It was a great adventure from start to finish...Short but intense, straight to the point. The last MASTERCLASS mission made me understand the : PS5 Only...Because unfortunately, apart from the last mission, I personally didn't feel any "Next-gen" difference, because the base game is already MAGNIFICENT. BRIEF: Go for it if you've got a PS5, and it's short!

Personally I enjoyed the DLC. For the prize of a medium pizza I got a bunch of new enemies to fight, new weapons, a new storyline, felt good to me. I’ve seen some people complaining about the zenith weapon, but personally I like it. It’s got cheap, fast-firing explosive ammo, so obviously it doesn’t hit too hard, but it pairs well with plasma weapons in my experience, plus it looks really cool.
I particularly enjoyed the final battle against the Horus, what a spectacle!
I didn’t expect more content than I received for this amount of money, frankly I expected a lot less, so a big thanks to the dedicated team that made this game. Hope you’re still enthusiastic about the series, and I hope you receive more positive feedback in the future. (Seriously though, the series Already included cross dressers, but one, optional kiss, at the end of the battle, after hours of being too stoic to say anything directly, no, that was too much??)
Docked a few points because as much as I like this series, I experienced some apparent bugs with tear damage, but this was patched, great, thank you! But there was an annoying trend with an apparent biased towards female representation, which I first noticed in the second game. Don’t get me wrong, strong female characters are great, but we need strong male characters too. The balance felt off is all, but perhaps that was just a coincidence. Either way, the overall experience was lovely, thank you.

A bit of a let down. The expansion felt very brief compared to Frozen Wilds. There were almost no side quests and Aloy wasn't given a lot of reason to discover the area outside of the main mission. I initially liked that the game takes away your ability to fly at the start. I thought that would give me a reason to explore on foot and use the pretty cool boat you were provided. However,A bit of a let down. The expansion felt very brief compared to Frozen Wilds. I thought that would give me a reason to explore on foot and use the pretty cool boat you were provided. However, access to flight was restored pretty much right away - leaving you with a very easy access to the whole area at once and a way out of every tough situation. Having flight access early on took something away from the game.
The new enemies were mostly annoying. The new Waterwing was very similar to the Sunwing, but with the hit point of a Horus. I did not enjoy fighting a herd of scrawny water chickens for 45 minutes.
The new area was of course very pretty, but it also felt rather empty as the lack of quests just prompted you to fly around and make landing at interesting spots. The shores didn't feel cohesive due to the easy availability of flight.
The main story felt rather tacked on and devoid of nuance. A Zenith got away from Aloy at the conclusion of the Forbidden West. He is a corporate bastard who just wants to destroy things. I was very surprised at the plot being so simplistic. Since there is a great risk of the world being destroyed, couldn't we at least have a discussion about sending an ark off into the starts to preserve a sliver of mankind? Aloy is so determined to destroy the Zenith that she doesn't even stop to think that maybe it isn't such a bad idea to have an ark, in case everything doesn't work out with Nemesis. Just find a better launch site and let the Zenith take some willing followers to the starts? What's the problem, really?
The final boss fight was awesome visually, but fairly clunky in execution.
Most of the new weapons and armors were not very useful. For instance, the new hunter bow provided by the expansion didn't have any basic arrows, so each arrow fired would cost 10 metal shards. If I had gone that route, I would have had to stop to farm for shards. I ended up keeping my hunter bow from the main game.
It was a somewhat fun diversion. A brief revisit with Aloy. But compared to the Frozen Wilds, which felt like a big and well crafted expansion, Burning Shores felt very brief.
I played the expansion on Ultra Hard and found it to not be very challenging.

    Pros
    + Graphics are amazing
+ New, visually attractive area to explore, with lava, and almost pirates of Caribbean feel to it.
+ Some side stories are fun and each of them is different.
+ Core mechanics are still super fun to play. Especially that we can use our flying machine almost from the start.
    + Truly epic final boss...

