Cutscenes are like something out of a movie and there are so many cool sections throughout the story that aren't just about combat but also about activities like riding a bike. And it delivered!

It has all that nostalgia. The music was better, the visuals, and voice acting obviously better. But also it was very well designed, like it looked how I wanted it to look. They completely nailed the aesthetic and vibe. Which is the most important in a FF game. The game play is also a perfect mix of RPG, strategy, and action.

The story is actually easier to follow. The whispers are edgelord cringe, but it actually makes sense by the end. I actually really like how they said the story can deviate from the OG, I love that I don`t know for 100% sure how things will be, because the story is new.

There are story sections that are way better this time, for example the honeybee inn.

it has enough (and interesting) side quests to make the city feel bigger, but not too much to make it annoying and MMO like.

It is a perfect mix of goofy, silly, cute, and serious.

The personality of the main cast is more interesting and multi faceted. Especially Yuffie.

Yuffie DLC has a really interesting combat system with synergy. All the characters feel unique in combat.

Therefore it is a perfect remake. And a 10/10.

This is the best kind of compromise for people who likes turn base game play.
The Materia system allows for deep customization. you have a party system and can switch between your party members as indented for a FF game.

The Definitive Edition of the best Final Fantasy game to date, now including a very well made Expansion and some very important technical improvements.

My introduction into the world of Final Fantasy.
I'm actually speechless, this game is absolutely incredible. it's bigger and better than the original in every possible way, a huge improvement when it comes to the visuals, gameplay, animations, character models and pretty much everything you can think of.

I'm going to start with the gameplay first, well what can I say, oh my freaking god, arguably the best combat system i've ever seen in a videogame to date, the mix of Turn Based with Real Time Action is honestly flawless, it works perfectly and it feels very satisfying. The materia system is amazing, there is a lot of customization, it's easy to use and understand and makes the combat so unique and enjoyable. Also the boss fights are insane, there are so many of them, and they are quite challenging, you can't really play mindlessly and expect to win easily, you actually need patience and strategy to beat them, and I really liked that.

Now when it comes to the characters, I think they're great, they have likeable personalities and slowly develop pretty well, their designs are fantastic and memorable, and you really get to bond with them which makes you feel like you're part of the team.

It's worth to mention that the game is actually very big, the world feels alive despite being limited, you can just get lost in it. There is a lot of content, side quests, various minigames, VR missions and rewarding activities, so many things to do and places to explore, it's a pretty long experience and it's also very replayable, trying out new builds and doing the challenges is very fun.

As for the main story, it starts pretty tame but things go wild quick, and even though it drags quite a bit later on, there are so many spectacles in it, some of the cutscenes are just cinematic masterpieces, everything looks gorgeous.
The only issue I have with the story is the writing and some of the dialogue, it's pretty interesting for the most part, but it can get quite weak sometimes, some plot points aren't explained well and don't really make sense either, the story is clearly unfinished and I'm hoping the sequels do a decent job at explaining few things. I respect the fact that the writers managed to surpass our expectations by altering parts of the overarching story, it's a very risky but ambitious thing to do, and I really want them to nail it and achieve their goal. Overall I like the story a lot, and I believe that it's only going to get better from now on, I'm very excited to see how everything turns out in the end.

Lastly, I really need to mention the stellar soundtrack, it's just so beautiful, one of the most iconic and magical soundtracks in a JRPG ever.

It really is an outstanding videogame, It's not only an improved version of the original Final Fantasy VII, but it stands on its own very well. I would go as far to say that this is the definitive Remake, and the best Remake I've ever played.

    Final Rating: "Excellent" ~ 9.5/10.

Original was fantastic game in 1997, but it's obvious that it needed and deserved well made upgrade and that's exactly what this first part of the remake trilogy is. The game's outstanding soundtrack lives up to the franchise's reputation, immersing players in a world of unforgettable melodies. The well-implemented RPG elements grant players a plethora of strategic approaches, enhancing the overall gameplay.

