A fun, nostalgia-fuelled romp through three classic platformers. Whilst they are dated, the extra features alleviate some issues found in the original versions.

Gex Trilogy is a must-play for longtime fans of the series, and a brilliant introduction for newcomers, being a perfect way to definitely experience everything Gex has to offer. The three games in this collection are strikingly varied, frenetically engaging and are oozing with personality. Games from decades past they may well be, but Limited Run Games have done a spectacular job of balancing the preservation of their original essence with the addition of modern gameplay features.

The Gex Trilogy lives up to its name and brings all three Gex games to modern consoles. With solid quality-of-life updates and a nice array of bonus features, there’s a lot here for fans to sink their teeth into. While the 3D sequels haven’t aged like wine, they’re still interesting to revisit, and the original side-scroller is still quite a lot of fun.

Gex Trilogy offers easy access to the mascot trilogy that Crystal Dynamics decided to abandon in 1999. Although the games are fun, the collection falls short by not including access to different versions of each title. Furthermore, it lacks filters and extras that would justify buying this new bundle instead of opting for emulation solutions.

I didn't think we'd ever see Gex again but Gex Trilogy proves that this irreverent and charming series is definitely enjoyable and unique enough for today's gaming audiences. With that being said, the humour and visuals surely haven't held up as well as a gecko clinging to the ceiling.

The Gex Trilogy is a faithful adaptation of three fun games from a company with a storied history as Crystal Dynamics was involved in games like Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider. It can take some getting used to, but Limited Run Games are dedicated to keeping the original experience as close as possible to the original. And although we did get a nice improvement with the ability to reverse time, there are still some improvements I would like to have seen in these games such as that full free roaming camera, but I do understand them wanting to keep to the original experience as much as possible.

Though your fondness for the subject matter may vary, the Gex Trilogy is an easy recommendation for those pining to hear an outdated quip or two from a forgotten mainstay of the mascot era on modern consoles.

I do hope in the future, additional VAs are added to the game. I would love to see how Leslie Phillips and Danny John-Jules brought Gex to life. Perhaps, even a playable Gex Jr. in the future. Outside of Gex’s crass humor, genuinely solid 2D and 3D platformers await anyone willing to look past the age and appreciate the goodness that lies within. Yes, just like drinking tap water at Jerry Garcia’s house. [Highly Recommended]
