    This game has SBMM that is making the game so unenjoyable to play if ur anything over a new player level. One simple fix would be to remove SBMM and it adds variety to the gaming experience.

    One of the best call of duty games within a while now. The gameplay and mechanics of mp is so much better than mw19. The only reason people are hating is because they lakc any skill on the game. Graphics aren't everything and don't make a game it's solid gameplay and replay-abilities that does and cod cold war has that.     i've played all call of duty games and this one is one of the worst, hands down. huge steps back from modern warfare.. u had a masterpiece in ur hands, there was no need to make a new game... it was fine if u only kept the good work on modern warfare instead of making a new one. btw the only good thing of cold war is zombie.. all the rest i pure **** the aim assist is just an aimlock handsi've played all call of duty games and this one is one of the worst, hands down. huge steps back from modern warfare.. u had a masterpiece in ur hands, there was no need to make a new game... it was fine if u only kept the good work on modern warfare instead of making a new one. btw the only good thing of cold war is zombie.. all the rest i pure **** the aim assist is just an aimlock hands down. some weapons are not balanced at all. the shooting system is crap...… Expand

    Overall I wouldn't have payed 5 dollars for this game if I knew it was going to be this bad, it is completely terrible and I have basically nothing good to say about it and had 0 fun whatsoever in my few hours of playing.

    The devs should be ashamed for releasing a game of this level of quality. MW 2019 may have its flaws, but it is, quite literally - 10000x better than this ****    … Expand

    How the mighty have fallen - Cold war takes a step back in every conceivable way (the campaign being decent is it's saving grace). The multiplayer feels like it was a port from a game made 10 years ago and skill-based matchmaking seems to be intensified. Hard pass - For anyone expecting the quality that was last year's MW, - lower those expectations significantly

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a terrible game. The game play isn't engaging and the story is boring. The game is short and uninteresting. In addition, why do you let me choose my name and character attributes if I have no voice? Too cheap for voice actors? Don't give me options then. Who cares what I look like? Can't see me. The grenade indicator doesn't show up half the time and then suddenly I'm blown up. No explanation for my deaths. My campaign teammates constantly run out in front of me while shooting or run right out where I've pitched a grenade, and then I'm penalized back to the start of the section for friendly fire. Clearly the AI was made my interns. May just be me but the bullets don't seem particularly accurate. Definitely cheaped out on the collectibles and the whole game feels rushed and cheap. I only paid $40 for cross gen edition and I feel like that was a rip off. I am not even sure I'll even finish the game. Wish I had bought a disc version so I could sell it today.… Expand

    The multiplayer is a cheater heaven. Thought hey no cheaters after my first games, but seems that was a very short lucky streak. Seems worse than warzone after playing for some time. Bought the game on sale but if it's only some fun to play single player it's was still much too expensive.

    Gave it a 3 for the single player part. I was wrong it's a gracious zero. Just had a mission following four cars in a helicopter. When stopping the cars two exploded, and the other two seem to have been kind of clown cars where over 100 people got out and started shooting. The Story is good but it ultimately falls flat. There are multiple ending which I respect but this could lead to an unsatisfying ending. Multiplayer is the biggest issue with this game. It doesn't feel good to play and isn't fun to play. I believe there are many reasons for this but the biggest is due to not implementing what MW did. Instead, they almost ignore all the good MW did and revert back to what COD was a couple years ago. I was hoping this series would continue to evolve but it looks like Treyarch is stuck in the past. Overall this game is a 7/10. It's not great but it's not bad. I wouldn't rush out to buy this game, especially because you can play Warzone which is a much better COD experience .… Expand

    Great game with reused maps from Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, Infinite Warfare, and even Advanced Warfare. It's especially great on PS5 with the triggers pressure sensitive feature. Multiplayer is the best ever. To me it's like Black Ops 2 but even better with bringing 1 to 6 maps back from every COD game made almost. It's very fast and you'll do excellent if you have a 120 Hz TVGreat game with reused maps from Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, Infinite Warfare, and even Advanced Warfare. I did not play this at launch and really don’t care about unlocking things, season passes, or finding an on-line group for zombies mode.

