Some nice vistas here and there, everything else in the game is mediocre or worse:

Typical generic first person shooter gameplay, abysmal compared to the gunfights in, say, Bioshock, Titanfall 2 or Doom (2016). Non existent exploration. You will be retreading the same four small maps - they are even tiny, considering how many hours you spend in them - over and over again. And, no,

Non existent exploration. You will be retreading the same four small maps - they are even tiny, considering how many hours you spend in them - over and over again. And, no, there is practically zero difference between the layouts of a specific map during different times of the day.

Characters completely lacks depths and personality. Juliana, in particular, seems to be be thrown in from the typical docusoap opera. She's obnoxious beyond words. The main protagonist you're playing seems to be likable, until you reach the end when it turns out he's just as shallow as the others. In fact, you almost feel apathetic after finishing the game in how bereft it is from any kind of emotion.

The general gameplay, outside of the shootouts, mostly consist of fetch quests similar to the ones found in recent Ubisoft titles.

It's a shame to see so many gaming journalists becoming pawns who will never be taken seriously again by gamers.

This game could 100% run on a PS4. There is no reason it needs to be only PS5. The loading times are still slow, and the graphics are fine. But, the style of the this game is great. I love the 60’s aesthetic in this game, but I wished it did anything to show that this was in the 60’s other than visuals. Gameplay

If you’ve played an Arkane game, you’ve played part of this game. Dishonored with guns. Prey on Earth. Most of the powers are the exact. It kind of feels cheap at this point. Arkane needs to change up their style a bit. Oh wait they did for this game, by making it more linear. Less choices in how to deal with targets, explore the world, and get to the end. But don’t get me wrong, it’s still fun. This might be one of the most fun FPS I’ve played. It’s so fast and reactive you can’t help but smile when playing. There are plenty of ways to kill people, grenades, guns, kicks, but none of them feel innovative like Arkane’s other games. But overall, it’s good.

    Multiplayer

    It doesn’t work.

    Conclusion

It’s pretty good for a short game. It only took me around 9 hours to beat the game, but there’s plenty of stuff to collect. If you really like Arkane, you should get this. If you don’t, wait for a sale. It’s not a must-play at the moment. It’s good, not great. 7/10

Really enjoyed the game. Loved the maps and was obsessed with finding every little secret the game had to offer. Interesting story with good characters and a very solid gameplay. Only big negative I have to say that the AI can be really stupid sometimes.

Bought the game on impulse and was pleasantly surprised. Mechanics felt fluid, really fun concept and great story. Only thing is certain slabs felt pretty game-breaking (Looking at you shift slab) and pretty much let you breeze through the game once you have it.

Played around 5-6 hours, killed few Visionaries, and I can tell: It's the worst Arkane game up to date.
After great Prey (2017) and awesome Dishonored dilogy Deathloop feels repetative, irritating due to loop concept, annoying due to using same locations every time and boring due to broken shooting mechanic. I don't know what they did to shooting but it feels worse than in Dishonored 2.

I don't know what they did to shooting but it feels worse than in Dishonored 2. Aggressive play style is not acceptable: It's not fun at all, especially when your weapon jams and you're surrounded. The cost of mistake is high: you can die 2 times and next you'll get - a reset of your loot and progress. It irritates the most, as well as due to the plot-driven loot reset. The design and music are great, the story idea too, but...
You'll get fast annoyed on third loop reset by same game locations. There is no story progress feeling: like a hamster, you run around and around in same parts of island, gathering loot and chasing targets like a dog.

But the most narrow fov I have ever seen
No option to turn off motion blur? (Unacceptable)
Weirdest aim response curve one has ever come up with
And the super weird moving whenever you do any type of movement: climbing, crouching, sprinting..

Everything is so unnatural. In fact, it's that bad that I can't really play the game for more than half an hour without getting motion sick. After days of playing, I slightly adapted. But the controls still feel like sh*t. This is absolutely not acceptable. How did reviewers give this game anything above a 8? It could be as fun as possible but these controls ruin everything.

After you've gone through the first minutes and accepted the controls are terrible, you encounter something that's EVEN WORSE: The AI.

