Everyone in Tokyo is dead, there are spirits around this open world that you free by completing optional side activities that also help level you up much quicker in the game… and crawling around this empty city are these creepy demon enemies that you have to blast with your supernatural powers and pull their cores out with your bear hands or with some sort of……. Ghostwire.. .if you stick to the main campaign theres nothing special here… infact the game would be pretty mediocre if you don’t expore its world.. thankfully youll want to… clearing these corrupted trees in your way, clensing these gates to unlock fast ravel points and clear fog to open up the world more… doing some great and also some rigiuclous sidequests which can really immerse you into this world… these are the best moments of ghostwire Tokyo.. immersing yourself into the side activities.. its just a shame youll so quickly grow tired of this world, youll get used to the spooky monsters, the sidequests will start to feel unnecessary.. the skill tree leaves a lot to be desired so youll stop caring about rescuing souls once you’ve unlocked every ability you care about… so youll probably find yourself like me abou halfway through the game jut sticking to the main quests.. which are good.. but nothing to blow you away… ghostwir Tokyo is fun through.. the combat is tense, youll be juggling through abilities, sneaking up behind enemies trying not to alarm the others… I loved my time spent in this creepy world… my only gripe with conmbat though is this skin crawling nails on chalkboard feeling when you run out of one of the 3 energies and have to switch to another.. I hate it and wish the game would just switch to the next automatically when youre out of one of them… as you do have to destroy glowing items in the environment to refill ammo or pull the cores out of enemies…
Overall this is a decently enjoyable action horror game, its unique.. its memorable…
Worth hopping into even if it slowly goes from wow this game is amazing to.. that game was pretty good..
    I give Ghostwire Tokyo
    a 7.5/10

A solid game with great exploration, a very fun design and tone, that can go from a relaxing jaunt down backstreets, hunting for tanuki, gathering lost souls, or just exploring, to intense fights against genuinely unsettling foes. Combat gets a bit repetitive though, and some elements just do not work as intended. Definitely worth a buy if on sale, or if you're curious though.

Repetitive game with a forgettable story. I started off the game hoping that the game will get better, but by the end of it, was glad it was over. Good looking game, but that does not matter after a couple of hours of playing.

Surprisingly fantastic game. Mysterious atmosphere, Japanese culture, unique story and magic. The level up system, mission structure, etc. are common to most games like this currently, but this game is unique in its premise and execution. Got the game used from GameFly for $20 and well worth it so far. Truly enjoyable and better than expected.

You either are really into the premise and concept or you simply won't get it. I love the themes, spooky imagery and overall dark concept. If you're not fully invested in that the rest won't be enough to carry you through.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i came across this review to this game:

"Boring and repetitive combat, empty city which is uninteresting to explore, annoying platformer elements, waste of your time and money."

And I laughed. Let me pick this apart and add my two cents.

    "Boring and repetitive combat"?

All combat in every game gets repetitive after so many hours. It's simplistic if anything, but in no way a bad thing. You have three magic attacks, four types of talismans and a bow and arrow. Combat is smooth and works well.

"Empty city, which is uninteresting to explore"?

Not sure what this person means by this. The game world is modeled after the actual ward of Shibuya in Tokyo. The actual game word is more or less identical to the real place. If they mean empty as in no human NPC's, then they missed the point of the game considering everyone in the city has vanished. It's part of the story.

    "Annoying platformer elements"?

When? You can jump from rooftop to rooftop, but that's hardly platforming. There's no "pits" what you'd find in platformer games. Ignorant statement.

"Waste of your time and money"?

    Hardly.

Why did I give this game an 8?. It's very good game worth your time, for sure. But like all games, I did have my gripes with it at points. For one; too many collectibles; spirits, tanuki, investigation notes, voice logs, music, attire, Jizo statues, magatama. Sure, I 100%d the game, but sometimes too many collectibles can be a bit overwhelming. The good thing is, is that they're not TOO hard to find.

The ghost enemies that wear sheets. Worst enemies in the game by far. A huge hinderence a lot of the time.

Some side quests are a bit bland, some just being fetch quest, but every game suffers with these more or less.

