Avoid this "thing" at all cost.
Poor graphics, poor realism and it just exists for generating even more money from micro transactions.
And this is a flagship game... LMAO.

The game is fantastic until you hit the gr3 cups. THIS IS NOT a race game but a shoot'em up. The leader goes free nad 14 bodyguards try to block you.
Uninstalled all gT games, never to bother again. Such a huge HUGE dissapointment. Without these cups game is fine though.

    However

    - who in the heck decided that you are forced to watch some annoying intro video for 10 minutes before you can play? Really? WTF?
    - Basic UI/UX designer has been probably on vacation during the whole development. I've never seen so much menu diving and so horrible user interface on any game. Why do I have to go through multiple screens every time if I want to tune my car or even buy tuning parts when tuning? Where are all the shortcuts?
    - Why in the heck is the replay always the default option and I had to do multiple presses instead of just going forward? And no, I really don't want to look at replay of those license training sessions where I just accelerate and brake
    - There is always too much screens and all other crap than just driving, you will spent as much time on the menu diving as driving the cars.
    - and of course the worst part: - forced online so they can disable the game from you when they want to and also force you to make micropayments if you want to use this as a normal game.

Avoid and wait for better games that actually concentrates on driving and not annoying users.

I played it in VR, really liked it, so purchased a 2nd hand racing rig/wheel which elevated it to a completely new level. NEVER have a enjoyed a real racing game like this. Progression seemed good at the start, unlocked a few of my fave cars ever early on ... then a few hours later I was persusing the Legends Garage and saw a beaut of a car ... with an eye-watering 20,000,000 credits price tag??!!! Hmm ... surely an oversight/typo/bug?? Ive noticed these 60 minute races for 1,000,000 credit prizes.... so i'd need to race 20hrs of these extended sessions to afford ONE car!!!??? I then innocently noticed the credits "top-up" option next to my total credits. Ah ... a convenient (and obviously affordable way) to purchase vehicles without grinding ..... HANG ON - SOMETHINGS SCREWY HERE!!! £15.99 FOR 2,000,000 CREDITS!!@@**???? So to buy that single 20,000,000 piece of CAR SOFTWARE "DLC" with real money would cost me £160 quid OR almost an entire day of racing non-stop for TWENTY HOURS!! I LOVED this game, I adored collecting all the cars, viewing all my dream cars in the VR showroom and it actually got me HOOKED on a racing sim for the first time in my life. Im now realising that this is nothing more than a sinister, cynical, anti-consumer, greedy, rip off .... tailored to perfection to get kids spending more money than the £70(!!!) the actual game costs in the first place!! The enjoyment I got from collecting the cars has dwindled as I realise I dont have the time or REAL money to acquire anywhere near the % of cars that would be satisfying.
AND THOSE SCAMMING PRE-DETERMINED ROULLETTE TICKETS!!! You should have 1/5th of a chance of getting the best prize every time. The game seems to have already decided to ALWAYS give you THE WORST PRIZE. You cant even press a button to tell it when to slow down which would make it fairer. Instead, the game forces you to watch on helplessly and hopelessly as you get repeatedly shafted! Just got a 6 STAR (no less) ROULLETTE TICKET tonight .... my prize ... a shaft (the irony) rod for a crappy Mazda I dont own with a value of (wait for it) .... 4,500 CREDITS!!! Thats a 6 STAR PRIZE!!!??? Somethings gone awry with this nonsense. I will keep playing as I do enjoy the racing, which is probably BEST IN CLASS, even though I know the rewards will be scant and i'll never get the enjoyment I should have got from it. Ive given it 3 star and that seems very high and overly generous compared to the 2.2 average score. Never have I felt so elated AND disappointed by a game before. Shame on the greedy, cynical fat cats who designed this cash grab of a business model. Hope you choke on it!!!

    This is a 70$ AAA pay-to-win only-online singleplayer game.

The driving feels nice, the models are looking good and i like the tracks.
But that doesn't matter because the game's economy is to broken to have fun with the game.

You expect the developers to pick up where they left off with 4 since it was way ahead of its time, some consider GT4 the best racing game ever) This gaming franchise is evolving backwards. It’s embarrassing that the developers or the creator doesn’t acknowledge the fans and take feedback. With myself having 700 hours in this game. All you can do after finishing the game is grind 3 damm tracks for the rest of this games life span just to collect some dumb cars that aren’t even drivable on any grind race track. The cars worth 20million is worth hours of valuable time, which people don’t have. Don’t do the same mistake of wasting 700 hours of your life for a game not even the developers care for. They worked so hard licensing cars and tracks just for them not to be used or enjoyed, every detail is wasted because your main focus is to get as much credits on the highest paying race track, the easiest being LeMan. They promised more endurance races for each track in the game but received none. The development team make the most easiest tasks the hardest thing ever. Expand

I'm really disappointed with the game.

