The combat is tedious and clunky, the loot is boring, there are only three areas in the game and they all play the same. There is no mission variety, in fact when free roaming any world all you do is activate a beacon that leads to 3 garbage puzzles and once you finish them, the game doesn't give you anything else to do except warp back to the main hub so you can reload to the same area to do the same thing again for little reward.

At the the time of this review there are several major bugs that make the game unplayable. These vary from not letting you attack enemies, to not being able to open chests and collect resources to being permanently unable to complete the free roam beacons.

There is some potential here and with a lot of work, this could be a decent game. At present this game is not ready for prime time and was rushed to release. Avoid.

is it worth 60? no not at all, is it incredibly fun? yes! the combat and loot/min max experience feels really good and overall it seems very polished in the loot/combat department. How can the game be improved? idk but the game is missing something, idk what it is but when you play you will notice that it just doesn't feel full

I initially didn't give this game much of a chance because of the lack of matchmaking.
I sat down last week and really put some time into it, and once you have some skillsets behind you, you can really string together moves. Is it God of War? No, it is not and yet it has many of the features and game mechanics, as a gamer I appreciate the tremendous work put into it and would recommend you try it out if you want a fun looter/slasher experience!

Graphics are next-gen, weapon design and fight mechanics are so satisfying. The audio is solid and the use of the dual sense control gives it a true feeling of heft.

The second, you can definitely get a bit lost in but the combat is still fun and by this time you’re starting to find your groove. The third is a hedge maze of sameness and you start to realize that the game really only has 3 levels of assets that were vomited into a semblance of “level design” So not only are the environments getting bland but all of the sudden the boss battles turn into pure stupid with multiple enemies spamming unblockable attacks that just juggle you to death. And holy crap, the constant stuttering. Every 15-20 seconds the game stutters, on a couple of occasions ending with a crash. This really is an empty shell of a game that has no real story, combat that falls flat and completely unbalanced toward the end and leaves you with nothing but a regret for wasting your time with it. At least that’s where I stand. I have ZERO intention of finishing this or even playing again. All I can say is THANK GOD I bought a used hard copy. Highly entertaining after 20 hrs of gameplay. Loot system is brilliant and character development is deep. The fight engine is great and very satisfying with absolutely stunning visuals. The narrative leaves a little to be desired but the story line is interesting. At first glance, it reminded me of elements of God of War meets Ninja Gaiden. Hard to not enjoy if you are a slasher game fan.

There is multiplayer but you have to convince a friend to buy the game or ask someone online to play with you because theres no public matchmaking. Playing this game solo on hard mode is extremely brutal and the grind for better weapons and upgrading gear is pretty boring too. The valorplates are cool, but theres only like ten of them in the game and they all do the same thing except for maybe spawning a different ally or damage buffs. If this game had public matchmaking and more valorplates and made them completely different, this game would 100% be worth the next gen price. This game has some stellar graphics, and also pretty fluid combat mechanics. My biggest gripe is that because there is no matchmaking. The game is advertised as an online only 3 player co-op looter. The bosses are designed for 3 players. Yet there is no in game matchmaking. This makes you mostly end up playing solo which can be extra difficult for some boss fights. GAME NEEDS MATCHMAKING!!

The enemies are non interesting, basically don't aggro and are very easily defeated. The stagger mechanic is horrible and should be removed. Loot has almost zero impact and there is so much that it becomes meaningless. No matchmaking and if you are playing in Australia, forget multiplayer as the servers are in the US so enemies, allies and even your own character will pop all over the map.

Another example of a lazy developer putting out trash simply hyped up as a next-gen title because it shines, regardless of the game freezing every time a medium-sized enemy dies on all platforms. Sony, as disappointing as ever, desperately touting this game as the bee's knees. A pathetic example of the "justified" price hike to $70. Let us pay them MORE, to do LESS!

AAA Cashgrab, focusing on nothing but "oh shiny, oh wow particle effects! 10/10" reviewers.

Developers hopped on the $70 price-hike train, charging more money for less and less quality. No, your next-gen shine and particle effects leap is not worth an additional $10. Mods do the same thing for 10-year-old games free of charge.

The game is poor quality, combat is copy-paste and boring. Maps are copy-paste with different filters (Oh Shiny, still!). Basically, it's a decorated hallway simulator.

No campaign at all. AT ALL. Farm the same 5-minute missions (go here, kill that) 20 times to collect tokens to unlock doors (mobile game???). Open the big door a couple of times, the game is over. Oh, and you talk to two different NPC's about how bad the bad guy is every once in a while.