    The worst of this game is its enormous file size. Over 170GB of Call of Duty that included a lot of Call of Duty that I did not want and do not need. I think purpose is to so overload your hard drive that you have no space for the competition. No thanks. As soon as I finished the campaign, I freed up my hard drive space. Also bad, Activision wanted me to make an Activision account before unlocking on-line play. Hard pass. Now that Microsoft owns Activision, I am sure this will soon require a Microsoft account. Also a hard pass.

    The campaign itself is hit and miss. Everything looks a little more PS5 than PS4, which is a nice departure from the last console transition. Remember the lackluster graphics of Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4? The levels are straight from the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Small, linear, and with little fanfare. Remember when games did wild things like have you fight through a building as it toppled over? The set pieces here are mostly reserved for cut scenes. The a.i. is also brain dead. I hear a lot about advances in a.i. yet video game a.i. seemed better in the early 2000s than it does now.

    Gameplay in the campaign is a mix of stealth and traditional Call of Duty. This is no Hitman. Stealth levels are small and stealth actions are stiff. I appreciate the series trying something new. I would have appreciated if the effort was more successful. Really not sure how a war game was going to handle the Cold War. But somehow I am supposed to believe that a small invasion of Russia and Cuba was somehow not going to set off World War III. Something like the old 007 games would have been a better choice. The campaign itself is rather short, 6 hours. Not really worth your hard drive space.

    Because I didn’t make an Activision account, I never tested the on-line game. Does it even matter? The Call of Duty Series is several games past Cold War. I’m sure some people are still playing and I guarantee that their XP unlocks and years of map knowledge means that I am no match for them. Call of Duty needs a neutral game mode like the old Overwatch; something people feel free to jump into at any time.

    The Zombie mode is available for off-line solo play, and I gave it a try. It is interesting, but really made for a larger group. I appreciated the use of color and rounding out a $70 game as a total package for those willing to buy it at launch.

    All-in-all, Call of Duty: Cold War is an interesting experiment like Battlefield: Hardline (the cops versus robbers game). Sure, it didn’t really work, but at least Activision tried. Shame on Activision for souring its product with giant download sizes and an emphasis on signing up for the in-game store. Funny enough, I’ve never actually bought a Call of Duty game even though I have played through most of them. I really don’t get why people buy into this.    … Expand

    Just... downloads! The campaign takes as long to download as it takes to finish. Even if you purchase the disc version you have tho download the campaign! In three parts. There different down load for textures. Separate downloads for multi-player, splitscreen, and more to play zombies. Utter crap!

That they couldn’t just put on the disc… downloading multiplayer and zombies makes sense because its primarily online.. but a 4 hour long campaign, it’s a joke…
    I for one do understand why so many people love call of duty, its multiplayer, and thankfully its just as fun here as its ever been with all of its modes outside of team deathmatch.. that’s usually my favorite mode, but I just wasn’t feeling the maps this year in deathmatch, but I had an absolute blast anyway for hours playing that ultra addicting, spawn shoot die gameplay, and its been a hwile since ive played a call of duty game.. since ww2.. so im not sure if these things are new but I am loving the instant respawns here on the next gen.. and I also appreciate that camping snipers have a little reflection to give away their location.. ive never been a fan of zombies mode, its obviously here.. I cant fairly critique it as it just isn’t my thing… but the main reason I play a call of duty game, at least in my currently life where I don’t have the time to sink days into multiplayer is the campaign.. but thankfully I do have the fun and addictive multiplayer to play through while it takes more hours to download than it does to actually play…
    Here you play as yourself, during the cold war, and the campaign actually started with tons of promise.. I wouldn’t mind if every year we got a well told 3-4 hour long story full of amazing set pieces and a mind blowing experience to compliment the fun multiplayer, and this campaign had its moments, it felt like an interactive movie with great moments and missions, some of the best stealth missions ive ever experienced in a first person shooter, but halfway through the campaign just falls apart, it becomes generic first person shooter level design and story telling, theres even a section of the game here youre redoing the same thing like 5 times in a row… that’s how much you can tell the creative juices have evaporated after an impressive start.. I didn’t want to stop playing, but I had to to let part 2 download… such a let down…
    Call of Duty is what it is…
    You know what youre going to get every year…
    it never changes outside of the setting..and this is where the let down comes into play
    Im personaly okay with a little 4 hour journey each year, but please put a little more effort and see that effort through, especially if again,, its only going to be 4 hours… it better be solid.
    But at least you have some new maps to play with.

