    Biggest surprise of the year! The trailers don't do this game justice. Guardinas of the Galaxy is a massive improvement over Marvel's Avengers, and hopefully a great new direction for the Eidos Montreal team!

    Despite the negative things that me and many others have probably said about this game, I’m proud to say the the developers at Eidos Montreal have proved me wrong, this game is actually really well done and very fun and is certainly a game of the year candidate for 2021!

    This game is incredible. Has an amazing story, the characters are very fun and well written, the world and levels designs are beautiful and the gameplay is pretty great for what it is. There’s so many cool eastereggs that will make you smile especially if you’re familiar with the comics. Amazing game definitely worth buying

    An excellent non-burdening game, you turn on and relax and enjoy what you see on the screen, thanks to the development team for this game, the battle system is a little crooked but not critical, also thanks to the publisher for the full localization into Russian

    GotG has a lot of heart and soul, which has been missing from other Marvel misadventures in video games. The game play is solid, but it shines in the dialogue and the vistas. Give it a go.

    amazing storytelling, funny dialogue, and gameplay is much better than expected. Definitely a step up from the avengers game and I hope to see more guardians titles in the future.

    This game not only looks good, it plays well and has a great story. Only the bugs spoil the joy. Chapter 12 was the worst so far with the bugs. Otherwise the movement animation does not work properly from time to time. What annoys me personally is the sometimes too high level of difficulty.     This is actually huge surprise. I was not paying attention to this game because it had Avengers vibes. But based on reviews I gave it a try and so far Im really satisfied. This is high quality single player game with awesome writing and fun action.

    I haven't been this happy with a game in years. It's clearly inspired by the Mass Effect series and yet adds to it in design quality. The ship and missions feel lively at all times, as there is constant conversation and banter going on. When it was over, I missed this found family immediately. Even as a GotG fan, this is by far my favorite Marvel content ever made, including the movies,I haven't been this happy with a game in years. There seems to be no end to their scripts during the journey. Yet surprisingly, it is never annoying and often even funny. The game starts strong with a story that you can empathize with. Each character carries its own pain and thus contributes to the whole. At the end it felt a bit too long due to the final chatters that are mostly filled with the same battles over and over again.

    All in all, this game has offered much more than I thought beforehand.

    Everything about this game is amazing. Except for maybe a gameplay itself. Sometimes it’s boring. But never the less. I really miss Deus Ex, but this game made me feel like Eidos can still do something amazing.
    Anyway…Just fking buy it! This game is really good.

    The game does everything real well. Music and dialogue are exceptional. The areas/levels were diverse and well planed out. The only Knock is the gameplay left more, I think I needed more skills or more customization of what I wanted my party members to do. The balance in the amount of combat to navigation was a little light on the combat side.

    This game has gone way above expectations. After the mediocrity of the Avengers game, many people were skeptical and so they should be. This game is amazing. The graphics are beautiful and colorful. The characters are well represented from the movies and the combat is like FF15 and Unchartered mix. There is strategy especially on higher difficulties.     This game is really fun! The character interaction with each other and their jokes are funny. The gameplay is a different take from both FF7 remake and Avengers and I really like it. Solid fun and humor keeps hooked.

    At lot of love went into this game! Animations and storytelling are top notch. Had an absolute blast with this game and if there was a little more exploration and the ability to play as the other guardians, this would have been a 10 for me! Highly recommend this one

    Fun game with some of the best dialogue I’ve heard from a video game in a verrrry long time. I hope SE uses this as the benchmark for all their future superhero games because this is significantly better than Avengers by about 15 and a half country miles.

Eidos Montreal have done everything right to make the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy one you just want to be a part of. You’ll find yourself wishing you were a Guardian, tagging along on theirFrom the very first gameplay trailer, I knew that this game wouldn’t be for everyone but that it spoke directly to me. However, I never expected the game to actually be this truly magnificent. Eidos Montreal have done everything right to make the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy one you just want to be a part of. You’ll find yourself wishing you were a Guardian, tagging along on their adventures. This game has some of the most stunning environments and facial animations that have ever existed in a game. Period. Combat is fun and engaging with progression points to look forward to. The real shining kick to the combat is the huddle where one of the many awesome licensed tracks plays as you finish off a big group of enemies or a boss. This has truly lead to some of the most fun gaming moments I have ever experienced. The story is incredible and the method that EM has chosen to tell the story is masterfully executed. I never expected to find myself loving this version of the Guardians even more than the MCU portrayals but here we are. I give this game a 10/10 and it has landed somewhere on my top 10 games of all time. What a truly fantastic experience this game has been. Thank you Eidos Montreal and to every individual who worked so hard on this game. All of the heart and effort you have all put into this game shines through brilliantly.… Expand

