Mar 31, 2023GrimGrimoire OnceMore is not a game for everyone. Even if you’re a fan of Vanillaware’s other works, this title’s gameplay approach is distinct, comprising a continual cycle of inevitable failure and growth that is not an all-pleasing cup of tea. Still, for those who manage to get into it, this is an addictive strategy RPG with numerous in-depth systems that make progress an always enjoyable affair. And the story is quite compelling, with an intriguing cast bolstered by a charming protagonist who you’ll find yourself rooting for. By the end, you’ll be wondering where all those hours went.

Mar 31, 2023GrimGrimoire OnceMore is an excellent remaster of a hidden gem from the PS2 era that finally gets the chance to receive the attention it deserves. Its 2D RTS system works exceptionally well and its story is as good as its gameplay.

Apr 11, 2023GrimGrimoire rises from its ashes, picking up and greatly improving a product that initially showed Vanillaware's inexperience in the RTS sector. It's still not perfect, but console-powered real-time strategy fans will hardly find better at the moment.

Apr 2, 2023GrimGrimoire OnceMore effectively rescues a beautiful and ambitious, albeit limited in scope game from the PS2 era to immortalize it on current platforms. Vanillaware's experiment in 2D RTS remains as charming as it was back in the day, but thrives with OnceMore's resolution bump.

Mar 31, 2023GrimGrimoire OnceMore immerses us in a magical combined world of strategy and tower defense. The story is captivating because for its twists thanks to the interpretations of the actors behind the characters. The battle system can be overwhelming but we can master it with patience. It has the usual additions of the remasters that make it a more acceptable game.

Apr 26, 2023GrimGrimoire OnceMore serves as a solid remaster with a fantastic visual upgrade and new gameplay additions. Some control issues and repetitive gameplay hold it back but overall is a good strategy sim with an alluring setting.

Apr 7, 2023Except for the fascinating artistic component, which starting from that distant 2007 would become Vanillaware's trademark, GrimGrimoire OnceMore is an imperfect product and not quite worthy of the fame that the Japanese developer enjoys today, also because the reissue has retained most of the defects found in the original. However, since this is one of his very first works, we recommend its recovery not so much for RTS enthusiasts, who may find it too short and shallow, but for fans of George Kamitani and his incredible team of artists.

Apr 4, 2023I mostly enjoyed GrimGrimoire OnceMore and it still looks lovely but at the same time, its gameplay isn't all that involving, especially after you master the basics which doesn't take all that long.

Apr 19, 2023I have to admit how pleasantly surprised I was by how much I enjoyed my time with GrimGrimoire OnceMore. I didn’t anticipate how much I would love the game’s overall atmosphere and real-time strategy combat. It’s also appreciable that the game doesn’t outstay its welcome, clocking in just shy of ten hours, though this can vary based on the difficulty and how much of the trial content is completed. It’s definitely not a game for everyone, but it has such a unique charm to it that it’s worth checking out.

Mar 31, 2023If you’re into RTS games, I’d definitely consider this but maybe not at the expense of more well-established titans of the genre.

Mar 31, 2023Vertical 2D battles in a giant tower are a great USP, but GrimGrimoire can’t reach the pinnacle with a battle system more bloated and complex than fun. Vanillaware’s beautiful signature artwork and clever narratives are as ageless now as they were back in 2007, but some design choices leave a bitter aftertaste.