    We have 4 modes that are all very relevant and fun to play. Let me detail. First, there is the Campaign, and I was very much surprised to see the devs actually worked on a simple yet cool good old Cold War story involving CIA (obviously). Missions take place in various beautiful    What started with a very disappointing Beta ended up in being a very good and thorough Call of Duty game.

    We have 4 modes that are all very relevant and fun to play. Let me detail.

    First, there is the Campaign, and I was very much surprised to see the devs actually worked on a simple yet cool good old Cold War story involving CIA (obviously). Missions take place in various beautiful environments and I thus was surprised with the final quality. Sure, the story is cliché. But that’s good enough to put you in a CW mood. It is clearly not revolutionizing the genre, but CW is good at doing what we already know fitted in a new –relatively cool – story.

    Then, you have Multiplayer, and in extension, Ranked Play. Overall, the multiplayer mode of BOCW is solid and relatively balanced (if you don’t take into account the post-release added guns). The maps, despite many being recycled, are not too bad either. I was of course delighted to see that a Ranked Mode was added. A shame it is that the actual ranking system is uninteresting. It works on a division-based system that refreshes every few days. Because of that, you don’t really have anything to grind, as opposed to what we have already seen in games such as Call of Duty World War 2, whose Ranked system was way more attractive to the player.

    As for the Zombies mode, it is simply put very detailed and plays extremely well. I am delighted to see some maps were added freely into the game with post-release updates, and the Onslaught mode – in which the player gets to fulfill objectives on large open maps –also allows for long and intense games that even require their fair share of teamwork.

    All of above is of course positive thanks to the core gameplay of Black Ops Cold War that I find to be very enjoyable. Weapons handling works great and feels realistic enough. The sounds, despite not being on par with the excellent Modern Warfare, are nice enough to make you really enjoy hearing weapons firing, and more generally speaking using them. This all sounds silly, but it is not the case for every FPS (or even Call of Duty). I like to handle my gun in this game, and it is for example not the case in Call of Duty Vanguard (both Alpha and Beta).

    In conclusion, I am very happy to have waited to buy my PS5 to then buy this game. It makes a really nice FPS introduction to the PS5 with its 120fps 4K, and actually delivers quite great at everything, without revolutionizing anything either. I recommend this game and hope that the next Call of Duty Vanguard can at least be 80% as good.    … Expand

    Excellent single player campaign. Gunplay is amazing. Graphics and music soundtrack are great. Multiplayer is fun and addicting. MP maps are awesome including Nuketown!

    Customization options and the progression system are excellent. I love the new 'everyone gets a trophy' scorestreak system. Blops Cold War is a great and entertaining entry in the series.

    Once again the trayak team creates a fun Black Ops game with some really interesting plot points and if you ignore how a horrible every person in this story then it's very enjoyable.

    The gameplay is a world machine. It feels very good to shoot the guns and to campaign the missions sneaking shooting the plot points my favorite mission was the one where you're playing as a Russian Kgb    Once again the trayak team creates a fun Black Ops game with some really interesting plot points and if you ignore how a horrible every person in this story then it's very enjoyable.

    The gameplay is a world machine. It feels very good to shoot the guns and to campaign the missions sneaking shooting the plot points my favorite mission was the one where you're playing as a Russian Kgb agent.

    It's just fun dumb I am not gonna think about the story anymore or the characters. I just hope the characters burn in a fire somewhere specially Woods but then I had my fun playing this mindless game.    … Expand

    The Bad:
    -Skill based matchmaking ruins this game. Games go from fun enjoyable times to boring slogs or complete sweaty matches where you have to try really hard. It flip flops constantly and can leave a person feeling mixed, or just tired of playing really quickly.

