    Need for Speed Unbound is all about taking risks, not just because its one of the game's core elements, but the developers also took the risks in turning the wheel to another direction that no other racing game franchises would do. In my opinion, it all paid off.

    NFS heat in a new city with pretty art added on top. The game forced me through the first race 3 times... Gas and clutch are switched, steering on my wheel feels awful. Hands down the worst wheel "support" I've ever seen. Unintuitive and uncustomizable controls. A racing game that won't let you set up your racing steering wheel controller.... Wow. Classic EA.

    I dont really see this game being any different than nfs heat. i dont know why this game gets so much hype. also i hate the fact that this idio* named LPRIPPER just tries every single way to idolize this game so much. probably paid guy. his image of lashing on ppl doesnt help either

    initially I was turned off by the stylized aesthetic of this game but after playing, I quickly became fond of it. I don't think NFS Unbound is better than Forza or Gran Turismo but it's different and that's a good thing. It's just a really fun arcade style racer.

    Luckily steam accepted my request to return my money. I played for eight hours and it was annoying. I drove the same track (different race) over and over again. The Voice lines have been always the same and the handling and Motorsounds were just not good.

    But the biggest problem is the Multiplayer... I can't drive my Cars. That was the point I quit and got my money back.

    I played it and it feels like a completely different game, it's not those dull NSF with terrible physics, it's something else. I like the effects here, but you usually don't notice them and get used to it in a couple of minutes of playing. As for me, this is the best nsf at the moment

    Brought back my love for racing games. Performance on PS5 at 4k 60fps. Great character creator. Great vehicle customization. Beautiful city of Lakeshore (Chicago, Illinois). Excellent story and an aesthetic that stands out from any other racing game. All they need is to continue to provide updates to this game. They let go of NFS Heat too early but this could be the one.     This game feels like Midnight Club and Fast and Furious had a baby that was raised by Burnout. 10/10 visuals and gameplay feels like I’m actually a street racer and not just a glorified car collector. Don’t be surprised if boomers give low reviews because they like Forza or don’t want this game to be better than UG2 or MW

    Very fun game! Graphics are great! I’ve been staying up all night playing NFS Unbound. Just wish they’ll add more things to do online and add Toyota and Audi cars as well.

    Copy-paste from Heat (and Heat wasn't good in the first place), but with cartoon effects and pedestrians, who feels so real, that they teleport away from you.

    Yes, this game is based on NFS Heat. but this game makes it better. For handling, it takes some tuning and getting used to, but once you get it, it is different. Both grip and drift styles have their merits now. Better graphics, Better Handling, Better customization and better world design

    Might not be the perfect game, but easily the best NFS we've had in the last almost 10 years now. Very good visuals, very good handling (except for light rear engine cars, they have fishtailing problems that I hope get fixed later down the line), decent progression, excellent customization, but lackluster multiplayer. Looking forward to the live service they'll provide.

    I feel the game lacks a lot of things, first the handling of cars is the worst I've seen in a NFS game, stupid animations that you cannot turn off, and multiplayer has only few races you can play, without any exciting events.
    The graphics are fine, but the handling kills it completely for me.     Trying to do races at night on Heat level 5 and all I'm doing is driving away from cops. I finally get away and have 2 helicopters hovering above me, one not moving, and 2 to 3 cop cars spawning close to me. All I do is run away from cops at night, when all the good stuff is happening.

    Очень приятно удивлен. Ожидал очередной проходняк, а получилась достойная игра. Эффекты зашли, геймплей пушка, выбор авто достаточный. Стабильный фпс. Единственное графон явно не некстген.

    After spending around 30+ hours in story mode, I have to say this is one of the best NFS I have played in the past decade. The graphics are amazing, the story, while being a bit cheesy at times, is still pretty good with decent dialogue. The handling physics have gotten an overhaul but they are not too far off what NFS Heat had, just with many required    Review based on story mode:

    The addition of burst nitrous makes every single action feel rewarding, and the effects you can add to your car do not get in the way of gameplay, they just enhance it.

    Only gripes are lackluster multiplayer and photo mode, but there are content updates planned so I will update the review as they come.

    The grind for cash is fun and rewarding. Saving and planning sessions to tackle the most events and get the most cash and make it home without being overwhelmed by police is a lot of fun.

    This game is fun and all in all, it is quite enjoyable for me.

    This is the THPS5 of NFS games. The graphics and art style look very similar, and it's the same sort of low point for the series. Ignore the paid promoters, this game is pure disappointment. Do yourself a favor and play the EA Play trial before you buy if you are really interested.

