This is a faithful remake of Dead Space 1 with several changes that make it a better experience than the original: Combat has a better balance this go around, resulting in less weapons feeling like they are "storage fodder," and the additional side content brings a lot more to the story.

The game feels like a worse version of the Resident Evil series. You get plenty of ammo to deal with any and all aliens you come across and you will come across a lot. Some weapons are clearly superior to others. In fact and I found this to be quite funny the weapons that are the far superior weapons are the tools that any mechanic would be using. They are far stronger than any military issue assault rifle or pistol that i found and tried to use only to find their damage output lacking. There are sidequests that aren't really sidequests as you will likely complete them just going about the main quest line. The sidequests felt included to just kind of check a box rather than something that a lot of time was spent on. Speaking of the story it is actually really good. It felt good slowly repairing the ship to try and make it home. The enemies are extremely fun to shoot off their limbs and there are alien possessed babies that you can stomp to death. Which I did, a lot. Took no time at all getting used to shooting off limbs instead of going for the head as that is the main gimmick with all the enemy types you come across. Their weak points are their extremities not their heads. Only negative with the combat really is the game has a really bad habit of spawning enemies behind you. Which unless you know they are there will almost guarantee you take a hit, which is an issue as the enemies deal a ton of damage. You get pseudo super powers as you cross further into the ship. With the stasis power being extremely powerful and something I found myself using for nearly every enemy encounter. You play in the third person camera angle which is great as the devs take full advantage of this by putting some of the HUD on your characters back, such as health bar and stasis meter. This was an incredible idea as it allows us to easily see our health bars and other meters without having to take our eyes away from the action. There is some resource management but you do get a ton of inventory space as you upgrade your suit, so much so I was able to carry four weapons, several stacks of ammo for each weapon and health packs. All while having room for anything I may pick up along the way to store in the store for later use. Dead Space is a game that starts out somewhat difficult but gets easier as you progress further into the game. This would vary with how much you explore and how you upgrade your weapons. Actual score of Dead Space is a 7/10, but lowered to a 6/10 because of EA being a garbage publisher that murdered Dead Space's original development studio. Expand

This is a very nice remake of a great game. The weapons and kinetic upgrade are fantastic and feel great to use. The enviroment of the game is scary and always keep you alert no matter where you are. The only negative i would give it is that a few times the game would glich and i couldnt get through a door or an area, causing me to reboot the game.

I can see how it is a really good game but I am not sure I like resource constrained survival horror games anymore. I loved RE4 because I never felt like I was that short of ammo but in Dead Space I found it annoying to have to manage. Constantly running out of ammo or med packs. I think I prefer horror games that let me just go ham and blast through zombies.

It's not possible to rate this game good. This a "remake" according to Devs. I can accept that outline of the story is the same but i cant accept wood made animations same or almost the same like in the original (which were great at it's time), poor dialog, poor face animations, object collision detect problems, worse cameras movements, enemy damage detection problems.
    Sorry but a little

Sorry but a little better graphics (rally not important) is not worth a sacrifices. For me it is a weird remaster maybe but broken with many aspects at the same time.
I couldn't finish this game is a real torture. Original Dead Space is simple much better overall experience.

This is Resident Evil 4 in space. The weapons and abilities are great. However, the game out-stays its welcome due to repetitive mechanics (please not another electricity-cog or zero-gravity puzzle) and missing quality-of-life (can't skip cut-scenes and few useful auto-saves).

The game is good. But that's because it's almost the exact same game as the original, just with with better graphics and improved audio... and a few gameplay elements added, very minor. I don't feel like this should be considered a remake, it's a remaster. I bought this expecting to have a completely different experience from the original, like other modern remakes such as FF7 and RE4.

The Zero-G sections prove to be a highlight, offering exhilarating and visually stunning gameplay moments that add depth to the horror elements.

