Monster Hunter: Wilds represents the natural evolution of the franchise, introducing a series of improvements and, above all, quality-of-life features that make it more accessible to all kinds of players. It's a title that notably changes the traditional structure of separate missions and hunting zones, opting instead for an open world featuring distinct ecosystems and areas filled with a vast number of monsters to hunt. These enhancements don't stray far from the series' original formula, although they do make playing Monster Hunter somewhat easier and less frustrating.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a new chapter that redefines the concept of hunting. Undoubtedly one of the GOTY contenders for 2025, it represents the culmination of years of evolution in the series, blending tradition and innovation in a vast, dynamic, and unpredictable world. The new mechanics, attention to environmental details, and diverse creatures promise a deep and rewarding experience for both veteran hunters and newcomers. This title has the potential to redefine the genre and set new standards for the franchise. The wait was long, but absolutely worth it.

You could pick Wilds up as a newcomer and have a tremendous time playing through the story. You could stop there and it would still be worth the price of admission. But I will be playing it for a LONG time yet.

After 100 hours of gameplay and reaching Hunter Rank 110, I can confidently say that Monster Hunter Wilds is a better game than World and Rise. Largely focusing on streamlining and making the overall experience more accessible, without removing the core principles that veteran hunters have come to know and love, Monster Hunter Wilds is a game that should be experienced by everyone. While the main story isn't anything to write home about, it's still an enjoyable one and a great way to get prepared for the real game — High Rank. 2025 is packed with current and upcoming games that are already looking to be GOTY contenders, and even though most of them aren't released yet, I just feel it in my bones that Monster Hunter Wilds will be getting at least a nomination to take home the grand prize.

I am already 50 hours in, and I can’t wait to double - triple, quadruple! - that number in the coming weeks and months. This one’s a classic, as far as I'm concerned.

Capcom has done it again, taken a series and taken it to the next level without compromising its essence. The simplification of various processes and the introduction of new concepts that streamline the experience in an open design at 60fps make every hunt more exciting.

Monster Hunter Wilds is fantastic. It looks beautiful, the worlds and characters all make it vibrant and immersive, and hunting is just as fun as always. There’s so much to do in its base game alone that it’s easy to get lost in. But don’t fret, players can do as little or as much as they need to. If you want to build the easy stuff and just go hunt, feel free. You want to explore all food options, squad up with varying skills and weapons, that’s there for you too. There’s no wrong way to play, but however you do, it’ll be absolutely worth investing your time.

Not only does Monster Hunter Wilds introduce meaningful new mechanics and features that improve the already stellar core gameplay, it presents players with an assortment of new and interesting monsters to do battle against. And thanks to its changeable environments, it feels more dynamic than ever. Without a doubt, this is the best entry in the series yet, and an early contender for 2025's Game of the Year.

Impressive and gigantic, Monster Hunter Wilds is the perfect culmination of feedback from World and Rise. The vast amount of content feels almost small compared to the narrative focus, cinematic approach, epic battles, and a scale so grand it makes previous games seem nearly insignificant. A must-play for veterans and the best possible entry point for anyone looking to dive into the series.

Monster Hunter Wilds is more proof that Monster Hunter is one of CAPCOM's biggest franchises. Despite its sheer size, both in popularity and legacy, CAPCOM aren't afraid to jump head-first into new ideas. Wilds is a different kind of Monster Hunter that feels like a natural evolution of the formula. I have no doubts it'll go down as one of the best games in the series, and of 2025.

Endlessly ambitious and full of detail, Monster Hunter: Wilds manages to deliver on everything that it sets out to do and then some. I have complete faith in Capcom to keep building off of this launch as one of their strongest foundations yet. Putting the game down genuinely seems like an impossibility with just how much there is to do. The wait has been long and tense, but Capcom haven't missed the mark with their latest and arguably, greatest.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the best game in the series. While some fans may debate this, it's undeniable that the developers have created an experience that is accessible and retains the essence of the franchise. Its story, to the surprise of many, is captivating, and it's more than just an excuse to go out and hunt monsters, as it presents us with a specific journey with well-defined characters. Each encounter has a great weight in this adventure and you never feel like you're wasting your time. The progression is fantastic, and it's something I hope will be a constant in the future.

