The game is one of the best games I’ve ever played. 17h(main story) of pure fun! Played it on ps5. Game of the year for sure.

It's ripe with story, it's messy, as it should be. You are in a time loop. Information has been spread out for a long time. No body cares because it'll just be same tomorrow. You have to price it together just like colt (your character) Its a fun and engaging. Read everything twice and plan the best way to finally break the loop.

Deathloop, despite its flaws, shows that unique, innovative and quirky big budget gaming experiences are now coming to the new generation of consoles - giving people more reasons to think that now is a good time to upgrade.

Veldig kult spill! Unikt på så mange måter. Gøy nesten hele tiden! Jeg likte veldig godt variasjonen på våpnene og de ulike kreftene en kunne få. There were occasional bugs that are annoying when there are no checkpoints in the game. But other that that I can note a great design, self aware and interesting dialogues, multiplayer that I really enjoyed and unique mechanics. Hope there will be a part 2

Deathloop is an odd game. Its a game unique in its experience, an experience that may not be wholly original yet it succeedes in forming its own identity. It takes some time playing as both Colt and Julianna to understand exactly what this game offers but once it clicks it REALLY clicks.

This is just Waypoints: The Game. That beeing said. The sandbox is extremely fun.

    Pros:
    - The powers are great
    - Characters are fun
    - Artstyle is fantastic
    - You can really let your creativity out
    - It's very fun

    Cons:
    - Multiplayer just doesn't work (at least at launch)
    - There's no freedom in how to solve the main puzzle. You just have to follow the waypoints

If you are able to get through the first 6 hours of wondering why you paid $60 for this game, then you’re in for a treat. Once you unlock your first couple of skills, and learn the gameplay loop this game becomes a 10/10. Play if you like: Dishonored/Souls Games
Stay away if you like: Hitman/Fallout

Exploring is very much encouraged. So, you could really create your own adventure. It has been a long time that a game wanted me to keep playing and keep coming back for another run. I'm not sure why anyone would think this is a bad game, but if you want a nice straight forward shooter to play for couple of minutes or a game you can invest hours in. you can can do both with Deathloop. Great game. It's tight and well designed and doesn't overstay its welcome or overdo it's premise. The game gives you space to explore and discover how to break the loop without getting stuck or lost. Overall it bends a ways away from standard gameplay but not so far that a casual gamer will get bored before they've figured out how to play it.

You're Colt, and you're stuck in a timeloop of living the same day every single day on an island with a rival Assasin that other players can control or AI, and so-called Eternalists (standard mobs) who presumably are there by choice to live forever, and 8 visionaries which act as the game's bosses that you need to study and manipulate so you can kill them all off in a single in-game day to end the loop. There is surprisingly no timers during the actual gameplay so you can take your time to explore each map as long as you need, but you will mostly come to one of the 4 areas during specific times of the day to chase leads to ultimately unlock your knowledge to create a plan to off all the 8 visionaries in a single day.
The environments are jampacked with great visual detail and storytelling through audio tapes that you can find, and notes including computers that the Visionaries chat with each other on that give you information that you can use to your advantage. There are fun guns that feel satisfying to use, as well as powers that are similar to what you had in the Dishonored games such as a teleport and telekenisis like powers or buffs. From killing Visionaries and the rival assasin Julianna you can loot Residuum, a resource which allows you to infuse powers, guns to be able to keep them forever even through timeloops... This allows you to progress your power and allow you to build different loadouts of guns and perks. The combat itself is pretty easy to cheese, and ammo is plentiful, i rarely felt the need to stealth and it's also easy to run away with your blink super power that allows you to get over rooftops with ease, especially after upgrading it. But all in all the game does what it does well, and I am excited for the future of such games involving timeloops.

