    Black Ops Cold War has an interesting campaign, with nostalgic characters and side missions that required your brain (yes your brain in a CoD game) to unlock by doing decryption puzzles. Moreover, they nailed that Cold War vibe in the campaign. However, campaign these days for CoD seem to be more of an afterthought, which is a shame as I grew up with playing through the campaigns of mostBlack Ops Cold War has an interesting campaign, with nostalgic characters and side missions that required your brain (yes your brain in a CoD game) to unlock by doing decryption puzzles. Moreover, they nailed that Cold War vibe in the campaign. However, campaign these days for CoD seem to be more of an afterthought, which is a shame as I grew up with playing through the campaigns of most CoDs. This one I felt was too short and not as uninteresting compared to the previous instalments like OG MW and BOPs1.

    Multiplayer lacks solid map design with only 2 maps that are actually enjoyable to play on. However, most maps are extremely campy? with way too much cover and players can blend to the terrain making it almost impossible to see them. The biggest downfall is the matchmaking in the MP, if you play good it will match you with really good players and if you play bad it will match you with not so good players. Making it hard to play consistently on a casual playlist and this type of match-making should be used in a ranked playlist. They need to change this ASAP. The plus side of MP is the gun customisation with it being extremely detailed, being able to see the complex stats of your gun make it easier and fun to customise to suit your playstyle.

    I really enjoyed this instalment's take on zombies and it is really refreshing to play in my opinion. With new enemy types and the main map being really fun to play on. I have not sunk as much hours on zombies mode as much as MP, however I do plan to play it a lot more.

    Briefly, the game occasionally crashes which is really a let-down and I have read articles of the game ruining the hardware of PS5s, which makes me extremely nervous to play it sometimes. Personally, I would recommend waiting for a sale on this one and also until they fix the crashing and the match-making issues.    … Expand

    Don't ask me why but this is the only COD game I have ever gotten into. 2 years laster im over 500 hours in. It's the only one I have enjoyed and ive played maybe 4 other titles never really got into the series. I wish I had an explanation. I don't. I just know 500 hours later in im still liking it better than anything else.

    Got it free as part of a ps5 bundle (the only way to get a ps5 currently it seems). It is apparent that with every passing year they charge you more and sell you less of a game. It is unfinished and STILL suffers from the same issues COD has always suffered with. Connection issues that make it more a battle of internet providers than of skill etc etc etc. A game that sells as much as CODGot it free as part of a ps5 bundle (the only way to get a ps5 currently it seems). It is apparent that with every passing year they charge you more and sell you less of a game. It is unfinished and STILL suffers from the same issues COD has always suffered with.     Just so BAD! I literally only play nuke town and zombies because it's just so **** Now I don't play it at all the game is so boring. Players jumping in the air to avoid being shot WTF is this game.

    I like this game its has an amazing campaign the best one years (not saying the mw campaign was bad though) i just enjoyed this one more i liked the multiple endings the zombies was also really fun and i enjoyed it alot. just the multiplayer was kinda trash. this game had a pretty bad launch when it came to crashing issues glitchy cutscenes Very unbalanced weapons. but after a while theI like this game its has an amazing campaign the best one years (not saying the mw campaign was bad though) i just enjoyed this one more i liked the multiple endings the zombies was also really fun and i enjoyed it alot. just the multiplayer was kinda trash. this game had a pretty bad launch when it came to crashing issues glitchy cutscenes Very unbalanced weapons. but after a while the issues got fixed and i could actually enjoy the game overall the zombies and campaign was really good. at least this game doesn't encourage camping every single corner like mw… Expand

    all I got to say is **** SBMM and the optimization for PC and some of the consoles. I remember when you could play this game without have to really try and the majority of the time I would do good (around 2.0KD), but now since activison wants everyone to lose some weight they make me have to sweat for like three weeks straight as soon as I do ok in this game (get 350+ SPM and 1.5+ KD).     The Zombie Mode is great! Haven't played the story but no one cares about it anyways. Now to the multiplayer. It was great for 1 week, the gameplay is fast-paced and most of the maps are nice too. Checkmate, Express, Satellite, Apocalypse, Zoo, Echelon, Rush, WMD and Garrison are also played like this by most of the players. The only maps i constantly had fun on are Cartel, Miami, Moscow, Raid, Diesel, Hijacked and Deprogramm. But when everyone would play on them like they were meant to almost every map would be a banger, so it's mostly the players' fault. So if you want to waste money and have fun for one week then i would recommend it. Otherwise just buy BO 4 it's better in almost every aspect.… Expand

    The game is awful. Gameplay, AI, it's just insulting how bad it is. The campaign is shorter than ever.
    It's impossible to play multiplayer, the connections and the dc's amount are tremendous.
    For them to ship a game like this is tells how much respect they have for their audience.
    Don't waste your money.

