If I were giving this review a TLDR Headline it would be: "Should have been a DLC for the base game." I started playing the game late Thursday night, played 2 hours, picked it up again Friday morning, and had the game completely finished with 100% completion (according to the map indicator) by mid-Friday afternoon. 10.5 hours total time. That's how short the game is. Of that time, a good third of it was spent chasing down collectibles. Take the collectible padding out of it and this game is a 5-6 hour campaign, including the side-quests and neighborhood crimes. All I have left is to do a new game+ to clean up trophies, which I'm not feeling particularly motivated to do. Speaking of new game+, it's clear the devs knew this game's length was going to be a problem which is why they locked the final upgrade of every skill and gadget behind a new game+ playthrough.

The game's length would be fine if the campaign had any decently memorable villains or characters like the first game. But it doesn't. The entire story is cliché, ham-handed, and filled to the brim with current event virtue signaling. And because the game is so short, there's no time to build up any suspense meaning key plot points are easily telegraphed long before they occur.

Swinging through New York is as fun as ever, but combat is beginning to feel stale even with the inclusion of the new bioelectric Venom powers. The problem with the Venom powers is that the developers then leaned on this new mechanic as a crutch and made damn near every enemy group have multiple types who could only be damaged by Venom -- or an enemy type that could prevent you from using Venom. It became very tedious quickly and was apparent that this was being used as a way to artificially enhance the game's difficulty.

I'm very glad I bought this on discount later because had I paid the original full retail price, I would have felt very ripped off.

Having spent the past twelve months training with Peter Parker, Miles Morales is beginning to master his new found abilities. So, when Peter heads off on holiday, he’s left to take care of New York City alone.

Originally planned as an expansion to Insomniac Games well received Spider-Man title, Miles Morales was eventually developed into a stand alone game, and as such it is relatively short (the story will take about 8 hours). Since it was released at a budget price, this isn’t really an issue however, and it certainly prevents the game from outstaying its welcome and keeps the story moving along at a good pace.

In terms of gameplay Miles Morales is certainly at its best when you’re webbing your way around the city fighting bad guys, and while there are few too many missions that involve dull ‘puzzles’, the developers have thankfully decided to keep the focus primarily on combat. The overwhelming number of (often repetitive) side-missions that these open world games seem to be obliged to include these days do offer a good few hours of additional gameplay for those that want it although, aside from a couple of more story based side-missions, I largely just ignored these personally.

Overall then, Miles-Morales hardly reinvents the open world genre, but it looks great on PS5 and does what it does very well.

+- Pretty much the same deal as the main game.
+ Side content slightly less copy and paste
    - The game is pretty buggy, but not to the point of ruining the game..
    - Oddly the developer used the game to show their support for a violent hate group.

Spider-Man Miles Morales is a good game. Short and sweet, while not being a major improvement over its previous entry.

One thing that I want to get out of the way first: The graphics are gorgeous! The first Spider-Man game, on base PS4, already looked amazing, but this is definitely the most significant improvement over the original. And not only it looks good, it also plays great!

The first Spider-Man game, on base PS4, already looked amazing, but this is definitely the most significant improvement over the original.
And not only it looks good, it also plays great! Swinging around the city is still a joy, the fast-paced combat system continues to excel expectations and unlockables like new suits, gadgets and skills feel very rewarding.

The story is also great. While not as involving as the original game, I felt like Miles' story is much more personal, with freedom to take the character into different and more original paths than the ones we've already seen in other Spider-Man media. Great voice performances, exciting action moments and emotional cuts make this game worth picking up.

What hurts this game, in my opinion, is the lack of novelty.
A few things that I did not like in the original are still here. And since this is a much shorter experience, these things just get in the way of a great story being told.
Side quests are still repetitive, but this time they don't add anything cool to flesh out the Spider-Man mythos, like the previous game did with some of them. The lack of enemy variety is sad and in harder difficulties, they still take forever to die.
And the worst thing in the entire game: THE PUZZLES!
They get old quick. Basically, they turn Miles Morales into a walking "generator energy". It's absurd!

This game is very short, so buying it at full price might not be the best idea, but if/when you do pick it up, you'll definitely have a great time, whether you're a Spider-Man fan or just a sucker for good Action Adventure games.
Now, if you've played the old one, you'll probably reach the credits with the taste of an overglorified DLC, in your mouth...

Well, the developers repeated almost all the sins of the previous part (unnecessary filler content, gathering, repetitive side quests, etc.), while creating a game with a smaller and less interesting plot.
Yes, there are good innovations, in some places the game pleases and surprises, but in general it leaves an impression of good, but not outstanding. A kind of successful, great DLC, but

The story starts very slowly, which is problematic given the really short campaign time. The story about the underground and Krieger and his company didn't really grab me. It was a nice bonus, but nothing really knocks me out here. But towards the end it got better and better, so that when the credits went down I thought, now that it's going to be good, it's done. Too bad.

