Great set-pieces and acting carry an uneven yet inventive campaign, and new skills complement 2.0’s combat tweaks – though it’s not quite a revelation. [Issue#33, p.88]

Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty is an excellent spy thriller that, despite numerous bugs, breathes new life into the base game. Highly recommended for all fans of the core game.

Phantom Liberty has some great moments, but it’s ultimately a by-the-numbers spy thriller with an uninteresting cast that can’t be saved by celebrity star power.

Phantom Liberty is a succinct summation of the best parts of Cyberpunk 2077 and all the strife it took to reach this point. It reflects on V’s story in a new, insightful way, and it’s maddening that it’s as good as it is, because I feel like I just got here. There aren’t many games that’ve made me feel such a push and pull, so maybe it’s fitting to watch it self-destruct in a spectacular explosion just as it course corrects. Much like V, my time in Night City is limited. I better make the most of it.

Phantom Liberty brings a lot of new things to see and do to Cyberpunk 2077, including new areas, quests, items, and perks, but at $29.99, it’s a very pricey upgrade. If you’ve wanted to take a spin through Night City again, update 2.0 is the perfect reason to do so. If you’ve got the eddies for Phantom Liberty, I think you’ll enjoy it, too.