Although it’s possible that Monster Hunter Wilds could put off some veterans who started early with the series, it’s made a massive jump in progress towards being a more well-rounded game that is inviting to a much broader audience. In terms of visuals, it’s the best the series has to offer and the seamless world makes the environments come to life like never before. Add on the improved combat and mount controls and it’s a game you won’t be able to put down once you start.

Once again, Capcom proves that the monster-hunting formula has no limits; it can constantly evolve and grow. Monster Hunter Wilds is a vast and majestic game, much like the monsters that inhabit it. The new approach to exploration and the complexity of the various biomes evolve the classic formula of the series, enriching it immensely. Combat takes significant strides forward thanks to the wound system, the Seikret, and the revamped weapons—further enhanced by monsters with more complex behaviors and a greater overall environmental interaction. Some hunts will stay with you forever. The story is also a pleasant surprise—we didn’t expect it to be told so well, aided by a cast of well-developed characters. If we had to point out a flaw, we would have liked more from the endgame phases and the roster of monsters, but we are well aware that with future updates and the almost certain introduction of Master Rank, these issues will likely be addressed. Capcom completes yet another hunt—and does so in truly grand style.

With the legacy of Monster Hunter: World still fresh in players’ minds, it’s easy to envision Wilds making a similar global impact, captivating millions across platforms with its scale, ambition, and polish. The vast and detailed world of Monster Hunter Wilds is spectacular. Although I have some minor complaints, Capcom has managed to expand the game's scale while also making it easier to play, which is quite an achievement. The Focus Mode mechanic that allows players to target their prey's weak points is another welcome improvement. Although the story becomes a little frustrating towards the end, Wilds is carefully crafted to allow you to concentrate on the narrative and enjoy it.

Some dodgy UI and inventory management aside it’s a well-made title that packs a lot of content, and spares no time in getting you stuck right into the action. The open-worlds feel like the perfect arenas to slay an near-endless number of monsters, and there’s more than enough to do in between the hunts to keep you occupied and feeling like you’re progressing and improving as a hunter.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a truly extraordinary game and a masterpiece of presentation. With its compelling monster designs, riveting fights, and amazingly lush world, it’s bound to thrill and fill players with intrigue and wonder as they smoothly and effortlessly traverse beautifully crafted environments on their Seikret mount. The environmental systems and interactions between monsters are truly something to behold, and even though their integration leaves more to be desired, the rest of the package soars tremendously high in every other element for what ultimately amounts to a monstrously mouthwatering RPG.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a fantastic new entry into the franchise. For the most part, I feel like every new feature feels good and works well, and the monsters are certainly a delight to fight. The only things that might hold it back slightly are some performance issues, but even those don't get in the way of the core fun of smashing monsters, looting gear, and repeating. Fans of the franchise should have a fantastic time with this latest entry, and I hope it becomes a blueprint for future games in the franchise.

Monster Hunter Wilds marks the beginning of a new era for Capcom's hunting game, offering a very rich catalog of new features and additions that more than worthily open the race towards the final goal of post-launch support: offering the audience the best Monster Hunter ever. Although the structure of the proposal, full of improvements and strong of an extraordinary internal coherence, marks a remarkable change of pace for the saga, more promising than it is possible to express in the context of a review, the technical defects and the content gaps of the proposal do not allow us to attribute to the game a rating fully in line with its potential. In the same way we absolutely cannot fall below the threshold of excellence, especially considering the solidity of the foundations laid by Capcom at the head of the path in progress of its latest hunting adventure, truly transformative for what concerns the profile of the saga.