I don't get how you could make the AI that stupid, unaware and predictable. You can walk straight past the AI, they won't notice you. Shoot people, they won't notice you. Shoot explosives into the ground next to them, they won't notice. It's that bad. Yet the AI is like everything the game has to offer? It's like start cycle, go there, slaughter AI, do X, go there, slaughter AI, do X, and so on, ..., repeat cycle, and slaughter them again. Yet killing them is the most boring, unrewarding and most unengaging gameplay you could ever imagine. The AI is so bad, you can just run through every area and just kill them as if it's cod, without any consequences. And that's not even bad, that's the only thing that's actually fun doing in the game.

Now to the good things, respect where it's due you know:

The characters and voice acting are amazing! They're absolutely spot on and the only thing that make this game enjoyable. Also the games design & music is actually amazing, even though the 3D audio and Graphics are very lackluster. Also gotta give credit to making use of the Dualsense. It's far from being as great as in Astros playroom or returnal, but at least makes the game a little bit more enjoyable.

But as these are the only good things I suggest you watch a playthrough from your favorite YouTuber or streamer. You'll only miss out on the Dualsense but that's absolutely not worth spending money on. Get any other game instead.

Deathloop has a unique premise supported by solid gunplay and an intriguing world. It also has too many problems to make it an easy recommendation.

I had fun exploring Blackreef with Colt. It's that kind of retro-future vibe that Arkane is known for and I dig it. It's like wading through A Clockwork Orange, but with annoying Borderlands characters rattling off one liners every so often.

I had fun exploring Blackreef with Colt. It's that kind of retro-future vibe that Arkane is known for and I dig it. It's like wading through A Clockwork Orange, but with annoying Borderlands characters rattling off one liners every so often. Deathloop really wants you to think that it's funny and clever, but about half of the writing was just painful to listen to. I chuckled a few times at lines like 'f*** your fried eggs' but hearing it every time I looped through another day it started to lose it's potency.

Repetition is the core conceit of Deathloop and, for the most part, it's pretty neat. Every day is the same and everyone within goes through the same motions each time unaware that it's happening... with the exception of Colt and Julianna. These two remember things day to day and it's gratifying to use Colt's stored knowledge of enemy behaviors against them. Julianna wants to maintain the loop for...reasons while Colt sees it as a prison that he wants to break out of.

I enjoyed the premise behind these characters' motivation, but the execution was off. Julianna will invade your world [which can be another player if you're not in offline mode: hard pass] and try to prevent you from killing the 'visionaries' whose death will break the loop. I hated this. I can't tell you how many times I was 30 to 45 minutes into a loop and she would show up with a randomly selected loadout of buff powers only to alert every enemy of my presence. This feels like a cheap, unearned penalty and works counter to one of the game's main strengths; the feeling that you are mastering your surroundings by memorizing patrol patterns, enemy placements, optimal routes, etc. I would have much preferred Julianna's presence to be a bit more scripted since I found it almost exclusively frustrating to restart a loop because she ruined a segment of it. The saving grace of these encounters is that she provides valuable resources and upgrades when defeated.

Decking Colt out with these upgrades was really fun. finding that perfect combination of character and weapon perks while committing valuable 'Residuum' [Deathloop's version of XP] to the preservation and destruction of certain upgrades was compelling. Using Colt's powers [called Slabs] in tandem with the weighty gunplay was great and made even better by all the nasty ways that he can dispatch enemies. The machete is such a great weapon.

It was, however, annoying to deal with some of Deathloop's technical issues that would get in the way of my progression and fun. There is a serious 'pause' bug that soft locks the game in the pause screen and makes you lose your progress for that time period of the day [Deathloop's days are divided into morning, noon, afternoon, and evening] since you are forced to restart the game. This happened to me 4 times in my playthrough. I also ran into a bug that would prevent me from upgrading my gear at the end of a loop which, again, required me to restart the game. This combined with some buggy implementation of powers, framerate drops [for the most part the game maintains close to 60 fps on ps5], abhorrent UI, and repetitious/bad dialog really hold Deathloop back from being an easy recommend.

By the end of Deathloop, I was satisfied. Slowly manipulating the world and the characters within to eventually create that perfect day of breaking the loop was so cool. It's just too bad that once the credits roll, the mystery of the loop remains and you're back to square one....would have been cool to get some answers there, but oh well it's more about the 20 hour journey than the destination as they say. Grab Deathloop when it's on sale if you're a fan of Prey, Dishonored, Bioshock, and Rogue-likes.

