    No matter how many times the community asks for this broken game to be fixed, EA still can’t make a decent simulation football game. Nobody cares about buying packs fro ultimate team or playing the yard and spending money on gear. Zone coverages are still busted and they still can’t implement physics on next gen consoles.     This game is absolute trash!! Same predetermined animations, same ol commentators, same everything with more bugs than madden 21!! Idk how it got worse but it definitely did, there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEXT-GEN about this game!! Player movement trash, graphics trash, presentation new(kinda).. but still trash, halftime show trash, superbowl presentation trash, Urban Myers on Face of theThis game is absolute trash!!     This game is absolute garbage! Toss all the bugs and glitches and broken mechanics aside, this game is not a good simulation football game. We want a totally different on the field experience!     Safetys in this game are literally damn stupid. If you say that this game is good, we shouldn't even start a conversation about because you simply can't understand football.

    DO NOT BUY!!!! I cant stress enough how shallow this game is, and how little it has to offer. You will be bored within 3-4 hours of playing trust me. DO NOT BUY!!!!

    I have had a lot of Maddens except I won't buy this years' version since it has gotten so bad. I remember 11 years ago when the game had so much more to do in-game and the gameplay was decent. The fact that every year EA gives excuses is mind-boggling. They should be able to bring back every feature that used to be in Madden already but they blame it on the lack of resources.     I've been playing Madden since it 1st came out and I must say that the moment NFL 2k came in to the picture for $20 I was hooked on the game play and the presentation. Then the contract came in to play so I've had no option to play another football game but Madden. I've been purchasing Madden 100+ again this year on PS5 to notice its basically a tiny bit better than 21 which was NOT a sub part effort from EA. I've played MUT, FOF and CFM with that being my Fav and I've purchased the game for $117 to find out its not complete with features till September and most of the new features are from NHL and copied over to Madden. Unacceptable.. Game play is still scripted and at times I feel like I'm just going through the motions and the game will decide if I win or lose. The very first game I played was down 4 points with ball and 3 minutes left. I'm driving down the field and I'm in the zone and get in the the red zone. I audible a hot route to send my TE up the middle of the field as I notice the defense is in cover 2. The pass I throw is perfect, high lob pass to a wide open TE who beats the MLB covering the middle of the field and the SS who was covering my WR2 comes of him and out of no where closes the gap in which bring my TE in to this weird jump animation and tips the ball which was caught by TE in the end zone. Then the unthinkable happens, the MLB catches up to play and begins the tip drill suddenly there are 4 defenders around my once wide open TE and the ball actually hits the grass (I know this because I could only see half the on the ground in replay) and the SS who is in the air immediately reaches down in a cat like quickness to scoop the ball of the ground and you guessed it, it's a interception. I thought okay were good let's challenge the call no doubt they'll see in NY (wait that's not in the game... Yet..) this call will be overturned. It's locked? Oh wait it's under 2 minutes that's right the refs on the field {that are missing) had to see it or the booth will... Nope!! It's their ball the down it 3 times and I lose the game as well as dignity for buying this game and trying to give EA another opportunity to get it right. You got my money now give me a game that plays like real NFL Football. I basically bought the game to continue to play CFM with some friends in a 32 man lg which is fun but we have to wait till September to start so I'm stuck playing MUT which I absolutely hate. The grind is the same as last year just to get a couple decent cards and a few training points but if I spend a couple of $100 I can pull some **** cards which happened in Madden 20 so that was the last time I did that and Madden 21 a spent no money barely grinded and with a bunch of free packs everytime I logged in to MUT once or twice every month by the end of Madden 21 I ended up with a 94 overall team. MUT is the same as last year, I wish there was some incentive for players to not quit in Seasons H2H. I'm tired of playing kids who rage quit in the first quarter when I go up 7 points. Really? Kid if your reading this, your NEVER going to get better at the game if you can't learn to play defense against competitors who are better than you. Learn from your loss and figure out how to get better. Either way my score is a zero because I felt like that was the effort that EA made to come up with a fresh and improved simulation football game. Oh yeah, I also tried Face of the Franchise and playing the college was a waste of time and not a challenge and the story was no different then any other attempt you've made in the past and the Jags ended up with me and Trevor Lawrence as 2 first round picks? Oh well maybe I had an option somewhere to go to a different team of I didn't skip through the bull interactions but my character seemed to know he was going #1 no matter what. As for now my score will be 0 till the game gets patched 20 more times and the fix the game play and add the features that were expected this year and we'll see if it worth the $117 I spent, as of now it's a 0 just like the amount I should of paid for this game.     EA, you have lost the trust, faith, appreciation, and respect from even your most loyal fans such as myself by your true lack of care, greed, and true effort of attempting to take advantage of your customers since Madden 13 came out. I said enough was enough when Madden 21 came out and ever since I have refused to buy this game because that would mean I would support the very company I have grown to despise so much by buying their product. Leaders in our community such as Ryan Moody have helped people such as myself learn the truth about EA and their exclusive (Monopoly) license with the NFL and if we want a good simulation football game ever again then we must fight back against the evil EA Sports. Join the cause by not buying Madden 22 and together we can help companies such as 2K get bank to doing what they do best. We can win the fight people, just continue to remain strong and determined. In emphasis if you buy Madden you are part of the problem. If you don’t buy Madden you are being a true part of the solution. It’s not hard, and it certainly isn’t complicated.     The developers only care about money. Nothing else. They make the game just playable for No Money Spent Players for them to latch onto hope thinking it will become better. And it in fact doesn't....ever. It just becomes more pay to win day by day.