However, Final Fantasy VII Remake is not without its flaws. The inclusion of filler dragging areas prolongs the main story, resulting in a slower pace that may disappoint some players. Boring dialogues and lackluster side quests further contribute to a less captivating narrative. Additionally, the game suffers from some major graphic issues, detracting from the otherwise visually impressive world.

Despite its shortcomings, Final Fantasy VII Remake remains a must-play for its exceptional battle system, remarkable soundtrack, and strategic RPG elements. While the slower-paced story and graphical issues may hinder the overall experience, the game still manages to capture the essence of the beloved classic while introducing new and exciting elements.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Haven't had to force myself through a game in a long time... but here we are.

Chapters 7-9 are some of the most slow and boring content I have played in a game in a long time. I had to break 9 and its unending series of fetch quests up over a month period to stomach getting through it (not to mention the cringe dance sequence).

The combat is just okay. Enemies are damage sponges and it is more flash over substance or depth. It is a series of rinse and repeat combat rooms for the most part and gets old after a while.

The progression system is weird and nothing but a percentage game offering very little past that.

The writing for the dialogue is pretty bad. I love JRPGs but compared to something like Persona 5 Royal it borders on cringe.

The dual sense experience is lackluster here, which was very sad because I love the controller's features on an immersion level.

The game looks beautiful, that is a positive. It is very polished and bug free.

I would skip this game honestly.

Even better than the original version. Don't expect to play the same thing you played on your PSX. It's an entire new game. Is something like a reboot and a remake at the same time. The only thing that keeps me out of giving it a 10/10 it's the difficult settings. The game is pretty hard, even on situations that needs to push you forward, and not to retain you on that level.

The characters are some of the most engaging and likable characters I've seen in a while, and even some minor side-characters surprised me a lot.
The combat system is excellent! It's like a combination of Hack 'n' Slash & Turn Based at the same time, there are 4 completely different party members to control, tons of different skills, items and builds to use, it's deep and organic, it feels awesome and it looks phenomenal! The RPG elements are executed well and the Materia system is just wonderful.
The bosses are some of the best I've ever encountered in a videogame.
The music is fantastic for sure and it fits the visuals perfectly, and the visuals are breathtaking; the lighting, the animations, the textures and the setting are some of the best I've seen in a while.
Also, the set pieces and the visual representation are absolutely top-tier! Some cutscenes look like they are out of a CGI movie and there are so many jaw-dropping moments.
Lastly, the Intergrade version includes the INTERmission DLC, which is a cool addition to get to know an upcoming character for the Remake series.
I do have few minor complaints with the game though; some chapters feel significantly longer than they should've been, and the side-quests are uninteresting for the most part.

The whispers that were introduced are immersion breaking for my taste since they feel like a deus ex machina. All around the game is fun which is why I still would rate it rather high.

As a long-time fan of the original Final Fantasy VII, I approached this remake with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Yet, within moments of diving into the world of Midgar once again, any doubts were washed away, replaced by sheer awe and admiration for what Square Enix has achieved.

From the moment I booted up the game, I was captivated by the stunning visuals. The enhanced graphics, thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5, are nothing short of breathtaking. The vibrant and meticulously detailed environments, the intricate character designs, and the spellbinding cinematic sequences blend seamlessly together, creating a visual feast that surpasses the boundaries of what I believed was possible.

But it's not just the graphics that make Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade shine. The gameplay has been fine-tuned to perfection. The combat system strikes a harmonious balance between the strategic elements of the original game and the real-time action of modern gaming. Each battle is a thrilling dance, requiring swift reflexes, tactical decision-making, and flawless execution. Whether you prefer hacking away with Cloud's iconic Buster Sword or casting spells with Aerith's magical prowess, every character feels unique and deeply satisfying to control.

The addition of the all-new episode featuring Yuffie Kisaragi is an absolute delight. This fan-favorite character is brought to life with incredible depth and charm, and her story intertwines seamlessly with the main narrative, providing fresh perspectives and surprises along the way. Yuffie's gameplay mechanics, with her acrobatic ninja-like moves and the lovable spirit companion, Sonon, add a new layer of excitement to the already stellar gameplay formula.