The ending is too short and clearly disappointing. Graphics, animations are still ps4 quality. AI is poor. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is truly overhyped. It’s a not a 10/10 game nor worth $60 to say the least. It has the perfect game pass, Playststion plus quality. It’s a great game with a lot of good features such as :
voice acting is great The dialogue is funny and humorous The maps/areas are creatively made And the bosses have good dialogue. However the game lacks so many things to make a 10/10 game:
The background story of the bosses isn’t explained well nor it’s interesting The boss fights are the same as any NPC fight The AI is pretty bad The hints, clues, and leads are misleading and don’t occur enough nor explain what needs to be done in which order
The game can’t get pretty boring really fast. I get that it’s a loop and each day consists of finding clues, but it sometimes can get very very boring. The endings are so anticlimactic it’s sad. 7/10 at best

There is no other way to play as the gunplay is so clunky and awful and your character is made out of glass and will die so quickly.

The mission/lead setup seems novel at first but you quickly realise everyone plays exactly the same and it all takes place on 4 areas which are about the size of an average 6v6 cod map which obviously gets tedious very quickly especially as you keep having to go in and out of areas and advancing time and figuring stuff out yourself and repeating over and over and over again. It’s so unrewarding and doesn’t match the grossly outdated gameplay. The story seems decent but it’s a chore to follow with all the hoops you have to jump through just to play the game. This game feels like a £20 indie rather than a full priced headliner. Worth that price if you are willing to do almost all immersive legwork yourself and don’t mind an extremely slow paced repetitive grind. Otherwise avoid.

They give it a bad review. Honestly, you're complaining because a game isn't easy, which is lame. The game is a challenge, it isn't supposed to be a straight up simple shooter. Also, another complaint is the levels, that there are only four or that they are too small. These people clearly haven't played the game passed the early stages. Each level at each time period is different, with whole new level stages and different enemy layout, so no not just 4 levels there are 16 technically. Also, once you actually play the game a bit, especially play it online, you understand the level design better, the design is kind of brilliant because it is designed to work as a single player and multiplayer map. Playing online you get to see how thought the levels are small, they have an almost open world aspect to them as you can leap through the map and climb almost everything, finding caverns and extra rooms depending on which time it is. To those dissing the graphics, I don't know maybe you have a bad TV, I thought the graphics, along with level design and character design were awesome and unlike anything I've seen before in a game. The gunplay does take a little while to get used to. It isn't like a typical FPS because this game isn't really a typical FPS, the use of powers which you progressively get make the pacing of the gunplay much more clear, I thought it felt awkward for the first couple of hours I played the game too, then it kind of clicked and I saw how it worked. Anyway, the hate is totally unwarranted and comes from people not understanding what they are getting into (even though the first two hours+ of the game explains it all to you). A lot of people complain about things that are just part of how the game is supposed to be. If you don't like it, fair enough, but to suggest this is a bad game is ridiculous. Also, clearly there is a campaign against the game, this has biased and distorted the reviews. A lot of people likely went in with all the noise from the campaign and had it bias their perspectives too. It is too bad because we cannot actually get a genuine review of what players actually think of the game because there are so many zeros and low scores that are by people who haven't played it or who went in with no intention of liking it, not fair reviews of the game. The bad reviews, and mediocre reviews are full of clear misunderstandings of the game mechanics and design right off the bat that people who actually have played through the game more than just a little bit, have done the whole online bit, and really dug into the game know right away these reviews are from biased brains who haven't given it a fair chance at all. Is it a fun game? Yes. Is it innovative? Kind of. Did you enjoy the multiplayer? Hell no. I would still consider this to be a good game, but I feel like this game has potentials that the developers were just too reluctant to work on.

The story: While it is unique at a first glance, it feels very stale and bland after half an hour. Like it has been done before. What doesn't exactly add to the lack of fun, is the extremely boring level design. I know, it's not supposed to be a living, breathing city but the levels feel so lifeless. Like you're running through a tutorial level all the time. I don't like it, but I see the potential behind it.

I was intrigued by the game's concept and art style, and enjoyed Arkane's previous games. So when the glowing reviews came in for Deathloop, I rushed in and bought it at full price.

Regret doing that now. It's just such an average game. Have played it for about six hours, and don't have the will to carry on. There's nothing new or exciting here at all. It just feels like a poor rehash

It just feels like a poor rehash of Dishonored. The AI and stealth mechanics are poor. And once you get inevitably spotted by an enemy, the combat is very basic and unsatisfying. You can just blast everyone with the shotgun.

The graphics are also quite dull, and there seem to be performance issues like freezing.