First: Why impose a mandatory connection on us to play solo?

    It's dishonest and scandalous.

Second: micro transactions and draws with tickets are rigged. We never have a good reward.

Third: The lack of variety circuits in the city like Paris, London, New York... no circuit on the snow...

But GT7 managed to do something that no other game did: it made me so angry due to several issues. First, there's the connectivity problem. Even when playing in solo mode, it forces you to stay connected to the internet.
They created various car categories, but there isn't a specific championship for them, which means you end up wasting money unnecessarily. And there's no option to create races of a specific class.
When I say they only want professionals, try taking on the Nurbürgring challenge. I guarantee you'll end up driving over three hundred kilometers just to complete it. Want an even more challenging task? Try the one-hour mission at Lago Maggiore. But before you judge me and say I don't know how to play, disconnect your steering wheel and accessories and try to complete the races using just the controller. The game punishes you if you miss a braking point.
I bitterly regret spending my money on Gran Turismo 7. I uninstalled it from my console and went back to Sport, although it has its flaws, they're not as glaring as those in GT7. I wouldn't recommend it!!!

    2) The ridiculous micro transactions. I'm not even sure calling it a 'micro' transaction is fair given how expensive the DLC cars end up with some costing $40 or more for a single car DLC.

Sony and Polyphony Digital were also extremely deceptive when it came to reviews as the game we're playing now is not the same as what reviewers were playing. The changes around progression and micro transactions were only introduced AFTER reviews were published and since you can only play the game online, you're forced to take those updates.

Gran Turismo is supposed to be a franchise that allows you to drive the high-end cars you'll never get to own in real life. No one bought this game so they can experience what it's like not to be able to afford the cars they want.

For anyone considering this title, I would highly recommend getting GT sport instead which can be found for a significantly cheaper price. It also has reasonably priced DLC vehicles should you wish to avoid grinding for credits. Graphically, I don't feel GT7 looks that much better and the ray tracing mode which offers the biggest visual improvement only works during cutscenes. The campaign is good, but not at the expense of being able to own the vehicles you want to drive.

At its core, there is a good game there and if it was free-to-play, I would understand why the game is the way it is. But as a full price $70 next-gen title from Sony, there is no excuse for the amount of grinding required to unlock vehicles or the ridiculous amount of real-world money you have to spend when you want to avoid that.

There is also no excuse for the game not being fully playable offline. As someone who strongly believes in game preservation, I put a lot of importance on what is shipped on the disc. Sony needs to patch the game to be fully playable offline, but even if they do, long term the game is doomed into non-existence.

I would strongly advise against buying this game until Sony resolves both of these issues.

Visually stunning, good tuning upgrades, excellent racing model with very good handling. Probably second only to Assetto in terms of satisfying sim handling. Not as realistic, but still very enjoyable. Good range of cars.

That bit there ^^^ that's why this has three points out of ten rather than zero. That's it.

Now....on to the negatives. The many, many...MANY negatives. There are little niggles and huge, outrageous flaws and everything in between. But I'll start with the biggest issue:

    - Microtransactions. MTX for short. I have never, ever seen a AAA game implement MTX this disgustingly. It's jawdroppingly shameless. For those of you who don't know what GT7 consists of - well you have to unlock the cars before you can drive them. That means buying them using in=game credits. This is normal in modern AAA racing games. You can also spend real money, in the real world, to buy in-game credits. This is less normal in AAA racing games but it happens, and it's just one of those horrible things we all have to put up with because GTAV started the trend and also because there is no god.
So GT7 has these microtransactions. How bad can it really be though? Surely if other games have them it's okay for GT7 to have them too? You naive fool, let me explain just how bad it is in this game: the legendary cars, the really expensive ones, cost 20m credits. How much is that in MTX? Well, about £150. £150 for a single car. In a carlist that numbers in the 400s.

So how do you earn money in-game? Grinding. How long would it take to earn the 20m credits for that legendary car? FOURTEEN HOURS. Fourteen hours grinding the most profitable race, a mindnumbing hour long race.

So you either spend fourteen hours grinding for that car or you spend £150 of your own real money. Either way...you are a f***ing idiot.