It's bad guys. Really, it's pathetically bad. The fact that this was hoisted as a true next-gen AAA experience during all this time (and NOBODY at Sony realized how truly awful this was) is concerning, and a bad, bad sign for this new generation of games. Also, just goes to show that Sony doesn't actually have a single clue about what a videogame actually is.

Avoid. Avoid. And if somebody gives it a 10/10, avoid them too. It's either an attempt to combat buyer's remorse or an employee.

I didn't care to finish the story, but I felt compelled to having purchased the game for $125AUD (ridiculously overpriced). The dialogue was lame and cliche, and the voice acting fell flat (likely due to poor directing rather than the actors talent).

The graphics were nice, but the game sufferered frequent frame rate drops regardless of playing on fidelity or performance modes.

The valorplate and weapon designs were aesthetically impressive and unique, but had negligible functional differences, so there was no real incentive for obtaining them aside from collecting them.

The different realms looked cool, but we're functionally all the same, and the extent of exploration involved running through corridors collecting things conveniently placed seemingly everywhere, so there was never a challenge to obtain resources. Also where was the fire realm?!?!

Over the course of the short campaign the game crashed 4 times, and bugged out a few other times resulting in missions needing to be abandoned and restarted.

The combat was basic, clunky and unresponsive. I was constantly having to press buttons multiple times to get the corresponding action to work; e.g. shield and healing functions. Multitasking was impossible as every animation needed to completed before allowing a new action to be done; e.g. you basically had to stand still to heal, you couldn't dodge or block once commited to an attack. These issues weren't a huge deal during regular combat waves, but they made boss fights incredibly frustrating and unenjoyable experiences.

Speaking of boss fights, these seemed to play out inconsistently. At times there was zero consequence for dieing as the battle would just resume with the boss having the same amount of health within the checkpoint, while other times the boss health would fully replenish without reason.

Overall the game was a huge disappointment. I really wanted to like the game and I tried to keep a positive mindset toward it, but in the end I couldn't. The game has no future playability and so I'll be trading it in this weekend before it becomes worthless.

also valorplates, meant to be similar to "warframes" in warframe, are like your suits of armour that you use, however, they all play exactly the same, there is almost no difference at all between the statuses such as bleed, ignite, shock, etc. which i'm not sure why they even made them like that.

The combat is excellent. It feels good and there are a lot of different avenues to it. The weapons all play differently and you can find your niche and roll with it. But with regard to the valor plates, they don't seem to play a whole lot differently. You've got a decent amount that focus on DoT stuff that are all more or less the same. More work needed to be put into this area.

The story is non-existent, almost like they didn't even try to write one and just put in some cut scenes to break up the gameplay.

In terms of end game content, it dries up pretty quick. If you're playing solo it could last you a bit longer since it will present more of a challenge. if you're in a group, it's not too hard. The fact that there is no matchmaking is a big letdown in this game. Once you clear all the dreamstones you're left with the ascended tower of trials. The tower is a serious time sink with absolutely zero checkpoints. Why there are no checkpoints is super bizarre. It can take 3-4 hours to get to level 50 in the tower which is required for the final trophy in the game. That's a pretty long chunk of time to dedicate to in one playthrough.

Graphics look incredible. The particles are great and all of the realms look really good. One area that they missed the mark is regarding cosmetics of the valorplates. You have no option to change colors, etc.

I've put about 50 hours into the game and enjoyed my time with it but I've come to the end of the road with it and will move on since there is no other content to do.

I was really looking forward to this game and it was actually hard to rate it because the good and the bad are both strong in this game. Would give this game a 6.5/7.0 if it was not for the price tag that brought me to lowering the package you get to a 6. Read on for details.

Graphics in this game are stunning. Visually the whole game looks very good and I do not share some opinions that it is too boring on terms of graphical mix. It has a certain style it re-uses but I found each of the areas pretty nice and different. The monster details are good especially for the bosses. It uses the next-gen power very good.

Sound effects are too bland for my liking. There is nothing special and it misses the immersion. My 7.1 atmos surround feels very loud in comparison to other games in standard volume but the directional depths is not that well made. Also the soundtrack feels nice, if it is ever present which is not always and drives the feeling of emptiness.

Which is is my next point. The maps are big, somewhat complex and irritating, there is no general map you only navigate by markers and "insight". The problem with this is.. it is boring and you get lost. Also the world itself is absolutely dead. Besides enemy groups here and there nothing hits your attention.