    Crazy enough I have played every need for speed to date since the first and I have to say this is probably the best NFS since Underground 2. I mean visually, gameplay and all of course not every game is perfect it could always be better but it’s a hell of a start for us true need for speed fans. We are headed in the right direction after so many years of being let down!!!

    excellent game, largely deserves his 8/10.

    art : the overall style of the game is different from all the other games from the license but the devs did a fantastic job and made the game very cool/fun to play. 8/10 story : when writing this review i just did 1/4 of the story but honestly, the story is really nice and lots of fun references throughout the whole game, I'm sure i will    excellent game, largely deserves his 8/10.

Driving model is not ideal but the addition of grip handling was a great idea for which fans begged for years. Other than that, story has a good premise but could be a lot more fleshed out. Customization is back albeit some parts are unfortunately missing. SoundtrackUnbound is a step in the right direction for sure. It really seems to be what NFS Heat should've been if they had more time. Driving model is not ideal but the addition of grip handling was a great idea for which fans begged for years. Other than that, story has a good premise but could be a lot more fleshed out. Customization is back albeit some parts are unfortunately missing. Soundtrack is maybe not outstanding but you won't bleed from your ears after one hour like in the 2019 outing of the NFS. Overall it is a great game that hopefully will become foundation for the future titles (with or without that art style).… Expand

    and the effects takes me off of the experience, no problem with the "anime" style, just that is a half ass implementation, no Auto Modellista levels of well made cellshaded graphics, is fun but no for long... and is not worth the price on steam criterion games was the first to make need for speed a generic racing game and    The gameplay os OK more of the same

    Also this art style of characters is so unique and i kinda like it.
    Plus there are no racing games to out right now besides forza to play. Forza is all about festival and races. If you want that driving thrill,NOS and undefeated customization...Unbound is the way to go!!

    If I were to compare this to Forza Horizon 5 which i would rate 7/10 because of all the issues i had with that game at launch,unbound crushes it and probably for the first time in many years,NFS is back on top of the game!!    … Expand

El juego es una completa maravilla visual, y en lo jugable es aún mejor, aun más si lo comparamos con entregas anteriores, la historia es más que cumplidora y te Incita a explorar los distintos modos de manejo, el agregado de poder correr con grip hace aún mejor la experiencia el manejo es diferente y después de que te adaptas a un set up resulta bastante agradable, en lo personal compre la palace edition solo por los días de juego anticipado pero no me arrepiento en lo absoluto de la compra, como todo, tiene sus detalles como que se desvíe el coche cuando utilizas el nitro en las curvas, y el tener que definir 1 sola pose de victoria lo hace parecer repetitivo, si se pudieran seleccionar varias para rotarlas sin necesidad de estar cambiándolas estaría Perfecto, y también estaría bien que te dejasen ir al garaje sin tener que avanzar en el ciclo de día/noche si lo que buscas es solo hacer alguna corrección en el auto o tu personaje, pero en general me encanto… Expand

    If you like racing games like midnight club LA and many other arcade racing games you’ll love this game I believe it’s one of the best nfs games since 2005 has a great soundtrack and the graphics are really good on ps5 the dual sense controller makes it even a better experience give it at shot you won’t regret it

    I grew up with this series and watching it grow as big as it is now has been crazy. This game series has always revolved itself around what is popular in car and music culture, and this game is no different.     It is really nice to drive down a hill with 350 km / h in an online racer and the physics actually giving you a feeling of enough control to feel good and a loss at high speeds of feeling challenging.

    I’ve only played 2 hours of it and I’m already enjoying it like from the days when I played nfs underground 1 n 2 and I have play every nfs game and it feels like I’m playing back in the old days but yeah all negative reviews are just forza kids coming to crap on a great game

    It's not bad entry for the series. One thing is the sound is pretty bad. Levels are all over the place, when someone talks which is all the bloody time , all other sounds get turned down.

    Really fun to play,i like the art syle and the gameplay is fun.I thought i won’t like the driving effects but i do love them when i started playing.

    Best nfs game since probably the last hot pursuit, it’s basically need for speed heat 2.0 but 100 times better they improved on every aspect of the game ,my favorite nfs game is nfs most wanted 2005 and this game brings my hopes back on the franchise, I hope they can keep going up from now on and improving. Thank god criterion is back they don’t miss.

    No Night and Day Cycle and No cops?

    No racing by yourself against bots, only against other players? I can't find anyone who wants to race anything other than S tier.

    Finally, separating online and single player progress, while I understand why it was done I think it the worst part. That was my favorite part about Heat. once I was done with my friends I could just continue what I was doing in my campaign.

    I will not be buying this game until it is a finished product, because right now it certainly isn't.    … Expand

    I am so happy that fun NFS game is back. Love the new art style. Racing during the rainy night with cops behind you and cool pumping soundtrack, it really got me. Car tuning is really nice and map is very well designed.

