Jul 7, 2025A fun, nostalgia-fuelled romp through three classic platformers. Whilst they are dated, the extra features alleviate some issues found in the original versions.

Jun 17, 2025Gex Trilogy is a must-play for longtime fans of the series, and a brilliant introduction for newcomers, being a perfect way to definitely experience everything Gex has to offer. The three games in this collection are strikingly varied, frenetically engaging and are oozing with personality. Games from decades past they may well be, but Limited Run Games have done a spectacular job of balancing the preservation of their original essence with the addition of modern gameplay features.
-
Jun 16, 2025The Gex Trilogy lives up to its name and brings all three Gex games to modern consoles. With solid quality-of-life updates and a nice array of bonus features, there’s a lot here for fans to sink their teeth into. While the 3D sequels haven’t aged like wine, they’re still interesting to revisit, and the original side-scroller is still quite a lot of fun.
-
Jul 11, 2025Gex Trilogy offers easy access to the mascot trilogy that Crystal Dynamics decided to abandon in 1999. Although the games are fun, the collection falls short by not including access to different versions of each title. Furthermore, it lacks filters and extras that would justify buying this new bundle instead of opting for emulation solutions.

Jun 19, 2025I didn't think we'd ever see Gex again but Gex Trilogy proves that this irreverent and charming series is definitely enjoyable and unique enough for today's gaming audiences. With that being said, the humour and visuals surely haven't held up as well as a gecko clinging to the ceiling.

Jun 17, 2025The Gex Trilogy is a faithful adaptation of three fun games from a company with a storied history as Crystal Dynamics was involved in games like Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider. It can take some getting used to, but Limited Run Games are dedicated to keeping the original experience as close as possible to the original. And although we did get a nice improvement with the ability to reverse time, there are still some improvements I would like to have seen in these games such as that full free roaming camera, but I do understand them wanting to keep to the original experience as much as possible.

Jun 16, 2025Though your fondness for the subject matter may vary, the Gex Trilogy is an easy recommendation for those pining to hear an outdated quip or two from a forgotten mainstay of the mascot era on modern consoles.
-
Jun 29, 2025Gex Trilogy brings back from obscurity a mascot that exudes charisma and creativity, but that has not been well treated by time. With the many options we have today, whether from established names or indie producers, it is difficult to see how this triad would appeal to today's audience. This collection has its charm, but it is likely to attract only older gamers purely for its nostalgic appeal.
-
Jun 26, 2025The Gex Trilogy brings back one of the many forgotten mascots of the '90s, offering all three games to today’s audience with minimal changes. While the first title hasn’t aged particularly well and is fairly forgettable by modern standards, the second and third entries still stand out as solid examples of collectathon platformers. They're a perfect time capsule of the '90s, with well-designed levels and a charismatic lead—though the American voiceover can be grating, so we recommend switching to the PAL dub if that option is available. It might be a little too late to give Gex a proper comeback, but hope springs eternal, and this trilogy is well worth revisiting regardless of its protagonit's future.

Jun 17, 2025The games found in Gex Trilogy are better than I thought they would be. I was especially surprised by how much I enjoyed the original Gex. These are dated, but solid mascot platformers. As a package, Gex Trilogy has a lot of the modern quality of life features players would expect, as well as a slew of extras. But there could have been more. The Game Boy Color, N64, and international versions of the games are absent. I would recommend Gex Trilogy to fans of retro platformers, who’ve played all the classics. These games aren’t must-play, but are a great option for someone wanting more platforming titles in their library.
-
Jun 16, 2025The GEX Trilogy won’t convert new fans, but for those raised on tail-whips and TV parodies, it’s a nostalgia-packed return. A solid, if safe, remaster that could’ve done more but still lets Gex channel surf once more with style.
-
Jun 16, 2025Gex Trilogy brings back three moderately sucessful games from decades ago as part of a preservation iniatiative from Limited Run Games. The Carbon Engine introduces new features which make the games a more pleasant experience overall, but the games on their own will hardly appeal to players who don't already have a nostalgic connection to them.
-
Jun 29, 2025The Gex Trilogy bundles up a trio of middling to good platformers together and places them on modern platforms, with the perk of playing them with modern features like rewind, screen ratio adjustments and more. For fans of the games in their day, there’s some nostalgic fun to be found here, but if you’re new to the IP and are considering picking them up, well, in the immortal (and well-worn) words of Gex himself – Fuhgeddaboutit

Aug 1, 2025Ultimately, Gex Trilogy feels like a product designed more to honor the past than to ignite a new future for the franchise. It’s a loving archival effort that will undoubtedly please those who grew up with the sarcastic lizard, but it’s unlikely to convert new fans unfamiliar with his antics. With platforming having evolved significantly since Gex’s heyday, these titles feel more like relics — albeit entertaining ones — than evergreen classics. Gex Trilogy isn’t a reinvention; it’s a digital museum exhibit. Polished just enough to be playable by today’s standards, it offers a fun — if dated — experience for retro enthusiasts and collectors. But outside of nostalgia, its appeal is limited. A charming preservation effort, not a platforming revival.
-
Jul 20, 2025While it includes some welcome additions like widescreen support and improved analog controls for the 3D entries, this compilation feels incomplete due to the absence of several versions, lack of translations, and questionable choices like removing original save systems; still, it offers a decent way to revisit or discover this quirky platforming trilogy if you manage your expectations.
-
Jul 29, 2025The Gex Trilogy is a mostly great re-release of the 90s cult classic. The series has been lovingly preserved for modern audiences, maintaining the gameplay, humor, dialogue, and style of Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex: Deep Cover Gecko. However, while the new bonus features are a great touch, the lack of vital quality-of-life additions and certain features from the PAL version for instance, make it a hard game to justify purchasing for $40.
-
Jul 21, 2025GEX Trilogy is ultimately a good collection of the main GEX games, but it’s not a very good game because none of the games it collects are very fun. Those with nostalgia for the character will surely find some enjoyment in revisiting his adventures after all these years, but anyone who didn’t enjoy the character twenty five years ago will be better served checking out the many better platformers available on modern platforms.

Jul 10, 2025At least, this trilogy confirms a good trend: preserving old works, even iconic ones in their own small way, without distorting them. Good for the preservation, a little worse for the taste: in the end, it seems almost like putting some soup in the freezer in 1995 and taking it out in 2025. Gex is one of those mascots buried by history and it's only right that he enjoys his quarter of an hour of fame again, but it wouldn't have hurt to have done some work on cleaning up the original code, at least in the second and third episodes, the three-dimensional ones, which today are quite out of time and out of context to be fully enjoyed. In any case, let's applaud the attempt to provide new bread for the nostalgics of that golden era called the 90s.
-
Jul 8, 2025Gex Trilogy is undoubtedly a fascinating time travel back to the 90's, and I can recommend the trip to nostalgics, those who have missed the character's prime time, and simply for people who are curious about the 90's. BUT: it must be emphasized that it is very much a product of its time in both look and sound (yes, not all the jokes have necessarily aged gracefully), so it’s not something I’d recommend to newcomers right off the bat.

Jun 16, 2025I do hope in the future, additional VAs are added to the game. I would love to see how Leslie Phillips and Danny John-Jules brought Gex to life. Perhaps, even a playable Gex Jr. in the future. Outside of Gex’s crass humor, genuinely solid 2D and 3D platformers await anyone willing to look past the age and appreciate the goodness that lies within. Yes, just like drinking tap water at Jerry Garcia’s house. [Highly Recommended]
