Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged isn’t all that different from its predecessor, but it is bigger and better in just about every way. A brand new range of environments and additional vehicle types help to keep things feeling relatively fresh. And new event types are also very much welcome. It’s the new moves at your disposal that really elevate the experience, though. Being able to jump has allowed Milestone to get even more creative when it comes to track design, and it also adds yet more depth – you have to think more about how to use your boost. This is a very worthy sequel, then. It’s just a shame you can’t carry over your vehicles from the first game.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged significantly improves what was presented by its predecessor, introducing new mechanics that increase the fun without complicating the game's flow. The environments are well-created and have the necessary space to build tracks. However, they need to be more to exploit them fully. The number of cars is impressive and will excite Hot Wheels fans, but it is frustrating that the store rotates every so often, forcing you to wait a long time or spend points to find your favorite car. This title controls are so simple that even the little ones can have fun with it.

There is an admirable amount of customization that really cannot be understated. It has a superb track builder as well as a mindboggling amount of ways to customize your car, it is seriously impressive. These features are very much optional, leaving it to be something that you can pick up if you ever need a break from the racing. This is a really solid title that should be looked at by anyone who needs to scratch their racing game itch or anyone who is just a massive fan of the Hot Wheels franchise. There is an awful lot to do here, so those who commit to the game will be here a long time. This is a really solid game and worth checking out.

This game is better than the previous installment in every way thanks to its fine controls, many vehicles and customize options. It is also nice to see that the tracks offer more spectacle, but that doesn't mean everything is fantastic. For example, the open level races are not well designed and the story adds nothing at all. Also, certain obstacles in racing can completely take you out of the experience. Some blemishes on an otherwise fine racing game for young and old alike.

Milestone’s follow-up to 2021’s Hot Wheels Unleashed is a worthy successor, but the lack of the first game’s DLC cars is an uncomfortable sore spot.

And damn near every race did that; the close calls with difficult AI, the times I skimmed through each trap by the skin of my teeth, that extra-long drift into a straight where I thumped the boost. Every race made me feel excited or like I’d achieved a glimmer of brilliance. Because every race created ‘moments’.

Addressing almost all our criticisms of the previous title by adding impressive core mechanic modifications in the form of jumps, dashes, and new terrains, removing loot boxes, and adding obstacle immunity skills, Milestone has created a fantastic follow-up arcade racer to be reckoned with.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is a fuller gaming experience compared to its previous game. However, for better or worse, it's still almost identical to its predecessor.

Unleashed 2 evolves pretty much every single aspect of the original, and, whilst it is not a drastic changes, it polishes an already great formula for racing fans.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged improves on its predecessor with refinements on the track and new modes. The multiplayer portion has had an overhaul with new modes that take advantage of new mechanics to offer more variety. However, the small number of environments is still an issue and makes the different tracks feel too familiar. Milestone sticks to what worked which results in a very similar experience. While it does improve on the original, it doesn’t add enough to make its way up the podium.

There’s a game in here that is easy to wholeheartedly recommend, but it’s caked in so much garbage that you really have to ask a lot of questions about what you want from it, about what you’re willing to put in.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is great fun in short bursts. The chaotic energy, ridiculous car designs, new abilities and commitment to the miniature racing aesthetic make for a bombastic racing experience, for a while. The campaign storyline left me cold, and the freedom to screw up might be fun in a silly multiplayer session but becomes annoying solo. The sheer amount of track and car customisation options should at least add longevity to the online multiplayer experience.

The return of Hot Wheels has brought with it mixed results. The racing action is undeniably exciting and pulse-quickening, which correlates wonderfully with the nostalgia of using the real-life playsets, and the are plenty of models to collect that you’ll feel spoilt for choice. However, Turbocharged is weighed down by overfamiliarity, unambitious race modes, on-track frustrations, and a sense not enough has been done to evolve this sequel. On a base-level, Turbocharged is a pleasure to play, but Milestone should try to stop toying around with this franchise, it’s got the va-va-voom to be something special, but unfortunately Turbocharged isn’t quite it.

If you’re looking to try and live out that experience then this will do you well, but if you’re someone who played the first and is looking to see what’s up with the newest edition, you might fall flat at the starting line.

It is evident that Milestone thought of it as a casual arcade racing game that you can enjoy in challenges with your friends to spend a time full of laughter and chaotic fun. Unfortunately, this good foundation suffers from a completely soulless and generic track design that you'll quickly forget.

Hardcore Hot Wheels fans will get the most out of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, but even casual racing game fans will have a lot of fun with the game. Not everything clicks, and the game could have benefited greatly by having more variety with its track environments, but Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is an exciting racer with a great set of creation tools that should keep fans busy for quite some time.

With new vehicle types, environments and driving mechanics, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is the ideal arcade racer for the young and the nostalgic veteran alike.

However, if you look a little closer, you can see that some of the game’s paint is peeling due to the janky nature of its gameplay elements and its over-reliance on player speed rather than quality tracks. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is full of charm but fans of racing games may feel that this isn’t enough for them to stick around and get turbocharged with Hot Wheels cars.

With more Hot Wheels cars and tracks, Unleashed 2 is an obvious sequel that does not bring anything particularly new to a game that had so much potential but also numerous problems that haven't been addressed yet.
