    A pathetic excuse for a simulation football game. EA, once again, disappoints, this year more than ever, with a never-ending onslaught of glitches and bugs that make the game nearly unplayable. From bugs that have been in the game for years (color rush bug) to new ones (you can lag yourself out of a game using play art), you will never find yourself having a stable situation in this game.A pathetic excuse for a simulation football game.     I got my hopes up for nothing. They promised that they would put effort into franchise. Instead we got generic assistant coaches (no powerhouse coaching staffs filled with HCs like Maddens 10+ years ago), features that don't work, games saying you lost even tho you won, and missing players. Don't get me wrong, the game is beautiful. Beautiful graphics, the game day environment hasI got my hopes up for nothing. They promised that they would put effort into franchise.     Its awful. You should be ashamed of yourself EA. Yes, its better than 21 but only by a small margin and while some things from 21 next gen got better some things got worse. Dropped picks almost every time. And when you go into regs with a custom it glitches you and gives you the L. Pathetic. Coach suggestions dudes can win a game against a pro. Skill gap is SO SMALL.

    Another year with the same old crap. Can’t wait for the day EA can no longer touch the nfl license. They need to stop these yearly releases and rebuild the game from the ground up but we all know EA will never put that kind of effort into any of their crappy sports games

    It's often considered that if you do the bare minimum, you get bare minimum results back in return. In this case, EA Sports did not even bother to do that. This is comparable to putting piss on a turd and then calling it your "golden child"...

Multiple NFL Stars are missing facescans, player mugshots are not there, NFL rosters aren't updated, aesthetic visuals are not updated - political messaging from what was left in the forced-diversity politics in which EA wanted to put in my games from last year of 2020 are still in the game. Phrases like "End Racism" are still on the back of players helmets when they aren't now as of the late 2021 NFL Season, which just goes to show they just copied and pasted the player models instead of updating them. Player tattoos are still not allowed, Equipment was hanged out, left to dry with only receiving maybe two additions at best. You can tell when certain stadiums get the EA treatment over others, some still have the exact same textures when a team is on the low, but if a team like the Bears for certain gets a new popular QB, the stadium will only be slightly updated with better textures. Lighting is even worse than 21's, there is no Dynamic Weather Events despite EA claiming 22 has "dynamic gameplay", immersion doesn't feel any better than it did last year. They tried to do it with the Home Advantage system, however I feel like that's just a cheap copout to enforce more DDA within the game's system if gamers aren't paying attention. The same panoramic shots of the field happen, there is no variety to it. The UI for scoreboards is only slightly changed when you score a TD which is cool but then you would have to think about how late EA would be considering score presentations were already in the game almost 10+ years ago. No disrespect to Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis but they've on this game since Madden 17, I've been able to go from High School to College and they're still on this game? Why isn't there more commentators working on this game? Is EA really that greedy? It's annoying to hear the same voices over and over again. I was really hoping for a change, but hope is something that EA corps like to suck out of you for profit.

    Functionality: 0/5: I'm always willing to give any brand new game the benefit of the doubt when it launches because bugs are always bound to occur. With this year giving EA even more time to develop their game, there should be absolutely ZERO excuses as to why this game is as broken as it is. On my first night of playing with my friend, we had to stop and restart our game 3 times because of how unplayable it is. This game has multiple game breaking bugs that prevent you from either finishing games or even getting to halftime without some gameplay-stopping glitch occuring in the process. Animation warps still occur, when I say that this game is NOT dependant on motion and physics, I mean it. This game will suck you into so many animation tackles that it ruins any chance of getting YAC plays, or even running the ball. Forget about using any team that doesn't have Escape Artist on the Quarterback, you will get sacked consecutively if you dare to move around or step up in the pocket. WR vs CB/FS/SS logic still isn't there, I played for around 10 hours this week and I found the receivers having a harder time trying to make big body catches, without getting warped into an animation that either gives the DB leverage over the receiver or gives them an automatic interception animation that clips through the receiver. Don't even bother to use TE's this year if they aren't above an 87+ rating, it feels like they are nonexistent giants when you try to throw to them. DB's are somehow still bullying TE's which makes no sense given the size differences. There should no excuse as to why this game is still running 2 different UI's in the background, it slows menu loading times by multiple seconds and makes everything harder to get through. The UI in Franchise is not only confusing but works against itself in the process - you could tell they copied NHL's layout in the past and threw it all together within a couple of months. That's not the dedication and honor that the EA Devs promised sports gamers a year ago.

