Crypt Custodian is a great game. It’s story is simple but defined by love, loss and resolve. The exploration along with the excellent music, made it such a comfortable experience. Then there is enjoyable combat and great boss encounters, with plenty of items & upgrades to build out your character Pluto. While there is map overuse, whether you play this for 15 hrs or 40, you should have a great time with this.

With an engaging lead, amusing story, crunchy combat, thrilling platforming, and a fascinating world to explore, Crypt Custodian is a near purr-fect metroidvania. Litter-ly one of the best I’ve ever played.

Kyle Thompson gets it right once again, making Crypt Custodian his best metroidvania yet and an easy recommendation. In this top-down world, we have a sprawling interconnected map, exciting boss fights, over 100 collectibles to find, and a simple but captivating story. On top of that, Pluto's adventure in the afterlife is an example to be followed in terms of quality of life features that value the player's experience.

A Metroidvania for newcomers and veterans, Crypt Custodian does so much to be a well-paced journey. Frenetic battles, engaging secrets and a cute cast to cry over make the game’s less polished elements an afterthought.

And while the differences between each zone are mostly just cosmetic, they all feel distinct enough with varied colours, enemy types, and overall themes. A chill soundtrack enhances the laidback and friendly tone kickstarted by the visuals and general gameplay direction, making Cyrpt Custodian a relaxing experience just as much as it is an entertaining one — an impressively accomplished game all in all.