    Cons
    – ... that is too epic for this short side quest. Seriously, it is more of an epic boss fight than the finale of the main game.
    – The new region feels empty. Nothing is drawing to explore it beyond our curiosity (and need for 100%). No rumors, very little side quests. If you want more content from this DLC, you need to find it.
    – The story is weak. It feels like this time is more about "shy Aloy trying to ask Seyka for a date" than about defeating the antagonist. And the romance is not well done. It is cringy. The antagonist is also not much of a threat (he just kidnaps few people) until the end when everything blows to a major boss fight out of a blue.
    – The DLC is short. Expect around 10 hours to 100% it.

Overall, I don't recommend this DLC. The main game is enough this time.

Talanah who she bonds with since zero dawn is hundreds time better, there's also petra, beta, alva, even regalla would probably be better, that's how forced seyka is, other thant that, main villan is basically "Big company capitalism bosses all bad, came back do bad things, defeated" repeated again, no more words can say.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Idk why people are losing their minds about Aloy being gay. I mean you literally have a choice to say no thanks. Either way I loved the game and the story line. The graphics are amazing. Plus as a gay lady I’m in love with that fact that Aloy has a little gf. Can all the people who are bashing Aloy for being gay not ruin the game for everyone else please? I mean one comment said “don’t teach kids gays are normal” that’s just…. Honestly I have no words for that. As someone who went through so much crap in life just because of who I liked, watching and playing this game actually helped me and made me so happy. There is nothing wrong with Aloy being gay. Love is love, it’s okay to be gay, if y’all don’t like the fact that Aloy can be gay then just choose the nope option and move on. Either way, amazing game loved both of them plus their individual DLCs. Game people keep up the good work. Don’t let these people ruin it for the ones that 1. Love that Aloy is gay or 2. Don’t really care who she likes. People can have their opinions but my question is why do a it matter if Aloy is gay. There are very few gay character out there for gay gamers to play. Most games that are not “choose your own character” you play as a straight man or a straight woman. Straight people are everywhere in games. For once I’m proud that we have a strong leading lady who just so happens to like a strong lady. I’m not say that those games are bad.
But to me, everyone is saying that “ oh it was such a good game and they threw that all away” based only on the fact that Aloy is gay. If I’m interpreting these comments correctly y’all are saying that being gay is not okay. You loved the game UNTIL aloy kisses a girl? But you’re not against gay people? I don’t like to throw out the word homophobic casually but that’s what looks to be happening in this comment section. Anyone who's played all the games, and watched her speak with men, we all saw this coming. Especially after Forbidden West with the zenith. Not to mention Ashly Burch, the voice actor, is openly queer and had a track record of playing queer women in games and animation.

I loved Forbidden West. It was such a well done game so I had pretty high expectations. From the get go it seemed that Ally’s character was completely different in and her dialogue reflected a lack of skill and effort. It just felt like they slapped a lot of this one together as it wasn’t half as deep or immersive as forbidden west. Very shallow.

"Burning Shores" é um simulador de degeneração. Motiva e defende actos degenerados, completamente contra a Natureza.

I'm part of the lgbtq community, and even I was starting to feel weird about how there are very few honorable male characters, and how there are so many lesbian characters. So, many side quests had lesbian characters. It's not even representational of life.
Then the ending seriously threw me off, cause it just felt so out of place. There was no real story development for that love scene in the end. It seriously felt like they just threw it in to make 'woke' quota deadlines. if the 'woke' crap was just better written it would be so much more accepted, but at this point, it's really becoming a problem in ruining the art of storytelling. I can't wait for this ridiculous fad to end. Unfortunately, so many of the stories we hold so dear will be ruined by the time that happens.

Just everything is good about this DLC. Like frozen wilds … it is kinda better even than main game because main game is… too big. And if someone has problems with her sexuality… I mean it was obvious that she is gay even before and it just fits her well. Highly recommend even if , like me, you struggled a bit to finish main game (it was also elden ring time!)

In Forbidden West, she discovers that she needs people by her side, as she realizes she cannot achieve her goals without firm alliances, so she leaves the lonely exiled warrior behind and begins to allow people to enter her life.

But now, Guerrilla, since the next step you want in Aloy's development is 'romance', Aloy's relationship with another character, you better build into Aloy's story a way for players to choose who she's going to be with relate, or with a man, or with a woman, or remain without any relationship. Don't just stick to romance with Seyka, include a male character as an option and let the players choose. This same-sex relationship privileged and pleased only one side, a specific audience.
This has generated enough controversy, caused a lot of disappointment and discussions, it's time to make some change. It's not just any build that players expect to see from Aloy.