    Please do not buy this game if you are not willing to review it and give it the criticism it deserves. It's abundantly clear that EA is not willing to make generation defying leaps with the hardware that this game is now on, nor are they willing to rebuild this game's engine from the ground up to make everything more versatile and better ran. EA is a stubborn company that will not fire it's bad employees because of how bad they've ran this franchise into the ground. Nobody who's a programmer or designer with a lick of common sense would want to enter it and I don't blame them. 0/10.    … Expand

We need to demand better from fans and let our voices be heard, this has to stop. EA has made 4 billion dollars from this game from ultimate team alone yet develop this game like they have a thousand dollar budget. Don’t bother buying this game or waiting for a update to fix one of the hundreds of issues this game has. My advice find a ps2 buy nfl 2k5 and enjoy a football game the way it’s suppose to be made. Madden gives the menus new coats of paint or just adds back one of 50 modes the ps2 games had. I won’t go into gameplay that much because I only get 5,000 characters and I would need at least 10,000 it’s that bad. Good luck throwing or running in this game, the defense is so overpowered you’ll throw at least 4 interceptions a game, the receivers are not aggressive at all and just stand there while defenders come snag the ball away, the players run and feel like there running in quicksand and haven’t had good animations. If you do win in the game madden will just give you a loss anyways. Technically you could throw one play touchdowns the entire game because the zones are completely broken. The players scans are awful there are some that are good but 90 percent bad. Franchise mode has zero to offer and I mean zero it’s the most basic mode I’ve ever seen this year but just wait for an update EA says like the whole game itself. 0/10 for my review, Sony and Xbox pull cyberpunk bc of glitches then this game has got to go as well because it worse please don’t waste your money… Expand

    Hot garbage. The game is progressively getting worse. So many glitches/bugs. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the studio and everyone in management of this game. They are clearly not competent enough to produce this product and should have the NFL rights to simulation games stripped since they elect not to make one anyway

    I played Madden 21 and had an OK time. This year they have completely broken zone coverage, adjustments to coverage, sped up the game so it is harder to user control, and basically destroyed any desire to play the game head to head. I am not buying and I will go waste my money on one of the broken indie knockoffs because at least I know my money is going to a company that is actually trying.

    I am currently into a half an hour of the 10 hour free trial I get by subscribing to your EA Access. I have played half a game that felt choppy and crash. I then have started a franchise for it to crash before I even start a game. Let's see how this game feels if it actually loads through a complete game. Now an hour in. Gameplay is slightly smoother but overall product is garbage. TooI am currently into a half an hour of the 10 hour free trial I get by subscribing to your EA Access.     I’m a franchise player. They have made some changes that I like to the mode but it’s just not enough to where I can honestly recommend spending your hard earned money on it yet. For how much money this company has I just expect more (even if I’d have to wait longer for a better product).

    I like many others could go on for days about things that could continue to be improved in this game, but one thing that has me quite annoyed it how contracts players have in real life aren’t ”in the game”. Pat Mahomes (the cover athlete) is signed for 10 years in real life but in the game he only has a 6 year contract (through 2027). I just don’t get it. This the only option for a simulation football game we have because EA cornered the market and they can’t even get the cover athletes contract right in the game!? I’ve never made a video game, but I can’t imagine it’s that hard to just have his contract set for 10 years or give us the ability as players to sign our franchise players for 10 years like the Mahomes deal.
    Like I said to start, it’s on the right path in regards to changes, it’s just not enough in my option to spend money on it yet.
    Wait another year at least and we’ll see what we have in regards to a product or what 2K sports will be able to create.    … Expand

After 21 had the free next gen upgrade, i thought it was a pretty solid upgrade considering it was free, but this is straight up another copy paste of last year's with new play art graphics and menu changes. Was really hoping that with the new consoles we were going to see a big leap in terms of graphics but nope, looks exactly the same. Never again until anotherBurned for the last time.     I have officially gone out of my way to register on metacritic to tell you this game is borderline unplayable… EA should be ashamed… I wasted money on this game and I regret every cent… the game play hasn’t changed in a decade… it’s next gen yet the graphics look like something from 2k back in 2006….     I am a long time Madden player, going back to Madden 94 on the Super Nintendo. I played every Madden before sitting out last year. I got a PS5 and decided to give Madden a shot this year. Mistake. This game is literally the worst football game I have ever played. And I played Full Impact on the PS1. The menus lag and are slow to navigate. I tried to play face of the franchise as a WR and I can’t even pull up the player card to see what my stats are, awards, or contract. On top of that the gameplay is terrible, the QB bullet passes everything and constantly gets picked off or takes a sack. The offense is just anemic, face of the franchise sucks. My player is glitched on face of the franchise, whenever I go to sprint he is stuck in this weird jogging animation where he moves slower than everybody on the field even though I’m the fastest player on the field after checking everyone’s ratings. If i had the chance to go back and not purchase this game, I would just stick with the dumpster fire that Madden 21 is.… Expand