    Graphics/Presentation

In places bombastic and very pretty to look at, especially the reflections and effects associated with the electricity. There were also WOW effects, the characters looked good and you could see different costumes and so on. There wasn't much room for improvement here compared to the part before.

    gameplay

The new elements that come into play with Miles make the combo gameplay even more powerful and dynamic. It runs buttery smooth and is one of the great strengths of the part. Unfortunately, the excellent combat is paired with relatively lifeless combat areas. It's actually always the same principle: closed area where you have to eliminate a certain number of enemies. This is lined up several times and then the mission is complete. But it was nice that you had different tools available to eliminate the opponents, although not very many new things have been added here.

Luckily there wasn't a lot of stealth, but a little more variety wouldn't have hurt, especially in the boss fights there could have been more. The fights that were there were staged very strongly and were a lot of fun. I tried and played through all the different activities and challenges, but it was just too much copy and paste from the other Spiderman for me. I didn't really like these side quests there.

Otherwise you get more of Spiderman here.

    Conclusion

If you liked Spiderman, you can't go wrong with Miles Morales. You basically get the same thing here with a different character and a few more weaknesses. In particular, the game unfortunately fell short of the campaign. Overall 7/10 spiders.

At first, I decided to check this game out just to see what my PS5 can do and I heard that this game looks good - this is an understatement - the game looks gorgeous! I played with the middle graphics mode, where the game is running in 60 fps but doesn't have all the shinies on. It looked amazing (like the spiderman, heh) I just found myself checking out the streets and buildings and side-tracking from my missions a lot.

Gameplay is fun, fast and clean. Nothing bad to say here. Again, as not so big superhero kinda guy I still had a lot of fun swinging webs and kicking ass.

The only reason why this game is a 7 in my book is because I finished the main story in 6h 30min. Which is okay I guess - the game is kinda spin-off of the OG Spiderman game and I didn't expect it to be very long. Plus there are tons of side stuff to do and have hours and hours of more fun. If you finish the game, you can free roam and do side-quests. I just was left with the feeling that the story could have been little bit more.

Amazing game, pick it up - lots of fun to be had. Maybe try not to pay the full retail price.

Did not live up to the hype for me. It felt like a generic and cheap story put together just so people don't question Miles being a major part of Spiderman 2 PS5. I feel that if they had spent less time on making it feel like an open world game and instead focused those efforts into giving it a fuller campaign this would have been a real contender for game of the year. For now however its the best Spider-Man game I have ever played. Which is pretty gosh darn good if you ask me.

The new “Venom Powers” are an absolute delight to use as different enemies and situations call for different combinations of these electrified area attacks. The gadgets make the game really easy but they are fun to use and pack a flourish that is a feast for the eyes most of the time. There is a flow to the gameplay sometimes that feels perpetual and ultimately very satisfying.

I would recommend this game to both Spider-Man fans and Action game fans alike.

Spider-man: Miles Morales DLC. They just reskined the 2018 game for a winter theme, threw in some new animations + RT and that's it. Fewer skills, fewer challenges, fewer gadgets ( 4 to be exact...) no suit powers (you have visors instead)...
Stealth surely improved, and I like the tricks you can do while you swing, but that's just not enough.
I played the 2018 Spider-man for the third time before this, and I can't tell how much I still loved it. The story is more complex and not too predictable compared to this.

If you want to buy this, wait for a discount because it's not worth to pay a full price imho.

Also I tried it on PS5 and I didn't really feel like it's using the full potential of the haptic feedback of the controller or anything. Obviously the configuration of the PS5 is more than enough for this game. (nonetheless the game looks good, but just slightly better to it's predecessor.)