No true replayability. For me, a story driven game like this is a kind of one and done kind of deal. For a long while anyway. Once you finish the game, there's is really no reason to instantly play it again like you would games like Resident Evil or Evil Within to unlock more gear. I may replay it again, but not for a long while, but with this big update coming, it may draw me back even sooner to see all the extra content.

Despite the mild cons, I found myself really enjoying this game. The story is great, the game itself not too long (You can probably finish it in about 5 hours if you just do the story without doing the side stuff).

Enemies have good designs, some of which are based on actual Japanese folklore. Sure, some are kind of re-skinned, but still look different from the other enemies in the same group. Again, most games do this, so that's forgivable.

Characters are good, none of which are annoying, though the banter with the two main characters can be a bit repetitive, but yet again, forgivable.

Overall great game and as it's now on PS+ and about to be put on Game Pass, you should definitely give this game a go. If you are interested in Japanese folklore and mythology, then this game is definitely for you.

It was hard to get used to at first, and I had to HEAVILY tweak the controller sensitivity settings. By the end though, I was genuinely sad it was over despite almost 100% completion. The story, lore, side quests, and characters are engaging and the combat is epic once you get the hang of it. Bonus points: At the late stages of the game you feel like a fricken super hero.

If you push through the story and ignore the side content the game is already short. Now there is nothing wrong with a short game if the price point is right - as a matter of fact the game would have benefitted from being a shorter/smaller open world experience as well. This way it wouldn't allow itself to become repetitive.
I expected a horror experience set in Tokyo (more suspense/thriller than jumpscares) and what I got was not at all what I expected. Once I got over the disappointment I grew to like it some. 6/10 - above average game but not much else.

Ghostwire Tokyo was a game I was always cautiously optimistic about, from Tango's soft reveal to only snippits of gameplay at various shows I was always hopeful I would like this game, but couldn't be sure until I played it. Well after finishing the game last night... I can say without a doubt it's one of my favorite games I've played in years.

Ghostwire tells a fantastic narrative of a crazy villain who's trying to merge the realms of life and death together into one. Throwing you into a strong story from the beginning, you quickly develop an attachment to your main characters Akito and KK who carry the plot through many twists and turns. The main story by itself is fantastic, but the developers made it even better with one of the most rewarding side quest systems I've ever played in my life. Playing these tales of hunting Yokai, helping spirits move on, and solving mysteries adds a whole new depth to the game where you feel like a spirit detective of sorts as you explore the vast city with your partner. This adds a whole layer to the story that compliments this main narrative perfectly because you're not just a guy on a mission to help yourself, but to help everyone else around you both alive and dead. This also adds more life to a world that's otherwise desolate and makes you feel a little less alone.

Everything in this game is additive and is sincerely fun to play. Hunting for hidden Tanuki, chasing Rokurokubi, leaving cucumbers for Kappa are all just a few examples of fun things that pop up along the way, but the game also rewards you for doing them. Every side quest carries a story with it and a handful of rewards, every collectable can be sold and displayed (with adorable Nekomata shopkeepers no less), and the database in your menu is fun to read because it's filled with history and culture lessons. The developers so quickly went out of their way to ensure everything in this game was made with purpose; no needless grinding, mindless fetch-quests, or anything that feels like a slog to do. Every time a quest pops up or there's a new thing to find you get excited, and it's so rare that games give you that feeling.

To top it off the gameplay is an absolute delight. Combat always feels fun and fulfilling, each battle provides you with plenty of freedom to fight as you want to, and you never seem to feel punished or treated unfairly. Every enemy has their own level of fun and strategy and every boss is a fun challenge to take down. Mix that in with fun city traversal, beautiful sights to see with gorgeous next-gen visuals, and not a single glitch experience in the entire game and I can honestly say there was never a single moment I didn't have fun.

All of these factors separately alone make for a great game, but bringing them all together really pulls this experience to being a masterpiece. Every action leads to something meaningful and fun - A compelling narrative only enhanced by a quest system that adds a whole layer of depth to the game, tons of yokai that you encounter and gain an appreciation for, finding tanuki and dogs, and collectables with purpose are all things that are both fun to do and things you are rewarded for, in terms of both gameplay and story value. There isn't a single missed opportunity, not a single menu wasted - Just fun and enjoyment everywhere you look at any given time.