If you're still thinking about buying this game, I would wait for a deep sale.

This is a pretty good demonstration of what a new console and an experienced dev studio can do. However, in my opinion, the idea with a time loop makes the game a little monotonous and boring, you hardly want to play it twice.

I did have a few bugs, I have to say, this game feels unpolished. There were multiple graphical glitches, and I even had one crash, which was frustrating. I definitely don't agree with this being a 10/10 game. My honest opinion is 7/10, but I'm giving it an 8 because I think it's worth playing and I feel like review-bombers have done quite a bit to bias the true user score.

The gameplay mechanics are great, I like this new take on gaming which encourages thinking in combination with desstruction, but I suspect that the gameplay might become repetitive, we'll see.

Great game. It's tight and well designed and doesn't overstay its welcome or overdo it's premise. The game gives you space to explore and discover how to break the loop without getting stuck or lost. Overall it bends a ways away from standard gameplay but not so far that a casual gamer will get bored before they've figured out how to play it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (7/10) I'd like to clarify that I went into this with a year's worth of excitement and anticipation for the game. I got it on release day and it took me until today to beat it. Not because it's long, but because I got bored and annoyed with it. The opening hours are boring, the closing hours are climactic, but not great, and the ending I got was dreadful. It's a real shame the game is so monotonous because it really looks great, and I love the concepts with regards to gunplay and the like, but I found there weren't enough good guns in the game that you could use anywhere, so I tended to just use melee. I'd recommend it when it gets cheap. £60 is an incredibly high price for what you get in my opinion. That said, I can't wait for any DLC or future games from arkane. Expand

It has potential with some unique qualities but fails to deliver in some core areas. Especially with the foundation of its PvP aspect which has a MASSIVE sustainability problem for longterm (explained further below).

AI is weak--they don't react to sound very well (shoot a gun multiple times on a rooftop and them still seem lost) and their vision is way too narrow. Fairly dated stealth mechanics to be honest. They also don't engage in firefights well and are predictable--easy to get them into chokepoints and they just lack awareness. They do not flank and are linear in design (no special classes outside of "long, mid, short, and melee range"). They will improve in weapons over time of your progression but it doesn't actually do that much in increased DPS and does not impact the game much either. I believe AI is weak to compensate for player invasions which creates an extremely poor balance between the two. If you don't get invaded by a player (which can be quite often especially since player count is not very high), then you have only the AI to face. Quite simply, a reliance on PvP for a challenge. AI needed a Heavy class (immune to headshots) and a Nullifier class (immune to Slab attacks and abilites) along with maybe a combo of the two. Just needed more overall. Balancing between players can come elsewhere. Controls on PS5 need improvement especially with weapon handling. Sensitivity and acceleration are just off feeling and this is the first game I resorted to snap auto aim which I LOATHE due to it being a cheat. But I just couldn't get a comfortable feel for the handling without it and was hurting the experience. And I'm someone who plays a lot of PvP shooters and though I prefer fairly specific control settings, I also adapt well. UI could be improved (especially with maps and the layout of objective menu). 3D audio is not the best. Will have multiple times where an item may sound above you but can be right at your feet.

Mulitplayer is horribly unbalanced and VERY laggy due to Peer-to-Peer connection. It's fun when it works but also quite frustrating and I expect PvP to be hard to matchmake in the coming weeks due to lack of players.. The overall game is short, about 20 to 30 hours to fully complete. When you finish the game with Colt, there's no real endgame progression (minus completing side stuff or other endings) to push for PvP. Not even a matchmaking for him to directly play against Juli players on random maps (desperately needed). This in essence kills the 1 side for creating the PvP. Thus Juliannes could be stuck in matchmaking for quite some time if not enough new players jumping in--some hardcore people may repeatedly jump in as Colt but nowhere near enough. There needed to be incentives for players to remain in Online Mode beyond the main story. There also needed to be improved "skill/progression based" MM due to how lopsided games can get. My Colt is endgame (was about 10 hours into playing sadly) and just demolishes both AI and Julianne invaders alike (assuming they actually match make into my game...). I actually don't even stealth anymore it's so one sided. Invasions is a core concept for this game with a poor foundation to operate on. It can be exhilarating when it works and both sides are more of equal progression. But that's fairly rare in my experience.