    Another year another broken game. When will EA fire the entire Tiburon staff and throw out the legacy code that has been running this franchise into the dirt for the last decade? I preordered and then played the trial and called Sony today and got a refund. EA relinquish the NFL rights so an actual competent developer can make a football sim.

    Offline franchise is broken. Online franchise the game auto subs starters and the only way to bring them back in is to super sim the next play. FOTF is a broken buggy mess. Everything for your avatar now costs money. No more freebies. The GameDay experience is a joke as is the momentum meter. Save your money this game is trash

    I was really hoping this game would turn out better than last years but sadly I was disappointed. It is the same old repetitive gameplay it has been for years now. Playing franchise mode honestly gives me depression from how dull and boring it is. Save your money.

I've been playing since John Madden Football on the Sega Genesis, haven't missed a year (except last year) so I decided to give it a go, even though I knew I would be underwhelmed just based on the poor marketing EA has done (might as well call it damage control instead of marketing), the way they have treated the community for so many years andI wish Madden was good, I really really do.     In this review, I'm not gonna talk about bugs and glitches, because there are too many, especially for a AAA game that releases every year and is always pretty much the same as the year before. EA is regressing big time at that point when it comes to Madden.

    MUT :
    I don't like it, I've tried it, it's a ripoff, it's extremely repetitive, not fun and I hate the fact that the other game modes don't really give you anything more for MUT like it is in MLB The Show. The thing I hate the most about MUT is the fact that you start over every year, your money or grind from the years before is lost forever and that makes no sense. It's the same thing over and over every year, I'm not getting ripped off there again. This mode should be a free game as it is for all pay-to-win games.

    Superstar KO :
    I don't even care about it, I don't have a need for it, I don't want it, so even if it's good, which I doubt it is because I don't know what purpose it serves at all, I'm not gonna play it ever. I want a SIMULATION game, not an arcade one, although I will buy the arcade NFL Game 2K is supposed to be working on.

    Face of the Franchise :
    Story is lame, but mostly, it has no depth to it. Career modes could be so much more now, it could be a true Football RPG, but instead, it's just a linear football story without a real story mode. Once you get to the NFL, it gets boring really fast. The possibilities are endless with a career mode, yet EA comes up with this shallow experience.

    The Yard :
    In theory, it could be a lot of fun, but why isn't it more like NBA 2K's playground? Your career mode should be directly related to it and that's it, it isn't really compicated! All you got to do is copy the competition... Even though there is none. The rewards in this mode are unexciting, it is once again very shallow and doesn't do anything to make me want to play it.