    This is just so bad. The story on the campaign is great, but the general gameplay is awful, seems like a bad mobile game with bad everything.
    Multiplayer modes are hideous, no TDM, no nice maps, and of course, no anti-cheat, because they make millions with these games but cant even invest in a god anti-cheat. The game is full of cheaters and it started in the beta!

The campaign is one of the greatest I've ever experienced in a Call of Duty game in the past eight years. The characters are all incredible, the missions are enjoyable, and the multiple endings are all interesting and fun.     Speaking off internet being required, this game requires 285 GB. You would think with that insane amount of GB, we would be seeing a very advanced game. The campaign is too short. The gameplay lacks innovation and it still feels like it is running in the exact same engine as the PS2 Call of Dutys. The developers were to lazy to compress their game. Also, this is a $70 PS5 game. I fail to see anything in this game that screams next gen. There are too many frame rate drops on the campaign.

    I really want to sit down and ask few questions to the people who made the story, ask them things like what they were going for and what message, are they trying to put out if any. I get a few hints in mind. And if it's true I think it's really bad for this game series. The multiplayer can be fun while keeping with the games theme and even giving you an introductory cutscene just it starting up to add to the set theme, but particularly in the multiplayer I don't like the animations in this game. I don't know if it's because I've been spoiled with the motion capture from on MW and there feel for realistic looking
    but fast gameplay they went for. But if I go play Black Ops 3 zombies for some reason I like the animations better. I have a theory that it cold war uses the game engine from Black Ops 4, and I didn't like how that game felt, and a lot of people didn't, as I've heard. As I was playing through the campaign i was thinking about this the whole time but didn't want to admit it but I'm going to admit it.... The reason why they called Black ops and why Hudson woods and Mason are in the game.. they pulled a Disney...you know like other new Star wars movie had all the old characters in it but they were not themselves and we're not involved in the main plot? Basically what they did it feels it me... Little throwbacks here and there but they pulled a Disney it feels like..... Maybe that's why they didn't cast the original voice actor for woods, he probably would have been pissed off like mark hamill was with Luke in The last Jedi. Look... nostalgia....is a good powerful, almost like a drug for the brain, and it helps give a happy feeling, a lot of people loved the original characters and there were bits of them in Black Ops 4, but it seemed like there was a trick for using nostalgia in a way to buy the characters, or the game. what I'm saying is like I tried to explain earlier I feel like they made a "Disney clickbait". If the original crew were not teased in the trailers in this game then not called Black Ops. I don't think it wouldn't have been as popular and I don't think much people would have bought it if it wasn't for them being in the game. They're nothing like themselves, of course they may not sound like them, but from what I know they could have got woods his voice actor easily but they didn't, and for some reason they got a guy who sounds like he's trying to sound like the previous voice actor.... why? I understand that their previous title did not go so well (Black Ops 4). But to bring back, beloved characters from the dead, so to speak, just to have the nostalgia feeling kickin so people would buy your game, then for them to be completely different. Why would you do that?I know people would complain to me and say that's what the new modern warfare did but the new modern warfare reimagined the whole Modern Warfare trilogy, but in modern times. This game, tried to put itself between black ops 1 and 2 story.. Matter of fact, I think they all do that, and the thing with these Call of Duty games. The theme is the story, and the setting, and if the story is good. The rest of the game feels and looks good. If the theme is trash. The rest of it all falls apart (zombies and multiplayer). To be brutally honest, I'm upset that they didn't try to get james C. Burns To play Woods again, as they did before. It makes sense if you were reimagining the story like Modern Warfare but they didn't, I want to know the truth of why they did not try to get him. I've seen a bunch of clips on YouTube of him acting, a bunch of interviews, and that's woods right there. you can't put the body of his character in people's views for nostalgia to get them to buy your game.     Treyarch has done a great job keeping the gameplay, maps and weapons fresh. The stroymode is interesting and keeps you engaged. The reason i gave it a low score is mainly the bugs in the multiplayer and the horrible spawning.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fun like the rest. Gameplay feels a bit on the simpler side compared to the last installment. This is either a positive or negative depending on the players preference.

    There's only 8 maps, a few of them I hate or feel like they were previously stolen or heavily influenced from another COD title. Guns are fine overall. There were balancing issues with the Mp5 but it was recently nerf.

