Oct 14, 2024Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, despite being another re-release, shows that Darksiders II is an incredible game that deserves more attention.

Oct 15, 2024While I wouldn’t call Darksiders II underrated, sales notoriously underperformed in 2012. Since then, lots of players have taken the opportunity to enjoy the game on a variety of platforms in the expanded and excellent Deathfinitive edition. Any fan of recent action RPGs will almost certainly enjoy Darksiders II’s combat and world. It looks great on the PS5 and anyone with the PS4 version gets a free upgrade. It’s definitely worth diving into again, or for the first time in the new version.

May 27, 2025A visually impressive port of a previously released action-adventure game. Anyone who is already a fan will enjoy returning to this with its extra polish. While the graphics are often commendable, there are instances where the art appears outdated or inconsistent. Fans of Zelda-style games may find this title appealing, as it offers a grand sense of adventure and exploration. Although it has its flaws, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition provides a satisfying experience for those seeking a more casual action-adventure game.

Oct 24, 2024Darksiders II: Definitive Edition is a rich Action RPG full of content that offers a great story, deep and engaging gameplay and a gorgeous art style. It has its own set of issues and looks dated if compared to full fledged modern AAA titles, but nevertheless if you have never played it before, you are definitely in for an exciting journey full of adventures.

Oct 22, 2024Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition Remastered is, again, a solid remaster of an already-great game. Whilst it may struggle to draw in newcomers, there's a reason why THQ keep trotting this out. Solid gameplay, fusing elements of other titles of the time, as well as a solid story make it a great time. Bolstered with updated visuals and all of its original content, it's certainly worth giving it a go if you missed it the first (or second) time around.

Oct 17, 2024Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition can’t completely shake off the look and feel of being a remaster rather than a full-fledged remake. But if you can overlook that quality, seizing control of Death is just as enjoyable as it was in 2012, thanks to Vigil Games’ deft sense of design.

Oct 14, 2024Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, in its PlayStation 5 version, doesn't really bring anything new to the essence of this great game, focusing instead on updating the visuals to native 4K, using ray tracing, haptic functions and fast loading. That said, it's still an incredible game, and deserves this lame excuse to be revisited again or experienced for the first time.

Nov 6, 2024Darksiders II remains a fantastic action RPG experience with a distinctive dark fantasy feel. It offers a rich, multi-layered gameplay experience with a unique protagonist, beautiful art direction, and a mix of combat and puzzle-solving mechanics that will keep you engaged for hours. The Deathinitive Edition, while not perfect, is still worth playing, especially for those who missed it the first time around or want to relive the adventure with a bit of extra polish and added content. With its discounted price and bundled DLC, it’s a great way to experience Death’s journey, even if the road isn’t entirely smooth.

Oct 14, 2024Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition is a PS5 and Xbox Series remaster with little new content. It's a fun game that includes all of the available DLC, graphical improvements and of course performance but it also adopts some issues from previous versions. If you haven't played it yet, now's your chance because it's the best game in the franchise.

Jan 22, 2025While the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition has plenty of positives in its column, this is primarily due to the original release already representing an impressive effort that is largely unchanged here. Frenetic combat and acrobatic exploration are still satisfying, with some optional collectible-hunting and a handful of other sidequests. The game’s lengthy dungeons and impressive graphics and audio have all been well-preserved, and the inclusion of all three DLC spells even more value for money. As positive as that sounds, there’s also a distinct sense of the game resting on its laurels. There’s a dearth of new features, from quality-of-life options to performance improvements — it’s worth noting that the game crashed a few times during the review playthrough. It seems there just wasn’t a whole lot of tinkering under the hood. Even story recaps, soundtrack samples, or cinematic galleries would have been welcome, but are all conspicuously absent, making for a barebones-effort remaster of an otherwise exciting game.

Jan 6, 2025Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition is a surprisingly enjoyable game with satisfying combat mechanics and intriguing puzzles. With all enhancements released so far, the title looks and works well – even by today’s standards. If you haven’t played it before, the free current-gen upgrade gives you a good chance to do so. At the same time, if you’ve already played Darksiders II, I wonder if 4K and improved shadows are enough to make you revisit the game. It’s up to you, of course; but if you ask me, in this case I’d try something more recent.
-
Dec 16, 2024Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition includes all the previously available DLC content, so in essence it's the most complete and full version of the original game, and as that - it's the most obvious choice to pick up for a first run or a spontaneous replay.
-
Oct 28, 2024Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition forgoes some of the bells and whistles of the Playstation 5 platform for a port that's more straight forward. It's a sharper looking version but not an upgrade that really puts the old consoles to shame. For anyone new, this is a solid opportunity to discover a game with clever dungeon design, solid enough platforming and engaging combat. There is a surprising amount of craft n display for something that derives so much from other games.

Oct 14, 2024Despite my moderate level of enjoyment, I’d still hesitate to recommend Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition unless you have a notable affinity with action games from the early to mid-2010s. Its drab and monotonous open world doesn’t do its bland exposition any favors. Nevertheless, the combat, customization, and puzzle design may win over the more patient types. Regarding this boosted port, it doesn’t warrant a replay for the average player by any means, but if you’re a veteran or new fan, there’s enough justification for giving this release a whirl.