    Franchise mode :
    This is the mode I thought back in 2000 would be insanely deep and fun to play in 2021. Never in my wildest nightmares I would have thought Franchise would be as bad as it is now. It's been a mixbag of recycled assets from year to year, no attention to detail, zero presentation, bad commentary, boring scouting, nothing stimulating to do between games, etc. They don't care or they are just too far off what people want as a franchise mode. We deserve more respect and more polish to a game we have been playing and paying for for so long. It's sad the game is at this level now.

    Graphics :
    The graphics are good, but still not great because of a lack of attention ton detail. The bugs really screw that part of the game and make it look weak. I'd say this is the best part about Madden, but even on next gen, you're still looking at Madden, not NFL Football and that's what sucks about it.

    Gameplay :
    The gameplay, for so many years, has been about exploiting glitches and that hasn't changed. You don't play football and devise a football strategy, you devise a cheesy Madden strategy. Here again, the bugs make the gameplay so frustrating and unrealistic, in the end it's just not fun.

    The NFL has to put a stop to this exclusivity agreement they have with EA, for the sake of their fans. We deserve better.    … Expand

    Same thing year after year. Madden has turned into nothing but a pretty skin to get people spending in Ultimate Team. Every loading screen entices you to buy, the game manipulates you into JIST losing so you are more apt to spend money, etc. Game should be outlawed for enticing child gambling.

    Ok, look. I saw all the bad reviews. I saw all the glitches. But I thought I would give the game a chance, as I had gamepass, so I got 10 hours for free. Honestly was not worth the effort to click "download". before the first 30 seconds, I was already outraged. It thought my last name was profanity! WHAT? this was sadly the least bad thing about the game. Nothing works. It's like theyOk, look. I saw all the bad reviews. I saw all the glitches.     This has got to be the biggest joke of a simulation football game. I just watched my players play fifa for 3 minutes before the ball went out of bounds. Players are hella animation dependant threw a pass to Julio only to have a 68 ovr corner make up 6 yards down the field to intercept the pass from a full sprint Julio madden is worse every year let’s hope they don’t mess up college football.

    I like many others could go on for days about things that could continue to be improved in this game, but one thing that has me quite annoyed it how contracts players have in real life aren’t ”in the game”. Pat Mahomes (the cover athlete) is signed for 10 years in real life but in the game he only has a 6 year contract (through 2027). I just don’t get it. This the only option for a simulation football game we have because EA cornered the market and they can’t even get the cover athletes contract right in the game!? I’ve never made a video game, but I can’t imagine it’s that hard to just have his contract set for 10 years or give us the ability as players to sign our franchise players for 10 years like the Mahomes deal.
    Like I said to start, it’s on the right path in regards to changes, it’s just not enough in my option to spend money on it yet.

    I played Madden 21 and had an OK time. This year they have completely broken zone coverage, adjustments to coverage, sped up the game so it is harder to user control, and basically destroyed any desire to play the game head to head. I am not buying and I will go waste my money on one of the broken indie knockoffs because at least I know my money is going to a company that is actually trying.

    I haven't played the game. However, you don't need to when there is a clip of Tua throwing with his right arm. That alone speaks volumes for the lack of attention EA puts in to Madden. How can I trust them to make a proper game when they can't get a simple detail correct?

Madden gives the menus new coats of paint or just adds back one of 50 modes the ps2 games had. Good luck throwing or running in this game, the defense is so overpowered you’ll throw at least 4 interceptions a game, the receivers are not aggressive at all and just stand there while defenders come snag the ball away, the players run and feel like there running in quicksand and haven’t had good animations. If you do win in the game madden will just give you a loss anyways. Technically you could throw one play touchdowns the entire game because the zones are completely broken. The players scans are awful there are some that are good but 90 percent bad. Franchise mode has zero to offer and I mean zero it’s the most basic mode I’ve ever seen this year but just wait for an update EA says like the whole game itself. 0/10 for my review, Sony and Xbox pull cyberpunk bc of glitches then this game has got to go as well because it worse please don’t waste your money… Expand