    I feel like Guardians is gonna suprise alot of people. It wasn't heavily advertised so they didn't overhype it. The gameplay is fun. The combat feels smooth and is fun messing with the abilities. The dialogue and voice acting is so on point with what they would say in the movies. And the fact that they took the time and spent the money to put in all those licensed classic rock songs showsI feel like Guardians is gonna suprise alot of people.     Very good game. It's so refreshing to play a more linear and focused story driven game after all the bland open world games that Ubisoft and their likes keep pushing out. I was very sceptical after the Avengers failure, but I'm glad it turned out really well.

    Amazing dialog, story, set pieces, combat, graphics. Almost didn't buy it day one but glad I did. If you love good immersive fun singleplayer games, don't miss out on this one!

    Tho, story, the blabbering, the atmosphere and the music are insanly good. Oh and also it good a decent lenght of 15 hours with replayability cause of some intresting dialouge options

    Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my second favorite modern Marvel game behind Spider-Man and slightly ahead of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Switch. GOTG gets a lot of things right and shows the value of having an old school, narrative driven, linear story that doesn't try to concern itself with live services or being a game that wants you to keep playing foreverMarvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my second favorite modern Marvel game behind Spider-Man and slightly ahead of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Switch. GOTG gets a lot of things right and shows the value of having an old school, narrative driven, linear story that doesn't try to concern itself with live services or being a game that wants you to keep playing forever (*cough*Avengers*cough*). The story isn't quite on par with the James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy movies but it comes close. Damn close in many spots. Graphically I found the game fantastic: Each location is visually distinct and really sells the illusion of being in space and visiting fantastical worlds while the character modeling, mocap, and lip sync is surprisingly well done for a multiplatform title. The level of detail is akin to Sony and Microsoft first party games. The soundtrack is a banger and the voice acting is superb.

    However, as much as I'd love to give the game a 9, I have to knock it down to an 8 for a few reasons:

    1) The constant banter gets old, very fast. You will hear the same line repeated multiple times, especially during prolonged fights and boss encounters. When exploring, the group is constantly talking and making quips or just outright holding your hand telling you where to go next. While a lot of the dialog is funny, the constant, never ending banter becomes grating, particularly when exploring to find collectibles. I started calling them the "Guardians of Never Shutting The Flork Up" because a moment of silence is rare indeed.

    2) The game is pretty easy. Playing on normal ("You got this... probably."), I never once felt like I was going to die. I never felt the need to use the huddle mechanic because everything died so quickly. Early boss fights were trivial. I switched to hard difficulty and it wasn't that much harder -- it just made certain enemies more bullet spongy.The only challenges on hard difficulty were the end stage bosses. I used the huddle mechanic maybe five times across the whole game and two of those times were on the chapter 14 boss.

    3) Performance was great until chapter 14. Rooms full of enemies, gold textures with fog, gold smoke, and god rays all over the place, plus all the particle effects from combat turned the game into a slideshow on several occasions. At a few points it became so bad that the only resolution was to pause, manually save, close the game and restart it. This would solve the problem for a room or two, but then it would return. This was the only problematic chapter. The game ran solidly before, and after, this point. Hopefully they can iron this out with future patches.

    Here are a few things that didn't bother me too much but might give others pause:

    The choices system is definitely not classic Biowarian -- so if you're expecting these choices to have any meaningful impact that will make repeat playthroughs significantly different, a la Mass Effect, you will be disappointed. Some choices will have game changing effects but nothing that fundamentally alters the structure of the story. It just changes the frequency or difficulty of some events or fights.

    There is a New Game Plus mode but there's little reason to play the game more than twice. Since the choices don't make any significant impact and the story always reaches the same conclusion regardless, the only reason to play a second time is to mop up any missed collectibles and make different decisions solely to hear the different dialog. If you don't care about either, this is a game you could play through once and be done with for good. Personally, I'm fine with that but your mileage may vary.