    Perks are a pretty bland. I think this was a developer's choice to slow down the game play.
    Killstreaks are over done either.
    There's a new mode "Fireteam - Dirty Bomb" and perhaps I don't have the write to say this, but I only played it one time, and it's basically TDM with Warzone mechanics. It felt like a mess. Fights are intense and long but after so many minutes, people were just parachuting in the same building over and over. It needs a lot of work, but maybe it can get there. Ground War has 3 maps. One of them is a ship that either hated or love and you can just report there being only 2.

    A strong pro that isn't talked about. I've watch videos about how the attachments work and users are claiming the extra stats found on the weapon detail accurate. This makes for a more enjoyable experience when building your kit. It's still fun to mix and match. My domination build often entails a double smoke/double semtex to help hold points.

    The last thing I ever wanted from CoD series is realism - the only reason I buy CoD is that it's casual fast paced arcady shooter, so I consider Cold War being huge improvement(to me every single CoD is masterpiece compared to last year MW). It's fast paced, maps are better(but not perfect), perks are more balanced, TTK is little bit slower(but still quite fast), there is just 1 land mine with long CD, game actually has some colors, camping is not the only way to play and it can be countered. It's CoD again and not Insurgency clone made for CoD haters and realism seekers. First 10 hours I had flawless experience - it reminded me times of BO1 and BO2 which are my most favorite CoD games. I wanted to go for 8+ rating but then thick skill based matchmaking kicked in and it ruined my experience with game little bit(and little bit more). Hard campers and sweats started to often fill my lobbies again(but at least whole game is not designed only for them). There should be casual playlist with weak or none SBMM and ranked with this kind of SBMM with ranks and extra rewards. Also on some maps there are flashing textures(sand on Satelite, mountains on Cartel). This was not happening on beta. There are also small bugs here and there like unlockable calling cards are not saved when you pick them. Another problem is lack of 6v6 maps on release so for now its like 6.5/10 for me untill everything is fixed. After that and when they add more maps it would be like 7.5/10. If they add also ranked and nerf SBMM in casual playlist I would go even for 8.5/10 easily. No performance problems at all on my side, runs exactly as MW (i7-7700k+1080Ti), 80-100 fps 1440p maxed out(tested MP only)

    EDIT: Changed rating from 7 to 2 just because of SBMM... It's not objective but I just can't do this anymore. I like game itself in general (much more than MW) but I absolutely refuse to sweat each and every single game to my maximum potential just to keep 1,2+ k/d in CASUAL playlist. I am not ranked player in any game - I HATE e-sport and ranked tryhard-meta trend, only reason I was playing COD was because it's casual MP game and it's not anymore. Game offers absolutely no choice in this matter, no ranked vs quick match playlist, there is only ranked without rank. Burn in hell for ruining this casual MP series and otherwise good game with system like this. I hope at least Battlefield will never give up on completly random server list system... I always liked COD more but this is just unbearable. Game itself decide who and when will do well or terrible in each match, not player skill. You had 2 good matches? Bad for you, next 2 you will be annihilated... You suck in 2 matches? Well, here is your candy - you will be rewarded with some easy game next. This is not even multiplayer, it's just singleplayer with adaptive difficulty with players carefully picked instead of bots.    … Expand

Lobbies take longer to get into that 10 years ago, weapons that laser beam you because it’s better for new players to feel better about themselves, breaking the lobbies up after every single game.

Now they release 33% of a game, have you pay full price, and release items as time goes on so that they keep you in this loop of coming back to the game when they add something so you can always be entitled to make a purchase. We might as well just start buying half made cars. No brakes, just the gas pedal. Come back in a month for an update. That itself should show you how wrong this is.     The best COD game we've had after a long time! More fast-paced, better ranking system, zombies is hyping, and the Elims/death ratio is a helluva lot better than the K/D ratio of Modern Warfare. No more sweating to try to kill someone only to get the assist at the end. Also, can't wait for Battle Pass and League Play coming soon!! Game is so LIT

    Splitt screen dont work. 5 fps sometimes. My rounds ends with ce error.

    I can start the Story Mode again from begin...because my save data just missing. Too bad cant give -5 Points. Shame on this game

    Where do I even begin. Let's start with why even release this game the mess that it is. Modern Warfare is so much better do not waste your money on this game. It's a buggy mess that has more glitches than a Bethesda game. On top of that there are so many little exploitable things everyone uses so you die as you spawn sometimes. It's camper paradise and it's awful. Don't buy it!

    I haven't played a cod game since black ops 2 on Xbox 360, but my favorite cod game was modern warfare 1 and 2. I decided to get this cod because I wanted a solid mp, and cold war doesn't disappoint!!! Great game.