Multiple NFL Stars are missing facescans, player mugshots are not there, NFL rosters aren't updated, aesthetic visuals are not updated - political messaging from what was left in the forced-diversity politics in which EA wanted to put in my games from last year of 2020 are still in the game. Phrases like "End Racism" are still on the back of players helmets when they aren't now as of the late 2021 NFL Season, which just goes to show they just copied and pasted the player models instead of updating them. Player tattoos are still not allowed, Equipment was hanged out, left to dry with only receiving maybe two additions at best. You can tell when certain stadiums get the EA treatment over others, some still have the exact same textures when a team is on the low, but if a team like the Bears for certain gets a new popular QB, the stadium will only be slightly updated with better textures. Lighting is even worse than 21's, there is no Dynamic Weather Events despite EA claiming 22 has "dynamic gameplay", immersion doesn't feel any better than it did last year. They tried to do it with the Home Advantage system, however I feel like that's just a cheap copout to enforce more DDA within the game's system if gamers aren't paying attention. The same panoramic shots of the field happen, there is no variety to it. The UI for scoreboards is only slightly changed when you score a TD which is cool but then you would have to think about how late EA would be considering score presentations were already in the game almost 10+ years ago. No disrespect to Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis but they've on this game since Madden 17, I've been able to go from High School to College and they're still on this game? Why isn't there more commentators working on this game? Is EA really that greedy? It's annoying to hear the same voices over and over again. I was really hoping for a change, but hope is something that EA corps like to suck out of you for profit.

    Functionality: 0/5: I'm always willing to give any brand new game the benefit of the doubt when it launches because bugs are always bound to occur. With this year giving EA even more time to develop their game, there should be absolutely ZERO excuses as to why this game is as broken as it is. On my first night of playing with my friend, we had to stop and restart our game 3 times because of how unplayable it is. This game has multiple game breaking bugs that prevent you from either finishing games or even getting to halftime without some gameplay-stopping glitch occuring in the process. Animation warps still occur, when I say that this game is NOT dependant on motion and physics, I mean it. This game will suck you into so many animation tackles that it ruins any chance of getting YAC plays, or even running the ball. Forget about using any team that doesn't have Escape Artist on the Quarterback, you will get sacked consecutively if you dare to move around or step up in the pocket. WR vs CB/FS/SS logic still isn't there, I played for around 10 hours this week and I found the receivers having a harder time trying to make big body catches, without getting warped into an animation that either gives the DB leverage over the receiver or gives them an automatic interception animation that clips through the receiver. Don't even bother to use TE's this year if they aren't above an 87+ rating, it feels like they are nonexistent giants when you try to throw to them. DB's are somehow still bullying TE's which makes no sense given the size differences. There should no excuse as to why this game is still running 2 different UI's in the background, it slows menu loading times by multiple seconds and makes everything harder to get through. The UI in Franchise is not only confusing but works against itself in the process - you could tell they copied NHL's layout in the past and threw it all together within a couple of months. That's not the dedication and honor that the EA Devs promised sports gamers a year ago.

    Please do not buy this game if you are not willing to review it and give it the criticism it deserves. It's abundantly clear that EA is not willing to make generation defying leaps with the hardware that this game is now on, nor are they willing to rebuild this game's engine from the ground up to make everything more versatile and better ran. EA is a stubborn company that will not fire it's bad employees because of how bad they've ran this franchise into the ground. Nobody who's a programmer or designer with a lick of common sense would want to enter it and I don't blame them. 0/10.    … Expand

I am honestly disappointed in myself for hoping for something better, it's quite obvious at this point that EA is milking this exclusive license with the tiniest amount of effort they can, because they are the only show in town with an NFL license.    … Expand

You don’t get to work your way up from any high school or any college. You are forced to pick a college, there isn’t many selections and just the same few teams from Madden 20. You can’t even change your number you just stuck with a number that EA forces you to wear. The cutscenes are broken and cheesy. The characters mouths sometimes doesn’t move when their voice is speaking and if you do proceed to skip the cutscenes the audio will be glitched, forcing them to repeat themselves after you already heard them once. If you are a QB you are most likely getting drafted to the Jaguars which is nice because you are the number one pick but they already having Trevor so it’s stupid. After you play a season it’s just franchise mode right after that with a few little scenarios here and there. Franchise mode is broken as well. I created a created player to use because I didn’t want to play the barebones Face of the Franchise mode. I won a game or so with my created RB and when I went back to the Franchise Screen, we somehow lost the game which we clearly won. If you are the home team your team isn’t getting the win which is just a dumb glitch. Also, you can’t look for a right tackle or RT because EA made both of those left tackles or LT. We need to boycott EA and force them to make an actual good madden game or never buy this fraudulent piece of ****… Expand