In case you haven't figured it out, Monster Hunter Wilds is a masterclass. The worthy successor to World and Iceborne and its success is already assured. We are also already promised free updates, a first monster has been confirmed for spring 2025, a tab for event quests is already waiting for players and we know that collaborations will take place. Clearly, Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the rare games that already manages to make us love what's coming, without even knowing what we're going to have to deal with. Extremely generous from start to finish, it improves and modernizes a recipe that has already proven itself and won over millions of players. Fans can go there with their eyes closed, while newbies have here a perfect gateway to get a foot in the door of the license. A fantastic world awaits you, dozens of hours of hunting alone or in cooperation, but above all an incredible and spectacular experience. Definitely one of the best games of 2025, even if it's just beginning.

Monster Hunter Wilds continues the momentum of Monster Hunter World to offer a more open and fluid experience than ever. Thanks to its vast expansive areas, we have even more the feeling of evolving in credible and living ecosystems to enjoy its original bestiary. Besides that, Monster Hunter Wilds improves the well-oiled gameplay of the series by adding new movements for each of the 14 weapons and especially the focus mode which really changes the way of approaching hunting. And if we can salute the care given to the rather nice story, we can still regret that this new episode does not better accompany new players to discover the codes of the saga, once again. Despite this, one thing is certain, it has never been as pleasant to get into Monster Hunter as it is today.

Few games can match the satisfaction of Monster Hunter — and Monster Hunter Wilds might just be the most satisfying instalment yet. Capcom has fine tuned the act of felling colossal foes, creating one of the most rewarding games of the generation in the process. While the overall package is held back by a stalling story campaign and questionable performance, Wilds is an outstanding action RPG at its core, and a worthy successor to the almighty World.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an incredible game for old fans or new monster hunters. Monster Hunter Wilds delivers a highly fun experience. Unique monster designs with jaw-dropping behaviors and reactions to the environment, excellent art direction, and a fantastic soundtrack. The good old hunting mechanics to craft weapons and armor remain the most addictive element of the game, but there are caveats in the texture of the game and elements such as the menus, which could be more intuitive.

Seven years after the global phenomenon that was Monster Hunter World in 2018, Capcom finally delivers its sequel, not in its numbering that's for sure, but the spirit, it's definitely there! It's simple, Monster Hunter Wilds takes all the ingredients of the winning formula of its illustrious predecessor, while making it evolve in the right direction. The story and narration now take a more important part, with just the right amount of endearing characters, intrigue and outcome to let us be transported into this campaign that ends in about twenty hours of play. Then, Capcom gives players free rein to do what they want through an even more consistent and interesting endgame, since it knows how to renew the experience and extend the lifespan almost infinitely, especially with the DLC and other expansions to come. Between the appearance of other monsters, the climate changes that are taking place, the end of the decline and the arrival of abundance, the game then offers itself a second youth.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a bold and bustling continuation of its predecessor’s approach to streamlining the once-niche series. By stripping away some of the more frustrating elements of the past, and focusing on getting players into hunts as quickly as possible, Monster Hunter Wilds has the potential to launch the series to new heights. Aside from some head-scratching omissions, Monster Hunter Wilds is a collection of the greatest hits from past games, one that finally delivers on the promise of a truly vibrant and living open world.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the best Monster Hunter game we’ve ever had. The best storyline, the best visuals, and changes to the combat that revolutionise the way the game plays. Capcom took what they learned from years of Monster Hunter and improved upon it in Wilds. The combat feels great, the world is alive and there's lots of fashion to boot. Another great return for one of Capcom's most successful franchises. Several important changes have been made, though not all hit the mark, such as the ease of finding monsters, which diminishes the hunting aspect. Additionally, the game engine sometimes struggles to keep up with the open-world design. Nevertheless, the thrill of battle remains, the world of Wilds is beautiful, and the excellent combat system is among the best we've seen.