    I loved this game iam a huge fan of the seris its probably worth £49.99 if you really like the game seris the campaing mode is short and one of the missions is unplayably buggy slighlty pay to win but not much the zombies is pretty cool but the multiplayer is 100% better than moderwarfares.

With some balancing issues here and there (that ARE being patched) multiplayer makes for a very fun, however very death-prone rushing in headfirst, with insane time to kill so you cant wipe 2 guys quickly. Hardcore (which I almost always play in a COD game) is impossible to play however, with maps being much too big, much too open and simply unfeasible for this game. Zombies is amazing, the map is not the most inspired but the core gameplay loop has been revamped significantly from BO3 and BO4, making this game heavily entertaining and different each match of zombies. Campaign has a good twist to it and a trippy 2nd to last mission, but the preached "multiple endings" is only realistically 2, with just a monologue placed over your other previous decisions. Overall, this game is a step up from MW in terms of gameplay speed and entertainment, but a step down on the balancing, shadow work, and more. The graphics should be noted however. I am playing at max settings on PC and the game is significantly brighter, sharper, and better looking than MW hands down. Can not speak for console players however.… Expand

At the very least it's going to be a solid 8 out of 10 game overall for most people. I felt engrossed from start to finish and just the campaign alone was worth the entry price to me. I played a lot of the MP during pre-release so I know I'll have a blast there too. My review mostly reflects on the campaign. Multiplayer features are a bonus to me in terms of games featureset and not entirely the main course. For anyone who is wondering, this isn't a crappy port of a PS4 title. It feels substantially next gen in most respects. Sure there may be some bugs but those can be fixed. Plenty of replay value here too. Just don't take it too seriously, treat it like an action movie experience and you should have had plenty of laughs and smiles with this one.     First of all, game is running smooth as hell on PS5 and graphics are looking really good with ray tracing. Gameplay is what I was looking for, good arcade, fast paced. This is what I wanted for BO. Way better than BO4. If you liked BO 1-2 just take it. For next-gen console player it’s a most too.

    But I digress, Cold war has everything I want in Cod. Good zombies with well rounded guns that work amazingly, Free content for all gamemodes and a brillant mindbending campaign.     Don't listen to to the complaints. I am a long term fan of the series and love this game! I was super hesitant about buying it, I almost returned it before I even opened it. Thank God I didn't. I have sank 20+ hours in in a week, lol. I hope Treyarch doesn't change a thing (besides QoL changes and server stability). I sat the last 2 COD's out because I was getting sick of the same old.     Unlike Modern Warfare, this game is NOT for camping scrubs. You won't be able to hide in windows or high platform vantage points everywhere for free kills and that's why it's getting such low scores. This is what Call of Duty USED to be 10 years ago, and it's finally back

    The game is broken and doesn't even work!! I bought the game for the campaign. When i put the disc in it gave me just 2 instillation options to choose from. One was multiplayer and the other some silly zombies mode. I have no interest in either, i just want the campaign, so i installed everything. Once installed i fired up the campaign. It only allowed me to play the first intro level. When trying to play the second level it keeps saying the content is not installed!! I have installed everything you possibly can, and there is nothing left installing in the backround on my Playstation 5, everything is installed. I looked for help online and see many people having this issues, but found no real solution for it. I see some people say you have to install the campaign in 3 parts and get them from the Playstation store. 1. Why on earth would i have to do thati own the disc? 2. There is nothing on the store apart from content they want you to pay for. And none of it says its anything to do with the campaign, its all to do with multiplayer. And i've already paid £70 for the disc it should come with the full campaign on it, i'm not paying for anything else. Then i read someone else say i need to unistall and reinstall something called a battle net!! What on earth is a battle net when its at home!? So i'm left with a broken game that i paid £70 and waited 2 days to install only so i couldn't play it. Whatever happened to the days you just whacked a disc in and off you went? Needless to say i'll be fighting for a refund, even through the small courts if i have to. A total shambles. The last COD game i play that's for sure. Really annoyed me this has.… Expand

    I like this game because the campaign is pure nostalgic of Black Ops 1, see again mason, woods, hudson is awesome and the history and levels are very original. The multiplayer is really enjoyable with a lot of modes and the updates like DLC is FREE!. Zombies I would like more maps but there is only one :(

    Best Call of Duty since CoD Black Ops (1). No more camping possible like in Modern Warfare and so much better maps. Thank you treyarch! Thank you for going back to the roots!