    I don’t leave reviews. This is not my cup of tea, however after doing the 10 hour trial with my pro membership I felt obligated to run here and leave one. This is bar far the worst madden I have ever played and maybe one of the worst games I’ve played in recent memory. It’s clunky, glitchy recycled garbage. Save your money. Play last years version.

    I'll admit that EA fooled me....again. I really listened to their message that they were rebuilding franchise mode and making the experience more playable. The truth is that 98% of this game is exactly the same as Madden 21. They added home-field advantage and added (useless & unlicensed) assistant coaches, but there are no changes to the core game-play and have done absolutely nothingI'll admit that EA fooled me....again.     Everything is contextual. This game is not a 1. If this was the first football game I had ever played, I'd say wow, they get pretty close to the real deal and I could forgive a few bugs and probably give it a 6 or 7. It is however not the product everyone anticipated in the days of Madden 05-08. By extrapolating how good the game was then, we could only imagine how good it would be 14 years later. Here were are though several console generations later, and we have seen stark movement backwards, particularly in franchise mode. With every new console generation, the game is torn down, stripped of features and then they slowly the features are put back in the game as "new features" until the launch of the next new console when it's all gone again.

    The fact that this game is a multi-million dollar IP with millions of players all pumping money into their mobile-esque game modes such as the Yard and M.U.T. makes it all the more disappointing that the game is so unpolished and leaving players wanting more. Worse still is that this is the ONLY simulation football game available, yet Madden seems to lead with the more arcadey and microtransaction heavy M.U.T. and Yard modes. If I wanted this type of gameplay I would emulate NFL Street or Blitz.

    I think this game would be served well to go with a subscription model, You pay say $50 bucks for Madden once and they continue to improve and patch as time goes on. As a new year comes, they update rosters, and hopefully add more depth to modes such as franchise. They would still make their money from people buying packs or Spongebob pants or whatever, and leave the rest of us NOT paying $70-$100 per year for a roster update and less features. I can't recommend a purchase the way the game is now. So sad, because I have supported this franchise for literally 20 years over every other football product. It would appear as though the publishers and shareholders are more important than the gamers at this point...    … Expand

    Completely broken. Had game breaking glitches in most modes to include characters not spawning so I would fail challenges or the game crashing altogether. Terrible game.

And while some things like home field advantage aren't bad. (not great either) the broken gameplay makes this game unplayable.

    WR's still run their route and then just stand there. DB's still morph through players to break up passes or get the pick. O line logic is still completely useless, coverage is a nightmare... I could go on and on. And most of these things could be somewhat fixed with sliders. But only one game mode actually lets you use sliders. That connected franchise. And the biggest addition to that mode isn't even available yet.

    Face of the Franchise is a joke. First off, it's connected to the yard. Making it a online based mode. So you have to be connected to the servers to play it. You can't adjust sliders. The path leading up to the draft is corny as hell. Draft logic makes zero sense. ( As a QB I was drafted number #1 to the Jaguars) No matter what you do, you are a top 3 pick. Its all smoke and mirror. The "choices" you make are meaningless. They give you a total of like 3 one question interviews, you do a few drills and play the college playoffs on the easily level. You get to the NFL and the cut scenes are cringe worthy. The broadcast team acts like you aren't even there. After you finish your first season, they still refer to you as a rookie.. It's a joke. FOF is connect Franchise with some make up to make it "look good"

    MUT is MUT. Not much changed. And I haven't even started a season mode yet. Because I'm waiting on the update. Pointless to start now, only to be forced to start over if I want scouting.

