Really poor writing. Abysmal new characters and a real slog of a campaign. Great new environment and the quality of life changes make the game easier to organise and enjoy.

The good: Strand is stupid fun when you're allowed to let loose. Once again, the art and sound teams steal the show. Neomuna is a lot smaller than expected, but manages to stay interesting and fun to explore. Bungie nails the vibe of an 80s action movie (training montage included.) Calus and The Witness have good interactions and play off each other fairly well.

The bad: The main campaign is a mess on nearly every level. There is a significant tonal dissonance between the apocalyptic severity of what's supposed to be going on and how characters such as Nimbus actually react.
The Veil is never explained, turning this into a chase the maguffin story. The comparison to Infinity War has been made, I believe by Bungie themselves, but with Infinity War, you *know* the stakes. Lose the stones, half of all life gets dusted. Here, the Witness gets the Veil and...something really bad will happen. This is made worse by the fact that the other people in the story, such as Nimbus and Osiris, know what the Veil is.
What there is of the story is focused on getting Strand under control to the point that it actively harms the rest of the story. I maybe could have tolerated a seasonal story focused on getting Strand, but this is an annual DLC. Not just the annual DLC, this is the *2nd to last* annual DLC for this entire saga. A not insignificant portion of the time spent focusing on Strand could have been used to fix the other issues going on in the story.
When you do get Strand as an actual subclass, it's main selling point, the grapple hook, has it's cooldown nerfed significantly. Hesitant to include this as a criticism because it could be fixed down the road, but as for now, it's there.

This is the penultimate expansion of Bungie's entire 10-year story for Destiny. Here's hoping they can course correct into Final Shape, because a misfire of this scale this close to the finish line is absurdly dangerous and not a good sign.

the most miserable addition made by crooked hands.
well, the final battle is made exclusively for the group. As the logic of the battle is to kick you out, and if you are not in the group you start over without checkpoints in the battle with several phases. all you do this battle is run away so as not to fall. Developers don't care about the solo campaign.

Do you think the plot of the add-on is a witness? no. an advertising lie. The witness is the first cutscene and the last. all you do in a campaign is fly somewhere to protect something. what is it? why? because Osiris said so. well, the season is another of the same type of activity as in other seasons, nothing new.

This is the end of the Destiny marathon of reviews and it a disappointment!! Boring at times, characters that were wasted, a story that was an interesting idea but was underwhelming. Sadly the first Destiny 2 expansion after Bungie was acquired by Sony and I’m so sorry Sony, that was not it. I give it a disappointing score of 6 out of 10!

Destiny 2: Lightfall hits a lot of great notes. The new subclass, Strand, is very cool to use and gives you a lot of new movement options. Neomuna is a true sight to behold and invites players to explore. The most important part of the expansion however is the campaign and even though it has a lot of amazing and cool moments, the story falls short. Lightfall offers up more questions while we should have been getting some answers.

The gap between what Lightfall promised to deliver, and what it has actually provided, is unacceptably wide. There’s plenty to do, but you’ve done most of it before. [Issue#26, p.78]

Destiny 2: Lightfall is disjointed in story, but pulls through with its gameplay. Something has to give with the former, as the story needs to be memorable and engaging, and this expansion simply didn’t get there in either category.