Balance and progression is another good and bad. The loot is nice, the weapons are well designed and have different feelings to it. Alternating playstyles is fun and the combat has a depths... thats is so complex, sometimes you just wished it wasnt. Which is a little bit sad because the fighting is fluent and action-paced but so harsh to control sometimes. Newcomers might be in trouble. Difficulties peeks ever so often from overkilling to getting rampages by bosses everything is possible in a second. This is where the grind begins and I have to admit it gets boring fast. Considering I did quite some side-progression, it took me 8hrs to beat the campaign and I was HELLA bored at the end. I used to farm games like Diablo for ages... so I can safely its not on my end.

To round things up you have the always online crap, you have stutters with the latest patch and I had one crash. The game seems to have a memory leak because it definitely gets worse over time although I feel the online mode might be responsible for the hiccups too.

Summarizing... the game looks beautiful, it is fun. The combat leaves you with much to do and learn but the package does not fit. It gets boring fast and the game needs polishing ASAP. For the price tag it is absolutely not recommendable to buy. Please for your own sake wait a bit for more patches and get it at a decent sale of 50% then probably loot-grinding fans will have some fun with it.

If you’re into ARPGs and loot-centered games you’d probably enjoy this. Does it have its problems? Sure. Is it perfect? Not at all. Is it pretty and fun? Absolutely. I think it’s ridiculous that some of the reviews on this game give it a 1 or a 0. Butthurt... butthurt everywhere! I can’t think of a single game in the last 5 years that deserves a ZERO! That just seems juvenile IMHO.

I’d suggest trying this game out for yourself. I did, despite tons of bad reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. If you like THESE KINDS of games than you will like THIS game. If you expect this game to be another game, you will be disappointed. I think that with a bit of patching and expanding that this game has great potential, and it stands as a nice change of pace from web-slinging and first-person shooting.

I give it a solid 7, I’d even go as far to say 8 if the devs could fine tune the sticky targeting system, as it gets a little wonky at times. GODFALL is a decent game full of beat em up melee fun.

The story is non-existent, just talk to this dudet and then talk to this dude and back to map, two characters to interact with but they don't say anything meaningful, just some generic lines.
all combat areas feel the same, all enemies feel pretty much the same and the gameplay loop is extremely repetitive and recycled, even for a looter.

All of that would be passable if the combat was good but it sucks.
I was amazed by how much it doesn't feel intuitive, the animations are super long and are not cancel-able, I just have to sit there while I watch the enemy throwing a punch while I can't do anything just because I decided to do a heavy attack, so frustrating and clunky, you can't even parry in the middle of an animation WTF???

There are some cool mechanics like the soulshatter and weakpoints but when the combat feels so bad and control lacking, what's the point?

Variety and loot is also non-existent as most of the plates have the same stats with different names but all revolve around damage per sec like bleed or chill but the play style is basically the same and I was encouraged to play with the plate I have the gear with the stat that boosts it's damage per second with no substantial depth and thought about creating cretin builds that will "feel" good or just different.

Visually, the game looks nice, art wise, but after a while it feels like too much MSG on your food you can't even taste what's it made of anymore.

Buying this excuse of a game was a huge mistake and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it feels like the devs were lazy when creating it and just repeated a few elements with a different visual design, extremely disappointing.

I gave it a 3 and not 0 just because there are some cool ideas and the skill tree is ok, but it doesn't matter when the gameplay feels so bad.

    I wish I could get a refund...

    P.S
The game is also really buggy...

Its actually got really fun combat/skills/loot so far but its bogged down by little mechanics that are frustrating. You see other reviewers mentioning no attack cancelling, and I must say i agree 1,000%. Especially with the shield, not being able to cancel your animations to either block/evade is a BIG detractor. You cant chain different abilities together easily because you have to wait for the first one to completely finish its animation before you can do another ability. Switching weapons requires you to pause for a second and wait and then press the button. Sprinting takes too long to activate and sometimes doesnt work or just stops. Your character just isnt very fluid. There are others too but these stick out the most.