The code just builds on the broken games before, which causes more glitches and just makes the game even more dependent on horrible, unrealistic animations. They give out thousands of copies to various NFL teams, players, and influencers to give away, crowding out any actual criticism of the game. They clearly aren't proud of their product, or else they wouldn't be giving away THOUSANDS of copies every year for free. It's a cash grab, and it's really sad to see. Hopefully either these predatory, virtual gambling-esque microtransactions like the ones we see in MUT are made illegal or the NFL comes to its senses and ends the exclusive licensing agreement with EA, because this is not simulation NFL football. Also please remove the scripted FoF and put in an actual Superstar mode, you know the one from back in the PS2 era. The yard is rip off of NFL street. Side note, I loved the Street series. Bring that back instead of this garbage mode in Madden.
    Franchise is largely the same until we get the updated scouting. Which will probably bring a ton more of bugs. Can someone just the contract? The cover athlete doesn't even have his correct contract in. Offseason still doesn't matter. The draft is boring. Free agency just goes to the highest bidder. Devs, you do know that NFL players don't only follow money. You know, some choose less money to go to a winning team right??. Where are comp picks?? Don't even get me started on the same copy and paste relocation mode. Nothing changed there...

    Madden is just a game full of modes that are largely unfinished. Then every year you go and make it seem y'all made a huge leap. Fix the game. FROM THE GROUND UP.

Playing franchise and playing games within the season, I have won the game but when I return to the main menu to advance the week I some how lost the game I had played and won. Although if EA was really focused on improving franchise, why isn't this the cornerstone for the game at launch? The truth is, EA was just paying those of us who don't take part in micro transactions lip service. As for gameplay, I'm playing on the PS5 and the presentation looks decent but the play on the field doesn't feel any different from PS4 and Madden 21. The home field advantage and momentum is cool, but not game changing. It, again, was in NCAA football for years. In summation, I clearly am not enjoying this game. I want to, but the game is not letting me. During the build up to release we were promised a new and improved Madden and all we got currently is an incomplete mess. This game was my sole purpose for buying a next gen console. Intentionally failed every drill, had zero catches in the college games, and answered questions to make my draft stock go down. I was selected 3rd overall by the 49ers. So I then make a qb in face of the franchise. My first drills I was left with no receiver so I failed every rep. My name was also changed to Wilson, and my avatar was not my created character, I morphed into Lamar Jackson. I continued and my next workout left me without a receiver again followed by the team workout with the jets to see no receivers again. Shocker. At this point I decide trying to improve draft stock is a bust so I tank on purpose. Intentionally throwing as many pics as possible and losing in the playoffs followed by failing the same questions I fielded play as a wr. Once again I was drafted 3rd by the 49ers. Come to find out, trey lance was ALSO drafted 3rd by the 49ers. Logik. I quit that dumpster fire of a game mode to play a franchise. Same copy and paste stuff we have seen in years past. Player contracts are not correct, player models are wrong, I get to the draft and all of my scouting was lost. So now I get to draft blind, but wait. Now I’m literally blinded. By a light from the draft stage. I can’t see any of the picks before me and there is now way to see during the draft. Fantastic. I made it through 3 rounds before the white light encompassing the entire screen drove me mad to the point of just simming it. This was all the farther I made it. I contacted Sony about a refund and was granted one. Stay far away from this game. At best it’s a bug filled copy and paste of what we have had over the last 6 years.     I can't believe EA is still trying to charge consumers money for this garbage. The game does not reflect what players have asked for in the slightest. Face of the Franchise is back and more broken than ever. Franchise is missing the features that EA's NHL has. As somebody who plays these games for the franchise and MyCareer experiences, I feel disrespected.

    Let’s be realistic. For an annual sports franchise, it’s not necessarily practical to expect huge evolution year on year. It’s also fair to say that at a minimum, players should expect EA to deliver incremental quality of life improvements and make an effort to hone their overall experience of the game for the better. Whilst there is only so far the needle can be pushed year on year, the launch of a new Madden on next-gen systems presented EA with an opportunity to really raise the bar. That’s why it’s particularly disappointing that Madden 22 only offers stagnant content and, sadly, creative disinterest.

    Madden is as compelling as it ever was, but it can’t escape the slight feeling that things are spread a little too thin. Improvements to franchise mode are welcome and help the experience, but they are smaller than perhaps they deserve. With so many different ways to play football, it’s a little difficult to get in invested in any one game.