    All in all, I don't regret the purchase despite my reservations with past, recent Square-Enix titles. It's a fun romp that lives up to the crazy Guardians of the Galaxy branding.

Its easily one of the best stories I've seen all year in video games. The characters are really well done, even if not all of them are given equal bill throughout the game as it goes along.     Unfortunately not everything comes together here as the combat and gameplay is at best boring and lame. There's very few upgrades to pick up throughout the game and alot of enemies, especially toward the end of the game, have huge health bars that make things grind to a slowdown. Also the massive amount of bugs that I ran into here involving character animations and clipping would fill at 30 min video. There were easily dozens of them every chapter and I have no idea what caused any of them to occur. I didnt have any crashes but the sheer amount of them really took me out of some scenes.
    Even still this is an easy recommendation for me. Especially for anyone who only knows these characters from the MCU as this is definitely much more focused on alot of comic book storylines and really can show the range that some of these characters can have. The story and characters here are definitely worth the price of admission, even if the combat and bugs tried to slow it down.    … Expand

Not too difficult and even if it were, there are options for new players. The game is about the journey, the story, the humor, and the characters. It is a good time just like the movies. I guarantee you will enjoy this ride.

    The main feature of this game is the interaction among the Guardians. They argue and crack jokes just like in the movies. I am amazed at how fresh the writing is over so many hours of gameplay. This is like all of the best banter of the Mass Effect series in one game. I hope this creative team survives Square Enix’s sale of studios to Embracer.

    The look and feel of the game is straight out the comic book. The roster and some of the story elements are borrowed from the movies, but the colorful nature of the planets and NPCs are all comic book. The alien planets are some of the most diverse and creative that I have ever seen. Combat could be better. You play as Star Lord and direct your companions to use their special abilities. Star Lord has his guns, a melee attack, and his one abilities. Star Lord can also have his team “huddle up”. Choose the right pep talk and your team’s abilities refresh almost as soon as they use them. This makes every battle winnable eventually and that is kind of the point. This should all be familiar to Final Fantasy fans. Big difference here, though, is that the only upgrades are unlocking abilities. There are no levels and no need for grinding. This game is committed to maximum fun from start to finish.

    Full disclosure: this through was part of my PS+ Extra collection. I wish I had bought it last Holiday season instead of Deathloop. “Guardians of the Galaxy” is a guaranteed good time all the time.     Seems word of mouth has spread fast - GOTG really is as well put together as the positive reviews suggest. Ultimately everything comes together to tell a great comic book story in an fun interactive way.

    In many ways it follows the success of other action adventure comic book games like spiderman and arkham and although at times comes close to those, it is not a perfect gameplay experience.

    Youll be going forward through these linear sections, dealing with obstacles in the way and uing the other guradians to progress such as groot making a bridge or drax tipping things over or breaking walls.. and then there will be a fight, enemies will swarm you and you use your abilities and command the other 4 guardians for them to do teir special moves, and youll be able to fill up a meter to huddle up for some extra damage and listen to some classic 80s tunes while you kick alien butt.. at first this is all really fun, but eventually it just becomes tiresome, combat is so repetitive and a slog to get though due to how spongy enemies are, it just never feels satisfying and was my least favorite part of the game.. I enjoyed the traversing and problem solving, dealing with waves of bullet sponges, not so much…
    That’s being said, marvels guardians of the galaxy is a crazy goofy adevnute, there are great action pieces here.. the world is fun to get around, the writing is hilarious at times, and I loved the incorporation of 80s music,
    The game does overstay its welcome for somone not really a fan of the IP, but this is still a great game to run through

It's nice that the voice actors and the graphics artists are not trying to emulate the looks of the MCU versions of Star-Lord et al., and each hero is a unique reinterpretation of the originals from the comic books.

    GotG is a squad-based light RPG in the style of Mass Effect. You control Star-Lord and give commands to the AI controlled party members. The game is single player and very linear, which is a good thing for story-based games, in a world where every game tries to be a 60-hours-long open world epic, or even worse, a live service game (Avengers, I'm looking at you).

    The graphics are great to look at, but the game's optimization is sub-par. On PS5 you can choose between a Quality mode (4K at 30 fps) and a Performance 60 fps mode that drops resolution lower than expected, down to just 1080p, along with lower quality settings. Animation is OK even though nothing extraordinary, but it's still a big improvement compared with the E3 2021 trailer where animation quality was utter junk. There are still patches coming to fix streaming issues and little visual bugs, but I don't expect developers to improve this game as much as they'd have to. There is a clear lack of budget and time to polish the game well enough.