    -The Multiplayer maps are mostly all bad. Raid, Express, and Nuketown are fine, but every other map is either too big, confusing, or gives me eye strain. The maps when looking at them from a distance mesh weirdly, and as a result you'll have issues finding people which will eventually lead to you being shot by someone you couldn't see(this happens a lot).

    -It takes a long time to find zombie games, and even when you do they usually don't last long whether its because of a ragequit, people not working together, or the next issue im bringing up:

    -Connection issues. Yep this game still has them. I've been disconnected from games multiple times, even a SOLO GAME. My internet is working perfectly fine, so its confusing that call of duty after many years of release still fails to improve upon its connect, and suffer from host migrations as well.

    -The game asks for a lot in many different areas. It's 190 gb big, which is absurd even by triple A standards, its 10 dollars more than the industry standard(70 dollars), and it asks you to buy a battle bass to get tier rewards. Everything feels incredibly grindy and it just isn't fun.

    The Ugly:
    -The game runs incredibly choppy at times, even on a PS5(Which is supposed to be the big next gen console), prepare for random frame drops, they'll show up eventually.

    -CoD Points.

    -Prop Hunt is worse now, it seems more heavily favored for the hunters, as the movement as a prop can be sluggish.

    -While zombies is fine, it still feels relatively weak and not as charming or as fun or adrenaline pumping as previous zombie modes, but it is better than CoD WW2's zombies, 100%.

    -Familiar characters such as Woods and Mason in the campaign have different voice actors that don't really sell it for me, and Wood's dialogue infamously said some stupid thing about an Onion.

    -The plot twist at the end of the campaign is pretty obvious.

    Overall this game is a trashfire. It doesn't deserve your money, its a boring slog, and I can't see any reason to pick it over other fps games out right now. Not even the good campaign can save this one.

    I'm am comparing cold war to black ops 4, because I only care abot treyarch when it comes to call of duty. The game is about 200gigs without the campaign so it took me a while to download it with my 10mbit internet, but that's not the game's problem. Multiplayer is fun, there are plenty of weapons to choose from and all maps are unlocked no season pass needed. The only problem is that itI'm am comparing cold war to black ops 4, because I only care abot treyarch when it comes to call of duty. The game is about 200gigs without the campaign so it took me a while to download it with my 10mbit internet, but that's not the game's problem. Multiplayer is fun, there are plenty of weapons to choose from and all maps are unlocked no season pass needed. The only problem is that it won't keep you playing, other than a few basic weapon skins, you won't get any rewards by simply playing the game and spending the briefcases on legendary cosmetics and weapons... You will have to buy everything with call of duty points which i wll not give money for. Sure there are weapon blueprints that you can unlock every second prestige, but they make no sense to me, when you can customize the weapons anyways... Zombies is boring this time, unlike it was in black ops 4. There were exciting maps and could be prestige mastered easily by solo playing it with bots, but this time it's confusing, and too hard alone... Also there is a glitch that always shows you lvl1 when you start up the game, and you will have to complete a multiplayer match to see what level you really are, and they won't fix it for months now...… Expand

    The only reason I got this game is because my cousins asked me to join them in Zombie and Multiplayer games, but other than that I found the campaign to be so generic and boring, there is nothing special about it's story other than it being a rehashed surfaced level fantasy of war without any actual heart or real research.     Got it for free on PS plus, I really wanted to like this game but even for free it's not worth playing, very poor game. I pity the people who've paid for this scam of a game. I thought about mentioning the errors and flaws in my review but you can write off the entire game as a huge error, RIP call of duty. I'm not going to give this franchise another chance even for free... Pathetic game

Cold War had some interesting approaches yet it didnt bring up the intensity of other titles in the series. The engine runs okay-ish but I had to battle against some motion sickness.     Another stupid thing is that the game tries to connect you to the servers before you are able to select what you want to play. Sometimes I was kept in queue but was able to jump back into the game via PS5 quick actions. This shows, that there is something very wrong with the game presents itself.

