I REALLY wanted to like this game. I loved the Arkham games, especially Arkham Knight. The combat was fluid, and the character progression and storytelling was well paced. The city actually felt ALIVE! In Gotham Knights, the city feels dead and hollow. The combat is clunky, repetitive and not intuitive whatsoever. The combat was fluid, and the character progression and storytelling was well paced. The city actually felt ALIVE! In Gotham Knights, the city feels dead and hollow. The combat is clunky, repetitive and not intuitive whatsoever. Basic skills which are available straight out of the gate in Arkham Knight are locked behind skills which require skill points in Gotham Knights. The side missions are basic and all of them feel lazily scripted and very copy paste with little to no variation between the similar types (I did two investigation scenes back to back and they were the exact same clues and setup for both). There isn't very much incentive to switch between characters, as they all play basically the same with very slight variances (you can cape glide with Batgirl but not with anyone else, you can stealth takedown enemies from Gargoyles as Robin but not as anyone else). The voice acting gets annoying very quickly, as there only appears to be a small selection of recordings for each character when you're out exploring. The concept of this game was very promising, and had they spent more time on developing the individual characters, their skills and move set, it could have been a really fun game to play. Instead, it feels like they've taken a giant step backwards in the franchise.

The driving on the Batcycle is also horrendous. It doesn't give any sensation of speed, it handles like something from a late 90s Sega game and the character animations when you're driving are non -existent. It may as well be a large piece of ham on the bike with the throttle taped open.

Overall, I don't believe this is a AAA title worthy of a $90 price tag. It feels and plays more like a made-for-mobile game. Maybe it's more fun in multiplayer but I gave up on the game before giving that a chance. With a campaign that's just over 10 hours, I'd say wait until this comes out free as a PS Plus title.

I played it hoping it'd be better than on release but this is the sort of bad game that can't be fixed with patches. Clunky fighting, boring dialogue and dreadful enemies. Boss fights are the worst part with them being pure damage sponges. Avoid at all costs

So much to say, but the main issue for me is the lack of 60fps on a latest gen game. Completely unplayable unless you like eye strain and headaches. If you have an older tv then this might be the game for you.

The Gameplay: The gameplay in GK was a huge let down. We went from a smooth free flow combat system in the Arkham Games to….this. It feels clunky, slow, and unpolished. Not to mention the RPG elements in the game just don’t work. These type of Batman games don’t function well with RPG elements. Damage numbers and level scaling is absolutely ridiculous. This game loves to level gate players from certain missions. It almost forces you into “grinding” the open world to level up.

The Performance: Don’t even get me started on this. 30fps CAPPED on console. Absolutely unacceptable for a “next gen” only title. That fact that there is no performance mode is disappointing. Even with the capped 30fps, the game still dips below into the low twenties, making the game feel like a slideshow.

The Story: The story in this game was just “ok.” It certainly wasn’t memorable compared to any of the Arkham games. I won’t go further into this due to spoilers. Surprisingly the story is what carried me through the game.

The Characters: Just to be clear, I love the concept of a bat family game. Robin, Nightwing, Redhood, and Batgirl are all cool characters, just not in this game. I think the biggest problem for me was their voice acting and their dialogue. A lot of it was very cringey and had terrible delivery. I’m disappointed as Batgirl and Robin are some of my favorite side characters in the comics.

The Art Style: Once again we have another disappointment on our hands. Everything from the city to the outfits of the characters. Gotham city looks completely uninspired and boring compared to any other depiction we’ve seen in comics, video games, or movies. It just feels like regular city, not Gotham city with its dark gothic atmosphere and architecture. The character art style in this game is also bad. The coolest and most comic accurate skins are locked behind the deluxe edition paywall. In conclusion, I was massively let down with this game. I don’t recommend anyone buy this. Save your money. The performance, the gameplay, and several other factors just make this game so unenjoyable. I hope this review helps.

What's the point of new consoles, if new games are graphically worse and run worse than some older games? Even 2017 games like AC Origins look better than this. Nobody should defend this, because you are DC fan. I'm huge DC fan and that's why i don't support this, because i want better DC games.

30fps on NEXT GEN CONSOLES, poor graphics (would have been epic in 2012), some fun missions (thank god for these, am i right?), but overall nothing new, mediocre, been there-done that story. Overall very disappointing. Hopefully Suicide Squad game will be much better.

Really feels like a last gen title. EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 ultra, and the stuttering is unbearable! Game lacks any sort of polish to it and feel like another generic rushed out cash grab. And to top it off, pre-rendered cut scenes?!!!! Come on WB Montréal, you should know better.

All Montreal had to do was leave the fighting mechanics and just polish it, they could have tuned the fighting for robin, batgirl, etc to give a different fighting experience for each, but instead they decided to give a grand theft auto fighting feel to it and changed the counter move Batman does with an evade move, they completely ruined the game. We are on next-gen consoles, we are in 2022. And we just got a next-gen game, BARELY running 30fps.
God of War Ragnarok is coming out soon, and it has a 120fps option. That is 4x the fps of Gotham Knights. And Gotham Knights is empty, no civilians or pedestrians, same copy-paste buildings. God of War has crazy amount of details. This is just not good enough.
    First they removed the PS4

First they removed the PS4 released "because it's a next-gen game" they said. So I though WOW it's gonna have amazing graphics. But no......... the reason it's not out for last gen, is because it cannot run on last gen. It can only barely run 30fps on next-gen, it even dips to 25fps sometimes. This game is a mess

The game is not bad and serves you a lot. You want a hero? You have four. Want big missions? Usually you have about three going at once. You want side missions? You've got a city full of them. Which doesn't mean it's a great game. Just good and solid. [Issue#323]

Not being content with being one of the most soulless products released under the Warner Bros. label, it is also extremely underwhelming from a technical point of view. Gotham Knights was originally developed as a multi-gen title, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions got cancelled. Despite this, the visuals underwhelm and fail to impress and manage to look worse than the last major Batman instalment released seven years prior. Capping at a mere 30fps might be excusable if this boasted the most cutting edge visuals on the market, but it manages to look cheap and dated. For a AAA production from Warner Bros., this should have been a visual tour de force, with top writing talent, and have evolved the gameplay to compete with its contemporaries. Maybe it can be salvaged over time with updates, but currently it's one of the most droll and sloppily designed triple-A products of 2022.

Gotham Knights would be a great game, its sandbox approach to exploring Gotham is top-notch and its story keeps you just engaged enough to keep playing. The problem lies in the game’s lackluster combat and endless fighting cycles of beating up the same factions over and over and over with little to no variation to dialogue.