/Here you play as Colt, stuck in a loop, and to break the loop you decide your going to kill all of the visionarieries.. heres the problem… theres are 4 levels… and 4 times of day.. there are 9 total people to kill… and every day the loop restarts.. basically everything you do in a day is reset as if it never happened, so what youl lbe doing is day by day, morning noon afternoon nd night, finding a new lead, gathering more and mor information so that you can learn their on repeat daily routines, and find the moments where your targets are on the same map at the same time, or find ways to sabotage them for later on… and I loved it.. im so surprised how much I loved this game especially since the hwole point is to play the same 4 levels over and over and over across 12 hours… I though t there is no way Im going to enjoy this. Especially as a backtracking hater.. but I loved it.. here you start with one gun and the ability to double jump, as you go through levels youl lhave to take guns from enemies, you can stealth through this game or go in guns blazing, but you have to be careful, youre only allowed to die twice in a level, if you die a 3rd time the entire day restarts and you lost everything you’ve collected.. you also lose it all at the end of the day, but eventually you do have the ability to collect the games in game currency to be able to infuse your gear and restart each loop with it. But where is all the best gear? Its on your targets.. so you can kill these 9 harcters over and over and over, getting the best weapons in the game, but not only that.. they have abilities oy uxn infuse and take with you, like the teleporting ability from dishonored, you can link enemies together and if you kill one in a link they all die, you can turn invisible, do a force pushl.. the abilities and combinging them with eachother and your weapons make this game so fun.. and as you keep killing these charcters, if you already have that ability oyull gain an upgrade for that ability… its not all huntig and lead finding though theres a charcter called jullianna that’s trying to protect the loop..she is either controlled by a friend, a random person online, or the computer depeneding on your game settings, she can come in at anytime trying to kill you, though you do get some nice rewards if you kill her first.. but you can also just escape if she enters..
Deathloop is a crazy game, it’s a blast at times.. but the game does definitely overstay its welcome a bit.. especially for a gme that expects you to play out the same scenarios over and over and over.. by the end I was just dashing through levels as fast as I could.. no care to explore.. felt no incentive to explore and the game definitely isn’t the best to look at.. how are we in 2021 on new consoles, with a AAA developer in a game where there are only 4 not that big levels.. and it looks like a late ps3 game..
And other tiny gripes but gripes that do exist, are the missions where you can make one small mistake and oyu have to restart the entire loop.. there are no checkpoints here.. so while you can cheese it by closing out the game and loading back in if you die too much or make a wrong choice, its still annoying to have to start the whole level from the beginning
Overall though Deathloop is such a unique game that I ended up loving almost as much as the dishonored series..
    I give Deathloop
    an 8.5/10

I love Arkane's work. Dishonored and its story DLC is arguably my favourite stealth/immersive sim game and I always find myself replaying it. I don't adore Dishonored 2/DOTO nearly as much, but still think they're enjoyable experiences in their own right. Prey is fantastic, criminally overlooked, and its DLC, Mooncrash, is possibly even better. It seemed like this game was meant to be the idea of Mooncrash expanded into a full-blown experience. The end result is a game that's *fine*, but far from Arkane's best work IMO.

The concept is cool, but the story and characters end up being just ok. Colt is an entertaining protagonist, but not a whole lot is done with Juliana and a lot of the stuff with her, particularly her relationship with Colt and the loop, falls flat due to the lack of character development/screen time. I also think the three possible endings are all pretty lacklustre, but I doubt narrative is the reason people play Arkane games.

Investigating the eight visionaries and planning a route where you can assassinate all of them to break the loop sounds like a neat concept, but is botched where it counts. Investigating is largely non-linear, suffers from a bit of hand-holding, but is ultimately satisfying. The problem, is that there's only one route you can take to break the loop. Certain visionaries have to be killed in certain places, and at certain times, which kills a lot of potential replay value. There's also no option to go non-lethal with these guys, which I'm sure most won't take issue with, but it's definitely worth mentioning. I know that the idea of violence and murder is core to the theme and narrative but I think a lot of people play these games for player choice.

Speaking of player choice, there's an okay amount of it here, but its extremely lacking in comparison to games like Prey and Dishonored. The biggest offender is that you can only have two of the five powers equipped at any given time, and you can't change this until you move to another district. I'd argue that most players will have Shift on most of the time for traversal's sake, meaning you only have one slot for whichever power you want. Additionally, none of these powers are particularly unique or new. Karnesis is similar to Windblast, just with directional inputs. Nexus works like Domino, just as an AoE projectile now, Shift is Blink, Aether makes you invisible, and Havoc has you deal more damage and take less. For a game that encourages you to 'play your way' it feels needlessly restrictive and watered down because of the lack of unique powers and equipment.