But there's the roulette system right? The system where you occasionally get to spin a roulette wheel which has some tasty prizes on it. That sounds like a decent way to mitigate the grind and the MTX...right? Wrong, as wrong as you can be. The roulette system is so laughably foul, so ridiculously, comically evil, it's like it's laughing at you when you spin it. Because it's rigged. It's openly rigged. This isn't some suspicion that paranoid GT users have - it's been demonstrated. It's rigged to fall on the smallest reward, and it does so deterministically and with obvious contempt for the playerbase.
To me the wheel sums up GT7's economy. They didn't even bother to hide the fact that it's skewed. Polyphony don't seem to care that you know.

All of that makes the game a miserable experience for a newcomer like myself. I want to get into it...but it hates me and wants me to go away.

Of course, that one issue of the game's economy is more than enough to put any sane person off the game for good. But Polyphony wanted to make sure, so they added in hundreds of little ones too:

    - visual customisation is absolute bumsauce.
    - the clutch implementation in the game is bewildering.
    - the UI and general menu system were designed by a madman.
    - the chase camera is locked to the car in a way that turns off anyone who's come from playing any other racing game made this century. It would take a modder about six or seven minutes to fix this. Polyphony's take is 'f*** you, we're unique'. Yes, but not in a good way.
    - the career mode, single player in other words, is truly rubbish.

Etc. I'm going to stop now otherwise I'll still be here tomorrow. This game is utterly disgraceful, and I cannot believe that the short term benefit of raking in money from halfwitted MTX whales could possibly outweight the long-term disaster of turning so many people off this franchise completely. Add to that the general slow, laborious, grudging way that the developers respond to any complaints, the stubbornness with which they approach a videogaming genre that has changed radically since GT first arrived on the scene, and you have a recipe for alienating huge numbers of paying customers, very quickly, forever. Genius!

There's a great driving model underneath it, but really...who cares? A scorpion is a brilliantly evolved creature, but it's still a c***. I don't usually approve of review bombing, but in this case it's completely justified.

Gran Turismo 4 was the pinnacle of what GT could be. It’s been downhill but overall enjoyable up until maybe 6 or sport. Now it’s terrible. Not nearly enough races and you can’t use any of the special cars in ANY races.

Very nice game visually. Controls are on point. But don't buy this game if you want super cars (800+PP) because there are no world circuits for super car races. The current world circuit races are ALL limited in one way or another, preventing you from using your favorite car 99% of the time. Very cheap credit rewards that clearly points toward micro transactions. I wouldn't buy again.Very nice game visually. Controls are on point. June 20th update
The game still lacks content despite add a whopping THREE Group 1 races at the end of May...
Online play is kind of rotten with people purposely knocking you off the track, which results in you getting a penalty. Or people ramming you at 300 km/h when you're doing a hairpin turn.

Anyways, I bought the PS5 JUST for GT7 and it did not meet my expectations so I sold my PS5.
Edit: it's been a few days since my review. I've played daily and accumulated ~5000000 credits grinding two races. The Trial Mountain championship, and the American Championship. I played WoW for 17 years... I'm ok with a bit of grinding... However, I'm now faced without knowing what car to buy. All the ones I want are out of any single player car requirements for races (all higher than 800PP). This kind of blows.

This is a fair review - considering the lack of content - so prepare for a more negative spin below.... Since I'm not interested in online multiplayer and only interested in the campaign mode, this is why the review will be mostly that way.

However, the major problem is the game only has approximately 5% of the game available offline. Yes, apparently a constant internet connection is required, and a PlayStation Network account - Xbox LIve account I imagine for Xbox - just to play the career mode. The only modes available are a time-trial and an arcade mode; the former has 3 tracks available that feature music that grates on your nerves after about 3 or 4 attempts.

Intriguingly, the game cannot seemingly be updated without a PlayStation Network account and cannot be updated via the dashboard - by clicking the game image. Instead, the game forces you to mindlessly drive around one of those three time-trials for hours waiting for the update to install; I attempted this and must have clocked more than 4 hours driving around two of the three tracks - I avoided one for its Rap music - and found myself wasting tonnes of time and swearing at my television in utter frustration. The update seemed to lag and get stuck, so it appears broken completely. I do have a good enough internet connection, so that was not the problem; the problem appears to be the developer's obsession with making the game an online-only game. More of this to come below...

I purchased the game in a physical version. Unfortunately, what I didn't realise - like many posting negative reviews - is the small icon on the front mentioning the game requires the internet. There is also a small asterisk and sentence mentioning this on retail sites in the product description. This might cover the developers in a legal sense, but the warning was not sufficient enough in regards to just how unplayable this game is offline. I would argue the developers should have warned people sufficiently enough in marketing videos because the game that is there is the equivalent of one of those arcade racers, which is unacceptable nowadays. The fact the game requires a PSN account is intriguing, however, though I imagine this is perhaps also for legal reasons: By signing up for an account, you obviously will agree to data collection, and also seeing micro-transactions appear. I think agreeing to that is a sketchy part of policy and law, since I don't think many want them, though I think the developers are simply covering themselves here. Realistically, the game shouldn't need to be online and if it does, it certainly shouldn't need a PSN account.