    - constant disconnections
    - mediocre graphics
    - zombies is fun but there is only one map so it gets old

    I usually love COD multilayer but this game feels horrible. It’s a combination of the movement mechanics, poor connections, enemies are so hard to see, poor map design. Don’t waste your money

    Zombie map is great, but no splitscreen? I mean realy?? Also everytime you try to split screen in online mp the game crashes. Treyarch should feel ashamed to put this €80 game on the market.

    So where do i begin. I play on the pc and i played modern warfare before this and i loved it. I recognize that the game is set in a time before all the tech of mw. However if they were going for that dated feel the definitely got it. The optics feel less crisp and the gunplay is meh. honestly all the guns feel assault rifles feel the same recoil wise. and the graphics feel almost cartoony. This is probably due to their color selection. Its like its out of a box of crayons instead of the real life. The colors just lack the proper contrast and this leads to a loss of detail and variation. Looking at the guns themselves they look like they are from Black opps 2 graphicly. They just lack some of the sharper depth and angles and color contrast. This doesnt feel 4k at all.
    Now lets get to the real goods the bugs. they are small little bugs that are everywhere and its little things that should have been caught like respawn times not counting down and audio foot steps not subsiding when you quit walking. well i guess the audio is a big one The whole audio is broken you cant hear anything until the dude is on top of you and the sound that you make feels like its outrageous. I'm giving it a one because it does bring some more interesting dynamic maps especially in the ground war area of scale. It also has a new game mode which is like a mini royal game called dirty bomb that's actually pretty fun and of course zombies. The fact that there is exfill and zombies as a whole feel way more immersive with set endings to the game or being able to continue on. Its fresh with a hint of nostalgia I'm actually liking that. However I don't feel like zombies is worth the 70 dollars of the whole game. Well i guess ill give it a 2 for zombies.    … Expand

    Downgrade from modern warfare.......it has its moments......zombies is fun.....multiplayer has its ups and downs.....the look and feel is an acquired taste......I hope they keep modern warfare mechanics in warzone instead of switching over to Cold War mechanics

Map design is also garbage with either a map favoring one side or just designed really dumb to be too big or too small with a random spawn system that trash. For 60- 70dollars this is all the content you get for a triple A game. The only good thing that this game have is zombie and even that is still **** First, it takes you more than 5-10min to find a zombie lobby and even then when you start you have a 50% chance of getting disconnected either from the game for going to long or losing connection to the host for no reason. Oh and lets not also mention the spawning and respawning of the zombie and boss zombie which can practically teleport all over the map and if you happen to miss or just stand for like 1 second to where one of the teleport location is you just get one shoted by the boss out of nowhere as they can just teleport to your location if you get too far which mind you is probably just a short run away. Oh did I mention they already have cash shop item since the game launched yep a 60-70 dollar game launching with little content wants to launch a cash shop first before content.… Expand

Zombies sticks to the core values that made it a fan favorite while adding tasteful additions on how to upgrade armor, weaponry, and lethals.

    The bad: $70 for a game with 6 multiplayer maps at launch is appalling. You will be playing the same maps over and over and over again, especially considering the voting system. SBMM is back! Instead of casually playing the game - you will have an amazing three game run then have to sweat out the next 3 playing against MLGs. Weapon progression is sloth-like slow. I am prestige 1 and still have not maxed out a gun, granted I switch up between 3 or 4 weapons. Snipers are useless as they nerfed the **** out of them because of whiny cry babies. There are definitely bugs even tho I haven't come across many. The main bugs I'm having are with Zombies matchmaking.

    Thankfully, a few of the early bugs were ironed out of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and subsequent season passes have patched up modes and maps that were lacking. The campaign is genuinely intriguing but may not appeal to those who just want to run and gun. Zombies and Multiplayer modes are plentiful and there should be something for everyone to thoroughly enjoy. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War should be used as the poster child for PlayStation 5's DualSense controller which has been put to full use for an immersive experience. Casual players will be somewhat put off by the sheer storage space required to fully experience everything that is on offer, especially given that SSD capacity is this generation's gold dust, but Call of Duty die-hards will most likely overlook this.

    I have no doubt that the latest Call of Duty will earn ridiculous amounts of money once again, but I will remember it as a dip in form, a game that’s closer to mediocrity than greatness. The story campaign has a satisfying finale but as a whole is rather uninspired, while the multiplayer has lost the tactical feel I enjoyed in Modern Warfare Remastered. [01/2021, p.56]

    Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the video game equivalent to that one kid in class with a sugar rush and an addiction to pixie sticks. Sure, it might be entertaining for a little while, but the more time you spend with it, the more you realize it’s just rambling on aimlessly. Ultimately, with its lack of a clear vision and focus on what makes a game fun, Cold War isn’t going to entertain you for long.