Its not terrible, though, like some make it out to be. The graphics are pretty, the bosses/enemies are interesting and have good mechanics. It can get repetitive but thats just this type of game. The combat still has a fun factor but needs updating

Performance issues exist but I expect that can be fixed too

This game would be much better recieved if it weren’t for the $70 price tag. Its just lacking that extra polish to justify the full-price buy

I really hope they update this game I can tell alot of effort went into this after listening to dev interviews

A point is only taken away as visual customization is severely lacking (although thankfully not a greedy microtransaction in sight) but Counterplay games seem to be legitimately listening to community feedback at a fast pace. They were so lazy they didn’t take tutorials out when doing crystal missions. This game is like Anthem, Diablo, Warframe, and Destiny all combined except a horrible version of them. The story is about exactly what the games title is. A god was dethroned and is climbing his way back up for revenge. Their is barely any substance throughout the game upon completing missions. Some beautiful cut scenes with lore would’ve saved this game for sure. The few scenes I’ve seen are beautiful and they should’ve capitalized on that. The entire, very short campaign is an extended tutorial and the game doesn't start until "endgame content". I feel like most reviews don't appreciate this at all. Being overwhelmed makes you feel as weak as I remember feeling in torchlight 3, nothing near the power they intend for your character to portray. You just can get infinitely interrupted or knocked down with no opportunity to stand back up occasionally. The gameplay would have to be significantly reworked for this to be considered fun.

The loot is global drops. I am not sure why anyone would thing to do this after the great success at Anthem doing the same thing.

It's still pretty buggy having some enemies refuse to spawn requiring you to leave the mission and restart. Once all enemies just did not attack me and just let me slowly whack away at them. If there were zero bugs however, it still is a rather poor gameplay experience.

Really fun looter don't expect an epic story it's kind of like borderlands 3 lackluster story but awesome looting trying to find that next awesome weapon. Biggest gripe I have with the game is that it stutters after playing for a couple hours definitely need to fix that. Also if they added more cosmetics you find in-game they would have a solid game.

Great game .. gives diablo vibes .. with flair and next gen graphics... need more endgame dept and some adjustments to the combat and it will be a challanger to looter games.

Super fun coop. Hard mode on coop isnt too difficult. Hopefully more difficulties get added.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is not much nice to say. Graphics are really good, if you like the art design. Combat system is fun but quite slow for most of the weapons types. I experienced a lot of framedrops on a 3080. Had to manually set the process to real-time priority and they were gone. That shouldn't be necessary. Also i experienced a lot of mission breaking bugs. For example being stuck on a chest or between rocks and unable to move away. Happend at least three times during the game. The lack of proper markers for side/bonusmissions is also annoying. Somestimes i searched the whole map, just to find nothing. Story, characters etc. are not even worth mentioning, very straight forward, no surprises, nothing. Easy and normal difficulties are way too easy, because there is literally no punishment for dying and infinite respawns. There should be more difficulty settings or infinite respawn just in easy mode. On top of all that the game is really short and the endgame content as boring as the rest. All in all it feels like an indie game with triple A optics. Expand

    GODFALL Review: 7/10
Visually stunning, intuitive, fun and satisfying combat system that sins from some repetition. Props to the co-op mode and absence of microtransactions. The story it's interesting and, just as the character development /upgrade system, is the main reasons to keep going.

This game honestly should be a solid 8/10 imo. After reaching and now playing through endgame, I can say I've easily gotten my money's worth and had a fun time doing so. Otherwise, you already know this game. If you like Destiny, Avengers, Anthem, Diablo, or any of these games then you'll like this. The game doesn't deserve the super low ratings it's getting as it's truly not terrible. It's not perfect nor a masterpiece of any sort. If you're playing single player, expect a 7/10 experience; if you're going to enjoy multiplayer make it an 8/10. Also this is the only game I've ever played where all loot is cool. Every single weapon always looks really cool, even the commons, uncommons, rares, and epics; of course the legendaries are the coolest. It's also a game that gets better as you play. Combat can seem simple at first, but once youve started filling out the skill tree, getting god rolls on loot, and doing end game, like all the other above mentioned games: it's where the game really begins. If you have a PS5 or high end PC with some friends, pick it up and just have some fun watching all the cool sparklies. Gameplay is like Warframe meets God of War meets Diablo and easily a game you can sink many hours into. Expand

It is a game much mistreated by critics and users alike. It's also the fault of the developers who didn't know how to sell this game. It is not a crap game, it does not deserve insufficiency but not even excellence. Those who have given less than 60 should not be taken into consideration, they cannot do their job or they cannot analyze the games.
It's that game in the middle, enjoyable