Otherwise, you can ruin such a beautiful game and character, as many people did not sympathize with the way this construction of the character Aloy was done, which only pleased a minority and not all players.

Because of that, my rating is 4!

Aloy is out of character with this reveal: devs care too much about character's sexuality, but can't write a decent story. That's what all modern western AAA entertainment industry is about.

The expansion was fun. I had to explore the ruins of Los Angeles (way North of Disneyland in Anaheim). Defeated Darth Maul who is a Far-Zenith, and find the missing tribespeople, the Quen. I met a Quen marine, and her name was Seyka, played by Kylie Liya Page. She is an awesome character who helped Aloy. Big thanks to Guerrilla for their hard work on this expansion.

In the end, Burning Shores is incredibly easy to recommend. If you enjoyed Forbidden West or if you’re invested in the Horizon series’ larger story and where it’s headed, the expansion feels unmissable almost to a surprising degree, thanks to its strong story, how well it sets up the future, and the introduction of a great new character in Seyka. All of that is backed up by more exciting combat, engaging open world exploration and traversal, and stellar graphics. The end result? An excellent package that almost feels like it’s too good to be DLC.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never ever pre-order games, especially in the last few years, but I pre-ordered this one. I have loved the horizon franchise ever since I first played it (years after everyone else) and knowing a DLC was coming had me SO excited. I loved the exploration, the small fixes for quality of life and the storyline-- especially the romance!! In the first game, romance wasn't something I could see for Aloy since she had so much growth to do as a person, but through the second game and now this DLC, we see her begin to yearn for those connections she never had. To consider them even with everything pressing down around her was so amazing. And the fact that she's confirmed queer (something I pretty much knew from the start) was even better! To have a strong female protagonist who is unapologetically herself was amazing to experience, and makes me as a queer person feel more seen than ever before. If you haven't played this game yet, RUN to get it! You won't regret it. Expand

HZD was my all-time favorite game, and its DLC was really excellent. I was disappointed with HFW because they went for quantity over quality with the weapons, outfits, skill trees, all the crazy keystroke combos to do moves, the valor surges, horse races, and arenas. Jeez!

Burning shores is fun in that you get some new missions to do in the world, but it's mostly just more of the same.

Burning shores is fun in that you get some new missions to do in the world, but it's mostly just more of the same. This time I didn't feel compelled to try to use those crazy moves so I ended up choosing a subset of weapons and blowing the rest off. The quests were not that interesting, there were not enough side quests, and the villain and his big machine were not very special either.

From her first introduction, I thought Seyka was whiny and annoying. It's unrealistic that Aloy would fall for a random, somewhat unpleasant person like her. Not once did I see anything she did that would have attracted Aloy. So that was just another disappointment. Totally fine that she's a woman, but there was almost zero character development.

So, meh on this one. But I'll probably still play a next one, if there is a next one. Why? I guess because I still get some HZD vibes here and there. Maybe they'll improve in the future...

They used such a minor character that we have just learned about for her to fall in love with rather than someone who everyone has known for ages, like Erend and Sun King Avad. Players learn that Aloy is gay or bisexual and there are indeed people in 2023 who have a big problem with that. Although more time or development should be taken for the romance, this DLC was still an extremely strong typical Horizen experience. The graphics and everything that goes with it is just S Tier. The DLC is among the most beautiful games you can find. The end game really shows what the PS5 is capable of. True next gen experience. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores provides a decent chunk of new content to the base game, adding a little bit of everything to the already expansive sequel. While Burning Shores possesses its own draws and identity, it also mirrors the previous game’s expansion—The Frozen Wilds, in many ways.