Overall, some people may enjoy the game as it tailors to a much more casual player base but this does not deserve a Game of the Year level of ratings. Not even close.. Returnal is a better game in a similar genre though much more difficult and not for the feint of heart lol. But it's better put together. I do hope Arkane proceeds with a DLC or sequel as I do see solid potential for a unique design. They just need to improve upon many core aspects.

To break the loop, you must eliminate 8 visionaries in the same day but the antagonist, Julianna Blake, who also retains their memory between loops stands in your way. Each day is divided into 4 time periods and you can visit 1 of 4 distinct areas. As targets only appear in a specific area and time, your job is to investigate to find info and a way to eliminate all targets in a single loop. The game has a rarely seen and striking art style, 1960’s retro-futuristic. If get looped then you will lose all your gear and start back at the planning screen similar to a rogue-like. But unlike this sub-genre, you can find a way to save your gear between loops.

Story wise the game shows its hands very earlier on, explaining the loop. Instead, players must find answers behind Colt’s history and their relationship to Julianna. However, there are still major story gaps once the game concludes. The voice acting of Colt/Julianna is top notch and there is great chemistry/banter when she calls you on the radio, however she does not appear in many scenes after the prologue. Visionaries all have a distinct style and enough reason is given as to why they are deemed ‘bad’ to justify their elimination but the game doesn’t dive deeper in to their background and they have little interaction with Colt.

The game’s USP is the loop mechanic where players can view information or take action to influence events in different time periods or loops. E.g., Preventing a fire that would normally burn down a building to retrieve a key code to get closer to a target. Finding these codes are a big part of the game and they are different for every player (so no cheating) but they are the same across each of your loops. However, I found the game tends to hand hold you too much across each of the leads and even explains how to eliminate all targets once you have completed all the main leads, thereby reducing the detective work/mystery for the player.

You can die twice per time period, with the third resetting the loop. In addition, you can choose 2 out of 5 powers to equip such as Shift a short-range teleportation (Blink from Dishonored) but this feels like a necessity thereby reducing loadout variety. The arsenal is quite small with 8 normal guns and 4 unique legendary ones. The former can come in 3 rarities with the highest, purple/exemplar, having a (mostly) random perk. You can equip up to 4 character trinkets and 3 weapon trinkets per gun that gives buffs. You will learn the infusion ability early on and can find residuum around levels to save gear between loops.

A major critic is poor AI of the NPC enemies in game who have awful stealth detection and you can easily funnel them down a corridor if you go loud. As you defeat visionaries, the loop stress increases which means enemies have better loot and are supposedly tougher. But I did not find this to be the case, no new tactics and headshots are still effective. If there are targets still in the map, then Julianna can invade your game (NPC controlled). She poses more of a challenge depending on her power combo, and she locks your escape tunnels so you need to hack an antenna first (always in the same place) before leaving the level.

You can play as Julianna and invade other player’s games in a different mode. It has its own ranking up system that unlocks her gear and outfits for both characters, but it is randomised. As Julianna, you are at a disadvantage as Colt has three lives so I found stealth as the best option. It can be very exhilarating hunting down your target in a game of cat and mouse when it works. I have been disconnected a few times due to lag and the match had ended automatically once I loaded in. For Colt, invasion only begins at the start so you can rush Julianna’s spawn point to defeat her quickly. You can turn player invasion on/off as Colt.

Overall, I found the story and premise to be quite interesting and the gameplay was solid for the most part. It did not meet my expectations due to the ambiguous marketing (I expected Dishonored meets the Hitman series) since only 2 targets can be manipulated and there is only 1 set way to be able to break the loop. The four maps do change over time but they felt like the same and became fairly repetitive quite quickly. Deathloop also lacks end game content as there is nothing new to do, with your map knowledge jumping into Julianna’s mode is the best option. Within a week, I broke the loop many times and did some invasions, but I became fairly bored. Deathloop takes ideas from Arkane’s previous games but it is not an extension of them, instead it is an entirely new experience and stands on its own merits.

I cannot recommend purchasing Deathloop at full price on launch but I would suggest waiting for a sale and to watch gameplay videos. I give Deathloop a score of 8 out of 10.

First of all the game feels original to me. People here keep talking about Dishonoured, but I never played that game so I had nothing to compare it to. Some have even brought up Hitman as a possible source of inspiration for the game, but I don't really see the similarities. I have been a Hitman fan for years and I just don't see it. Deathloop seems a lot more interested in telling a story, something Hitman gave up on a long time ago. Gameplay is also drastically different here.