    The engine itself looks beautiful and the sound design is amazing. The RT feels minor im comparison to other title but still gives a decent mix of detail to the game. Loading times were okay-ish, I had one error loop which cured after closing the game and restarting the mission. After all the CoD games consume way too much disk space even if you only install partials.

    Altogether this lead me to a 7/10. Campaign didnt feel as strong as other installments. Engine was fine but has some hiccups. The Dual Sense implementation is very well made I have to admit. The guns feel different and characteristic but I still think many people will just deactive this feature. Have the crank on a shotty especially against zombies was worth it.    … Expand

    I like this game kinda. Its so intense and fun with zero bugs as of 12/12/20. I dont get all the negativity towards the game, all the evidence you have to read & collect Intel somewhat gets old.

    This is the worst nightmare for a real CoD fan. Played every game in the saga (not portable spinoffs) since original CoD on my Pentium III. This isn't nightmarish as a product itself. It is after the release of Modern Warfare. It was like Activision telling the fanbase "hey, let's go back 5 or 6 years boys". And that's enough for me. 1/10

    Играть приятно. Шутерная часть наконец то вернулась к Modern Warfarовской, вообще игры очень похожи. В игре всё на месте, миссии разнообразные. Есть на воздухе, есть в помещениях, есть стелсовые, даже есть одна вообще без оружия.
    Да, появилась видимость нелинейности. Можно выбирать миссии в любом порядке, их можно перепроходить, а некоторые и пропускать. Опять таки не знаю, если бы я в конце выбрал другой вариант ответа, финал изменился бы?
    Ещё появились диалоги, можно поболтать, а можно и забить на это дело.
    По началу, конечно, начал огорчать сюжет. Но потом я вспомнил, что это же Black Ops! А все Black Opsы отличались такой дикостью сюжета происходящего в какой то параллельной вселенной, что даже стало смешно!
    Короче история настолько тупая и неправдоподобная, что даже становится интересной. Абсолютно ничего того, что происходит в игре, в реальной жизни не было. Иногда даже наоборот, американцы свои реальные преступления, в сюжете приписали русским. Клоуны блин! И вообще всё это мне напомнило такие фильмы как Рэмбо 2, 3, 4, настолько тупые, что даже смешно!
    Да, взрослому человеку это не помешает, а вот детям в сюжет играть я бы не посоветовал. Ведь они воспринимают всё, что происходит на экране за правду, а это опасно.
    И так резюмирую. Имеем невероятно красивую, невероятно современную и невероятно тупую игру.

With Cold War, I find myself enjoying the maps thoroughly, with even the worst maps still being enjoyable. Maps such as The Pines and the updated Miami (Miami Strike) are welcome additions. Killing someone in one area of The Pines then running through the hallways to shoot another is exciting. Miami Strike is an improved Miami, in a smaller space that enables fighting. I have to say that the map that didn’t land for me at all was Satellite, and even then I still find enjoyment while playing on it. We see the return of incredible maps as well such as Nuketown (in the form of Nuketown ‘84) which makes me more interested in playing previous instalments. There are many incredible game modes to play on these maps as well, including a personal favourite: Search And Destroy. Every game feels new and exciting, while allowing me to consistently improve. The main reason I didn’t give this game a 10/10 however, is the fact that the game often freezes and lags, even when my internet connection is perfect. It does often get in the way of fully enjoying the game to it’s potential. This game was an excellent introduction into the world of Call Of Duty for me, making me excited for future games in the franchise.    … Expand

    another fine example of pay to win BS. multiplayer is fun, but not when you're level 24 and you are playig against people with level 3000+ and higher, and have guns with zero recoil and heat vision. but don't fret, if you don't want to grind to get better gear, you can just buy better guns for actual money. so yes on to[p of the $$ for the game, you'll have to spend more just to compete.