Once you get at most 2 hours into the game, i can guarantee you that you have experienced everything the game has to offer, which is very barebones on itself. It's an actual insult to put a $60 price tag on this. If you want an actual "looter-slasher" which in reality is just an ARPG, play warframe, destiny 2, games like that.
(edit): I had to change the game's score down. after examining the dialogue a bit, it's terrible. There's barely any reason why you should like any of the characters. their personality is so plain it makes the west siberian plain look like a lush forest with rivers flowing everywhere. There's no drive to push the player forward to want to stop Orin's brother. All they do is say "he will be a god... you must stop him" and nothing else. don't get me wrong, the graphics look amazing, but it doesn't fill the void that is the repetitive maps with similar enemies. At first when I read reviews for the game I thought "oh, repetitive combat? i'm fine with that" but the combat actually is nothing but a cardboard box with only a sheet of paper in it saying "f*ck you". the game is the same from start to finish and it never feels like you actually get better. Godfall is exactly like Anthem but with a thin coat of paint, barely covering all of the damage done.

I play Godfall on PC with a friend and we are very disappointed about this game. The idea of the game is very good but it seems like the devs said to the intern "Could you please program Godfall for us? You have 3 weeks!"

We have SO many bugs, also gamebreaking bugs. The performance on our highend-pcs is like we play it on the PS2. Even if you have a good average-FPS-performance, the game drops down very often and it's nearly impossible, also with lower graphics to play this game lag-free.

    Some gamebreaking bugs:
    - "GPU crashed or D3D Device Removed." and the game closes immediately (I searched for this bug and I only found it for fortnite (surprise surprise, a Gearbox game)
    - I can't attack with left mouse button until a complete game restart
    - I can't run
    - I can't press "C" which is the main-interaction button, so that I can't collect some items and port to another portal

We played this game 3 days and we found more gamebreaking bugs than we found at all games, we played in 2020. Sometimes you can't block or some combo-attacks don't work but this is nearly the smallest problem.

If I would exclude all the bugs the gameplay is ok but it's always exactly the same. Of course, games like borderlands have also a repetitive endgame gameplay but this game is from beginning until the end exactly the same. The maps and enemies are also very similar to each other. Also the story is really boring and you can't even skip these dialogues. There are only 2 NPCs who are telling the story. After every mission you run to one NPC, after that to the other. Sometimes one NPCs asks you what the other NPCs told you... but these two NPCs are standing in the same hall, maybe 30 meters distance.

This game is perfect for memes, but not for playing. So if you can get it for maybe 20-30 $ and you really like games like Destiny, Warframe or Borderlands, you can give it a try. Maybe after the most of the bugs are fixed. But 60-80 $ is nearly robbery for this game. :'D

This is the hack and slash game I've been waiting for. The combat is similar to God of War (2018) but faster and smoother. And the graphics are gorgeous. And the game is actually fair and not punishing at all.

The parry system again it is very clunchy, I was expecting for a parry which works like the one from God of War or the new ACs.
A few bugs here and there, but the most annoying I find the healing orbs bug when even if you pick a healing orb it doesn't heal you at all and it happens like a lot.
There are only 3 maps where you do all the missions and most of the time you must the same mission to unlock a new one. Recycled content 99%. Even the dreamstone missions are recycled missions. It does have nice armour suits.
I am used to play games based on looting like The Division games, Destiny 2, Black Desert, Bloodborne, Blade and Soul etc...but this game I put it near Anthem...
It doesn't worth 60euros for pc version or 70 for ps5 version at all. It looks like the devs tried to combine ideas from a few games but they failed big time...

The only thing Godfall has going for it is its great combat system. Everything else just came along for the ride. [01/2021, p.42]

Godfall doesn’t do anything egregious or worse than any of the other disappointing looters of this generation, but it does almost everything equally as badly in a weird perfect balance. This is what makes it so frustrating. There is definite potential for a gem inside this game, but it’s so busy with being a downright average-at-best looter that it loses all semblance of actual personality, a key component to maintaining a looter game. Impressively non-existent story, incredibly derivative art, classes which mean absolutely nothing, a deceptively small loot pool, technical issues up the wazoo, terrible endgame design and a horrific netcode all add up to a visually pleasing but soulless affair that can’t even begin to escape being categorised as anything more than a flashy tech demo.

After wrapping Godfall, I was left with the feeling that it’s going to be a one-and-done. I can’t see myself doing its endless trials or repeating the endgame boss fights — it just doesn’t feel like there’s anything more to work towards. The graphics are great and the combat is enjoyable, but it gets samey too quickly and ends up as a typical next-generation launch game that will be soon forgotten.