Something else I liked about Deathloop is its aesthetics. The world is simply gorgeous. It reminded me of this game I played ages ago called XIII which had this comic book look and style to it. I played the game in Performance mode, which was great. The ray tracing option is fantastic as well, but framerate drops to 30 which bothered me since I quickly got used to 60 fps in Performance mode.

The story is great, the side missions are unique and original (though their rewards don't match the effort you put in to get through them), and the gunplay is just phenomenal. The DualSense really made the experience special for me, and my only complain is that I wish they had put together a larger arsenal. Come on, the over-the-top gameplay and gun battles is screaming for crazier options (i.e. flamethrower, meat grinder, bazooka, etc.).

I'm now trying my hand at the multiplayer and I really hope people will get into it because I'm having a blast. Playing Julianna and stalking Colt is really a lot of fun.

I will end by sharing my biggest complain with the game (and the reason I can't give it a 10) which is the fact that the game often crashes on me, to the point where it can get very annoying. This new trend that has games being released half broken is starting to bother me and I would have given Deathloop a 5 if I hadn't had as much fun as I did.

Again. A great game. In my opinion, a must-buy for PS5 players.

The biggest strength of this game is absolutely the setting, characters, and general setup the game offers you. This being the Death-Loop mechanic. It creates a sense of mystery and probably is the first game in a while that made me feel like a detective, piecing together an elaborate puzzle/narrative.
I also really love the retro-70s environment. It's all quite unique, and admittedly simple, which just strangely works. Colt and Juliana are great characters that stand out due to the fantastic voice acting and strong character writing. I would argue that deathloop is more of a greatest hits collection as Arkane sticks to their design philosophies as they are now at the end of an era as the studio gears up to create games under Microsoft.

right, so the bad! Deathloop's AI is very very very dumb. Arkane games have always had rather **** Ai (except for Prey - AI is good in that game) They seem to always struggle with a good balance here. I think people forget that Dishonored's AI ain't that bright either but because of the stealth mechanics and bad gun gameplay, it's more of a challenge. It does seem like the engine (the void engine) isn't very good for engineering Ai or something? I think the studio gets caught up in Ideas and Fun and always seems to forget the importance of the challenge. The game can be challenging, but like dishonored you mainly just getting swamped by enemies finding your location and their input damage being rather high. If anything, they really need to figure out how to balance this next time. I would have also maybe liked more enemy variants too. Having dogs/animals maybe? Or even high-tech drunk robot enemies that require more skill? Juliana can be a good challenge but the game REALLY needed more. I also wish maybe the game had a more satisfying - or surreal ending. I quite like how it is rather open-ended/depending on the ending you get, but I think it would have been nice having it be more open-ended or more conclusive and strange.

I understand if this isn't your thing. But I don't think it deserves the review bombing that it's currently receiving.I do think it's worth your time. I do think it's very good and I do think it's incredibly flawed. I still think it's worth purchasing (only on PS5 because the PC version has performance issues) I would actually rate this more of an 8/10 but the review bombing seems incredibly harsh imo.

Meh. It wasn't awful, but it does feel very outdated, and I didn't really care about any of the characters. This is another one of those games where I'm left wondering if the critics played the same thing I did.

Not engaging and found myself having to force myself to play. Game is a shadow compared to bioshock and is essentially dishonored in clothing with a gimmick.

-Multiplayer is a good addition to the game and matches well with the theme.

    The bad:

    -outdated visuals;

-story lacks excitement, it never really grows on you throughout the playthrough.

-On top of being a time-loop game that assumes you're going to repeat things a lot, there are also missions that require you to do repetitive actions that get boring more than often.

-Occasional bugs that simply crash the game after you pause to check on your mission details are annoying especially after 40 minutes plus missions.

-Lackluster soundtrack, with only two or three music that repeats itself all the time (I guess that's also part of the looping thing?).

Arkane did it again... It’s a shame their games don’t sell better because no one does anything like they do with the level of mastery that they do it with. Fun, engaging, creative, and different.

The people review bombing are salty idiots mad over a game they clearly didn't play. Phenomenal game from start to finish, genuinely enjoyed it from start to finish. The trailers honestly made it look a lot less interesting than it ended up being. Lot of replayability and freedom, and the game just looks pretty. Hoping for a sequel.