Before I actually explain what makes it disappointing, I wanna talk about what I absolutely loved about it. Firstly, the graphics and gameplay are phenomenal and are definitely a step above the 2018 game since the map covered in snow makes the game look so much more different and Mile's new moves including Venom abilities feel so much better to use and something that goes surprisingly unnoticed, the rockets are much more satisfying than the 2018 game with they properly explode. The side quests are about the same in terms of quality to the 2018 game but there's a LOT more here but what helps is that they're all contained instead of having to hope you come across it in the 2018 game allowing you to take care of it at your own pace instead of the game's. Surprisingly, even though Insomniac didn't have to, they actually created brand new animations for the people obsessed with wanting new animations cause trust me when I say they would've called them lazy for using the same animations and called it DLC (which to be fair, it kinda is with how it wasn't a full priced game at launch) but I definitely appreciate it since it actually makes sense for Miles with his new tricks in the air, how he stumbles on the ground when he falls, and even during gameplay. I'm really glad the MJ and Miles stealth missions were cut because those were AWFUL back then and still are now. The soundtrack is surprisingly a step above the 2018 game to the point where I actually listen to it whenever I'm out and about. Finally though, I can definitely see the PS5 benefits with how how it showcases the controllers haptic feedback (which to be clear, makes a MUCH bigger difference than you think). That's sadly all of the positives I have for the game because everything else sadly is not. Like how there are 2 enemy factions and they literally don't fight that much differently leaving much to be desired. The game still has some minor glitches while didn't ruin the game for me personally, baffles me how Insomniac didn't fix them 2 and a half years later. While the short story didn't really bother me (after all, I primarily do everything a game has to offer so it took about 20), what did bother me is that there wasn't a lot of time for good enough character development for some of the characters, and that's easily the worst part about this game for me personally. See, Miles and his companions are given excellent development throughout the game and it's enough for me to want to see Miles succeed, but it's where the villains (except the Prowler) that are the BIGGEST downgrade compared to the 2018 game. The main villain is barely a character but it's really the other villain Miles used to have a bond with who is borderline insufferable and ruins the game with her literal hypocrisy knows no bounds and her "sacrifice" at the end while beautiful, feels unearned. Overall, while I enjoyed my time with Miles Morales, after coming back to play it again, I've come to realize how much of a disappointment it actually was and that's a genuine shame because I could tell whoever made this game are genuine Spider Man fans who worked really hard on this game but that's not enough to make the game great. So while it's not stopping my hype for Spider Man 2, and hell, I actually still recommend this game now that it's so cheap, I ultimately have to open my eyes and realize Playstation isn't always about quality with it's products. For starters, the game is ridiculously too short. It clearly started as either an expansion to the first one that they repackaged as it's own game, or a rushed sequel that was cut way short in order to have a system seller for the PS5. It clearly started as either an expansion to the first one that they repackaged as it's own game, or a rushed sequel that was cut way short in order to have a system seller for the PS5. On top of it being short, the story is also boring and predictable. I don't know if these characters are pulled from the comics, but compared to the first game, they are just....not good. Also, the wokeness is very real and very cringey. The seemingly out of nowhere, and ham-fisted, political scenes made me wonder how all the characters know that this Spider-Man is black. Is it because he wears a black costume? That seems rather racist. My only other criticism, and I know it's just a product of the world we live in now, is that it makes no sense that in a universe where Peter Parker is still alive and a mentor to Miles, that Miles calls himself Spider-Man. The game even seems to be aware of this, because there are numerous clumsy lines of dialogue trying to differentiate which Spider-Man a character is talking about. It would be the equivalent of having a Batman game where after Bruce trains up Dick Grayson, gives him his own bat suit, and then they just both call themselves Batman. It is unnecessarily confusing and stupid.

Before I get into the game's strengths, it's important to point out that I loved the first game. In fact, it's the first and only game I've every platinumed. I played through it multiple times, beat it on the highest difficulty setting, and completed 100% of the DLC. Going into Miles Morales: Spiderman, I was worried that it would be too easy or feel too much like the original. I was wrong on both accounts. This game kicked my butt at first, and it was so much fun to learn all of Miles' new moves and unlock his new gadgets. I still think the fighting hologram gadget is lame, but everything else was a blast. I also really loved the fact that there were no forced stealth sections where you didn't play as Spider-Man or lame mini games that you have to do a dozen times. That alone was the biggest improvement over the first game. Speaking of improvements, this game looks, sounds, and feels way better. It's clear that the developers really loved the first game they made and wanted to make everything feel familiar but better. Also, the load times are amazing. The sad truth is that if you were to take the characters and story of the first game and combine that with everything else from this game, it would probably be the perfect Spider-Man game. If you never played the first one, then the "Ultimate Launch Edition" is an easy recommend, since it comes with the first game remastered. If you've already played the first game and not interested in playing the remaster, than I would not recommend this one at full price. Wait for a sale.

Bello.

    Negatives
    - this is a $70 DLC repackaged as a full game plain and simple. Sony is ripping you off! Is it great? Ya, is it worth an overpriced full game price tag, no. I'd gladly pay $30-40 for this title, but $70?! I hate that Sony raised game prices and is charging $70 for remasters and DLC. But when you are the market leader I guess you can do whatever you want...

-it’s campaign is about 6-8 hours long

    - the final two boss fights are infuriating (this is coming from a souls player).

    - the villain is under developed and undeserving of the sympathy Miles gives.

    - despite the snowy Christmas setting being fun it is just a reskin of the first game's map with a weather system.

-the tasks and new enemies offer almost nothing new or different from the first game, they have the same move sets just with different styles and colors as the demons in the og game.

    - Miles plays the same other than venom (not the goo alien) strikes and invisibility which is basically just used to break out of combat if you mess up a stealth sequence.