Apart from too much focus on the story and a few hick-ups, Monster Hunter Wilds is offering exactly what one could wish from a new game in the series: Spectacular monsters, amazing fights and the feeling to fight for your life with real creatures.

The most recent installment in the Monster Hunter series is the best way to start experiencing thrilling hunts, deep combat mechanics, and a rewarding gameplay loop. It is the friendliest installment to newcomers and a must-play for veterans of the series – if they manage their expectations. I have no doubt that Wilds refines and enhances the existing Monster Hunter experience rather than redefining it. At the end of the day, those who embrace the franchise’s signature challenge and depth will find that this game stands as another solid and satisfying entry in the franchise, even if some mechanics may need some time to get used to.

Monster Hunter Wilds delivers a ton of incredible new content, buried underneath the usual UI nightmare plus a long, interminable campaign. The new features of the game are fun and exciting once the game opens up, and there are a ton of awesome new monsters to battle. The graphics, as always, are stunning. But wading through the mud of this story for 15-20 hours is downright painful, and the franchise's tradition of not explaining itself is getting extremely old. There is a fabulous Monster Hunter game here, but sooner or later this franchise is going to have to wake up to the need to wipe the slate clean and open the doors for new players. Instead, Monster Hunter Wilds feels like it is going in the other direction.

It’s always fun to hunt a giant monster with your over the top weapons and Monster Hunter Wilds delivers that epic feeling most of the time (except for the low difficulty). It courageously aims for the high bar that MH World has been set up but can’t reach there. Yet.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the result of a well-thought-out evolution of the series. Every new idea and all the changes - although not revolutionary - turned out to be a jackpot. And although Capcom still struggles with a few familiar flaws, it's simply hard to tear yourself away from this game.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a no-brainer for dedicated fans of the the series, but it may also appeal to fans of... hack'n'slash games, provided they can ditch the isometric view, battles with dozens of enemies and dark fantasy atmosphere in favour of epic duels and a full-on Japanese feel.

The foundation of Monster Hunter Wilds is rock solid. The game is smoother and more streamlined than ever. It’s also more beautiful and spectacular than any of its predecessors. On top of that, it’s incredibly accessible for new players. However, at least in its current state, it offers little resistance, meaning you’ll breeze through it – especially as a Monster Hunter veteran.

Monster Hunter Wilds is unquestionably the best game in the series for a new player. The gameplay is simpler to get to grips with, yet richer than ever. All the weapons have their charm, the new monsters are interesting and vast regions to explore await you. There's even a semblance of a story, clumsy though it may be. Unfortunately, we're left wanting more, as the current content is far from sufficient for players of previous titles. There's little doubt, however, that Capcom will remedy this situation with future updates.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a wild attempt to attract a new audience to the series. Capcom is diving headlong into a broader, but also flatter market, with a game that is as incredibly polished in terms of gameplay as it is uneven in terms of applying its new ideas, which may disappoint the most veteran fans.

Capcom seems to be going a bit too far in its obsession with attracting new players with Monster Hunter Wilds, but fortunately it recovers enough in high rank to still leave with a positive feeling. The story is the biggest blemish on an otherwise fairly familiar experience - although it is a lot less hardcore than before.

Monster Hunter Wilds has good foundations, but lacks proper endgame content and challenge.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a worthy follow-up to Capcom's most successful game ever. The revamped gameplay is the best Monster Hunter has ever been, especially with additions like the Focus Mode. Beyond performance issues, Capcom went above and beyond in creating a game I find myself unable to stop playing. With a legitimate story mode and numerous tweaks, there has never been a better time to jump into Monster Hunter for the very first time.

With Wilds there’s a concerted effort to make the Monster Hunter series more accessible to a mainstream audience. It’s weird and wonderful.

I never want to be the “it just gets good later” kind of guy, but in this case it really is true — for a good monster hunting experience, it doesn’t heat up until 15 hours in.