Detective games have always been a weird fit for video games - the game needs the player to prove that they've solved the mystery without outright giving the mystery away. Then the player is often unable to progress until they solve the current mystery, either leading to some players getting stuck, or the game outright giving away the answer. While there have been some incredible smallDetective games have always been a weird fit for video games - the game needs the player to prove that they've solved the mystery without outright giving the mystery away. Then the player is often unable to progress until they solve the current mystery, either leading to some players getting stuck, or the game outright giving away the answer. While there have been some incredible small games that have overcome this (Return of the Obra Dinn leaps to mind) I had never played a game that gave me the feeling of a detective piecing together a giant web of interconnected secrets and clues... until now.

Deathloop is a giant (and frequently deadly) Rube Goldberg machine that begs you to poke and prod it, just to see what will happen. Levels that at first seem straightforward will begin to unfurl as you break different parts. You gain a strange sense of uneasy familiarity that perfectly reflects the story - eventually allowing you to bend the world itself to your will, watching as people act exactly how you wanted them to. You will chase piles of leads at once, often using the knowledge gained from one to solve the other. Your list of "missions" feels like the pinboard of a conspiracy theorist, and each new clue is one you sought out and earned yourself.

I won't say anything about the story itself, as this game should be experienced with as little spoiled as possible, but its full of fun characters and twists you'll probably figure out beforehand (but feel clever for having done so).

The gameplay starts out serviceable... if a bit dull and repetitive. It holds back many of the tools needed to be perfectly stealthy or incredibly strong, forcing you to seek them out yourself. It feels wonderful when you do reach this point, though the limited number of options you can take at any one time will likely mean you'll end up with a couple of favourites you always end up using for a large chunk of the game. The real strength of this game is how much freedom you have - you really can play this game however you like, though this does mean that no single style of play feels as polished as it could have.

Overall, this is an incredible game that has something for everyone - I highly recommend it.

It’s a solid seven guys, eight at best if you’re really into the style of it but doesn’t really offer anything we haven’t seen before done better (original Dishonoured is a better game than this). If you’re into the whole time loop thing then I’d check out The Forgotten City… it’s much more compelling to play and the writing is leagues ahead of Deathloop.

One of the best games I've ever played. Amazing. level design is one of the smartest iv come across, AI can be questionable at times but what game isn’t these days, that roguelite immersive sim where you need to look for clues instead of being streamlined down a road and looking at icons on a map. It's just fun to play.

No idea why people are whinging about the game. It started very confusingly so I might only assume that a few haven't played further into the game to comprehend and appreciate it. In my opinion it is on par with Dishonoured if not even more enjoyable. Graphics is decent, gameplay is excellent, captivating story. Definitely one of the best games of the year

This is a classic game that really sucks you in. It has a relatively slow (on rails) start, and it takes a while to have access to (and understand) the overall mechanic. This game is a disgrace to what Arkane used to put out. Worse world interactivity than Dark Messiah (a 15yo source engine game released by the same dev), worse AI than that game and Dishonored (and many other, more prolific old PC games), edgy, **** voiceacting, and PC optimisation is a joke.

-No, it's not dishonored Arkane wanted to make a new experience not dishonored 3

-The second complaint I've seen is that the shooting feels "stiff" while I do see where these people are coming from I think that it was a deliberate choice to make it feel "stiff" Arkane didn’t want the game to feel like some same old shooter

-The game looks, plays, and sounds fine it’s not outdated while I will say the quick-swap/d-pad buttons took a little bit to getting used to, but after roughly an hour in it felt great to use. I already talked about how it plays above, but if I hear any more people complaining about the sound design I'm going to scream because the score and sound cues are some of the best I've EVER heard.

-Finally, while bugs are a problem they didn’t really hinder my experience that much maybe 2 or 3 crashes

(I also think this hate stems from the immersive sim community expecting perfection from everything. take cyberpunk for example sure a bad game but it still got WAY too much hate.)

Deathloop offers well-designed stealth levels under the core gameplay of Roguelike. At the same time, the variety of weapons and special powers also support the exciting combat. Julianna's "invasion" adds the uncertainty of the game, but may also spoil the player's experience.

I’m honestly surprised, because I did not expect to have so much fun with Deathloop. It draws some gameplay ideas from Dishonored, but introduces time-related mechanics, offers an intriguing story with interesting characters and has its own unique and coherent style. It’s an original game, full of surprises and addictive, but not necessarily easily digestible for everyone. For me however it’s one of the best titles of 2021. [11/2021, p.22]