    Call of duty campaigns have become notoriously linear and with that, notoriously repetitive, and whilst they cannot be compared to massive open world games, the lack of progress in moving away from the linear storyline has really started to frustrate me over the last few years. The campaign was a good mix of everything you'd come to expect with a Call of Duty game - Lots of shooting, lots of blowing up and slow motion carnage.

    On the negative side for the campaign, upon progression to the final mission I am literally on the edge of my seat with excitement. I'm pausing the game and telling my partner (who isn't a gamer) in excrutiating detail what's just happened and why it's so awesome. At the time, I'm considering it one of the top Call of Duty campaigns and I'm ready to see what happens next. I press "X" in eager anticipation........ and the credits roll.

    For those who have experienced this ending, they'll understand that the game ends just as we've got to the most exciting part. It feels unfinished, but at the same time doesn't end on any type of cliffhanger... The game was oustanding, but I was just left a bit unfulfilled. Hard to explain.

    Zombies for me is a no-go. I'm a 30 year old guy who doesn't have a massive amount of time on his hands, I want to go into a game that'll last 30 to an hour at a time. My mates have spent entire nights on Zombies. May be for some people, but definitely not for me, but I realise that this is down to circumstances so haven't actually included this in my review.

    Now for the (extremely) bad. Multiplayer is nothing short of a mess. Modern Warfare was extremely slow, but they've literally gone from the slowest call of duty, to one of the fastest I can remember. The only saving grace is that they've not included the verticality of the previous exo-suit versions, meaning that you know everyone is going to be 'ground-level'.

    However, the speed in which players move is just outrageous and the main reason I'm writing this review. You barely get a chance to see anyone and they've sprinted rings around you and wiped you out. Again, I realise I may be getting old and maybe the reactions might not be where they used to, but it's really not what I expect from a modern day CoD game.

    Time to kill is increased, making the above issue even worse. Add both of these factors to cross-play, and what you have is an extensive advantage for PC players who with the much quicker movement, give me no chance in being able to track them and get a shot off, never mind actually kill them.

    There have been a number of occassions where I have been shot by someone directly infront of me, and I mean literally standing in front of me (as shown by the kill cam). However I don't even get a chance to see them. Having recorded my gameplay, on several of these occassions the player hasn't even shown on my screen. As other players have said, what a horrendous buggy mess.

    The gameplay of multiplayer is the type of level that will prevent me buying a CoD game in the future. The bugs are pretty outrageous for a AAA title, however I can appreciate with Covid some of these will have slipped through the net in the way that we all have to work from home, developers will be no different.

    Essentially, Cold War is essentially half a capaign and a weapon expansion pack for Warzone to me. The one star is for how good the campaign was, but the rest is a total mess.    … Expand

    Pro's:
    Campaign Time: I don't have time to play hours and hours of games. This campaign is short and ideal to play over the weekend as you can complete it in around 5-6 hours.

    Level Design: The level design is a big plus for this game. The levels in Vietnam, Berlin for example are rich in detail and well crafted. The level in Vietnam was the highlight of the campaign.

    Music: This is a big plus to the campaign. I loved the music and I can definitely see a lot of effort that went into creating it.

    Story: Story was immersive though it's not the biggest reason why someone would pickup this game.

    PS5: The adaptive triggers and the haptic feedbacks elevate the gameplay experience.

    Texture quality: Probably, one of the overlooked aspect of this game is the texture quality. Apart from Demon's souls, I haven't seen a single game which had high texture quality like COD. I would rate Demon's souls and COD on the top over other games for how good the texture quality is. The details on the ground, on the leaves don't feel like a cheap gimmick but rather filled with details.

    Note:
    I have not played many COD games so I am not able to compare it with the other games. Irrespective of how other COD games were, the story, the level design, music, gameplay is pretty good and I think the campaign deserves a good rating.

    Another Note: I had my set of problems with the game's ridiculous ways of downloading the campaign. I had to search in Youtube because it wasn't obvious. Moreover, 200 gb is crazy. However, I am rating the game solely based on the campaign and the gameplay for the campaign and I think they executed the campaign well.