An incredibly frustrating part of that update process is the opening cutscene. When the update was lagging, I restarted the entire download and install process (a several hour process and enormous file size) several times. Unfortunately, the opening cutscene could not be skipped - there was no button prompt and pressing all the buttons had no effect - so I was stuck watching the custscene for around 10 minutes. This cutscene obsesses over the history of cars, which is rather tedious. I experimented with deleting the save file and that had no effect with fixing the download problem. Noting, retaining the save file and restarting the game also had no effect on skipping the cutscene; the game simply doesn't know there's a save file. More on this later....

There appears to be no privacy settings preventing data collection from what I remember; I cannot remember this because I've spent around 3 hours playing the game and that was 6 months ago. The rest of the time has been waiting for the update to work while doing other things. Anyway, the fact the game has no privacy settings is bemusing since it's online only.. This is a sensitive issue nowadays and something, considering the online nature, needs more implementation.

According to things I've read the save file is not local - yes, it's only available online and saved on their servers. Also stated is the fact starting a new game requires a new PSN account. This is extreme to me. For someone that only does single-player, not having most of the game offline is terrible, but not being able to start again is ridiculous.

The game might only be available online properly, but that doesn't stop it taking over 100Gbs of the SSD's space on PS5. Shouldn't it only take a small amount if servers only allow most of the game to function? Surely, this will inevitably result in one-game only PSN accounts & there will be 1000s.

To conclude, this game being online-only appears to be about surveillance capitalism and micro-transactions. The developers are securing their main revenue streams by forcing people online. Unfortunately, it's removed 95% of the game for single player & privacy-conscious people.

To start, the technical underpinning is all there. It looks and sounds fabulous and the controls/physics work well on both gamepad and steering wheels.

It all falls apart when it comes to content.

To start, the game holds your hand all the way through the single player campaign. The majority of players are going to obtain the same exact cars in the same exact order. It's also got this broken Performance Point system that restricts you into using specific vehicles and tunes, a terrible departure from the original titles. It's not all terrible, at the very least it gives the player a sense of progress by giving everyone a constant feed of new cars and credits.

This ends fairly quickly though. After a leisurely 20 hours of playing what feels like a tutorial, the credits roll. The prize cars and tickets dry up, and the real slog begins. Now you can do the same few races over and over again to grind for some of those cars in the Legend dealership, the most expensive of which will take around 12 hours of pure grinding before you can afford them. There are about 5 at that price at the time I'm writing this, and they're all "dynamically" priced, i.e. the price just keeps increasing over time.

Then there's the UI, it's just awful, navigation is very clunky and unintuitive, especially if you're using a wheel with a d-pad. Be prepared to accidentally back out of the tuning shop a fair number of times, and waste a good bit of time going back and forth. The only thing that's easy to access in the entire UI is the microtransaction button. It's proudly presented every time you gain any credits, and is always two clicks away.

How about the AI and constant rolling starts? Start from the back of the pack and work you way up, almost every single race. Then watch the AI suddenly rubberband and speed up on the final laps. Mario Kart did a better job back in 1992.

I really don't know what to say, PD could have just given us an updated version of GT4 and it would have been perfect. Instead we have a compete regression, 1/5th the content and a heavy push towards microtransactions. It's oddly out of line with all the other great content we see from coming from the other Sony first party studios.

The microtransactions are out of control in this game. The progression is slow. I bought a higher edition and got in game currency and ran out quickly. I cannot use the cars that I want to use without grinding or paying money. Some grinding would be ok, but not this much. Not even half this much.

I got maybe 8 hours of enjoyment out of this game before the issues with it ruined my experience.

It gets 2 points for that short period of time, but I can't justify any more.

I remember I had a great time playing GT3 with my brothers some 20 years ago. I was toying with the idea that it would be fun to play the game again, just to find that it has evolved into a big corporate machination.

Sad to see, since the game was really fun without any of the purchasing or on-line shenanigans. I’m not a gamer and I don’t -and will not- own this game. I just wanted

    Dumme bescheuerte elendige Vollidioten!!!

For those who paid 80€ for this, this is unacceptable. In the future, when the game is discontinued and this issue is not resolved, you are basically left with nothing. The time and money you invested into playing this game will be competely wasted.

