Much improved game from GT Sport. It gets you the some of the feelings of GT2 and 3 with the tune shop and used car lot. The nostalgia and pride of working through races to get the car of your dreams is something special.

This is simple best racing game on consoles. Btw anybody giving 0/10 or talking about microtransactions know nothing, game has no issue with economy after April patch as you can earn plenty money in circuit experience, human comedy missions, time trials every 2 weeks etc. (btw I platinumed this game with 0 grinding)

Wonderful game, but not perfect.Online mode does not cost money, you can only use the designated race group vehicles, even if there is no need to worry, you can rent a car with the same performance as the vehicle you bought for free. This game is suitable for players who like racing, like to grind laps, you need to be patient to play.

I have played every Gran Turismo game since GT1 on PS1. in my opinion this is the best game in the series I wish it wasn’t always online and that you earned more credits for races. But despite that the car handling and physics are great highly recommend this game for any racing fans out there

Especially with the always changing weekly events in multiplayer, and the league system. I can't see anything missing here. This reminds me so much to the good old GT 2 days on my PS1.

The multiplayer is leagues above what I experienced with Forza 7, due to the penalty and ranking systems in place. It is just enjoyable!

One point less for the integration of microtransactions and the tickets, which gave me always the lowest price so far, but until now I have no issues whatsoever with just ignoring microtransactions. The game works just fine without considering these.

As the game stands now, though, I think it is an amazing game for race/driving simulations. I ended up completing the game 100% and obtaining the platinum trophy because it was so much fun. The driving is smooth, the races are generally just challenging enough to make them exciting (unless you use and develop an OP car), and the graphics are amazing. The license tests are super challenging but rewarding if you are willing to put in the time. The one thing that set me off a bit from the game was the online mode which has an imperfect penalty system which can easily cost a spot or 2. In addition to that, the player base (especially at the lower levels where I am) can be pretty toxic, which is not necessarily the games fault. Overall great game, now that the microtransactions are better. Expand

I'm going to alter my review, because of the changes in 1.11. The economy part of this game has certainly been fixed. You can now actually collect the cars. I will leave the original review for history though. I originally rated a 2 because of the glaring problems, and pushing of microtransactions.

I will leave the original review for history though. I originally rated a 2 because of the glaring problems, and pushing of microtransactions.

The downtime doesn't help matters, which at the current time of writing is over 24 hours though there may be extenuating circumstances for this, there has been almost no communication on why everything is dead now, it has bought up a glaring issue, if Polyphony Digital has server issues this extensive, it probably means all their servers are in one place.

Secondarily, and more importantly, they have created a car collecting game, but it is very difficult to get actual credits in the game to buy the cars. They nerfed the one semi decent way to get some. Don't worry, you can just buy them on the PS store... assuming you want to spend a couple of grand to collect all the cars

Even the roulette, which itself is just a lootbox, nearly always gives you the most pitiful reward on offer, of which often one of those is a time limited invitation to spend 1-5 million credits, which won't be helped by the roulette giving you 5000/10000 credits about 90% of the time. Used cars in the game have prices through the stratosphere. You cannot sell cars you own, and you do occasionally get duplicates also, so you cannot even recycle credits that way.

The menu books also run out very early, and you don't need any license over A, so it feels like the game is massively unfinished.

The mechanics and racing is actually really fun though, even though the AI are as dumb as a bag of hammers on a special bus, but as it stands I can't actually play the single player because apparently since after GT Sport they decided it would make sense to completely make the single player unavailable offline.

It's a really fun game, when it works, and you're not actually invested in collecting the cars, but they are losing so many points for this £70 game and nickle and diming the players for credits so we want to spend on microtransactions.

And for me, with my terrible skillz, quite challenging. The addition of the menu books provides a nice kind of story to follow along and progress slowly but surely. When you've done that, you have some nice cars, a bit of money and are ready to collect more cars. If you spend time getting to know the tracks (since update 1.11 also making you money), you will get better and better. Which is good, because online racing is also nice to do.

All in all, this is a great racing game. It has that old GT feeling, at least for me, some of the old tracks are back and look better than ever. The cars handle great (for the most part) or you can tune them to make them at least drivable.

EDIT: the only really annoying thing are the tickets. Why do I only win the lowest possible cash prize?

While not the very pinnacle of GT games in terms of innovation and content, the game is nowhere near the two-point-average it has. If all the emotional zero-pointers would try to rate a little more objective and all the fan-boys trying to compensate for the review-bombs too, score would be around seven or eight i guess. I give it an eight. Cause that is what it really deserves. IWhile not the very pinnacle of GT games in terms of innovation and content, the game is nowhere near the two-point-average it has. License tests and missions are challenging and fun for the most part.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off, I'm a big fan of the Gran Turismo series, so I was hyped to see this game release on the PS4 (I don't have the PS5). There's been 8 years between GT6 and GT7, and 4 years between GT Sport and GT7, so Polyphony had to show something for that time.

Pros: The driving physics are completely revamped, and feel far more realistic than GT Sport. No traction control on cars are bearable, curbs are a concern, wet weather driving is wonderful, etc. It definitely brings the Gran Turismo series closer towards proper sim racing games like Asseto Corsa. Progression is gradual, and you aren't handed a supercar from the start (unlike Forza). The used car dealership is a really nice addition, as well as the legendary dealership (with real-life pricing from Hagerty, which I'll get into later). There are some license tests that carry difficulty (e.g. final tests from License A and up, especially the final license of the game), the AI has been dramatically improved and are quite competitive at times. Not all the tracks have wet weather, but for the ones that does, it is wonderfully done. You'll have to worry about aquaplaning, tire grip, etc. The realism was increased a lot for GT7.

Cons: The car list can be a bit sparce. Besides the 324 cars coming from GT Sport, only about 100 or so more were added to GT7. It's a far cry from even the 700 or so that were in GT4, which feels a bit of a letdown, but at the same time these cars are given far more quality than ever. Also, with the car list, car dealerships (including the Legendary one) needs to rotate far more often. There's too many cars locked away with a slow moving dealership. Then there's three big cons:

Microtransactions and online-only. The microtransactions are overblown in the media, they aren't that bad. You can still easily grind a lot of money to buy new, fancy cars. Going back to Hagerty-pricing, while I find it interesting, I can understand some finding it frustrating. It just means you'll need to grind more for cars, which I'm not entirely angry for since grinding for unique cars has been a thing even back in Gran Turismo 4 days. None of these really-expensive cars are necessary to be competitive, they're more or less trophies for your hard work.
What scares me more is online-only. Because Polyphony has a habit of shutting off servers for old Gran Turismo games, I'm afraid that either Polyphony would need to maintain servers no matter what, or GT7 would be essentially gone in the dust once its lifecycle is gone.

I know menus are practically career mode for GT7, but there needs to be more in the game once all the menus are complete. What happened to the A-Spec/B-Spec championships that were around for GT5/GT6? The missions are pretty nice, but besides that, there's a lack of content beyond the menus. I hope future updates rectify this.

Overall it is an excellent game. There are notable flaws, but that's just expected with new games nowadays. Game-as-a-service business model has taken over and GT7 needs to adapt to survive. It needs microtransactions because $60/$70 for a AAA game is becoming unfeasible, but raising these prices would cause hell with consumers, which is why game prices has been so stagnant since the 90s. And within the changing market, it's a way for not only Polyphony to make more profit but to survive in a cutthroat market space.