    Also, it's not worth 70$. Buy it on a sale if you are planning to play it for campaign solely. 9 because it is expensive and the campaign download was just plain stupid.    … Expand

    I'm so tired of how bad the casting is for these games. The voices are silly and the movement acting, or whatever they do for CGI is serious crap and not authentic looking. It looks like a joke.

    Some of the voices sound like a cartoon and it completely takes away form the vibe of the game. It's getting on my nerves.

    This rating is just for the story! I did not touch the Multiplayer. All in all I liked the story very much! The locations were cool, the characters were pretty good, the gameplay felt smooth, the missions had a good pace in between slow and a lot of well known CoD action!     Bought modern warfare and this one at the same time. Finished modern warfare first and then started this one. This one is ok, but the mechanics are not as fun, the campaign is pretty bland so far. Feels less real, and more arcadey, in modern warfare I really felt I was there clearing room by room. I'm just not feeling this one

    I am a Call of Duty Player since Black Ops 3, and even if a lot of people hate it, it's the best since I started playing. The story is quite short, but full of interesting missions. The Zombie Mode is just perfect and i love to play it with my friends. The power ups, the map, everything is just right. I cant wait to play the new map, which btw will be free, which is nice of treyarch. Cold War pretty much ruined Modern Warfare and Warzone. Warzone was fun before Cold War even released.

    Zombies is obviously the same sort of deal: Grab weapons, kill zombies, complete Easter eggs and survive for as long as you can, however, I actually really enjoy playing Cold War Zombies. I personally enjoy playing the new mode named Outbreak, however, the other zombie modes are good to an extent, but it gets very repetitive, obviously.

    I'm not even gonna touch League Play.

    Overall, this is a solid title as of 18/06/2021, however, when it launched, it was very stale. Cold War is fun for a certain amount of time, but I find myself going back to Modern Warfare 2019 and even older titles and play for hours and hours.     MP is a huge step back from previous Black Ops games. All design choices favour campers and headglitchers... In the past it was easy to punish these types of players but this new game punishes rushing and quick game play... The maps are designed for you to hide and wait, footsteps are way too loud, the screens shake too much when you run and the sprint out time is ridiculously alow

Despite the opening statement this game doesn’t do everything wrong but the issues listed above make the game legitimately painful to play. I have been playing this franchise since the original modern warfare and to see the steady decline of this franchise is heartbreaking. Black ops Cold War is COD at its lowest point. It’s criminal that activision and treyarch expect people to pay 60-70$ for a game that seems like it’s still in beta. If you are a casual player that average to above average at call of duty, a person that can use their thumbs, or a person that would like a casual call of duty experience, I urge you to not buy this game. I can almost guarantee that within 2-3 hours you WILL NOT BE HAVING FUN solely due to the skill based matchmaking. I appriciate the step in the right direction with added optional objectives to further the story so its not just a straight forward run and gun cod game. The Moscow kgb mission is one of the best I've played in a while, had strong Goldeneye vibes.     Warzone interaction is a little spotty, but I expect it to be ironed out in the future. Adaptive triggers on ps5 is neat, but I disabled after a few multiplayer rounds as it hurts my fingers after a while.

Let’s start off with the worst thing about the game, SBMM! Not only that but there are reports of skill based aim assist. This is truly disgusting. The guns in the game feel plastic and nowhere as good as MW2019. Graphics are fine but again MW2019 does it one better. Maps are bad, at least before season one comes out there are basically two maps I find acceptable. Moscow and nuke town are the only maps i will play in as the other maps are just flat out horrible. Not all is bad with the game however, gunsmith is slightly improved and zombies fun with friends but i assume you don’t have any since you are on metacritic looking at reviews.     Campaign is fantastic, and builds off of some of the mechanics from BO2. Multiplayer i feel is better than modern warfare, but if you prefer higher ttk go play modern warfare or hardcore. It features new armor systems, and uncapped perks for the first time. I've sunk around 50 hours into so far. But if you just want to play zombies, i would recommend waiting for a sale. Also keep in mind for right now, Die Maschine is the only map on launch. Overall i would give the game 8/10. Personally, i would feel inclined to give it a 9/10, but so many people have seemed to face issues like console bricking, which i can't really give an opinion on as ive only played on PC.… Expand

    Animation is not fluid it looks like something from 10 years ago...Sbmm make it worst cant even enjoy the game..hit markers delays..map is ok but overall not a good experience for gaming..better play old blackops or mw...