I can honestly say that in my opinion, Ghostwire Tokyo is a perfect game. Everything being so additive and well thought out shows this was a passion of love and creativity and a desire to make something great. I was excited to come home and play every day, to spend every second of my time off in this world, and to continue this phenomenal journey that even caused me to teared me up during the incredible finale of the story. This will not only contend for being my favorite PS5 game, or my Game of the Year, but may be quite possibly one of my favorite games of all time. I've loved every second of this masterpiece, and even after I proudly add the Platinum trophy to my ever-growing list, I have no doubt I'll miss my time with this experience greatly. PS5, PC, Series X - Whenever and wherever you can play it, Ghostwire Tokyo will always be amongst my highest recommendations to anyone who can play it. This really is something incredible, and I promise you don't want to miss it.

STORY, GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS, GRAPHICS AND DIFFICULTY
Ghostwire: Tokyo tells a story of how nearly all of Tokyo’s citizens have vanished mysteriously and Yokai (known as Visitors) have invaded the city. Akito, the game’s protagonist, is possessed and saved by a spirit detective named KK. He encounters a group wearing Hannya masks who may unveil the mystery behind the strange events in Tokyo, one of which is the kidnapping of Akito’s sister. He goes after them to save his sister.

The story overall was good and the pacing and storytelling was fast enough to keep me interested all the way.

The gameplay was nicely made. Akito uses his weaving powers to shoot the enemies and when their core is visible he can rip it out. Only negative thing I found, was how the aiming was little bit difficult, but I got used to it. I also did lots of side missions, which were different each time and they filled the game nicely.

Graphically Ghostwire: Tokyo looked nice, but there was lots of pop-ins, which didn’t bother me much, but it was very noticeable. All the enemies were designed well and so were the enviroment. Only bad thing was how the areas looked very much the same and it was hard to tell where I was. The map was good in this situation. All the areas weren’t available in the beginning, because the city was covered with odd fog that kills if entered. Only thing to clean this was to find Torii gates and clean the area. Mostly the Torii gates were covered with enemies, so opening the areas was sometimes hard to do.

The boss battles were one of the best thing of the game. They were different each time and the bosses had to be beaten with certain way. Not shooting them with all your might was the answer.

Doing the side missions and main missions didn’t give enough exp. points, but collecting souls was the answer. By collecting them I got enough exp. to upgrade my weapons and skills. The whole skill-tree was rather simple. I liked it that way so making the gameplay was much easier.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was sometimes very demanding. The amount of ammunition player has was limited and shooting enemies should me exact. I found myself many times out of ammunition and scarping by I could kill the enemies. Some enemies were very aggressive and fast. I did find this game to be rather demanding at times.

    FINAL THOUGHTS
Ghostwire: Tokyo is very good game with some new twist. It took me about 11 hours to finish this and it was satisfying to play. The game was full of Japanese folklore, which I found to be interesting and instructive.

Spider-Man.

This game is love it or hate it depending on how you approach this game. If you look at this as a first-person shooter type thing you'll hate it. The trailer doesn't well enough depict what this game is. If you look at this as an exploration based action horror with stealth aspects you'll love it. It's very Japanese and thankfully doesn't feel "toned for the west" if you know what I mean.

If you've been to Tokyo it will give you a feeling of nostalgia because of how accurate the world is. The story and world are built to pull you in and the game heavily rewards you for exploration. It can feel repetitive but I had fun the whole time. You'll find the city as accurate as you would New York in Spiderman games. Except with a twist, which ends up being funny like the Shibuya 429 building.

The game is a bit challenging but not too much. I died a few times but not enough to frustrate me and not because of any issues with the game. The aiming is a bit garbage on the PS5 but you get used to it. If you're used to console FPS games it will infuriate you because it's just not built to be that. The game mechanics feel as though they were made to build up panic and anxiety which is perfect for a horror game. It actually makes you feel like there's risk and it helps. The difficulty goes up and down so it keeps you on your toes.

The enemies and story are very much built into Japanese lore and you'll meet various horror entities, demons, and ghosts from Japanese mythology. Sadly many of them will repeat and enemy variance isn't big. If you're American you might not like this game simply because nothing is familiar about it. If you've watched anime or Japanese horror you will love this because it touches on a little of everything. You'll fight all kinds of Yokai that might be directly pulled from myth or have very close similarities. The non enemy Yokai are literally pulled from myth like Kappa, Ittan-momen, Kodama, and the best are the Tanuki. You'll see why. Nekomatas run the shops and they are adorable.

