    This is the end of the Destiny marathon of reviews and it a disappointment!! Boring at times, characters that were wasted, a story that was an interesting idea but was underwhelming. Sadly the first Destiny 2 expansion after Bungie was acquired by Sony and I’m so sorry Sony, that was not it. I give it a disappointing score of 6 out of 10!

    The game is at least consistent with Destiny 2 since Forsaken but my issue here is the story. It was made out to be a big climactic start to The Final Shape but it fell flat. It made characters that made me feel like filler characters and it left more questions than answers. The new destination is very nice and the environment is still something that I feel the developers excel at.     It will be my last Destiny purchase. They can’t create content because other portions of the game would fall behind. If they don’t want to reinvest into the core of the game I don’t want to invest in them anymore.

    Worst expansion for destiny 2, what the hell are bungie doing? The story is so boring, and the missions so lame. Who ever wrote this story deserves to get fired. Nothing makes sense

    this was the most expensive DLC ever, and with that they cannot seem to distribute software without delays or breaking things, and gameplay is seriously bugged overall the game is broken. then the weak story, and the new location is stupid, its just not fun nor worth the $

    Worst FPS campaign ever... like alarmingly bad. If you already just play Destiny for the gameplay it improves a few, and regresses one, of its core gameplay mechanics.

    the most miserable addition made by crooked hands.
    well, the final battle is made exclusively for the group. As the logic of the battle is to kick you out, and if you are not in the group you start over without checkpoints in the battle with several phases. all you do this battle is run away so as not to fall. Developers don't care about the solo campaign.

    It feels like bungie's main focus now is just to extend players' time in the game without respecting it and considering the experience. The difficulty-scaling is so messy across the game, imagine patrol ads being harder to kill than the contest raid enemies...     I have never played this game as I am on PlayStation but from talking with people on XBOX who have played this game and watched some gameplay

    Look, the grind has been cranked up to 10 this season.

    Game made harder to appease the 1% with no consideration for the majority. When looked at objectively, another expansion when all you're really paying for is a story that's a few hours long. Once that's done, you're back to the same old stuff you've been doing since Destiny 1. Imagine playing another $100/£70 for a 6 hour story.    Look, the grind has been cranked up to 10 this season.

    When looked at objectively, another expansion when all you're really paying for is a story that's a few hours long. Once that's done, you're back to the same old stuff you've been doing since Destiny 1. Imagine playing another $100/£70 for a 6 hour story.

    The community is the only thing holding it together, which is strong but getting frustrated. But that is specifically what is being exploited by Bungie here, knowing players won't leave and continually accepting a lack of anything truly new within the core gameplay loop.

    When compared to other full games at a similar price, the quantity and to some extent quality, its not comparable for what is supposed to be AAA.

    Finally, and not for the first time, the marketing and PR beforehand simply did not live up to expectation. I'm not alone with this opinion.

    This isn't just disappointment on my part, and a random rant, after over 4000 hours in last 10 seasons, I've chosen to step away because of the above but feel (despite it probably being quietly spoken into the extremely loud echo chamber) there might be a way forward to bring me and dozens of other hard core fans back.

    But I don't hold my breath and the longer I'm away, the less likely that'll happen...    … Expand

    Been a long time Destiny fan but there are some major issues with this latest expansion. Starting off with the good…strand sub class is fun/powerful and the new exotics are fun to use. Mod Builder is also an improvement. Now the list of negative things outweighs the positive by a lot unfortunately. Poor story, poor level design, numerous inexcusable bugs (frame rate insta death bugs,Been a long time Destiny fan but there are some major issues with this latest expansion. Now the list of negative things outweighs the positive by a lot unfortunately. Poor story, poor level design, numerous inexcusable bugs (frame rate insta death bugs, disconnects, etc), poor game design, and increased “difficulty” which just translates to most activities have enemies that are 30-40 levels above you and feel like bullet sponges and you do way less damage. Nightfalls are awful now. Lost sectors are awful now. The game across most activities is less fun and enjoyable than pre-lightfall. The level and number of bad development decisions is remarkable. Sadly, it would be impossible to recommend this game to anyone. Even as a long time Destiny fan.… Expand

Now I have to grind 300 more light to play stuff I already have?. Feels like an arbitrary waste of time. Light level is the problem and holding this game back.     the was great for about 10 minutes but then it happened. about every half an hour you will receive adverts in game that almost take up the entire screen trying to sell micro transactions and to remove it you have to click on it which redirects you to the internet browser and then close the browser to resume playing the game. absolute joke

    Really disappointed with this release. Feels lackluster and empty. They phoned this one in. Wish I could get my money back. Wait until a massive sale price would be my advice.