    Game is nice. I'm always glad that devs are trying to implement something new, and i hope that Criterion won't give up on the game like Ghost did on NFS Heat.

    If you've loved arcade racers like Most Wanted 2005, Midnight Club LA, Burnout Paradise, Heat, then you'll likely love this game too. Frenetic 60fps racing fun in a beautiful big city that feels alive with plenty of traffic, pedestrians, and parked cars.

    After playing for 2 days I can confidently say that this is the best NFS I've played since a long time. The handling feels good, the graphics are really convincing and the game's theme is really well put together. And still haven't encountered a single bug, which is odd considering the current era we're in.

    Highly recommend.

    Just really fun. Great graphics. Unique art style. Cars are awesome. Soundtrack slaps. A better game than Forza Horizon 5 imo. Big surprise for sure but a great surprise.

You start with total crap cars. Handling is laggy and not consistent with controller. Drifting is unpredictable and if you hit nitro after drifting you are loosing speed, witch is really stupid or a bug.     NFS Unbound perspective of an NFS fan:

    When I saw the trailers I really didn't like the new graphic style with the anime elements, I then tested the game via ea play and the longer I play the game the more I like the mix of anime and photorealism. Also, the music in this game is really well chosen, the feeling and thrill of street racing or being chased by the cops is just incredible    NFS Unbound perspective of an NFS fan:

    This is by far the most fun I’ve had in a racing game in years. I found Heat to be very boring on gameplay making it not enjoyable. I like the extra neon, smoke effects reminds me of the days with Underground 1 & 2. Also this NFS sense of speed is exactly what I would like out of a racing game.     After playing the EA Play trial (10h), I can say Unbound is a step in the right direction, but the game is held back by the Frostbite Engine.

    + Racing is competitive and cop chases can be quite intense (again, better than what Heat delivered)
    + I like the new gameplay features (meetups, rivals, weekly events, high risk - high reward mechanics)
    + The story and characters are better than what we got with Heat (still annoying at times, but it's Need for Speed after all)
    + Creative artists involved in creating graffiti, tags, particles, car body parts, etc.
    + It's fun to play, not going to lie

    - The graphics: this is a pretty game overall, but definitely not "next-gen". The roads look blurry and shiny; the environment (rocks, foliage, buildings, etc) looks flat, lacks depth and high quality textures. Reflections are overdone and everything looks like a mirror. Generally speaking, everything lacks contrast, with the HDR feature being completely broken on release. To be honest, Driveclub had better details although it was released in 2014 on older hardware.

    - The physics: everything in this game lacks the proper weight. Destructible elements (fences, traffic signs, small trees, etc.) seem to be made out of paper. Crashing into other cars or buildings is completely unpredictable (and unrealistic most of the times): you don't know if your car is simply going to stop or start flying and spinning in the air, completely defying the law of gravity. At times I couldn't tell the difference between driving a car in NFS or a light-armored vehicle in Battlefield 2042 (which probably uses a slightly different version of the same engine).

    - Character customization: how is this supporting self-expression if I can only wear streetwear outfits? It's impossible to create a non-edgy character in this game.

    - The price: In no way, shape or form this game is worth $85 (local price in my country, for the PS5 standard edition, digital format). I'll wait for a deep discount before purchasing the full game.

    Verdict: if you care about the details, don't buy this game until it's discounted. If you liked Heat and you just want to have fun, get the game and start playing :)    … Expand

    I'm loving it so far, handling and physics are a lot more polished than Heat, it allows much closer racing and it really shows in online. Customization better, sounds better, world better and more alive. I love the art-style of characters and I really don't mind the effects, it's just something new and sets the game further apart from other franchises.

    I have not finished the story yet but I am enjoying it a lot more than the story in heat. There are some cringe dialogue but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
    I am also enjoying the progression more as it seems a lot slower paced.
    If you have enjoyed the recent NFS and don't mind criterion trying to set the franchise apart from other racing titles, then I really recommend this game.

    From the first minute till my 10th hour with the game(based off of early access trial, full game standard edition pre-ordered), I can safely say that Criterion has revived the series and in such amazing way possible!     In all honesty, this is a solid game. You could start this game up, have a ton of fun with it, and leave it behind in the end with a good feeling. Is that feeling worth 70+ dollars? I don't think so. Let me explain in more detail.

    Graphics: I mean what else is there to say? Its a gorgeous game. Some people will have different opinions on the cartoony effects, lighting, shadows, etc. I didn't think I'd like them before the game came out, but after putting about 20 hours into it, I accepted it and it's not bad at all.