You can pet the dog! You can pet the cat, sometimes! The people who made this game genuinely love animals. Just go pet an animal in the game and feel your heart melt. Just don't read their minds unless you want your heart crushed. They do not pull punches when it comes to "how would an animal feel if people vanished".

This game is unique and the combat is incredibly interesting. Traversing the city can be easy or difficult depending on what and when you upgrade and collecting things is quite a bit of fun. I never felt bored playing this and it kept pulling me in to do exploration or side missions. This is one of the few games where I felt side missions were rewarding. If not for what you get, for the added lore.

The game does have a couple of bugs with an audio issue but nothing breaking. Performance isn't great on some of the modes depending on where you are in the game. They do give you a lot of visual/performance modes to try though. On top of Shibuya station looking at the city can really lag your PS5 but other than that it performs pretty well on performance mode and still looks great.

In a world of Resident Evil and other survival horror games it's great to play an original horror game that isn't about punishing you or scaring you but pulling you into a world to explore with a generally creepy vibe. You can tell this was made with feeling and by people who really understand Japanese horror.

So I loved this game - but only gave it an 8/10. I have lived for many years not far from Shibuya, and have spent many years prior to that travelling to Tokyo. I have lived for many years not far from Shibuya, and have spent many years prior to that travelling to Tokyo. The one thing I wanted was a game to give me the open world experience of Tokyo. I can 100% guarantee that GhostWire gives a very specific feel for Shibuya... admittedly without people. Still, I loved exploring and searching. Even without people - which is a downer. The downsides are the mechanics - and for me, it was the controller mechanics - I would often press the right combination of buttons, but it would suddenly disconnect (the more I played, the more this was an issue). That could be a Sony thing, but if so, QA should have addressed it in their prep-phase. I know a lot of people are down on the lack of variety of foes - and that's fair... what i don't understand is why they hid a lot of different enemies behind random (side-quest) encounters. Just silly IMHO. The game is not hard, but I think some of the resourcing decisions (on ammo) are just wishful thinking - I never once found water (shot-gun) ammo to be that useful, yet there's a crap tonne of that compared to fire elemental ammo. I also wished they had some more different areas - I know how samey Tokyo can be, but the design decisions meant they were constrained to the most grey looking version. As I said - I loved it, but if you don't know the area you might be thinking this is a lot of the same.

Edit - I would also say that there are some Control-level cinematics here that are well worth the price of admission. The problem is - a lot of people bee-lined the game, and they didn't see as much as they should have. Also, it helps if you know your Japanese folk-lore.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and the gameplay and found this to be a great experience. However, the annoying fetch quests and time waster collectibles to fill in the game were ridiculous and you don’t get anything (besides the platinum trophy) for collecting all of the spirits so I took off points.

I understand that the world hasn't got much NPCs because it makes sense for the plot, but I feel like they could have made something work so that it didn't feel so boring and without any notable cool second characters or NPCs. Also I'd have like that they would have implemented some cooler animations for parkour, at least when jumping to something they could have made the hands hang on or something. Expand

Cool setting, but at the last 1/3 of the game the chapters are rushing , last 10 hours you play charpter 1-4 and from hour 10-12 you pass 3 charpters thats way to unbalanced. Also its (aspeccially in the end) very emotional but theres no relatible bond to his sister so I cant relate with him.

This is not that. This is a game that screams troubled development and a divided creative team. The game seems to be stuck between being a fast paced doom style fps, a gritty detective thriller and a traditional survival horror. It does these things competently but by trying to combine all these different elements it comes out a little hollow.

For example in combat there is a lot of Bullet Hell style projectiles flying at you yet you arent equipped with a dash or double jump so combat feels alot less fun and fast paced then it could have. Their are also only really 4 main upgradeable weapons and you get the fourth and final one not that far into the game making the game play loop a little more boring and uninteresting because of the lack of variety even if the visuals and animations are great. The game is completely bloodless too which makes the combat less punchy and satisfying because you're essentially just fighting semi tangible ghosts and i wish they could have somehow added some cool gore effects when using spells on ghosts. The game has a grapple move which i was initially thrilled with but it's honestly pretty limited and even if you gain the ability to grapple where you want, it's not really "anywhere" just predetermined spots and not to the kind of scale that a Arkham game would have. These undercooked elements scream of rushed deadline or late edition because i could absolutely see the traversal mechancis being loads of fun if the game had more time and focus.