    So I won't deep dive into Madden because I saved all my energy at the Greedy$$$$ NFL for their monopoly business practices. The NFL is most of the blame and don't respect their consumers in the Video Game world. The NFL fans has been begging the NFL to open the exclusive Licence so we can have choices,and alternative simulation football and what does the NFL do when it's time for EA to renewal their contract EA gives the NFL millions of Dollars and the NFL shuts the door on its own consumers like we never Existed. The NFL then tells it's Consumers after every renewal that they hear us loud and clear but EA is doing it's best for our own interest that's so BS I am very sure The NFL hears the complaints every year but they always choose to ignore it. Whoever works that NFL position that deals with video game Licenses should be fired immediately and hire someone else that cares about the consumers, Simulation football,and open the license so other companies cane make NFL simulation football

    This has got to be the biggest joke of a simulation football game. I just watched my players play fifa for 3 minutes before the ball went out of bounds. Players are hella animation dependant threw a pass to Julio only to have a 68 ovr corner make up 6 yards down the field to intercept the pass from a full sprint Julio madden is worse every year let’s hope they don’t mess up college football.

    Madden 22 is nowhere near where it needs to be. The only reason I bought it is because it's the ONLY NFL game available on current-gen consoles. It loads significantly slower than other PS5 games I play. EA needs to stop making Madden games.

    Barely any improvements from last year. Franchise mode still isn’t good. It would be nice to be able to restructure contracts and things of that nature. The game play is very similar to the last 3 years. Just not a big enough improvement to be worth $70. MUT is just pay to win and full of unreasonable price micro transactions. They should have just taken a year off and made a good game.

The gameplay is robotic and there are still way to many animations that break immersion. Madden 22 is nothing more than a cash grab IMO.

    The best Madden title there has been in the last 10 years. I really like the coaching trees, weekly game planning, home field advantage, and am looking forward to the new scouting system. It’s been years of trying and upgrading it, and it flat out sucks and makes the gameplay unrealistic. EA needs to move towards a physics based gameplay where a tank running back like Derrick Henry doesn’t get arm tackled by a scrawny LB who’s not even in range to make the play. Too many glitches and big plays ruined by the animation system. It sucks. Please move on. Features I’d like to see added in the following Maddens to come would be the ability to create your own team/stadium that has been offered before. Pre season mini camps with drills to earn XP, and more realistic officiating system that begins with adding refs onto the field and calling more unscripted timely penalties. The last major addition they NEED to add is making different broadcasts similar to MLB the Show. From my knowledge, EA owns the ESPN license. Make a freaking “Monday Night Football” broadcast with different layouts to simulate real prime time games and give that extra importance when playing in one. Golden opportunity. Overall I’m happy with the changes added but we’re still far away from seeing this games true potential. Don’t stop here, make the Madden we all deserve and want to see.… Expand

    It’s the same game as last year, the biggest improvement they’ve “added” to franchise isn’t even in the game yet. I offered my brother $1k to play in a franchise with me and his friends. He played one game, said it was awful and declined. By the time this company makes a good game who knows if we’ll even be into sports games anymore.     EA is a trash company. Madden is a trash game that has lived off MUT and predatory money making ways. They treat their consumers like a red headed stepchild and sheep still go out of their way to defend the game despite the obvious copy/paste and massive amount of bugs and glitches. If it wasn't for the NFL license this franchise would be dead.

    First of all, I‘d like to point out the positive fact, that EA has reacted to their community by apparently trying to improve their Franchise mode. Hashtags such as #fixmaddenfranchise were trending and it is good to see them actually responding to this.

    However, the only difference you can actually feel in this game, is the different layout of menus and little additions such as the homefield advantage. This community desperately asks for a more in depth customization of their playing experience. The staff options are decent, but they were not even among the top 5 additions, that this community frequently asks for. I understand that EA or the NFL has concerns about customization aspects, such as creating a team with jerseys or adding tattoos. Yet these are the little things, that are possible on a technical side and EA had this stuff in their games over a decade ago.