Even worse thing is that the game itself is not bad, in fact it's one of the best racers I've ever played. It's a real shame that developers are willing to kill their game, which they put countless of hours into making, just for some extra money when they force people to buy their next new game. These practices are killing gaming industry as a whole, that's why I gave this game such a low rating.

You were soooooo **** close, but then, for some unexplicaple ruthless capitalistic **** reason (probably cause your **** shareholder can’t get their pockets full enough… neither can your c-level execs) decided to enter such a **** microtransaction-/gamble mechanism into this game, that is just beyond good and evil. This is just absolutely horrendous. I mean… good thing I’m not spending a single dime more into this game, than I did buying the hard copy. But wtf… this is a game that CHILDREN PLAY. It’s **** PG 12. WTF. And the best thing is: you’re almost 100% guaranteed to pick the **** item out of the spins. As the game grants you "gifts“ probably just to fix you up to buy more of that stuff, and you open them, you will notice, that you’ll get the lowest possible reward for like 9/10 so called "gifts". The other one time, you ask? You get the second worst rewards. Not kidding. If you’ve got a 1Star-Gift it was always exclusively 2,000 credits. On the 2star-gifts it was 10,000 credits (which ofc is the lowest there) and on my first 3star-gift I got a whooping 5,000. I mean… at this point, I’d rather you NOT "gift" me **** and just let me be.
Also… it’s **** atrocious that you make the good cars barely available by raising prices on an artificial market that only you and your nans know how to manipulate probably… I mean… it’s a high end polished game. I’m sure Polyphony went out of their way to design a good GT. But then some douchbag piece of **** C-level exec was like: you know what? We’re not milking this content enough! Let’s FLOOD THIS **** WITH MICRO TRANSACTIONS BABY. YEE-HAAAH. In total: brilliant game. Awesome and super-quick VR update. But then… FLOODED with the most atrocious and scammy microtransaction system you’ve ever seen. It’s on **** battlefrontII-level. Honestly Sony… you’re lucky you don’t have headquarters here. I would take a dumb in you lobby so **** big, you’d still smell it when developing GT10. So you don’t **** forget.

The community isn't growing rapidly.
Seriously how long does it take for a company to go "OK this is all wrong. Let's just fix it." and do one big update rather than drip feeding utter nonsense every three months. Its online only, so racing offline isn't a thing, that includes ai. The ai cars are made of concrete (I though t this stopped in 2005) so knocking any form of ai car generally means high speed ramming, which by the way you always inevitably come off worse from, even in light contact situations.
The list of issues with this game are inexhaustive, I could literally write an essay and this is now 1 whole year on from my original review.
    Actually terrible.
Its really annoying seeing people stick up for it saying things like it's improving and giving it 8 ratings. A year ago I bought this game and it's still just getting to a point its playable.
Dont get me started on the cafe and all the "people" I have to "talk" to because the designer couldn't handle the fact that it's just a game, so half the time I'm reading what some cretinous idiot thinks I should know and I can't just turn that option off. All of which takes time away from actually doing what the game is for............ Racing

So close to being such a great game but severely let down by a lack of polish. - Difficulty is all over the place. Circuit experience for example - some can be done first try without practice. Others literally take days of grinding.

    - AI is pointless - cannot have a proper race against the AI because it's way too easy and all over the place. - Sport mode penalty system is just completely broken. 50:50 chance you get a penalty if someone else takes you out. No one seems capable of driving properly even on SR S. - Sport mode vehicle choices are often irrelevant because one car will be significantly quicker than the others even with bop on. Means every car in every lobby is the same. - menus are janky. - - Trophies are so boring and lazy - so many options to make these fun but instead they are grindy. A lot of them are bugged as well. Had good fun in the cafe menus but the rest of the game let it down.
Money payout is rubbish. Microtransaction grab.

The grind is unreal. It's a driving game that doesn't want you to own all the cars without giving them your real money, a £70 real driving 'simulator', that seems to spend much more effort simulating what best to annoy you with to make you open your wallet than actual physics. The mighty have fallen hard. People are suspiciously leaving higher marks now saying the payouts are higher. I have just reviewed this game, I started playing two weeks ago and have spent 150 hours in game to give you an idea of my experience. The money you make in game is so low it just makes you feel like you're moving in quick sand. Every aspect of the game, win money, difficulty, roulette tickets, invitations to buy cars, car parts and upgrades, all of it is based on pushing you to buy the currency, it's been a year, if Sony cared or this was a mistake it could've been fixed in five minutes. Sony doesn't care about legacy, they want money and they don't care how you feel. Disgusting. A disturbing look at the always online future of Sony's IPs. FOMO, microtransactions and pushing you out the door if your wallet is closed, Sony goes FTP for £70. Expand

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