There are some things the game does well, like the Infusion system which allows you to bind items to Colt cross-loop. You really have to think about what to spend your Residuum on between runs, which makes for some great delineation of what to keep and what to chuck Player controlled Juliana invasions are great, incredibly tense and arguably the best part of the game when it works. The initial groove of building up an arsenal of powers and weapons has a strong sense of progression, and you really feel like you learn about the loop alongside Colt. Gun-play feels great overall, weapons are fun to play around with, great soundtrack, sense of style, and theme.

    Random thoughts
    - Weapon rarity feels half-baked and pointless
    - Opening hours/tutorial sections are boring
    - Districts seem big at first, but are quite small, and lacking content
    - AI is way too easy for a game like this, and lacks difficulty options

I think that this game will do wonders for some, and I'm glad that they can enjoy it for what it is. I think if you haven't played Mooncrash, the novelty and concept of the loop will carry a lot of the experience. For me, this just didn't hit, and I'm disappointed because I was really excited for it. I don't think it's bad per se, but not worth it at full price, especially given its technical state which I won't comment on, there's enough of that around already. It's a perfectly fine game, but if you like Arkane game's for their depth, replay value, and player choice, you might want to hold off on "DEATHLOOP" until it's a bit cheaper.

I think if you're looking for a stealth game.. this is a bad pick. The A.I is fine for combat encounters but way too jumpy for sneaking and since you can't save during a level and there are no checkpoints it's too easy for it all to go wrong. Instead it's just way more fun to think of it as an action game with stealth elements. I generally carried a rifle with explosive rounds and used an ability to link enemies so I could take a bunch out at once. I had a ton of fun leaping across rooftops too and feeling like a badass.

There are a few negatives though. The story just isn't very good. Really cool concept but there aren't any proper cutscenes after the opening mission. So most of the story is delivered through dialogue over a radio at the start of a mission or through notes scattered around maps. There's one big thing we learn about some of the characters later on which is revealed in some notes you read and it just didn't leave much of an impact. Plus Colt never justifies his reasons for breaking the loop. He's clearly a talented killer and if i'm having fun then surely he is too. He doesn't seem to have any reason to give up his immortal life as a hunter.

Aside from that there are a couple of glitchy trophies and I think the game could use a mission restart so when you're trying to get different achievements and you mess up then you can easily try the mission again from the start. A checklist would be really cool for keeping track of completionist stuff too.

Overall this game was just a ton of fun. The dishonored series never clicked for me. Prey was incredibly atmospheric and fun but I wasn't in love with the combat. Deathloop is probably my favoritie arkane game now and I'm really excited to see what they release next.

It’s got a dense story (almost too dense!) and an absolute ton of puzzles which I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of. I see lots of complaints about the graphics, and playing on PS5 in 4k I have no idea what the issue is. It’s not going to blow anyone away but I had no issues with them and enjoyed the overall style and design Arkane took with this title. I’d have liked a few more weapons (you get the sniper gun far too late in the game) and having only 2 slots for slabs was frustrating, and meant I pretty much used only Shift and Aether the entire game.

Overall this was a super experience and I’d recommend anyone who found the opening too slow (and stopped playing) to just be patient. And any complaints about gun jamming etc. happens in probably about the first 5% of the game, after which point you’ll never experience it again (as you start building your custom loadout through infusion). Though this game isn’t for everyone, I’d definitely put it as one of my favourite games of the year.

Then the player is often unable to progress until they solve the current mystery, either leading to some players getting stuck, or the game outright giving away the answer. While there have been some incredible small games that have overcome this (Return of the Obra Dinn leaps to mind) I had never played a game that gave me the feeling of a detective piecing together a giant web of interconnected secrets and clues... until now.

Deathloop is a giant (and frequently deadly) Rube Goldberg machine that begs you to poke and prod it, just to see what will happen. Levels that at first seem straightforward will begin to unfurl as you break different parts. You gain a strange sense of uneasy familiarity that perfectly reflects the story - eventually allowing you to bend the world itself to your will, watching as people act exactly how you wanted them to. You will chase piles of leads at once, often using the knowledge gained from one to solve the other. Your list of "missions" feels like the pinboard of a conspiracy theorist, and each new clue is one you sought out and earned yourself.

I won't say anything about the story itself, as this game should be experienced with as little spoiled as possible, but its full of fun characters and twists you'll probably figure out beforehand (but feel clever for having done so).