    To summarize my point: it‘s the same game as every year, with some different menus. The gameplay and graphics changes are hardly noticable. Their "additions“ simply can‘t change the fact, that you get bored after less then a single season in Franchise Mode. Safe your money guys and lets just hope that the upcoming NCAA will simply copy everything they had in 2014 with better graphics. It‘s sad, but that would already be a huge improvement compared to every Madden after Madden 25. And if there is one wish I can ask for:

    Keep those Madden developers as far away from the NCAA-game as possible. Please EA, just do it for your community. It will be worth it.    … Expand

    Franchise mode is finally good again. The gameplay is pretty much the same as Madden 21 next gen aside from the home field advantages, which I really enjoy. There's a lot more you can do in Superstar KO now. The Yard was pretty much ruined because you can no longer select your players, it gives you randomly selected players and you can't change your created player's height and weight toFranchise mode is finally good again.     Would've gave a 0 but to be fair they did add some changes to franchise mode. Not much, but hey its something. Gameplay is the same broken animation based system. Face of franchise pretty much sucks again. If your completely new to madden sure play it and might have fun but if you played any other madden, just stick to that.

    I've been playing Madden since it 1st came out and I must say that the moment NFL 2k came in to the picture for $20 I was hooked on the game play and the presentation. Then the contract came in to play so I've had no option to play another football game but Madden. I've purchased Madden every year up until a few years ago, I got it on PSN for free which was worth it. I've been purchasing Madden 100+ again this year on PS5 to notice its basically a tiny bit better than 21 which was NOT a sub part effort from EA. I've played MUT, FOF and CFM with that being my Fav and I've purchased the game for $117 to find out its not complete with features till September and most of the new features are from NHL and copied over to Madden. Unacceptable.. Game play is still scripted and at times I feel like I'm just going through the motions and the game will decide if I win or lose. The very first game I played was down 4 points with ball and 3 minutes left. I'm driving down the field and I'm in the zone and get in the the red zone. I audible a hot route to send my TE up the middle of the field as I notice the defense is in cover 2. The pass I throw is perfect, high lob pass to a wide open TE who beats the MLB covering the middle of the field and the SS who was covering my WR2 comes of him and out of no where closes the gap in which bring my TE in to this weird jump animation and tips the ball which was caught by TE in the end zone. Then the unthinkable happens, the MLB catches up to play and begins the tip drill suddenly there are 4 defenders around my once wide open TE and the ball actually hits the grass (I know this because I could only see half the on the ground in replay) and the SS who is in the air immediately reaches down in a cat like quickness to scoop the ball of the ground and you guessed it, it's a interception. I thought okay were good let's challenge the call no doubt they'll see in NY (wait that's not in the game... Yet..) this call will be overturned. It's locked? Oh wait it's under 2 minutes that's right the refs on the field {that are missing) had to see it or the booth will... Nope!! It's their ball the down it 3 times and I lose the game as well as dignity for buying this game and trying to give EA another opportunity to get it right. You got my money now give me a game that plays like real NFL Football. I basically bought the game to continue to play CFM with some friends in a 32 man lg which is fun but we have to wait till September to start so I'm stuck playing MUT which I absolutely hate. The grind is the same as last year just to get a couple decent cards and a few training points but if I spend a couple of $100 I can pull some **** cards which happened in Madden 20 so that was the last time I did that and Madden 21 a spent no money barely grinded and with a bunch of free packs everytime I logged in to MUT once or twice every month by the end of Madden 21 I ended up with a 94 overall team. MUT is the same as last year, I wish there was some incentive for players to not quit in Seasons H2H. I'm tired of playing kids who rage quit in the first quarter when I go up 7 points. Really? Kid if your reading this, your NEVER going to get better at the game if you can't learn to play defense against competitors who are better than you. Learn from your loss and figure out how to get better. Either way my score is a zero because I felt like that was the effort that EA made to come up with a fresh and improved simulation football game. Oh yeah, I also tried Face of the Franchise and playing the college was a waste of time and not a challenge and the story was no different then any other attempt you've made in the past and the Jags ended up with me and Trevor Lawrence as 2 first round picks? Oh well maybe I had an option somewhere to go to a different team of I didn't skip through the bull interactions but my character seemed to know he was going #1 no matter what. As for now my score will be 0 till the game gets patched 20 more times and the fix the game play and add the features that were expected this year and we'll see if it worth the $117 I spent, as of now it's a 0 just like the amount I should of paid for this game.     Let’s be realistic. For an annual sports franchise, it’s not necessarily practical to expect huge evolution year on year. It’s also fair to say that at a minimum, players should expect EA to deliver incremental quality of life improvements and make an effort to hone their overall experience of the game for the better. Whilst there is only so far the needle can be pushed year on year, the launch of a new Madden on next-gen systems presented EA with an opportunity to really raise the bar. That’s why it’s particularly disappointing that Madden 22 only offers stagnant content and, sadly, creative disinterest.

    Madden is as compelling as it ever was, but it can’t escape the slight feeling that things are spread a little too thin. Improvements to franchise mode are welcome and help the experience, but they are smaller than perhaps they deserve. With so many different ways to play football, it’s a little difficult to get in invested in any one game.