While the game excels in most aspects, the later areas of the game can feel like a bit of a slog, slowing down the otherwise engaging pace. Despite this minor drawback, Dead Space remake manages to retain the quality of a timeless title, showcasing a map system that facilitates seamless navigation and exploration of the eerie space station.

In conclusion, Dead Space remake masterfully captures the essence of survival horror, delivering an amazing atmosphere, an intriguing story, and heart-stopping scare moments. The game's solid gameplay, impressive graphics, and thrilling Zero-G sections ensure an unforgettable experience. Which makes me all the more satisfied for me to say that not only has EA Motive delivered on that, but I would also argue that there's no reason to pick up the OG since this remake is that astonishing and certainly up there as some of the better video game remakes as of recently. Right off the bat, I'm probably one of the few supporters of Isaac's voice in this game since it gives him a personality and human charisma that was straight up non-existent in the original, the scares are admittedly not very scary for me personally (although I suppose it's because I usually don't get scared by a lot of things nowadays), the atmosphere though, is so much better here that I was always unsettled no matter what, the zero-gravity sections are INFINTELY better here compared to the original since Isaac floats and can move in all directions compared to the stiff Superman jumps here did in the OG. The bad meteor destroying mini-game in the OG is replaced entirely with linking your weapons to the cannons and shooting them that way, THE LEGENDARY FOAM FINGER IS BACK and just like in Dead Space 2 and 3, it never gets old seeing there enemies you tried to run away from wishing they could run away from you, the way it subverts expectations by getting you ready for something just like in the OG only to do something different to catch you off guard. One thing I appreciate the most is how the game is done in one shot like the recent God of War games to keep the game immersive although it kinda felt weird here for me since the God of War games had a lot of cutscenes and coming from those to a game that barely had any felt strange. The entire Ishimura is non-linear this time allowing you to backtrack to places you haven't been to before and before you think this causes the game to get boring since this could you'll go back to rooms you've potentially already cleared, the developers thought ahead and placed dynamic enemy placement so you'll stay on the edge of your seat regardless you cleared out a room or not. The game also introduces side quests and I wasn't sure if I was gonna like them since DS3's left me divided but honestly even though they're short, the fact they expand on the lore of this means they have a place in this game. The combat is still so satisfying with it flows and it's even better with some old abilities getting new purposes. The characters remain spot on and the performances given from the actors are so much better than the OG, the soundscape is better than pretty much ANY HORROR GAME out in the moment due to how the direction of the sound changes depending where Isaac is positioned, and then there's one more thing that makes it truly special: it's just so beautiful. Now I'm not saying that just in terms of the graphics (like genuinely, it is a genuine looker), there's also the smaller details like when Isaac sees messed up stuff, the controller vibrates to replicate his heartbeat, the enemies now have a peeling system to make killing them more realistic, and depending on his health, Isaac's tone wills sound different. Overall, I hope my fellow PS brothers can enjoy this game because I strongly recommend this game from the top of my heart because it really is that amazing and here's hoping EA Motive can learn from this to help give Dead Space 2 and 3 the respect they deserve (although 3 is gonna need to start from scratch for that to happen) and maybe even move the franchise forward Expand

A NEW JOURNEY INTO THE DEAD SPACE

    BEFORE WE START:
Dead Space Remake was developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. This title is a true reproduction of the original 2008 game, produced by the now-defunct Visceral Games. This product sets itself apart from the various remakes in today's market by offering new mechanics and paths compared to the original. The game has been 100% completed on Xbox Series X.

    THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS, AGAIN:
Dead Space Remake begins with an introductory scene to the game's story, showcasing the various members of the expedition, including the legendary engineer Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the entire trilogy. Unlike the original, he now has an uncovered face and sets the stage for the continuous feast of visual and auditory delights that this remake offers to players of all categories. In fact, this cutscene fully showcases the graphical muscle it brings, with extreme attention to detail and visual effects, coupled with technically impressive audio. After this sequence, the player finds themselves guiding the engineer through the doors of the USG Ishimura, a massive galactic spacecraft dedicated to mining giant stars.

