Overall, I’d say that this is a good video game adaptation of a board game – the AI is competent enough to be challenging to average player, but not so strong as to be frustrating, and the graphics put the original cardboard and plastic game to shame visually. I wish there was more information on the rules and even gameplay tips, though, as well as more gameplay customization options. CATAN: Console Edition won’t replace sitting around a board with friends, but it’s a good enough option if you want to learn the game or just take a board game break when you can’t round-up your friends for a game night.

Catan: Console Edition does a good job of bringing the popular board game to life. It's a little bit bareboned but if you just want a simple game of Catan with friends or AI, this version is as good as any.

Catan – Console Edition is a perfectly fine adaptation of a hugely popular board game. The developers have done their best to make it work for both online and offline play, and present it gorgeously. I just wish that another, equally talented developer, took Twilight Struggle, or the Game of Thrones board game, or any of a few hundred other incredible board games and adapted those instead.

Catan: Console Edition has some design issues but can be manageable when desperately looking for a CATAN fix on current generation consoles. It certainly needs some work in its default setup, speed options, and dice-rolling mechanics, but for the most part, it still does the trick.

While it's functional I feel that Catan: Console Edition could have done a bit more to sway me from playing with its cardboard counterpart. The multiplayer features and AI do a lot for players who cannot get three friends together but some of its presentation, especially the audio side, leaves a bit to be desired. The app could also do with a bit of work to make it more viable. While I will be quite happy to play this by myself or when there is only two of us, it will never replace its board game equivalent. Catan: Console Edition could have been great, as it is, its serviceable, which is a shame.

A fun and accessible introduction to the world of Catan but technical failings and a lack of options mean it’s not quite the adaptation it could’ve been.

They're not even strong opponents individually, but, together they are a force to be reckoned with. Also, the dice rolls feel improper. Played a match where 6 (one of the top payouts if you know Catan) was only rolled if the robber was covering my 6 access point, the entire game! Full Review »

You can rest assured that the trading resources is completely unbalanced with the ai on your turns. On their turns boy do they love trading with each other. The Ai can use cards immediately after building them even though the player can't. Have a resource you need but haven't rolled it in a few turns? Dont worry the ai will put the robber on it and you will see without fail that number get rolled 5 times in a row. Very little customization available. Online games even less. Very bare bones game. $20 might be double what this feels like it should cost. Full Review »