On the Detective Thriller side of things a few of the side missions where you go into a building and talk to a ghost and help them move on are legitimately fun and interesting distractions. However, there are so many of these side missions that alot of them feel copy and pasted to fill out a map and i really think the game would have faired better with less but higher quality and original side missions. Investigations are okay with typical trailing style missions but the game would have benefitted with more interesting dialouge choices and ways to interact with the enviroment, maybe a Resident Evil style examine and inspect option could have helped make you feel way more like a detective prowling a crime scene.

On the Horror front, which i and many others initially believed the game to be, the game is a mixed bag. The monster design is great and wholly original in alot of ways and the inclusion of Yoki is also welcomed although i feel like their presence should have been more prominent. Despite these great designs however the game is never scary which would be okay because they are going for
something else, but the game is also not really that tense because of the plentiful resources and KK's commentary.

Although i've been bashing this game so far i do actually enjoy it. The combat isn't as good as it could have been but it's still really solid. The game has alot of charm and the world is interesting to explore even if some of the samey looking city locations get a little tiresome near the end. The sound design and animations are great and overall these elements did keep me hooked throughout the entire game. Another strength of this game is just how unique it is, the last big budget game with this level of unique style was probably Death Stranding, and although that game turned out better imo, it's still commendable that this got made.

Overall, i do not think this game is worth the money full price. It's just a little too scattershot for me to confidently say that i would recommend someone buy it right now. As soon as there is a price drop or sale then i honestly would recommend giving it ago, you might like it or hate it or somewhere in between but you definitely won't regret playing it and seeing what it's all about.

It's probably worth mentioning upfront that if you're not remotely interested in Japan, its culture or folklore then your enjoyment of this game will probably be significantly lessened as, at its core, its just another open world checklist game.

90% of the side content is basically experiencing Japanese urban legends and the main missions usually amount to little more than 'go here and have a fight, watch cutscene'. In truth, I'd struggle to tell you why I enjoyed this game as much as I did, yet I happily floated all over Tokyo getting 100% completion, and I'd probably do it all over again.

What's here is far from perfect, but I would really love for this game to perform well enough for a sequel because I think there's a rough diamond here that deserves to be polished.

By the end of the game the enemies are repeated ad nauseum and they turn into bullet sponges as the game progresses rather than use new moves to increase the difficulty. Story-
The story and character motivations are mostly back-loaded to the final chapter to where the final chapter feels like a movie that the developers wanted to show with the most story at the end so that it would be the last thing you may remember about the game and not that the middle portion was lacking in character progression comparatively. There are also some action events that take place in cutscenes such as driving a motorcycle that would have been fun to play instead of just watching the characters in a cutscene. Overall I would wait to pick up this game until it becomes $30 as once completing it you will not likely feel the need to revisit the game.

    1. TOO MANY COLLECTIBLES 2. Frame pacing issues in quality mode. Ultimately I had to settle for quality performance mode which limits resolution to 1080p with RT enabled as RT is must in this game.
    3. Screen tearing issues in some modes.

Super cool console exclusive that does a things little differently.

It had arrows and talisman which could help you during combat but the elements (wind, fire, water) are the star of the game and it was meh. The world of the game felt very empty for me, like there is not much to do and the exploration side was the same in every other area, there's nothing much to interact with, the only thing you could do in new areas is to collect spirits and complete side missions, and the side missions were not that interesting to begin with (some are interesting but mostly are not). I wouldn't recommend it at full price, I'd say go for it when it's on sale because it's honestly not worth it at all at full price. Overall, it was average at best for me. Expand