The gameplay starts out serviceable... if a bit dull and repetitive. It holds back many of the tools needed to be perfectly stealthy or incredibly strong, forcing you to seek them out yourself. It feels wonderful when you do reach this point, though the limited number of options you can take at any one time will likely mean you'll end up with a couple of favourites you always end up using for a large chunk of the game. The real strength of this game is how much freedom you have - you really can play this game however you like, though this does mean that no single style of play feels as polished as it could have.

Overall, this is an incredible game that has something for everyone - I highly recommend it.

That being said the game itself is great. If you liked Arkane's other games but found yourself quicksaving between every encounter, removing the tension out of the game, then I'd say this game is the perfect fix for that. Death is, as you can guess from the title, integrated into the story, and quicksaving is removed completely. This makes every combat feel more impactful and fun.
The characters are charismatic and have fun dialogue (that goes for the NPCs as well), the game's villains all have unique quirks that make it a blast to go after them, and there are loads of details to encounter on each level.
There's only one difficulty which is probably due to the online aspect of the game. In which other players can take the role of the antagonist of the game and try and kill you. Another complaint I have is that you can't pause the game because it is online, and there are no checkpoints between levels so you have to sit through the entire level before quitting.
The powers are not the most original, they borrow quite a few from the dishonored series, and they took the stamina model from Dishonored DOTO instead of 1 and 2. This is probably to prevent people from never using their powers because they're afraid they'd run out. But it limits the potential of creative plays you can pull off.

In Deathloop you play as Colt who is reliving the same day on the island of Blackreef. To break the loop, you must eliminate 8 visionaries in the same day but the antagonist, Julianna Blake, who also retains their memory between loops stands in your way. Each day is divided into 4 time periods and you can visit 1 of 4 distinct areas. As targets only appear in a specific area and time, your job is to investigate to find info and a way to eliminate all targets in a single loop. The game has a rarely seen and striking art style, 1960’s retro-futuristic. If get looped then you will lose all your gear and start back at the planning screen similar to a rogue-like. But unlike this sub-genre, you can find a way to save your gear between loops.

Story wise the game shows its hands very earlier on, explaining the loop. Instead, players must find answers behind Colt’s history and their relationship to Julianna. However, there are still major story gaps once the game concludes. The voice acting of Colt/Julianna is top notch and there is great chemistry/banter when she calls you on the radio, however she does not appear in many scenes after the prologue. Visionaries all have a distinct style and enough reason is given as to why they are deemed ‘bad’ to justify their elimination but the game doesn’t dive deeper in to their background and they have little interaction with Colt.

The game’s USP is the loop mechanic where players can view information or take action to influence events in different time periods or loops. E.g., Preventing a fire that would normally burn down a building to retrieve a key code to get closer to a target. Finding these codes are a big part of the game and they are different for every player (so no cheating) but they are the same across each of your loops. However, I found the game tends to hand hold you too much across each of the leads and even explains how to eliminate all targets once you have completed all the main leads, thereby reducing the detective work/mystery for the player.

You can die twice per time period, with the third resetting the loop. In addition, you can choose 2 out of 5 powers to equip such as Shift a short-range teleportation (Blink from Dishonored) but this feels like a necessity thereby reducing loadout variety. The arsenal is quite small with 8 normal guns and 4 unique legendary ones. The former can come in 3 rarities with the highest, purple/exemplar, having a (mostly) random perk. You can equip up to 4 character trinkets and 3 weapon trinkets per gun that gives buffs. You will learn the infusion ability early on and can find residuum around levels to save gear between loops.

A major critic is poor AI of the NPC enemies in game who have awful stealth detection and you can easily funnel them down a corridor if you go loud. As you defeat visionaries, the loop stress increases which means enemies have better loot and are supposedly tougher. But I did not find this to be the case, no new tactics and headshots are still effective. If there are targets still in the map, then Julianna can invade your game (NPC controlled). She poses more of a challenge depending on her power combo, and she locks your escape tunnels so you need to hack an antenna first (always in the same place) before leaving the level.

You can play as Julianna and invade other player’s games in a different mode. It has its own ranking up system that unlocks her gear and outfits for both characters, but it is randomised. As Julianna, you are at a disadvantage as Colt has three lives so I found stealth as the best option. It can be very exhilarating hunting down your target in a game of cat and mouse when it works. I have been disconnected a few times due to lag and the match had ended automatically once I loaded in. For Colt, invasion only begins at the start so you can rush Julianna’s spawn point to defeat her quickly. You can turn player invasion on/off as Colt.

