    One of the best FFs out there. In top 5. Great story and gameplay. One of the best casts since FFX. My personal GOTY.

    Created an account to write my first review. Amazing game. No it isn’t a traditional rpg but you can’t rate a game for what it isn’t I’m eating it for what it is. I docked one point for the performance issues that I’m hoping will be fixed with patches.

    Even if Final Fantasy XVI is not perfect and has some notable flaws, it is a game with true heart and very clear ideas of what it wants to deliver, and that is very rare these days. The game has no fear of being disruptive with what FF is, or by extension what a JRPG is, with a lot of success in most aspects. The music is glorious, the art direction is great, narrative is hypnotizing andEven if Final Fantasy XVI is not perfect and has some notable flaws, it is a game with true heart and very clear ideas of what it wants to deliver, and that is very rare these days. The game has no fear of being disruptive with what FF is, or by extension what a JRPG is, with a lot of success in most aspects.     An easy action game for 5 year olds who have to learn shapes and colors.....
    And the "modes" unlocked after beating the game are always too easy, even for a casual.
    Final Fantasy 16 fails to engage with the plot which, if we exclude the beginning, only gets worse until its very bad conclusion.
    Probably among the worst endings of the franchise.

    This is a fantastic game! My favorite Final Fantasy is FFX, then VI and then VII. However, this is pretty close to VI and VII. The combat is soooo good and addicting and, while this has a darker story, it is very thought provoking and takes risks. Characters are fantastic and voice acting is superb. The story is linear and this is a zone-based game rather than open world, but it is a goodThis is a fantastic game! My favorite Final Fantasy is FFX, then VI and then VII. Performance does suffer if you want 60fps but it’s still well worth it. The problem that you’ll see here on Metacritic is that many Final Fantasy fan boys miss the golden days of Final Fantasy (FF1 - FF10). They are angry that the franchise is evolving (combat system, party system, etc.). This game is very divisive, as was FFXV. However, though their opinion may be valid, I recommend that you try the game regardless. This is a FANTASTIC game. If you like story and good combat, this is for you.     A flashy but generic AAA action JRPG with a lot of cut-scenes, this FF sequel is highly entertaining but lacks the iconic feel of its predecessors.

    Pros: - Visually heavy and very casual friendly. You can sit back and relax without sweating your hands 80% of the time. - The combat system is fun and totally stress-free for an action game.     Cons:
    - Unnecessary but lengthy cutscenes are VERY distracting when you just want to PLAY a GAME.
    - Mostl. Linear. Final Fantasy. Ever. In terms of everything. Especially exploration.
    - Unable to turn off motion blur. May suffer.

    Good game overall. Shouldn't be hard to actually flesh out the RPG elements, exploration, world map, side quests, mini games, and epic dungeons with the budget Square has though. Like, you can change your game and update the combat but there's no excuse for not developing all those other things. Fun game though, combat and story are good, which again they should be with the budget they have.

    Compre la versión coleccionista y no me arrepiento de lo que gasté, su historia es muy buena, asi como su banda sonora, su jugabilidad totalmente distinta pero algo muy divertido que a la final de eso trata los videos juegos, personajes muy entrañables, es decir un Final Fantasy a toda regla.

    I’m only about midway through, but so far this is pretty solid game. Having never played 14, and trying twice and never being able to get through 15, I’m having a blast. It definitely isn’t a 10 out of 10 game, but also isn’t anywhere close to a zero like the review bombers would indicate.

On the other hand, I’m a bit annoyed that they went more action, but incredibly powerful characters can’t climb a fence or some fallen stones. I don’t mind the liberality so much, but the obstacles keeping you on course really break immersion. It’s not a home run, but the losers giving it a zero need to get a life.     I could give it an 11/10, but it's only a 10 because it won't have a sequel.

    Final fantasy is an excellent game, the narration is beautiful, the combat system is compelling, the graphics sector of unheard-of beauty. A game that rightly revolutionizes the way of playing Final Fantasy. Game strongly recommended for both new players and veteran players of the brand.

    This game may not be perfect, but giving it a negative score is absurd. The story is excellent, the characters are well fleshed out, the combat is fun and intuitive when you actually try, and the music is phenomenal. Not to mention that this is a game that looks stunning.

