This game lives up to the hype. The world concept and art are some of the best I've seen in a decade, and the performance optimization is nothing short of miraculous for a startup company founded to make this game. The gameplay is also a well rounded FPS action game that is reliably fun.

Ignore the cries of some haters who probably haven't played the game and don't understand the core of the game (which is the grind, always has been). New activities, new strike, new raid (coming soon) and much more to explore in this new expansion (apart from the new meta).

It's worth playing, for anyone who really understands what the game is about and has probably been playing since D1. Peace!

I'll admit, I'm writing this because I've seen so much negativity about Lightfall and I just don't get it. This has been a fantastic expansion and I can't wait for what's coming up from Destiny! This has been a fantastic expansion and I can't wait for what's coming up from Destiny! I loved Witch Queen too, but I have to say that when it ended I felt like we were kind of just waiting for another year until the Black Fleet showed up. In contrast, I really don't know what to expect after Lightfall and I'm very excited by that.

The story was not what I expected, and Bungie took some bold moves in the end. There are some weak points to the narrative, with the intro to the Cloudstriders feeling somewhat rushed, and lots of questions left unanswered. But personally I wasn't expecting to understand everything with this expansion; it seemed clear that we were going to be fighting was a war, and a war is what we get. The new campaign was a tough play through on Legendary, and there's a great final fight (even though I can now find or think of strats to melt the boss way more easily).

The narrative really puts our Guardian in the context of a single soldier in the middle of an impossible battle, with a race against the clock to figure out how to stop Calus from getting what the Witness needs to destroy the traveler. It's also a bit of an homage to 80s movies, more than just with the aesthetics, which I think they pulled off well. Strand is a part of this, and I think they narratively and mechanically incorporated it into the game in an overall better way than with Stasis. Speaking of Strand, it's been a blast to play with and feels strong with the right combo of fragments now available (I love my hordes of Threadlings!). Not sure yet about the revamped mod system, but I like the change to artifact mods and the removal of elemental affinity for armor. The loadout system also seems to be solid overall, and gives you almost instant swapping of builds. The new gear has been really fun too, with post campaign quests adding more and more to the story while we get our new shiny exotics.

In short, take the negative reviews with a big grain of salt. There's a lot to love in Lightfall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lightfall is definitely a great addition to the destiny universe, I enjoyed the campaign from start to finish and the new environment/destination has a very cyberpunky feel to it.

The only downside to the dlc is explanations to the story ..... The veil, what is it and why are we trying to protect it and Calus such a big bad boss just to be played by the witness and killed off. Thought he was gonna be a raid boss. But kudos to Bungie all in all I'm happy with Lightfall

Overall, not recommended if you're new to Destiny and looking to jump in. Has it's fair share of good bits, but horribly misses the mark in aspects that had improved in Chosen and beyond.

The good: Strand is stupid fun when you're allowed to let loose. Once again, the art and sound teams steal the show. Neomuna is a lot smaller than expected, but manages to stay interesting and fun to explore. Bungie nails the vibe of an 80s action movie (training montage included.) Calus and The Witness have good interactions and play off each other fairly well.

The bad: The main campaign is a mess on nearly every level. There is a significant tonal dissonance between the apocalyptic severity of what's supposed to be going on and how characters such as Nimbus actually react.
The Veil is never explained, turning this into a chase the maguffin story. The comparison to Infinity War has been made, I believe by Bungie themselves, but with Infinity War, you *know* the stakes. Lose the stones, half of all life gets dusted. Here, the Witness gets the Veil and...something really bad will happen. This is made worse by the fact that the other people in the story, such as Nimbus and Osiris, know what the Veil is.
What there is of the story is focused on getting Strand under control to the point that it actively harms the rest of the story. I maybe could have tolerated a seasonal story focused on getting Strand, but this is an annual DLC. Not just the annual DLC, this is the *2nd to last* annual DLC for this entire saga. A not insignificant portion of the time spent focusing on Strand could have been used to fix the other issues going on in the story.
When you do get Strand as an actual subclass, it's main selling point, the grapple hook, has it's cooldown nerfed significantly. Hesitant to include this as a criticism because it could be fixed down the road, but as for now, it's there.

This is the penultimate expansion of Bungie's entire 10-year story for Destiny. Here's hoping they can course correct into Final Shape, because a misfire of this scale this close to the finish line is absurdly dangerous and not a good sign.

This is the end of the Destiny marathon of reviews and it a disappointment!! Boring at times, characters that were wasted, a story that was an interesting idea but was underwhelming. Sadly the first Destiny 2 expansion after Bungie was acquired by Sony and I’m so sorry Sony, that was not it. I give it a disappointing score of 6 out of 10!

Do you think the plot of the add-on is a witness? no. an advertising lie. The witness is the first cutscene and the last. all you do in a campaign is fly somewhere to protect something. what is it? why? because Osiris said so. well, the season is another of the same type of activity as in other seasons, nothing new.

The game is at least consistent with Destiny 2 since Forsaken but my issue here is the story. It was made out to be a big climactic start to The Final Shape but it fell flat. It made characters that made me feel like filler characters and it left more questions than answers. The new destination is very nice and the environment is still something that I feel the developers excel at. Many good changes in the system and game organizzation but at the same time at the cost of our power and fantasy (for example: we have Loadouts now but since many Mods have been removed, we have no Builds to play with). Enemies made much stronger that needed and we weakened for apparently no reason...?

Right now I suggest everyone to wait a Season or two before dive in into Lightfall and give Bungie time to understand the mistakes they made and fix things up.

Destiny 2: Lightfall hits a lot of great notes. The new subclass, Strand, is very cool to use and gives you a lot of new movement options. Neomuna is a true sight to behold and invites players to explore. The most important part of the expansion however is the campaign and even though it has a lot of amazing and cool moments, the story falls short. Lightfall offers up more questions while we should have been getting some answers.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is disjointed in story, but pulls through with its gameplay. Something has to give with the former, as the story needs to be memorable and engaging, and this expansion simply didn’t get there in either category.