Overall, I found the story and premise to be quite interesting and the gameplay was solid for the most part. It did not meet my expectations due to the ambiguous marketing (I expected Dishonored meets the Hitman series) since only 2 targets can be manipulated and there is only 1 set way to be able to break the loop. The four maps do change over time but they felt like the same and became fairly repetitive quite quickly. Deathloop also lacks end game content as there is nothing new to do, with your map knowledge jumping into Julianna’s mode is the best option. Within a week, I broke the loop many times and did some invasions, but I became fairly bored. Deathloop takes ideas from Arkane’s previous games but it is not an extension of them, instead it is an entirely new experience and stands on its own merits.

I cannot recommend purchasing Deathloop at full price on launch but I would suggest waiting for a sale and to watch gameplay videos. I give Deathloop a score of 8 out of 10.

It is fast and varied due to the different weapons and compact game worlds. Where there was the fear that it would soon feel repetitive, this feeling quickly disappeared due to the excellent level design, the unique game world, the music and voice acting of Cold and Juliana's. Also, the game does not leave you guessing in the dark by continuously providing enough information to always make progress in every loop. Altough, there are still some unanswered questions at the end of the story, when you finally start your final and perfect run, you actually had an amazing adventure you won’t forget soon.

    Pros:
    - Art design
    - Level design

    - Mystery of the story and world

    Cons:
    - Loading screens and connection to server between every loop - No quick save option if you have to stop unexpectedly
    - After completing the story there were still some unanswered questions
    - The already complicated story is mostly told by collectables
    - Anti-climax ending

All of the visionaries are unique and the witty banter between colt and juliana is perfect.
This game WOULD be a 10, the glitches do pull it

The story is just ok, but you don't really buy and play a roguelight time loop type of game for a story. So that is to be expected. Rather, the background lore, the characters, and the clues and information you learn about everything as you loop through each day is what makes this game great.

But take note: If you are the type of player who hates reading notes or listening to audio logs to get clues or learn objectives, and would rather just start shooting enemies - this game is NOT for you. That's not going to work well.

    Graphics - 10
    Gameplay - 9
    Story - 7
    Music - 10

    PVP Multiplayer Element - 10

The PVP multiplayer is the part that makes this game interesting, and it's ignored by many reviewers. Your main character Colt will have real live players "invade" as Julianna to try to kill you. This is not "run and gun" deathmatch. This is strategy heavy slow moving game play and there's nothing like it. If you want or expect matches like Call of Duty this isn't it. You can't play it like that or you will die. Better aim or faster reflexes alone won't win, you have to outsmart your opponent. There are complaints on line about lag, but it's not the game's fault. Since it's peer to peer a good match requires good connections on both ends. When that happens you have a good lag free game.

If I were to look at this game as single player only I would give it a solid 8. But with the multiplayer PVP element it's something special. Not perfect or "IGN 10/10" by any means but a real 9/10. When you finish the single player campaign, which is greatly extended and increased in difficulty if online is turned on allowing human invaders to challenge you, finish the game and become an invader yourself and enter other people's games. There is a reward system with weapons, mods and outfits to encourage you to keep playing.

All in all a very unique and fun game. There's nothing like it really. It's not a reskinned Dishonored at all Arkane really came up with something new this time around.

In fact, the only reason I got it is because we have very few PS5 games available these days and I really wanted to make sure I tried something that was meant to run on this beautiful dust collector I got for myself almost a year ago.

And oh boy am I glad I bought Deathloop.

First of all the game feels original to me. People here keep talking about Dishonoured, but I never played that game so I had nothing to compare it to. Some have even brought up Hitman as a possible source of inspiration for the game, but I don't really see the similarities. I have been a Hitman fan for years and I just don't see it. Deathloop seems a lot more interested in telling a story, something Hitman gave up on a long time ago. Gameplay is also drastically different here.

Something else I liked about Deathloop is its aesthetics. The world is simply gorgeous. It reminded me of this game I played ages ago called XIII which had this comic book look and style to it. I played the game in Performance mode, which was great. The ray tracing option is fantastic as well, but framerate drops to 30 which bothered me since I quickly got used to 60 fps in Performance mode.