    LOST IN SPACE-SHIP:
By now, the gaming industry has accustomed us to seeing great remakes adding a couple, or even no new mechanics compared to the originals. Fortunately, Dead Space doesn't disappoint in this regard either. Several sections have been updated and modified to provide a different experience even for those who have played the original. One significant mechanic that has significantly changed the approach to certain areas is the energy convoy system. This allows the player to redirect energy to specific structures such as elevators or doors at the expense of life support systems or, even worse, lights. This obviously adds more variety compared to Dead Space's typical linearity and gives the player more decision-making power. Finally, the last two major changes are the addition of more interactive objects on the map for defensive use, such as carts or pipes that can be used as spears, and the ability to explore a fully interconnected Ishimura, blocked only by security doors accessible during the story.

    THE VISIONS IMPROVED THE GRAPHIC:
It's challenging not to fall into banality when talking about a remake that has improved every single aspect of the game. The lighting has been extensively enhanced and structured to evoke different sensations such as anxiety and anguish, or tranquility and solitude. The colors, faithful in every situation, perfectly convey the feeling of being immersed in deep space. The attention to detail, whether it's the decorative posters, billboards, wall writings, or various objects found throughout the game, builds a silent narrative necessary for such a dark title. Of course, there are some minor flaws, such as the animations, which are still below par compared to the rest, and some final cutscenes that feel hastily thought out and concluded.

    SOMETHING IS COMING:
The audio department, even more than the graphics, showcases a remarkable technical level. For this title, a new 3D audio technology was used, which utilizes extremely realistic sound waves that bounce off surfaces just like in the real world. It's worth noting that you need headphones with 3D audio to fully exploit this feature, but the regular audio, which is meticulously crafted, is still impressive in its own right. Focusing on the 3D audio, it's one of the best, if not the best, on the market, and it's especially utilized to its full potential in a game like this. By using this feature, you can hear enemies climbing walls or rooftops, allowing you to predict their direction. You can hear entities approaching from walls several meters away. Not only does this make the experience smoother, but it also makes it extremely more horrifying and scary due to the unpredictability of certain sounds.

    WHY A 10? (9.5)

    PROS:
Dead Space Remake, a reproduction of an already established masterpiece, improves upon 95% of the original, offering a multitude of new mechanics and approaches, a backtracking system, and terrifying audio and visual aspects. These aspects make it feel like a new game even for those like me who have completed the first Dead Space multiple times. Additionally, it provides access to the Impossible difficulty right from the first playthrough, a brilliant choice that allows veterans to enjoy a completely balanced challenge from the start.

    CONS:
The negative aspects of this masterpiece are limited to the simple question, "Was it necessary?" This is because the original Dead Space from 2008 didn't need a remake. I believe that every fan of the saga would have appreciated a sequel or spin-off of the trilogy much more than this reproduction.

    RATINGS:
    Gameplay: 10
    Music: 10
    Story: 9.5
    Horror: 10

The changes here feel earned, and really manage to blur the line between the OG game and a modern release.
The original holds up well for a 2008 release, but the fresh look and visual redesign are absolutely impeccable. It holds the same tone and amazing ambience that the original had, while elevating it with the new lighting and smoke effects.
It’s a stark reminder of just how good the OG Dead Space was, and just how sad it is that the series took the sharp turn in the wrong direction that it did.
If this opens the door to remakes of 2 and 3 (which I would be so onboard with), I desperately hope that they open up 2 a little to make it less of a straight corridor in terms of level design, and for 3.. well, maybe they should just REmake 3 from the beginning, and actually make something approximating a survival horror game.

All in all: DS Remake is fantastic.

Isaac Clarke's original adventure is back in a new format, which has more depth in story and freedom in terms of gameplay. As a result, the game is recognizable, yet not the same which makes for a nice result. The game also has impressive graphics and the audio is unnervingly strong.
