The QoL additions are a game changer and I can’t imagine going back to the original control scheme. Unfortunately, some characters in the new English dub don’t sound as good as the original cast. On the brighter side, that is probably the only sore point I can find in the remaster.

Dead Rising was always an underrated masterpiece in my eyes, but with this remaster it feels like it has the polish to be truly deserving of that title, and the streamlined approachability means it can appeal to an entire new generation of fans.

More than anything, it’s a joy to see a game that means so much to me have the time and love it deserves poured into it by developers who clearly care about it just as much as I do. There was a chance that Dead Rising was going to be stuck in a grave forever, but Deluxe Remaster proves that the dead can, and should, rise again.

For those that didn’t experience Dead Rising back in the day, you are in for a treat. While not much has changed on the surface, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster goes so far beyond just giving the game a fresh lick of paint, tightening up gameplay, reimagining parts of the world, but still making for a damn fine and fun game to play. My concern overall is, will the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster do well enough to ever help justify a new game? The fans are out there, but after part 4, and a canceled sequel, I would remain cautiously optimistic. This is still a remaster that respects its roots in most ways as something that is a product of its time. If you can get past the time management frustrations and balance issues, and make sure to use all your save options, it’s still a bloody and entertaining experience worth the price of admission.

Is this new version of Dead Rising worth the investment? As a long-time fan, it’s an easy yes from me. The original experience still holds up to this day, despite some obvious problems that remain, and as much as I’d have loved if Capcom had tweaked other key areas or perhaps added some new modes or characters to the existing package, the visual overhaul and UI improvements make for the most polished version of Frank West’s escapades to date. I’m glad that the franchise wasn’t completely swept under the rug after all these years, and the hope now is that the respectful work put into this rerelease will lead to a full revitalisation in the future.

Dead Rising was released almost 20 years ago, making it a product of its time, but I feel the changes to the script were unnecessary and hurt the uncomfortable impact these characters were meant to deliver. The updated visuals and controls may entice modern players to this release, but the core systems that make Dead Rising a must-play have been here since the beginning, and I'm glad to be able to join in the hype surrounding this series.

The boss battles might’ve aged, but the decisions you’re forced to make under a 72-hour time limit feel as impactful as a well-timed flying wall kick. You’ll be alerted that survivors have died when you were never even aware of them, and new ones pop up all the time. It’s just as tense and sometimes overwhelming as making that crossing through the packed shopping center on Saturday, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As Halloween approaches, the Japanese group brings Frank West back from limbo in a more beautiful, better quality, but slightly cut version of Dead Rising (erotic photos). This Deluxe Remaster edition smooths out the rough edges of a "so 2006" gameplay with heavy hammer blows. The result is enough to make fans salivate, if not turn newbies into fanatics. In any case, Willamette has some nice leftovers that you'll enjoy fighting.

Unsatisfactory for those accustomed to open-world games of this decade and lacking as an (un)enriched re-release of a game nearly twenty years old, *Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster* risks ending up poorly. Fortunately, the charm of its original concept and the characterization of the game environment, along with some still-valid ideas, lift it from a fate of potential mediocrity. It will be hard to become as passionate about it as some did almost twenty years ago, and newcomers to Willamette won't find enough content designed for them. But all in all, a stroll through Al Fresca Plaza and a chat with the guy at the supermarket still work today... just much less than before.

A good remaster should preserve the original game while shining it up for modern audiences. In this case, I could've used a few more mechanical upgrades. The graphics have been majorly upgraded, which rules. And I appreciate having two different control schemes to switch between. But certain moves and skills still feel floaty and/or magnetic. Worse yet, there are core design elements that can't be smoothed over with a remaster. To be clear, this is the superlative way to play the first Dead Rising. But honestly, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is still the weakest entry in the series, at least for me.

The complete graphics overhaul is very welcome but it ends highlighting even more the age of the AI routines and the inaccurate hitboxes, which are both straight from the 2006 version.
