Code Violet is one of those games that is born convinced it has something to say and dies without ever really finding the right words. It leans on a powerful imagery, uses it as a crutch, and then lets it fall, unable to stand on its own. A spectacular failure, and this is its true problem: it is a timid, confused product, lacking the identity necessary to turn inspiration into vision. When you play with the ghosts of the past, you should know how to evoke fear, not nostalgia. Here, neither happens, and all that remains is the feeling of having witnessed a wasted opportunity.

As the self-proclaimed torchbearer of one of the industry’s cult classics, Code Violet fails to meet the standards or even do a decent job of representing the action horror survival genre. Its weak gunplay, baffling art direction, rough animations, and even more confusing plot serve as a reminder that maybe some things should be left untouched.

Code Violet joins the long line of bad Dino Crisis clones and disappoints across the board.

Code Violet was expected to be the spiritual successor to Dino Crisis, but expectations have taken their toll. Teamkill Media repeats the same mistakes it made with Quantum Error, with a shooter that borrows elements from various survival horror games without fully understanding them. Although it can be fun at times, the combination of disparate and nonsensical mechanics, technical glitches, and poor design decisions ultimately results in a product that is not worth its $50 price tag, nor even close.

Code Violet is not the Dino Crisis successor you may have hoped for. It doesn't even clear the bar of being a successful clone of the various other third-person shooters it cribs most of its ideas from. Its dated map layouts and visual style let its predecessors down. The only weight I felt from its convoluted story and flat, empty characters were on my eyelids. Its anemic host of enemies are dull, and far more scary are the amount of bugs that were in this review build that, though a priority on developer TeamKill Media’s list of fixes, hit Code Violet’s balance and pacing like a life-ending comet from outer space.

Code Violet is a mess. Crummy combat, tedious exploration, technical problems. The sexy costumes and horny camerawork seem at odds with both Violet as a character and the tone of the writing. Even at six hours long it's tough to recommend, because in six hours you could just watch Jurassic Park three times. And if you did that, you’d never once feel the need to justify what’s currently on your screen.

Whatever this game attempts to do, others have already done, and done better. It would be a disappointing addition to the gaming libraries of most players, and it’s hard to believe a title could fall this flat in 2026. I wouldn’t recommend this even to someone who’s completely out of options; being bored with nothing to play is honestly preferable to experiencing this mess.

Code Violet was such a depressing experience, nothing works in this game and even when it does, it wasn’t even interesting to keep me going.

Code Violet is a deeply flawed survival horror title that struggles to justify its existence. While it offers occasional moments of visual density and fan service appeal, its lack of coherent design, constant technical issues, and frustrating gameplay mechanics make it a chore to play. The narrative is confusing, the systems are poorly explained, and the experience feels like a mishmash of abandoned ideas. Despite some visual ambition, Code Violet ultimately fails to respect the player’s time or intelligence.

The dreadful studio that brought you Quantum Error has delivered a game very much in line with its library of shameless trash. It is legitimately sad that not enough people knew of its lineage before Code Violet benefited from a whole lot of ill-gotten hype.

Code Violet is the worst game I've ever played. The narrative lacks any substance, and all of the characters are devoid of any personality. Further, all of the female characters are written to be mere objects designed for nothing more than sex appeal, which goes double for the protagonist. The gameplay and presentation are also extremely lifeless and boring, with neither having any redeeming qualities. Considering the game is $50, all I can say is this: do not buy this game.

An amateurish mess masquerading as a homage to Dino Crisis, which might be defensible as a well-meaning fan project, if it wasn’t for the outrageously unreasonable price tag.

90% of this game’s story happens in the final 10 minutes, but nothing is paid off, mostly because there’s nothing to pay off.

If you’re a die-hard fan of sci-fi and action horror with dinosaurs, you may find some elements to get excited about with Code Violet. It’s got potential in places, with some interesting lore sprinkled across the world, but it’s not going to be giving classic action horror titles a run for their pocket change anytime soon.
