up from slap city, but not by much. The character roster is small, even with DLC, the movement is jank, and the games 3 button layout is very awful to play with. Just play Multiversus instead, as that game is free and is way better than this $50 game.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is, well, fine. It will provide a good few hours of harmless fun and raise more than a few smiles in the nostalgia sector of the cortex as Reptar beats on April O'Neil. Underneath that initial sheen however is nothing of real interest. Thankfully, support seems to be very much active and maybe the initial issues will be focused on to provide a more well-rounded, in-depth experience. For now, though, the shadow of its inspiration looms heavy and ensures that this will not be challenging for any place in the top tier of party'esque fighters for some time.

There's a good skeleton to Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl. The fighting is fast and extremely deep, despite having only one more attack button over the Super Smash Bros. series. For pro-type players who always play without items and can quickly master the game's nuances, this is excellent. However, the presentation is as basic as the game's modes, and the lack of anything that provides more of a Nickelodeon "feel" (e.g., voices and music) makes the whole thing feel rather cheap. While the online performance can be good, it doesn't matter much if there's no community behind it. The game is a contender, but some serious effort in more than a few areas needs to be done if Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl or a potential sequel wants to be taken more seriously.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is the most disappointing kind of game as it’s one that offers so much promise and then fails to deliver on it, even when it comes to the most obvious, low-hanging fruit.