One aspect that deserves special praise is the exceptional musical score. Nobuo Uematsu's masterful compositions from the original game are reimagined and enhanced, evoking powerful emotions that complement the on-screen events perfectly. Whether it's the epic bombast of the battle themes or the heart-wrenching melodies that accompany emotionally charged moments, the soundtrack adds an extra layer of depth to an already immersive experience.

Beyond the technical and gameplay achievements, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade manages to capture the essence of the original game while introducing new surprises. The narrative is an absolute triumph, delivering a gripping and emotionally charged storyline that strikes a delicate balance between nostalgia and innovation. The characters are brought to life with such depth and authenticity that you'll find yourself invested in their journeys, sharing their joys, sorrows, and triumphs.

Square Enix has not only recreated a beloved classic but expanded upon it, raising the bar for what a remake can be. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a testament to the power of storytelling, showcasing the potential of video games as an art form. It captures the spirit of the original while pushing boundaries and challenging conventions.

In conclusion, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a masterpiece, a game that stands tall among the greatest of its generation. With its breathtaking visuals, refined gameplay mechanics, memorable characters, and a narrative that will leave you craving for more, it redefines what it means to remake a beloved classic. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the original or a newcomer to the world of Final Fantasy VII, this game is an absolute must-play, and a true testament to the power of gaming as a medium of storytelling. Prepare to be enchanted, enthralled, and ultimately, transformed by this remarkable experience.

The 3-4 hours of additional story do however feel abit too short to warrant its standalone price so I would suggest waiting out for a sale. My issues with this game are still the same regardless of the new quality of life updates. I still feel chapter 11 was weak, unnecessary and very boring to playthrough, Cloud as a character despite having his reasons for lack of emotions can feel really awkward and soulless in his interactions with other characters which also stems into another issue which is some of the writing is really poor and sometimes even corny which can bring players out of the immersion. In addition, the world, districts and areas you tackle throughout your journey in Midgard can be encountered with very tedious, boring and uninspired side content which is usually your typical fetch quest which sucks. However, if this is your first time playing or if you are a really big fan of remake then I would definitely recommend this version of the game as it is the most definitive experience that is on offer currently and for those that love story-driven adventures, jrpgs and fun combat then I would encourage you play this game as it is one of the best jrpgs out. Bottom Line:

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a fantastic remake of the first act of Final Fantasy VII. It isn’t a 1-1 remake and there are changes to the narrative, but most of it is very faithful to the original source material. This game is a caricature of the original. Chalk full of filler quests and plot holes. The graphics are great. The boss fights are well done. But Barrett voice acting is super cringe. + Gorgeous
    + Incredible Combat
    + Outstanding Characters
    + Charming Dialogue
+ Magnificent Soundtrack, they didn’t need every single chapter to have its own variation on the battle theme but wow am I glad they do.
+ Story is wonderful, Midgar no longer feels like a starting city that only exists to kick the plot off, but instead like a living, breathing, city that is truly important to the cast and their development. The ending was unexpected, but makes me hopeful for how the story will continue to change in future installments.
    + 9 DIFFERENT DRESSES
    + THE HONEYBEE INN
+ The two Intermission Chapters were good, but not as good as the base game. It was interesting to see the consequences of the main party’s actions from another perspective.
    + HARD MODE
    + Chapter Select
+ Materia System is still great
+ Weapon Evolution is great, it gets rid of the old formula, [New Shop = New Weapon + Sell Old Weapon] which was boring and lame.
+ Combat simulator eventually becomes absurdly difficult, so buckle up and get good if you want that Bahamut summon.

    Cons:

-The Intermission was held back by Yuffie not being able to interact with the main party, but this could become a positive in the future because of how the story is set up for the sequel.