-this is nothing more than overpriced dlc that happens to be really good. If it wasn’t sold at $70 new without the original game I’d give it an 8.

    The Bad
The combat is a total Batman Arkham City ripoff. You just spam one button to win against enemies, which makes it boring. This style of combat got boring after my third playthrough of Batman Arkham City, so encountering it here just made me groan.
The characters are boring. Miles Morales sounds incredibly annoying. There is no real emotional connection to anything happening.
Side-missions are just "go to this location, power up the generator, fight the enemy trash mobs" over and over again.

Overall, not the worst game out there. It shows off the power of the PS5 nicely, but I would spend my money elsewhere.

It's a good game, but really nothing different from the original Spiderman. Same side missions, same combat except for the electric powers Miles gets. I believe this could've almost been a DLC. The campaign is really small. Not as satisfying as the Peter Parker version.
It's a shame they didn't spend longer on the story. Feels like they took the "if it's not broken why fix it" attitude too far.

The 7 rating is here mostly for the gameplay and technical aspects of the game. The story is decent but not what it could've been. Very short and a little too simple for my liking. That being said, it is still an absolute blast to play.

More of a Spider-Man DLC for PS5. Great combat and superb storytelling just like the original game, just unfortunate how short the game is. this game is a lot more stylish than the previous spiderman game but still, the combat gets stale really fast.

I loved this version of the original but it lacked in some story beats. The improvement to the game mechanics and swinging are awesome. Great way to introduce Miles.

Gameplay is as fun as in ps4 spiderman but it has a generic plot and lackluster main villain. Out of all spiderman villains you chose tinkerer? Really?

Great game just like it's predecessor, but I can't help but feel like this game is a glorified DLC. I can't help that it reminds me when L4D2 came out with almost no difference from it's predecessor. Game is fun, main character has a great character arc, but the story nothing special even by generic standards.

Although the gameplay was improved, and have better web swing than the previous version, but the story is a big minus point I don't feel enough the pressure of being a super hero, it makes me fell like I'm watching an anime that every problems can be solved by power of belief.

Spider-Man Miles Morales, much like its predecessor, offers an extremely smooth combat system that offers a wide arrange of offensive options to chain combos contextually to the environment, but feels stagnant since it doesn't renew itself enough throughout the campaign. Even so, the addition of new offensive and stealth core mechanics makes the experience sensibly deeper, expanding on the already-rich combo possibilities and allowing the now mediocre bosses to showcase more depth in turn, on top of an improved moveset variety. Sadly, many of the new power-ups and gadgets suffer from notably poor balancing, allowing for an excessive exploitation of stealth. Thankfully, the abysmal non-spider-man sections have been removed, but the quality of the few puzzles in the main campaign still leaves much to be desired. The narrative once again perfectly captures the essence of the original character with a story about sacrifice depicted through engaging character drama, but said drama ends up terribly undermined by bland characters, a plethora of clichés and stereotypical villains.

That isn't a new game, it is just a DLC of the previous game and it managed to be worse both in the combat and the story.

The story isn't bad but is worse than the previous game. It is a cliche story and this game doesn't have a single memorable character, different from the previous game that had Dr. Octavius' story and some other cool villains. Also, Mary Jane was a cool character. They don't even appear in this game.

Just like the first game, this one also has an empty open world that only works for weeb swing and some random crimes.

This is not a full game. The only thing keeping this game above a negative is the fact that it builds on the gameplay of a complete game, Spiderman PS4. It shouldn't have been released and presented as a full PS5 experience with a story this weak, brief and predictable. Not a bad experience, but not a full-price one either.

If you've liked spider man, you'll like Miles Morales. However, it's more of the same, so do not expect great changes. I though it had too many collectibles in order to make the game looks longer. Story is good. 3D audio makes it even better.

Nothing wrong with the game itself but I don't think this should have been soled at the price it was. It is very short with it's 5 hour campaign. Roxxon is a reskin of sable and Simon is a boring Saturday morning cartoon villain. miles is so cool and he fits perfectly at the formula created by the first marvel's spider man, even if it kinda looks more like a big dlc to the game than a separate game

Visually this game is the copycat of the Spider-Man Remastered version except for the winter season. The swing mechanism and combat are almost or exactly the same. This game is even shorter than the previous one, and I find the story of the original Spider-Man is more appealing than it.

To be fair, I haven't played this game since 2021, so I might need to replay it, but as it stands I didn't think the story was very gripping and I think that might be partly because the game is so short. However, the combat, swinging, and graphics were all really good. 6/7 out of 10.

Stretched between two generations of consoles, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is more of a teaser than a real showcase of PS5’s capabilities. It does not feel like a full-fledged sequel either, but the original’s gameplay mechanics still work great, while new gadgets and skills related to electricity are fun to use. [13/2020, p.54]
