Fashionably late to my review because this sat here in my backlog for ages. If I were giving this review a TLDR Headline it would be: "Should have been a DLC for the base game." If I were giving this review a TLDR Headline it would be: "Should have been a DLC for the base game." I started playing the game late Thursday night, played 2 hours, picked it up again Friday morning, and had the game completely finished with 100% completion (according to the map indicator) by mid-Friday afternoon. 10.5 hours total time. That's how short the game is. Of that time, a good third of it was spent chasing down collectibles. Take the collectible padding out of it and this game is a 5-6 hour campaign, including the side-quests and neighborhood crimes. All I have left is to do a new game+ to clean up trophies, which I'm not feeling particularly motivated to do. Speaking of new game+, it's clear the devs knew this game's length was going to be a problem which is why they locked the final upgrade of every skill and gadget behind a new game+ playthrough.

The game's length would be fine if the campaign had any decently memorable villains or characters like the first game. But it doesn't. The entire story is cliché, ham-handed, and filled to the brim with current event virtue signaling. And because the game is so short, there's no time to build up any suspense meaning key plot points are easily telegraphed long before they occur.

Swinging through New York is as fun as ever, but combat is beginning to feel stale even with the inclusion of the new bioelectric Venom powers. The problem with the Venom powers is that the developers then leaned on this new mechanic as a crutch and made damn near every enemy group have multiple types who could only be damaged by Venom -- or an enemy type that could prevent you from using Venom. It became very tedious quickly and was apparent that this was being used as a way to artificially enhance the game's difficulty.

I'm very glad I bought this on discount later because had I paid the original full retail price, I would have felt very ripped off.

Having spent the past twelve months training with Peter Parker, Miles Morales is beginning to master his new found abilities. So, when Peter heads off on holiday, he’s left to take care of New York City alone.

Originally planned as an expansion to Insomniac Games well received Spider-Man title, Miles Morales was eventually developed into a stand alone game, and as such it is relatively short (the story will take about 8 hours). Since it was released at a budget price, this isn’t really an issue however, and it certainly prevents the game from outstaying its welcome and keeps the story moving along at a good pace.

In terms of gameplay Miles Morales is certainly at its best when you’re webbing your way around the city fighting bad guys, and while there are few too many missions that involve dull ‘puzzles’, the developers have thankfully decided to keep the focus primarily on combat. The overwhelming number of (often repetitive) side-missions that these open world games seem to be obliged to include these days do offer a good few hours of additional gameplay for those that want it although, aside from a couple of more story based side-missions, I largely just ignored these personally.

Overall then, Miles-Morales hardly reinvents the open world genre, but it looks great on PS5 and does what it does very well.

Fun game with very good technical development. The only let down part its that iS REALLY SHORT. I've completed 71% of the game in 6-7 hours doing a few side missions...so like a 10h story...with WAY TOO similar main missions...doesnt deserves a better grade. 7/10 bc is fun and beautiful.

+- Pretty much the same deal as the main game.
+ Side content slightly less copy and paste
    - The game is pretty buggy, but not to the point of ruining the game..
    - Oddly the developer used the game to show their support for a violent hate group.

Spider-Man Miles Morales is a good game. Short and sweet, while not being a major improvement over its previous entry.

One thing that I want to get out of the way first: The graphics are gorgeous! The first Spider-Man game, on base PS4, already looked amazing, but this is definitely the most significant improvement over the original. And not only it looks good, it also plays great!

The first Spider-Man game, on base PS4, already looked amazing, but this is definitely the most significant improvement over the original.
And not only it looks good, it also plays great! Swinging around the city is still a joy, the fast-paced combat system continues to excel expectations and unlockables like new suits, gadgets and skills feel very rewarding.

The story is also great. While not as involving as the original game, I felt like Miles' story is much more personal, with freedom to take the character into different and more original paths than the ones we've already seen in other Spider-Man media. Great voice performances, exciting action moments and emotional cuts make this game worth picking up.

What hurts this game, in my opinion, is the lack of novelty.
A few things that I did not like in the original are still here. And since this is a much shorter experience, these things just get in the way of a great story being told.
Side quests are still repetitive, but this time they don't add anything cool to flesh out the Spider-Man mythos, like the previous game did with some of them. The lack of enemy variety is sad and in harder difficulties, they still take forever to die.
And the worst thing in the entire game: THE PUZZLES!
They get old quick. Basically, they turn Miles Morales into a walking "generator energy". It's absurd!

This game is very short, so buying it at full price might not be the best idea, but if/when you do pick it up, you'll definitely have a great time, whether you're a Spider-Man fan or just a sucker for good Action Adventure games.
Now, if you've played the old one, you'll probably reach the credits with the taste of an overglorified DLC, in your mouth...

Well, the developers repeated almost all the sins of the previous part (unnecessary filler content, gathering, repetitive side quests, etc.), while creating a game with a smaller and less interesting plot.
Yes, there are good innovations, in some places the game pleases and surprises, but in general it leaves an impression of good, but not outstanding. A kind of successful, great DLC, but

The story starts very slowly, which is problematic given the really short campaign time. The story about the underground and Krieger and his company didn't really grab me. It was a nice bonus, but nothing really knocks me out here. But towards the end it got better and better, so that when the credits went down I thought, now that it's going to be good, it's done. Too bad.

    Graphics/Presentation

In places bombastic and very pretty to look at, especially the reflections and effects associated with the electricity. There were also WOW effects, the characters looked good and you could see different costumes and so on. There wasn't much room for improvement here compared to the part before.

    gameplay

The new elements that come into play with Miles make the combo gameplay even more powerful and dynamic. It runs buttery smooth and is one of the great strengths of the part. Unfortunately, the excellent combat is paired with relatively lifeless combat areas. It's actually always the same principle: closed area where you have to eliminate a certain number of enemies. This is lined up several times and then the mission is complete. But it was nice that you had different tools available to eliminate the opponents, although not very many new things have been added here.

Luckily there wasn't a lot of stealth, but a little more variety wouldn't have hurt, especially in the boss fights there could have been more. The fights that were there were staged very strongly and were a lot of fun. I tried and played through all the different activities and challenges, but it was just too much copy and paste from the other Spiderman for me. I didn't really like these side quests there.

Otherwise you get more of Spiderman here.

    Conclusion

If you liked Spiderman, you can't go wrong with Miles Morales. You basically get the same thing here with a different character and a few more weaknesses. In particular, the game unfortunately fell short of the campaign. Overall 7/10 spiders.

At first, I decided to check this game out just to see what my PS5 can do and I heard that this game looks good - this is an understatement - the game looks gorgeous! I played with the middle graphics mode, where the game is running in 60 fps but doesn't have all the shinies on. It looked amazing (like the spiderman, heh) I just found myself checking out the streets and buildings and side-tracking from my missions a lot.

Gameplay is fun, fast and clean. Nothing bad to say here. Again, as not so big superhero kinda guy I still had a lot of fun swinging webs and kicking ass.

The only reason why this game is a 7 in my book is because I finished the main story in 6h 30min. Which is okay I guess - the game is kinda spin-off of the OG Spiderman game and I didn't expect it to be very long. Plus there are tons of side stuff to do and have hours and hours of more fun. If you finish the game, you can free roam and do side-quests. I just was left with the feeling that the story could have been little bit more.

Amazing game, pick it up - lots of fun to be had. Maybe try not to pay the full retail price.