-The “Dressed to the Nines” Achievement requires at least 3 playthroughs of Chapter 3, Chapter 6, and Chapter 7. The choice of which dress you get for Tifa is available in Chapter 3 only after all side-quests are completed. The dress you get for Aerith is dependent on the number of side-quests completed in Chapter 6. The dress you get for Cloud is dependent both on the number of sidequests and which side-quests are completed in Chapter 7. This is tedious, especially because the game doesn’t tell you which ones you’ve previously done, only how many you’ve done, so you must keep track yourself if you want to complete the achievement after playing each chapter 3 times.

Overall this game is phenomenal. Play it. Some achievements can be tedious, and if you want to get all of the dresses, get ready for some tedium, though the reason I wanted to 100% this game in the first place was because it was so good that I actively looked for an excuse to keep playing. This game is a treat for any player.

Characters are unlikeable. Cloud and Aerith are awful. Secondary characters like Johnny and Kyrie get too much screen time and are more meme than human. There’s also an uncomfortable alliance with ‘The Trio’ even though they are sex traffickers. This game almost glorifies the villains, and the heroes just kinda suck.

Environments are static and lifeless, there are next to no interactions, or world building. In fact there are numbers of opportunity to insert lore and it’s absent.

Without mentionning the story pacing, the story and lore would've really beneficiated from an M rating. People underestimate this rating and it goes way beyond blood splatting and gore. See Wall Market and the prostitution + sex slavery themes that the arc talks about? Or Cloud's PTSD events? Shinra's immoral research on humans? All those strong themes really suffered from being talked under a T rating and really deserved to be explained with a mature and unrestricted perspective. When you talk about such themes, you don't take gloves as if your public is composed of teenagers because the original FF7 was geared towards a more mature audience.
Now, the story pacing also suffered from all the unnecessary events and subquests that have been added to stretch out the playtime because Midgar's arc in the original only lasted 30 minutes. But fortunately, it really gets insanely better towards the end when the game really throws you epic moments after epic moments with nearly no pause at all. But still, the story pacing could have been avoided if the game was complete and tried to stick more to the original story as Nomura suggested (Whispers weren't his ideas).
At the end of the day, if you're not too picky, you'll go easily through the pacing and T rating, especially with how insane and cinematic the mise-en-scene is, how fun the combats are and how full of life is Midgar (though imo, Midgar's life should have been a bit toned down in terms of mood because in the original game, the city was described as really dark and depressive where the people were not as happy as in Remake).

The only part in which the game delivers in abundance are the cutscenes, and boy do they take much space of the game. Well the problem is, i bought a game and not a CGI movie. I play games to have an active time, if i wanna sit passively on the couch i would have chosen to watch a movie or some series. I played the game together with a friend, there were numerous times someone got the controller handed just to lay it back down after holding it for ten minutes during another cutscene-fest. I know very well that cutscenes have been an important part in FF7, but the former parts usually had long stretches of free gameplay and freedom so the breaks were spread out widely and thus not interrupting the gameplay. The remake has barely any freedom in gameplay nor any interesting parts or longer stretches of pure playing, it basically feels like the game is playing you, only needing the player to get to the next loading zone starting another cutscene. I know many people view it differently, but for me cutscenes, no matter how many hours there are, are a small percentage of the whole presentation. So if it comes to rate the game, id give cutscenes a 10/10, which is great, but it only determines around five percent of the games overall rating, so you can put in as many hours as you want, it wont be a better game at the end, i dont care. I take the other 20 hours of the actual game and rate that accordingly, like the cutscenes wouldnt even exist, which leaves you with an absolute garbage game no one would even remotely think about giving a proper rating. Dont get fooled by eyecandy and looks, it drags you away from viewing things as they really are. Actual gameplay, as already mentioned, is streamlined to the max. There is not one situation in the game that needs your decisions, not even thoughts. Its as casual as it can get, feels terribly bland and its not worth at all diving into any builds for your characters, because your party isnt together anyway for the most part of the game. Dont even bother building one char as support, because chances are extremely high after the next cutscene this char will be removed from the party for another 8 hours (6 hours of cutscenes) and you need another character to do the job. Just build every char as allrounder so they can to everything on your own, it wont give you good damage or fun with different classes, but there are no real mechanics anyway that matter a lot in terms of fighting, the game, as mentioned, just needs you to get to the next cutscene, after that almost all your former gear gets useless anyway because you reached the new tier items without even realising. To the people that say "not every gamer enjoys the hardcore-postgame and grind, some just want have a relaxing gaming time after a days work" i will only reply: imagine getting home after a hard day, looking forward to play two hours of fine FF7 gameplay because thats all the precious time you got, then after those two hours you watched 103 minutes of cutscenes, spent 11 minutes in the menu trying to figure out if you need sth. for the upcoming fights and a whooping six minutes of actual gameplay. No thanks, how frustrating. Play Uncharted or the Last of Us if you wanna have a good casual gaming experience. For me the new FF7 experience is a true disappointment, and by shattering their masterpiece into pieces, Square Enix undoubtedly showed their only aim is to squeeze as much money out of it as possible. Have fun paying 400 bucks for a 5 piece set of CGI movies with some gameplay on top of it, im gonna play the original instead and celebrate a true game. Expand