    Gameplay: This is where the game takes its first hit. Its not particularly fun to drive in this. You'll get small hints of "fun" driving here and there, but it just doesn't feel right. Almost like they took the driving physics and mechanics from NFS HEAT and tweaked them to try and copy a popular mod called UNITE. Drifting doesn't feel good at all. It seems like the car slows almost to a halt when using B,A,A+, or even S rank cars. S+ cars seem to be able to fully power through the drift properly, however S+ rank races are horribly not fun at any difficulty setting in the game since the NPCs almost feel scripted. Using a level 3 boost and a full shot of nitrous, and the NPC and/or Cop will stay right next to you the whole time. Its almost like they took the rubber banding cops from HEAT and used that system for the racers in this. Its just not fun. While we're on the subject of the cops, they spawn in just as badly as they did in Cyberpunk 2077 when it first came out. They also always know where you are, and as a test I sat with my car off in between a wall and a gas station for 30 minutes at heat level 5. The game would just spawn cops over and over and over again as they drove around the gas station in a circle. No way to leave your hiding spot without getting picked up by one of them. The Police helicopters almost felt magnetized to your car. Hiding under a overpass on cooldown, they would just circle the overpass. Not to mention if there's a cop within a mile of you when you finish a race, you have to do an annoying after race escape, which is just there to waste your time. Just like car customization. It's come a long way, but overall its the same body kits from the last 3 games. The same exhausts. The same hoods. Nothing new here, all reused assets. A select few cars have more, but not much. Car list is fine, even though there's not a single Toyota, or anything even remotely fun from the 2000s era of motorsports. No Supra? Really? All in all, it wasn't that great an experience for how much time was supposedly put into this game.

    Music: Its a 5/10, cause I only really liked (and I use the word like loosely) about 50% of the music. Others will have they're own opinion. Take this one as a evened out score.

    Sound effects: Man the cars sound great in this. Someone put a lot of time into sound design for this game, and it shows. Kudo's to them.

    Story: I'll start with this one tidbit. There's only one character that's good in this game, and that is Rydell. Every other character was either shallow, annoying, or trying to push a social agenda. What happened to the days when a character in the game that you raced against was just "Darren and he drives a Miata"? The best part about these games is figuring out their personality from the looks of their car, how they look as a character. I don't need backstories for super shallow characters. The main villain of the game is... a good person... who screwed you over.. and that's okay? There's no "Boss" races to be seen anywhere.. Everyone likes each other and there's no beef with anyone. Straight boring. Rydell is literally the only character in the game that has any depth to him, and that makes him feel more like a real person. The weekly system that's in the game, with both day and night cycles, makes the game feel like its on rails. You don't actually have a choice on what you want to do, you just do what the game tells you to do. I realize all the NFS games are like that, but this one makes you feel like your on a set track and there's nothing you can do about it.

    So in the end, did I have a good time playing it? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Sure. Is it the best NFS game? Not even close. Would I replay it multiple times? No. I'll play it twice through to make sure I didn't miss anything, and maybe later down the road if they add DLC or something along those lines, but there's no way I can suffer myself to play this story multiple times for fun.     Likely my favourite game in the series.
    The story follows a classic NFS formula, the characters have some interesting background to them, it can provide a good challenge, both grip and drift handling seem to be well balanced, and of course the visual effects, love them or hate them, they sure give the game character.

I was also hoping A$AP Rocky would be a bit more included with the story, maybe another cut-scene once you race him or so wouldn't hurt.
    As for online, hard to say much on these early days. The separate progression system is a nice addition however time and involvement from players will tell if that was a good call. With player count per server only being 16, it can be difficult to fill up a lobby of people willing to play through a playlist. Here's hope for good post launch support because there is definitely more potential left in it.    … Expand

    Game offers thrilling racing, hot chases and Bursts of emotions every time you hit the gas. Great racing game with slow progression, tons of fun and personality. Only complaint a few systems are lacking, such as photomode and a bit in multiplayer pvp matchmaking but it's can be improved in no time. Best NFS for past 10 years

    Need for Speed was seriously starting to look dead and buried – and here comes the rescue party! The combination of beautiful, realistic-looking graphics and effects borrowed straight from an anime works surprisingly well, the story doesn’t get in your way and the driving model hits exactly the right spot. Even the open world is fun! This is how you make an arcade racing game.

    Need for Speed Unbound is the best modern NFS to date. It is still riddled with issues like rubberbanding and weird drifting physics, but it still provides its players with the best handling system in years, with grip racing finally back. With the best visual design NFS has ever had and some interesting campaign decisions, it gives hope that the series is back on track to becoming something great.