    Multiplayer

    The worst part of this game is it’s multiplayer, broken at launch for PC, crashed and even bricked a few new gen consoles, bad servers. The guns and the TTK (time to kill). All the guns seem well balanced on the MP side (Not Warzone as of now) of Cold War with a few exceptions of tactical rifles, it seems these tactical rifles are always broken at launch the same with BO4s. The TTK is absolutely abysmal. Constant kill trading kill and die, kill and die, barely able to hit constant feeds. Scorestreaks only seem to be the biggest feed worthy use. Scorestreak system is absolutely spoon feeding the bad children and slow dads who can get their streaks when they don’t deserve it. None are great most are bad. Of course perks are broken, Flak Jacket is the only first perk ran because you’ll never die to explosions if you have it on. Others are there but nothing astonishing, wildcards are ass period and busted, perk greed gives you the ability to run 6 perks with no repercussions whatsoever, OP. Horrible spawns on map, launched with only 6 6v6 maps and 2 12v12 maps and they’re all pretty cheese. God awful leveling system and weapon leveling as well as camo grinding. Slow and methodical boring and un-awarding attachments barely help you in all honesty, you could do just the same with no attachments. SBMM we already know how bad that is, not for COD public matches leave that in ranked (Which doesn’t exist as of now). The new bundles they’ve released with cosmetics have more flavor and character than the whole MP mode combined (I can see where the priorities are) loads of other stuff just not even worth listing, would be nitpicking at that point.     Just ruined my the integration from MW to Cold War. Bust Cold War meta weapons, bad UIX, garbage leveling. Still playable and obviously Activision money whale with all the F2P payers buying bundles.

    Zombies

    Probably the only redeeming quality of this game, ditching all that over complicated bullsh*t we’ve seen in the past couple of BO titles. Very good for casuals to enjoy, great lore and story so far for the hardcore fans. Quite sad to see no additional content drop for season 1 other than some sorry ass Christmas mode that’s over all just a paint over with some small tweaks. This is what most people enjoy about CW and they’re already put the zombies underwater with the lack of care.

    This review isn’t obviously the best but these are just my gripes with the game. Some find positives in the game where I can’t just see it. Obviously others have their own opinion but I just see a huge step backwards this year in comparison to last. C19 didn’t help either but there were developer woes way before this pandemic, Sledgehammer lost the show and it was given to Raven and Treyarch because it’s sledgehammer and we all know how they are. Thanking them for the cancerous micro transaction system known as supply drops.    … Expand

    Thankfully, a few of the early bugs were ironed out of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and subsequent season passes have patched up modes and maps that were lacking. The campaign is genuinely intriguing but may not appeal to those who just want to run and gun. Zombies and Multiplayer modes are plentiful and there should be something for everyone to thoroughly enjoy. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War should be used as the poster child for PlayStation 5's DualSense controller which has been put to full use for an immersive experience. Casual players will be somewhat put off by the sheer storage space required to fully experience everything that is on offer, especially given that SSD capacity is this generation's gold dust, but Call of Duty die-hards will most likely overlook this.

    I have no doubt that the latest Call of Duty will earn ridiculous amounts of money once again, but I will remember it as a dip in form, a game that’s closer to mediocrity than greatness. The story campaign has a satisfying finale but as a whole is rather uninspired, while the multiplayer has lost the tactical feel I enjoyed in Modern Warfare Remastered. [01/2021, p.56]

    Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the video game equivalent to that one kid in class with a sugar rush and an addiction to pixie sticks. Sure, it might be entertaining for a little while, but the more time you spend with it, the more you realize it’s just rambling on aimlessly. Ultimately, with its lack of a clear vision and focus on what makes a game fun, Cold War isn’t going to entertain you for long.