The game looks and feels pretty good, but my enthusiasm decreased drastically after I reached the 1st settlement. FF7 Remake is the worst Final Fantasy game I've played.
A trash game badly optimized, without any kind of soul from the original game.
An atrocious, monotonous and ridiculous rubbish that reduces the plot to an insipid and diluted mush with an embarrassing script and dialogue. This "Remake" menage to ruin every single aspect of the original story, even of the characters (since in this

This "Remake" menage to ruin every single aspect of the original story, even of the characters (since in this game they become horrible and flat stereotypes).
The gameplay sucks, and the "world" of the game has no soul, considering that Midgard is the main city of the original, in this FF7R it becomes flat and ridiculous to visit.

A bad game that I do not recommend to anyone who is a fan of the series, and an embarrassing whim perpetrated by Nomura and with the concession of a Square Enix now in disarray.
Avoid this messy **** because isn't worth your money.

I started getting sick or tired of those "remakes" and "remastered" junks so I had a bias on this one too but geez masterpiece game is a masterpiece game. Throughout the play I felt it is bit old fashioned but overall the game itself was fantastic. Really looking forward to see FF XVI this year!

I don't really play single player games, I found games like god of War, ghost of tsushima and horizon zero dawn extremely boring, as they're all trying to be movies instead of an actual game... It's fantastic from start to end. Pulled many a heart string. Pros : Story is still fantastic. Graphically sound. The musical score feel very fresh bringing in the elements of the past into it.
Battles are quick and fluid. Combat system is great design. Very polished.

Cons: I feels it's a bit short. At 30 hours to 100% completion. Bummer you can't retrace steps to previous zones until the end of the game. If you missed a small detail, you will need to finish the game before you can return the to chapter.

Overall : Fantastic from start to finish. If they build from this for the next 2 enstallments, things will be looking up. 9/10

One of the greatest rpgs of the modern era, found the combat to be intuitive, deep, and fun. Marvelous soundtrack, great graphics, good story. Not many complains, though there are some sluggish parts. I'd give it a 91.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade shows the correct way to conclude a console generation’s journey. But beware - the Intermission episode won’t really satisfy the hunger for the next instalment - on the contrary, your impatience will probably only increase.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a complete package, telling the story of Midgar from two different perspectives. Both the main campaign following Cloud and his journey, and Yuffie's own adventure, are well told with tight and responsive gameplay along with an impressive graphical update. These tales each leave exciting questions to be answered, and this reviewer can't wait to see what awaits Cloud and his friends beyond the City of Mako.

Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade is technically impressive. Fixing many of the original release’s technical issues while also improving the game for next-gen hardware. INTERmission offers an excellent character edition with that of Yuffie with some excellent gameplay to boot. Intergrade is simply more of the best parts of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