The story is great, the side missions are unique and original (though their rewards don't match the effort you put in to get through them), and the gunplay is just phenomenal. The DualSense really made the experience special for me, and my only complain is that I wish they had put together a larger arsenal. Come on, the over-the-top gameplay and gun battles is screaming for crazier options (i.e. flamethrower, meat grinder, bazooka, etc.).

I'm now trying my hand at the multiplayer and I really hope people will get into it because I'm having a blast. Playing Julianna and stalking Colt is really a lot of fun.

I will end by sharing my biggest complain with the game (and the reason I can't give it a 10) which is the fact that the game often crashes on me, to the point where it can get very annoying. This new trend that has games being released half broken is starting to bother me and I would have given Deathloop a 5 if I hadn't had as much fun as I did.

Again. A great game. In my opinion, a must-buy for PS5 players.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For starters one of the more interesting themes for a game I’ve played in a long time and the story was very good. The dialogue between Colt and Julianna is amazingly written and portrayed even better. The controls are great never had a problem remembering any control binds.
The game has a lot of exposition which if you like that kinda stuff this game is definitely for you. The endgame was kind of disappointing with each of the 3 choices leading you to a rather disappointing ending. The game has some of the worst AI I’ve experienced in a game, on launch day I had lots of bugs and a few crashes but after the first day the game ran smooth with no problems. It took me 14 hours to beat the game, that was with me looking around and searching like I usually do. If you knew what you were doing you could probably beat it a lot faster. I feel an 8 is a pretty fair rating, It’s too bad any PS fan who likes this game won’t be able to play a sequel thanks to MS.

+ The overaching goal of completing the "perfect run" is challenging in itself to figure out and execute if you turn off the objective markers.

Cons: - While the overarching goal of the game is challenging enough, the moment to moment gameplay is not at all challenging; enemy AI is extremely dumb and I never once felt like I had to slow down and be careful (I believe this to be an intentional design choice since it is fun to go on mindless killing sprees) - Graphics aren't bad, but not what you would expect from a next gen title
    - Game has some deadzone issues with gamepad joystick control

P.S I've been seeing a bunch of 0's and I would like to address them:

-No, it's not dishonored Arkane wanted to make a new experience not dishonored 3

-The second complaint I've seen is that the shooting feels "stiff" while I do see where these people are coming from I think that it was a deliberate choice to make it feel "stiff" Arkane didn’t want the game to feel like some same old shooter

-The game looks, plays, and sounds fine it’s not outdated while I will say the quick-swap/d-pad buttons took a little bit to getting used to, but after roughly an hour in it felt great to use. I already talked about how it plays above, but if I hear any more people complaining about the sound design I'm going to scream because the score and sound cues are some of the best I've EVER heard.

-Finally, while bugs are a problem they didn’t really hinder my experience that much maybe 2 or 3 crashes

(I also think this hate stems from the immersive sim community expecting perfection from everything. take cyberpunk for example sure a bad game but it still got WAY too much hate.)

One of the best games I've ever played. Amazing. level design is one of the smartest iv come across, AI can be questionable at times but what game isn’t these days, that roguelite immersive sim where you need to look for clues instead of being streamlined down a road and looking at icons on a map. It's just fun to play.

The people review bombing are salty idiots mad over a game they clearly didn't play. Phenomenal game from start to finish, genuinely enjoyed it from start to finish. The trailers honestly made it look a lot less interesting than it ended up being. Lot of replayability and freedom, and the game just looks pretty. Hoping for a sequel.

After getting past the introduction and into the looting and infusing, this game has an extraordinary gameplay loop. It is a shame I can no longer trust user averages when making educated purchasing decisions. I am glad I trusted the critics this time.

It is a 9 that I am bumping 10 in order to counter the bot bombing.

Is it a fun game? Yes. Is it innovative? Kind of. Did you enjoy the multiplayer? Hell no. I would still consider this to be a good game, but I feel like this game has potentials that the developers were just too reluctant to work on.