It feels way too premature to even try to assess Monster Hunter: Wilds as a full package. The game will evolve, the game will be much bigger, and probably much better than it is right now. But even as it stands, Wilds is a delightfully fun. There's nothing better than the feeling of a successful hunt with your palico companion, and Wilds can give you plenty of that.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a fantastic time through and through. It might not hit the right balance for all players due to the move to being more story-focused with pacing and things, but for those who like it, there is a ton of fun to be had here. A successful and innovative way to change up the typical Monster Hunter formula and a great stepping stone to finding the perfect balance. A heartily recommended action title where the monsters are the real stars of the show!

My main gripe is that Monster Hunter Wilds plays too similarly to previous entries but there's still a lot to love including its thrilling hunts against creative monsters, weapon and build diversity, and, of course, the chance to pet Poogie.

More than anything, Wilds feels like an experience, a grand journey filled with a shockingly emotional story, bombastic hunts, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous vistas. It’s an adventure that tries, and mostly succeeds, in making sure that you’re having fun at all times.

A great game that would have been almost perfect if Capcom had gouged out the first thirty hours and put a plug in the pernicious verbal diarrhoea of a quest board masquerading as an NPC.

Monster Hunter is back and manages to impress with its sophisticated gameplay, new and old monsters, implementation of Focus Strikes and good sound. The package also has plenty to offer in game hours, giving you a long run with or without friends. In that respect, exactly what you expect from Monster Hunter, but know that the performance is underwhelming and the interface could have been a lot more intuitive.

Monster Hunter Wilds capitalises on everything that made World the worthy hit that catapulted the series to worldwide success, with some welcome adjustments. It doesn’t have a story that’s worth writing home about but it’s a fun game filled with player expression and explosive gameplay moments that’ll make for exciting stories and memories later on.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a fresh start for the franchise, even as it channels a respectable chunk of Monster Hunter World. The endgame could use a lot more, but it's still a top-tier action RPG with some incredible moments.

This action RPG delivers intense combat and an expansive world, offering engaging monster-hunting experiences with a variety of strategies. However, its repetitive quests and steep learning curve may deter casual players, making it a game better suited for fans of the genre who appreciate a challenge.

While it may be a step down from its predecessor, Monster Hunter Wilds is still a great game with significant quality-of-life improvements, many of which shake up the formula for the better. But Capcom went a little too far in its effort to make the game more accessible to the masses, to the point where it risks alienating its most hardcore fans. Even so, what's here is a meaty experience that scratches that Monster Hunter itch, as long as you don't rely too much on the SOS flare support hunters.

Once it gets its claws in, it’s hard to escape Monster Hunter Wilds’ grasp. It balances high-octane spectacle with the kind of meditative RPG progression hooks that live service games dream of. It’s a successful evolution from Monster Hunter World, though one that still can’t quite find the best way to introduce new players to its intimidating world.

Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the traditionally rough edges of the series in smart ways, reducing as much friction as possible that could get in the way of you grabbing any of its exceptionally fun weapons and planting them firmly in a monster’s hide. But in that quest to make Monster Hunter more approachable, Wilds has carved a little too close to the bone in some places, trimming its challenge back so much that I barely needed to dig into its in-depth equipment system at all this time to become an apex predator. Its more flexible combat is some of the most fun I’ve had with the series, but like the blustering lighting storms of its gorgeous desert, it'll burns brightly but briefly until Capcom unleashes some real endgame beasts to challenge us.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a giant stomp towards a bigger and brighter future for the beast-slaying series. Despite the sluggish pace of its story and a few muddy textures on base PS5, it's clear Capcom hasn’t bitten off more than it can chew. Wilds is a triumphant culmination of mechanics, monsters, and ideas that have been masterfully forged from 21 years of collective knowledge and experience. The result is nothing short of a carefully honed blade that manages to slice its own path and stand proudly amongst Monster Hunter greats. If Monster Hunter World was the appetizer, then Wilds is the full-blown main course. Now, if you don’t mind, I have a date with Rathalos and a new Great Sword to make.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a good new addition to this long-running series. It takes some bold steps, and although not all of them are moving it in the right direction, the overall experience was still satisfactory. Monster Hunter keeps evolving as a series, and Capcom proves once again that they are the best in this genre they created over 20 years ago.