    Honestly the devs dont care about this game, they will charge you $100 for 2.50 worth of content. They cannot write a story to save their lives.i have never felt so disrespected as a gamer in my life, this dlc is an insult to everyone that payed for it

Exploiting your consumer and community is not the philosophy you want to have as a game developing studio. Lightfall has been a clear example of the practise of ripping off its consumers, 100$ of a campaign that is a glorified strand tutorial and 2 dungeons and raid which is awaited.Sadly Bungie is one of the worst developers out there as far as its business practise is concerned.     This game lives up to the hype. The world concept and art are some of the best I've seen in a decade, and the performance optimization is nothing short of miraculous for a startup company founded to make this game. The gameplay is also a well rounded FPS action game that is reliably fun.

    I don’t understand all this review bombing. Maybe the campaign was not the best in terms of story, but the overall gameplay was absolutely fun; the missions were extremely good, the new strand power is extremely fun to play, weapons and changes to the artifact and armor mods made the game way better.     Just awful. FOMO mess that has killed my love for the franchise. Tired of not knowing what's happening because I don't play the seasonal content. And once you miss that seasonal content, there is no going back and replaying it, it's removed from the game and replaced. The worst part is we all have to pay money for that content only for it to be taken away. Really tired of this with BungieJust awful. FOMO mess that has killed my love for the franchise.     I'll admit, I'm writing this because I've seen so much negativity about Lightfall and I just don't get it. This has been a fantastic expansion and I can't wait for what's coming up from Destiny! I loved Witch Queen too, but I have to say that when it ended I felt like we were kind of just waiting for another year until the Black Fleet showed up. In contrast, I really don't know what toI'll admit, I'm writing this because I've seen so much negativity about Lightfall and I just don't get it. This has been a fantastic expansion and I can't wait for what's coming up from Destiny! I loved Witch Queen too, but I have to say that when it ended I felt like we were kind of just waiting for another year until the Black Fleet showed up. In contrast, I really don't know what to expect after Lightfall and I'm very excited by that.

    The story was not what I expected, and Bungie took some bold moves in the end. There are some weak points to the narrative, with the intro to the Cloudstriders feeling somewhat rushed, and lots of questions left unanswered. But personally I wasn't expecting to understand everything with this expansion; it seemed clear that we were going to be fighting was a war, and a war is what we get. The new campaign was a tough play through on Legendary, and there's a great final fight (even though I can now find or think of strats to melt the boss way more easily).

    The narrative really puts our Guardian in the context of a single soldier in the middle of an impossible battle, with a race against the clock to figure out how to stop Calus from getting what the Witness needs to destroy the traveler. It's also a bit of an homage to 80s movies, more than just with the aesthetics, which I think they pulled off well. Strand is a part of this, and I think they narratively and mechanically incorporated it into the game in an overall better way than with Stasis. Speaking of Strand, it's been a blast to play with and feels strong with the right combo of fragments now available (I love my hordes of Threadlings!). Not sure yet about the revamped mod system, but I like the change to artifact mods and the removal of elemental affinity for armor. The loadout system also seems to be solid overall, and gives you almost instant swapping of builds. The new gear has been really fun too, with post campaign quests adding more and more to the story while we get our new shiny exotics.

    In short, take the negative reviews with a big grain of salt. There's a lot to love in Lightfall.    … Expand

There is a convenient option to bypass the unplayable campaign for $20 per character. These two factor are leading players to believe Lightfall is blatant consumer fraud. My guess the glitches and bgs are targeted towards players that are known bigDestiny 2: Lightfall is a unplayable for a lot of people.     Overall, terrible, boring, disjointed and vague story that would rather tell you, in boring exposition dumps, whats happening than SHOW you. I wouldn't recommend this if it was free, Destiny 1 has better story expansions.

    Destiny 2: Lightfall hits a lot of great notes. The new subclass, Strand, is very cool to use and gives you a lot of new movement options. Neomuna is a true sight to behold and invites players to explore. The most important part of the expansion however is the campaign and even though it has a lot of amazing and cool moments, the story falls short. Lightfall offers up more questions while we should have been getting some answers.

    The gap between what Lightfall promised to deliver, and what it has actually provided, is unacceptably wide. There’s plenty to do, but you’ve done most of it before. [Issue#26, p.78]

    Destiny 2: Lightfall is disjointed in story, but pulls through with its gameplay. Something has to give with the former, as the story needs to be memorable and engaging, and this expansion simply didn’t get there in either category.