Similar to The Frozen Wilds, this expansion adds:
    -- A level cap increase from 50 to 60
-- A sizeable new region to explore with a distinct theme (volcanic archipelago)
-- A handful of main quests and side quests, with a focus on one of the tribes from the base game
-- Multiple new skills and valor surges (two skills and one valor surge per skill tree)
-- An expansion of Aloy’s spear capabilities and new techniques (including new tools)
-- A couple new enemy types (with apex variants for two of the machines)
-- Additional machine sites for some of the best enemies from the base game
-- A new cauldron to override, along with a couple other returning activities and arena challenges
-- A few new collectibles and many new data points
-- A handful of new outfits and several new weapons, coils, and weaves (all have legendary rarity)
-- A new resource type (for trade and upgrades)

Following the conclusion of Horizon Forbidden West, this expansion sees Aloy travel to the titular Burning Shores, where a new threat awaits. Along the way, the expansion introduces some new characters and companions, while setting the stage for the next chapter of the series.

    The Pros:
-- The map has a distinct look and feel overall, offering an added focus on using both the skies and the sea.
-- The number of added activities and collectibles is not overwhelming, but rather feels like the right amount for an expansion of this size
-- While there is only a handful of quests, each one is memorable and offers a worthwhile reward.
-- The primary draw of this expansion—an epic battle against a reactivated Horus/Metal Devil—lives up to the expectation and takes advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5, while offering a glimpse into what the future of the series may be able to offer.
-- Most of the new skills and valor surges are useful and offer additional variety to the combat.
-- There is a surprisingly large amount of legendary weapons, coils, and weaves in the expansion, these are all welcome additions, especially the coils and weaves.
-- Upgrades for the new outfits and weapons also have more feasible requirements, with more variety to what parts are needed, and most of which are located on the new map (no fireclaw sac webbing, slaughterspine circulators, stormbird storm cannons, or slitherfang earthgrinders are needed).
-- The new cauldron is expansive, and like the cauldrons from the base game, it offers its own unique exploration challenge
-- The primary new machine and its respective apex variant are both exciting opponents and a welcome addition to the already impressive enemy roster
-- The expansion uses certain machines in some rather surprising and refreshing encounters throughout the map

    The Cons:
-- While I would say this is only a minor critique, the use of the Los Angeles setting could have been taken better advantage of with more recognizable locations and unique setpieces
-- There is no Tallneck machine to override, and the map is simply unfogged using normal traversal
-- The functionality of the new Waterwing machine could have been used to better effect, either as just an upgrade to the existing Sunwing, or perhaps turned into a completely original machine with expanded incentive to explore underwater (maybe a submarine of some sort, used to explore underwater relic ruins or hunt Tiderippers)
-- The inclusion of the new skiff vehicle and geysers are nice additions, but feel mostly unnecessary other than used for specific circumstances
-- The new resource, brimshine, is overused for anything concerning the new legendary gear (outfit and weapon upgrades, and trading for coils and weaves)

Burning Shores offers more of what made Horizon Forbidden West successful, while also providing some new opportunities to refresh the gameplay. Although there are a few things that could have been developed further, this expansion boasts a solid helping of content that is worth checking out after completing the base game. For any interested returning players or newcomers, I recommend picking this up with the base game for the complete Forbidden West experience.

A more mature response would have been to either say ‘Oh, well, that’s not what I’d hoped for but it’s a great expansion pack and I really enjoyed playing it’ or if that wasn’t possible for the individual than at least a ‘I don’t like this so I won’t play it’ response. ***eyeroll*** Expand

I draw a direct comparison with the third part of the film adaptation of The Last of Us. It is only to be despised, with what one is harassed here. Is this also the case with Guerrilla Games? I hope this disrespect has a negative financial impact on the developers. Expand

The first game was ok, but it shows that they changed the writer, all the dlc doesn't make sense, Aloy instead of improving, seems out of character. The missions are poorly scripted.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is visually the best game I have ever played, and in terms of gameplay, it is enjoyable for me, although it may not be for everyone. But the story is the biggest weakness of the game, and I don’t think the story will be great in Someone’s opinion and it may just be the difference between those who say it’s mid and those who say it’s bad. But in different ways, this game completely shows off the power of the 9th generation console.

Burning Shores is definitely worth a visit. The story builds nicely, the side quests have nice depth, and Aloy and Seyka may end up forming something more than just a friendship. The question is whether a little more content could have been added. After all, it's all stuff we've seen before. [Issue#327]

Seyka is a welcome addition to Aloy’s allies. However the DLC shows no intention of escaping the science fantasy nonsense the base game mired itself in. [Issue#28, p.88]