In many ways, Monster Hunter Wilds feels like a soft series reboot - it certainly makes enough changes to the core gameplay to qualify. In doing so, it creates a beautiful, immersive world, full of detailed creature designs and death-defying feats of battle. It's a world that's easy to get lost in, although it's hindered by performance issues and a story that plays out like a 15-hour tutorial.

If you're a fan of the series, you've probably already placed a pre-order, and if not, you should know that Monster Hunter: Wilds is definitely worth playing. However, I think that if you're just starting out with Monster Hunter, World will be a great introduction, and by the time you finish it, Capcom will probably have sorted out most of Wilds' technical issues, and maybe even dropped the price a bit from the launch version.

The problem when reviewing a game of this scale, part of a series with more than ten entries, is that personal attachment and nostalgia inevitably play a crucial role. It’s clear that the franchise no longer offers the same experience as it did years ago. The rough, unwelcoming, and flamboyant feel of the past has given way to unwavering accessibility, a clear pursuit of simplicity, and a deliberate openness to newcomers. While the game’s addictive foundations are still present, they are nonetheless hindered by an at times excessive simplification of its mechanics. However, Monster Hunter Wilds remains a thrilling experience, even for veterans—provided they accept that it is no longer the game they once knew.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a fun experience and has all the staples that make the series so enjoyable. Unfortunately, some choices make it hard to enjoy yourself for a significant amount of time while making your way to the portion of the game that you’re trying to experience.

Monster Hunter Wilds is at its most beautiful and chaotic when all the elements and residents of its dynamic world accidentally collide; multiple monsters locked in a turf war as smaller creatures scurry around, some trying to escape, others following their pack leader into the action, all while hunters set exploding traps and raging storms pass through before eventually breaking into daylight. I wish all of this were integrated into the harder, better, stronger, faster logic at the heart of the game’s RPG progression in more sophisticated ways, but that liveliness does inject more life and zeal into a very familiar pattern, one that still works and now feels more robust than ever.

Don’t get me wrong: As a long-time player of the franchise who’s already put 70 hours in for this review, I’m firmly in the grip of the addiction. I’ll be playing this thing for at least another month or two, getting every ounce of meat off its bone as I perfect my weapon sets and maximize my fit. (I’ll leave more in-depth sartorial analysis to the fashionistas, but the armor looks are generally strong, if not as out-there as some of World‘s outfits.) But I can’t help but feel a little dissatisfied at how easily Wilds has set me up for the binge. Many of its changes to long-standing franchise tradition are initially, and genuinely, thrilling: The first two dozen times you land a wound strike, it feels great. But the worst thing I can say about these changes is that, taken as an aggregate, they serve to rob the monsters of some of the glory that the game’s art designers have done such amazing work to re-instill in them: Transforming gorgeous creatures into a rote series of hitboxes and weak points for easy disassembly. The best Monster Hunter games have taken the “hunter” side of that titular equation seriously. Monster Hunter: Wilds, by contrast, is more like an extremely slick action game than a celebration of the hunt. Its storytelling has taken an undeniable step forward, but its play—where this franchise has always lived or died—has lost some of that all-important spirit.

Even in its first real competition with 2023’s Wild Hearts, which infused monster hunting with Fortnite-like building, Wilds shows that there’s still nothing quite like the thrill of a hunt in MonHun. They can be exhausting and challenging and, at times, frustrating; my thumb remains sore from all of the rolling and dodging I’ve done over the past week. But it’s also immensely satisfying to actually pull off taking down one of its massive beasts, a combined sense of relief and joy that few other experiences can replicate. Wilds doesn’t change any of that — it makes it feel even bigger.