It should be said right away that Ghostwire Tokyo is clearly not for everyone, but no one can resist the views of Tokyo, the views of Shibuya. The views are as if from photographs, as if you are really in the center of Japan, the city looks so beautiful, in the light of bright signs and neons! But the city is empty, although not quite, but inhabited by ghosts, souls, and we, as the main character, will have to figure out what happened at all, and, of course, it will not do without assistants, and this is another plus. Although from a combat point of view, the game is not surprising at all, but it is interesting to fight here. Only the collection of various information, notes, souls and any other things that are presented in the game can tire you. Basically what happened to me. The plot is not so long, but most of the time is spent not even on the very study and knowledge of Tokyo, but on the search for things. And that's the problem with open worlds. And Ghostwire Tokyo was no exception. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall a well put game, a few bugs and glitches but loved the little humor that was in the game. There was a little bloat -a lot of side missions but can't complain about that, makes the game the way it is. I feel like the story could have been a bit longer, in the end the last 2 chapters felt rushed. Overall I would recommend to play the game at least once. I love that you can pet the dogs and interact with the cats my favorite part in the game Expand

Ghostwire does a couple of things right. The open world beautifully represents Tokyo for instance. The powers you get are cool in the beginning but the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive and tedious.

Good game. I liked the atmosphere and setting the most in this game. I really like the enemy designs and the combat may not be for everyone but very imaginative and one of a kind. Story overall though is very lacking.

Un juegazo adictivo de principio a fin con unos personajes con una carisma tremenda y una historia simple. Con una jugabilidad muy buena

I personally love the game. The setting, art style and overall vibe are wonderful. However, I do think this is a love/hate scenario and may not be for everyone.

Wanted to give it try and it was very enjoyable and smooth game. Story was pretty good and the city was very beautyful. Combat was little bit different than most games or that what i feel and it was smooth and funny.

Me he sentido como si visitara Tokyo, un espectáculo el ray tracing, me ha atrapado el juego.

Mucha carga emocional y combates desafiantes.

Desde luego tienen que jugarlo todos aquellos que disfrutan con el anime y lo japonés. Saludos!

Eu achei o jogo muuto bom. A coisa que eu mais amei foi ambientação de tóquio feita de forma tão detalhada.

Unique game. Light horror FPS game with gameplay that has action magic system in Japanese folklore theme happening in modern Tokyo. I really liked it. Story was a bit weaker and maybe too simple. Overall 8/10.

Interior decoration/design is detailed and realistic. Indoor missions are great and trippy or scary sometimes. The way you can interact with doors, vendors (which r cute cats btw), dogs (that can find things for you), bins, telephone booths etc. The variety of weapons at your disposal. Enemy/combat animations look and feel (thanks to the dual sense controller) great. The map and clothing/music options are simple and well-executed. Finally, the automatic saving is a relieving and uncommon feature in games these days.

What could have been improved: combat and enemy variety are a little repetitive and I wish there was a dash button. The parrying could have been more satisfying/refined. Also, the game asks you to collect 211,000 souls. It's a pretty absurd number, and something that is not rewarding. I also wish we could wield swords.

Conclusion: There is a lot to like about this creepy, unique, beautiful world. While the combat and music do not stand out as being exceptional, everything else: from the graphics, to the trippy indoor moments, to the japanese culture/lore to the enemy designs and the sound design/voice acting are great. I think gameranx's review of the game perfectly sums up my view. a good game not a great due to the repetitive nature and lack of activities to do in the world. a sequel has a lot of potential. I give the game 72/100

I've been playing for over 100 hours. My conclusion: I love Japanese horror. At night, you really feel fear. Although I didn't like the story very much, the action and exploring Tokyo were worth it. The enemies at first do not feel varied, but with the inclusion of the new DLC new ones were included giving the perception that there is more variety.

I missed at times when there were more

One's feelings about the game start with "oh my God, what did I buy", move on to "hey, it's not all bad - let's destroy one more tree", only to realize in the end that you're actually doing the same thing over and over again and that you could spend your time in a more entertaining way. Ghostwire: Tokyo is an interesting new mix of horror 'shooter' with excellent enemy design and aesthetics, but relies strongly on its eastern thematic to stay interesting past a certain playtime. However, despite the repetition, it does it's best to offer enough to keep players invested and interested enough with its variety and story, especially if you have even a slight interest in Japan or its vast mythology.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a memorable journey that never overstays its welcome. With a unique combat system and plenty of options for exploration, it makes an admirable effort to keep players engaged even after the credits roll.