    Gran juego me a encantado la verdad soy fan de Final Fantasy y se los anteriores FF siempre me a gustado asi de combates de turnos pero este cambia todo eso a hackslah la historia muy buena los combates epicos una banda sonora increíble lo estoy disfrutando como no se imaginan un gran juego le doy mi merecido 10

    It's missing that classic turn based combat that help the old games pop. I mean. 50 hour game playing as one character? No thanks you. Old Final Fantasy 4 - 10 let me play as multiple characters. Finak Fantasy 9 has a better story and characters and music than Final Fantasy 16.

    First impressions are positive. I’m having a lot of fun. The story is gripping and the combat is fun. Visually it’s great.

    Don’t like the lack of build diversity. It would have been nice to have multiple options here as you only play one character. Also during combat, the ability to switch focus to an enemy of your choosing is not there and this makes for close quarters fights vs lots    First impressions are positive. I’m having a lot of fun. The fights vs the bosses have been great so far except one I won’t name where again it suffers because multiple enemies are on screen and you can’t easily switch focus between the two and a dodge will automatically switch your focus.

    There isn’t very interesting gear options pretty much like most ff games, I think that is an area where square could improve. There isn’t much point in exploration either. I think for a story driven action game it is great but the rpg elements are lacking.    … Expand

No one is asking for the FF franchise to be completely changed. They need a game director for FF17 to do the whole "back to our roots" thing. It doesn't even have to be turn based combat. Where is this need coming from? No one is asking for the FF franchise to be completely changed. They need a game director for FF17 to do the whole "back to our roots" thing. It doesn't even have to be turn based combat. There are other FF staples that were just totally ripped out for this game and I don't understand why. At best as just a straight up cinematic action game this game is a 7. Putting the FF title, and even more so making it a mainline numbered FF and not even a spin off like stranger of paradise, this is a 5. So I'm splitting it and giving it a 6. A lot of reviewers have already covered this stuff in detail. But in short the itemisation is a complete joke. Crafting is completely pointless. Leveling up and skills feel worthless. Exploration has zero reward. And combat itself feels just ok. Some of my biggest disappointments are the total lack of the party. Sometimes you do have pals along side but they may as well not even be there. All they do is move along the story/plot. There is no change in combat when party members are with you. Most of them don't stay around long enough to develop any bond or attachment. I don't know. I'm just very disappointed. At the end of the day it just isn't a Final Fantasy. It's a straight up cinematic action game with a very obviously slapped on attempt at RPG mechanics and somewhat fun but pretty shallow combat. Ugh. I just want a good mainline FF title. To compare this to original FF7 or even 6 is just painful.… Expand

    People are very blatantly review bombing the game, so here are some of the things I've noticed

    -"The game isn't an RPG" Sure the game doesn't allow you to fully customize your parties abilities, but you can change out Clives eikon based abilities to what you desire, and there are plenty of abilities to combine, it may not be a classic RPG system, but the elements are still there.

    -"Bad pacing" This is somewhat understandable about 40% through the game, but the story just had a pivotal moment, and can't maintain a super engaging/exciting story directly after something like that, no game or show can. Some people even go as far to say cutscenes arent skippable, which is just plain out false, you just need to pause and hold triangle...

    A fantastic final fantasy game albeit a bit different with the combat, you still have your traditional party however, and the action set peices definitely deliver.

    Um dos jogos mais incríveis que já joguei. Uma experiência obrigatória para os fãs da franquia e também para novos jogadores. Gameplay muito viciante, história absurda e muito bem elaborada. Fico feliz por ter a oportunidade de acompanhar o desenvolvimento da franquia.

    A very good game. Combat is fun, story is solid, and music is great! It’s not the best Final Fantasy title by any means.. But it’s certainly better than XV and XIII. A solid B tier game. My only gripes are the lack of an actual party, and too many cutscenes in the first act.

    Easiest Final Fantasy game ever.
    The only one where not only have I never had a Game Over even in secondary hunts, but I've hardly ever needed to use objects.
    Played and finished in 28 hours, and brought back to Gamestop.
    To see how this series fell so low is just sad

    Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