    What this game lacks in technical deficiency makes up for it with an excellent soundtrack. There are lots of licensed songs from the '80s, as well an an original heavy metal album with songs written by the fictitious Star-Lord band. You can even read the in-game CD album's lyrics sheet, like everyone used to in the past, at the game's intro. And if you are a streamer, you can select to feature only the original album in the background in order to avoid music labels taking down your streams.

    Overall, GotG is a must play game for everyone. It has some technical deficiencies, but it also has a lot of heart inside. I'd rate it higher if it was more polished, but it's still a great game.    … Expand

    Well this is certainly not what I've expected from the game. This has been the best Marvel game I've played so far. The story and characters are superb, it's like you're looking at the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The gameplay is a lot of action and it may be the only issue I have - it might seem repetitive for some people. I had tons of fun. I finished the game in approximately 20 hours.

    - the game runs smooth and is very pc friendly

    - the game looks very good

    - of course the 80s music makes everything in the game so much better

    - the amount of funny dialog between the characters ,makes the whole game so real and as if you are watching the movie

    - the enemies have a cool very guardians of the galaxy feel to them

    - the huddle up mechanic which is basically a clutch button that you press for everyone to regroup on you and motivate everyone with 80s music is just so cool i sometimes used it for no reason just for the cool factor and of course to get rick rolled by the game

    - the space battles with your ship are a bit clunky but a surprisingly warm welcome i was seriously surprised they added them at all

    - the amount of times i laughed out loud because the jokes and humor were on point the whole game just try's to have fun with you and ease up very serious situations with humor and funny moments

    - the tale tale choices mechanic were also a warm welcome and they actually change the story the whole thing was very minor making you choose between 2 answers but still cool nonetheless

    cons:

    - no depth what so ever on the upgrade bench

    - no depth what so ever in the skills you choose for the guardians

    - combat is a little clunky and i switched to easy mode because all the enemies are basically bullet sponges plus its really disappointing you cant take over the other characters your just stuck with starlord giving orders to everyone

    - a lot of bugs and glitches found myself reloading the checkpoint a lot just because a wall didn't break or something didn't render or the game just straight up glitched out

    - the story felt a bit stretched at the end and isn't the strongest part of the game

    - Near the end they just started to recycle enemies and it felt like at some point Im fighting the same 4 types over and over again

    - sometimes the game will bug and everyone will just repeat their voice lines in battle like 3 or 4 times they have to fix it quick it really annoyed me and took off the whole immersion

    in conclusion the guardians of the galaxy surprised me a lot, a single player game with no microtransaction and actually done good this time unlike the avengers game ? now that's something very rare.

    i strongly recommend this game for marvel fans but only after a month or 2 because they got to fix the bugs and glitches which brings me to my final score a 8 out of 10    … Expand

    Really enjoyable game. Couldn't put it down, beat it in a single weekend. Battles were a lot of fun and beautiful. OUTSTANDING soundtrack (can't stress this enough) and genuinely funny. A welcome break from the MCU watered down story telling.

    Downside is the limited replayability / spaceship controls.

    Really solid Marvel game with a surprisingly great story that dives deep into each characters. The game starts slow but really ramps up after the first act with tons of secrets to explore. The combat I felt was basic but still fun if you can get into it. Overall it was a solid experience and I hope to have a sequel its way better than their previous title Marvels Avengers.

    Just completed the game and damn was that a hell of a ride. 18-20 hours of story/ gameplay inc. outfit and collectables hunting. Brilliant story, great combat, awesome acting. Deep comic cuts keeping you on your toes. Very humorous and excellent Score + 80's soundtrack...8/10

Combat is alot better than I expected after you get most of your abilities. The Writing is great throughout with a few laugh out loud moments. If you like the mcu Guardian's of the galaxy you should definitely play this game.