A lot of people are complaining about how the game wastes their time because they lose all their progress after getting looped. They give it a bad review. They give it a bad review. Honestly, you're complaining because a game isn't easy, which is lame. The game is a challenge, it isn't supposed to be a straight up simple shooter. Also, another complaint is the levels, that there are only four or that they are too small. These people clearly haven't played the game passed the early stages. Each level at each time period is different, with whole new level stages and different enemy layout, so no not just 4 levels there are 16 technically. Also, once you actually play the game a bit, especially play it online, you understand the level design better, the design is kind of brilliant because it is designed to work as a single player and multiplayer map. Playing online you get to see how thought the levels are small, they have an almost open world aspect to them as you can leap through the map and climb almost everything, finding caverns and extra rooms depending on which time it is. To those dissing the graphics, I don't know maybe you have a bad TV, I thought the graphics, along with level design and character design were awesome and unlike anything I've seen before in a game. The gunplay does take a little while to get used to. It isn't like a typical FPS because this game isn't really a typical FPS, the use of powers which you progressively get make the pacing of the gunplay much more clear, I thought it felt awkward for the first couple of hours I played the game too, then it kind of clicked and I saw how it worked. Anyway, the hate is totally unwarranted and comes from people not understanding what they are getting into (even though the first two hours+ of the game explains it all to you). A lot of people complain about things that are just part of how the game is supposed to be. If you don't like it, fair enough, but to suggest this is a bad game is ridiculous. Also, clearly there is a campaign against the game, this has biased and distorted the reviews. A lot of people likely went in with all the noise from the campaign and had it bias their perspectives too. It is too bad because we cannot actually get a genuine review of what players actually think of the game because there are so many zeros and low scores that are by people who haven't played it or who went in with no intention of liking it, not fair reviews of the game. The bad reviews, and mediocre reviews are full of clear misunderstandings of the game mechanics and design right off the bat that people who actually have played through the game more than just a little bit, have done the whole online bit, and really dug into the game know right away these reviews are from biased brains who haven't given it a fair chance at all. Bought the game on impulse and was pleasantly surprised. Mechanics felt fluid, really fun concept and great story. Only thing is certain slabs felt pretty game-breaking (Looking at you shift slab) and pretty much let you breeze through the game once you have it.

A lot of reviews said this game "Brings nothing new" or "Tries to be too many games at once." I personally had a great time with the game as a whole. I found the gameplay bends to your will, how YOU want to play. I went with a more fast-paced game plan and the game gave me that. 90% of the time if I died it was my fault, so I could learn from my mistakes and soon could get past that part with no problems. I personally like the look of the game, the levels and the game does reward you for taking in the surroundings, with interesting dialog, some clues to possible loot, etc. For the most part, AI was fine, except for Julianna's offline, sometimes she just stood still or even got stuck on objects which kind of took away from the daunting feeling of getting hunted after the first 2 or 3 times as I knew she would just wander or stay still. The characters I find very enjoyable, especially the dialog between Colt and Julianna, were pretty clever and funny to me. The story I found quite engaging, I will not do spoilers or anything. There is really only 1 reason I don't give this a 9 or more. If you're like me and like to binge a game as soon as it comes out, I did feel it was a bit short. Finished in about 2-3 days. Also, the occasional glitch occurred with my game freezing when I paused once and I had to restart when I was deep into a mission. Apart from that I really enjoyed Deathloop, found it a really new and fresh experience, and it somewhat (Not totally) gave me some faith back in Bethesda after the TITANIC MELTDOWN that was Fallout 76. Hope everyone has fun with it. Expand

Absolutely loved this game on PS5. It takes the best bits from Dishonoured without punishing you for breaking stealth. The combat is great and super satisfying, while stealth remains a useful and viable option (until all hell breaks loose). I made an account here to positively review this game as it does not deserve the hate.

Deathloop offers well-designed stealth levels under the core gameplay of Roguelike. At the same time, the variety of weapons and special powers also support the exciting combat. Julianna's "invasion" adds the uncertainty of the game, but may also spoil the player's experience.

I’m honestly surprised, because I did not expect to have so much fun with Deathloop. It draws some gameplay ideas from Dishonored, but introduces time-related mechanics, offers an intriguing story with interesting characters and has its own unique and coherent style. It’s an original game, full of surprises and addictive, but not necessarily easily digestible for everyone. For me however it’s one of the best titles of 2021. [11/2021, p.22]

Deathloop is Arkane at its best, combining its system-driven immersive-sim gameplay with a unique and fascinating story set-up. Excellent presentation and style, along with fantastic dialogue and character performances makes Deathloop one of the most innovative games in years and a valuable PS5 exclusive.