    Ultimately, I think this game will end up being around a 7. At the time of writing this I'm about to start chapter 3 so take that for what it's worth. I just have to get some stuff off my chest about this game at this moment. The initial impression was very very good and I will say that this is NOT a bad game at all. But I'd be lying if I said it was without many flaws. It was all going nice until the end of chapter 1. It ends with you flying your ship (or you think your flying your ship). The game literally has an intense scene and all you do is watch it play out. The second I realized I wasn't actually controlling anything, I started to have the doubts creep in. I did overlook it until chapter 2. My F-in oath. I did F all for 35 minutes. It was essentially a 35 min interactive cutscene where all you have to do is press a button every 15-20 seconds and the game will do the rest for you. Oh you do a little walking .. that was the extent of the "gameplay" in chapter 2. I'm going to play the game through and just enjoy it for what it is, a great story driven game with good characters. That's it. if your looking for an immersive experience, this game will not do any of that for you. If your looking for a silly, solid story driven game where you can just sit back and watch the movie then buy it. I'm sure it will get a little better once more skills are unlocked and more upgrades become available but, when you really really look at this game and get past all the great music, graphics, etc. you will realize that it is very flawed. It IS better than Avengers I will give it that but buyer beware here. You will not feel like your Star lord because the game doesn't allow that. It constantly takes control away from you breaking any immersion that there could have been. I would not recommend this game at full price, wait until it's around the $30 mark or so. Has a lot of potential but overall, not very good.

    I was seriously surprised with how good this game was. I expected to enjoy it more than my little time with Marvel's Avengers but not this much. Guardians of the Galaxy oozes with personality, sticking with that merry band of misfits well and creating amazing connections between all of them. All the team members are important in the writing, gameplay, and story. Nothing was lacking inI was seriously surprised with how good this game was. The combat is a little simplistic as well as the upgrade system, but it really starts to pick up the more abilities you upgrade, and it was insanely fun to combine all of the Guardian's abilities, syncing them together with the correct items to do large amounts of damage to one heavy enemy of lay waste to a bunch of smaller enemies. The level design is excellent and the soundtrack, while horrendous for streamers with all the copyrighted music, has great choices. I think the biggest flaw of the game is that the mechanics of the game are really too simple, and there isn't a whole lot of depth despite the almost DMC-style of ranking system after every battle. You don't really get combos with melee or your guns, and the main way of showing style is how you combine and use your team's abilities. Overall you can tell this game had much more flavor and personality in comparison to Avengers, and doens't feel nearly as generic. It is fresh and fun, and I'm happy because there is probably going to be young kids playing this game and absolutely loving it. That, and no microtransactions plus a NG+ mode means I'll probably do another playthrough soon.… Expand

    Great game, finally some single player that is just fun to play. Interesting plot, fantastic combat and the graphic looks really good too. Looking forward to more games from this studio.

    To put it simply, it’s a near flawless game. Story is one of the bests I’ve played, amazing graphics, surprisingly fun gameplay, and never a boring moment with all the fun dialogue. Also the choices you get to make throughout the story is a great addition. Would highly recommend to everyone, especially those who love a good story driven game.

Even the preview build couldn't sell many audiences about how intricate the combat system and most importantly, how fleshed out the characters in this game are. Not only the 5 guardians, but also a great variety of supporting characters and villains. The 1980s soundtrack (a list of more than 50 songs) just kicks in at the right moment, during gameplay and scripted sequences. The dualsense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, imitating the exact feel of StarLord's repulsors, just heighten the all senses to an absolute peak level. The performance mode on PS5 is super smooth, although I would recommend testing the quality mode from time to time as well (during exploration sequences), to really get a sense of how much detail has been put into these characters and environment. With the Ray Tracing update on it's way to next-gen consoles, this game is a definite must play right now, and must be replayed for alternative dialogue options that pop-up in almost any situation/action. This game is beautifully crafted from start to finish and is miles ahead of both the movies that portray the guardians of the galaxy. Every next-gen console and pc owner must experience this game first hand, and if you can get your hands on the PlayStation 5 system, then definitely don't play this without the haptics and the triggers enabled, alongside the controller speaker. Besides Arkane Studio's Deathloop, this game is clearly a game of the year contender for me.… Expand

    Guardians of Galaxy are the real blast that Marvel fans needed after more than mediocre Avengers. The “worst” part of the game is a mere fact, that you are not able to enjoy every single comment in the background and enjoy very well written characters.

    The story is entertaining, and it features characters from the Marvel universe that haven't yet surfaced in the movies, such as Fin Fang Foom, Lady Hellbender and the Nova Corps. Add in the requisite humor and self-deprecation and an eclectic killer soundtrack, and you get one of the most enjoyable games of the year.
