    Pretty fun downtime game or maybe family game enjoyed trapping some of the wild and unique BugSnaxs! And since i got it for free with PS+ even better !

    Very meh game. It was fun at the start but got extremely repetitive soon after. There's nothing next gen about the game apart from the triggers, but not even that will save it. I ended up deleting the game after a few hours of play as I was too bored of it, so glad it was a free PSN game and I didn't buy it.

    At first it seems really psychedelic, but then it gets stuck between a kid's game and something for adults. While wanting to be both of those, it becomes neither. And there's too much f***ing propaganda in video games now, as well.

    Its a boring game, but at least its short to complete and I played it for "free" with PS plus. I give a 5 because I think developers put a lot of love and charisma on this game.

    BUGSNAX Review: 7.5/10
    Tried it thanks to PS Plus! It has his own identity and performances are top notch. Meeting these different characters it's what made it interested to collect and catch as many Bugsnax as I could.

    Certainly unique, but absolutely RIDDLED with bugs and glitches, even months after launch. Expect to see NPCs suddenly "vanish" and need to repeat certain side-quests. Also disappointing to see the world split up into TINY 'levels' which long loading times between each - not what I'd expect from a PS5 game.

    Has the "gotta catch em all" appeal for the first couple of hours, then becomes quite repetitive. My favourite part was changing the Grumpus' body parts to see the different designs. Storyline was quite interesting considering this comes across as a children's game at first glance. Would not have bought this game if it wasn't free on PS Plus, but can appreciate it for what it is.

    I allowed my niece to play this game for 30 minutes since it was rated E, but then the game started with the homosexual agenda brainwashing. Got a refund right away, looked further into it. This is not a game for kids. There is even a scene where a character tries to commit suicide.

    Miyazaki's most ambitious title ever released, a completely new level in the souls-series which is a gaming marvel. Fans have waited so long on Bugsnax after a year and a half of no news nearly at all since the trailer in 2019. Hollowing fully, and questioning if the game even exists. It is a surreal experience for the community. But the surreality is in the game itself and with howMiyazaki's most ambitious title ever released, a completely new level in the souls-series which is a gaming marvel. Fans have waited so long on Bugsnax after a year and a half of no news nearly at all since the trailer in 2019. Hollowing fully, and questioning if the game even exists. It is a surreal experience for the community. But the surreality is in the game itself and with how incredible it is with the collaboration of legendary author George RR Martin. The voice acting, theme and script is incredible and on-par with any massive, legendary title. Fromsoft have taken a whole new initiative in an open-world with wandering bosses, politics, economy and covenant controlled regions or areas. In the verticality, brutality and atmospherics of the souls identity still masterfully in place. 330 hours in, and still feel like so much to do. They have absolutely won GOTY. Combat has sword play like Ghost of Tsushima but with heavier oof similarly to Dark Souls 1, but with Bloodborne's ferocity, axe-play like God of War and some of Sekiro's deflecting mechanics! Ooooh some of the best movement mechanics I have ever seen too. All the souls titles have seemed to come together and create the most in-depth game From has put out. Boss design is phenomenal and have carried on this the innovative, bizzare/horrifying and monstrous concepts. Some bosses wander well outside their 'scripted' locations and have very intelligent AI which is often terrifying. Such as rare behaviours where a boss climbs away and ambushes you later in an inconspicuous place. Most compelling is the illusive Glaive Master Hodir, the fights, mostly this one. Reduced me to tears, no film, nor game has ever done this to me.… Expand

    I really love the story. You actually feel the Grumpuses are real and the puzzle adventure mechanics in this game are well-executed. No wonder why Cyberpunk 2077 delayed their game. Most likely because of this game.

    JUST GOT MY PS5 CONSOLE AND DECIDED TO UPLOAD THE FIRST NEXT-GENERATION GAME. And Bugsnax is a perfect game to check out new features of PS5 like 4k/60fps and ray-tracing.
    Played about 4 hours by now and the gameplay is **** FREAKING SO FAR!!1 ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PLAY AS A STRAWBERRY. Haven't seen something like that in ages.     Bugsnax makes you feel like a delicious snack. It's a game I could not put down because the combat is so good. The world is fun to explore and the stories it has to tell are rich and compelling. And I’m already anxiously awaiting a sequel. Definitely the best souls-like game on the market.

This is one of those rare moments when I ding them for underestimating the joy and wonder of a smaller indie title. The game has a "less is more" feeling to it.    Kinda' bug and kinda' snack. If Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball had a baby with Pokemon, it would be Bugsnax.

In addition to spartan graphics, the game world is not at all bloated. My playthrough was a 13 hours to get a platinum trophy, which to be fair is twice the amount of time spent playing most Call of Duty campaigns.

    Like many PS5 buyers, I picked up Bugsnax for "free" with PS+ and it is one of my only true PS5 games. Other than short load times, I can also see this game as very playable on the PS4 or phones and tablets if Sony allows it. The concept is very familiar but also quite new. You catch Bugsnax but not in through and forget Pokeball or by sniping them from cover. The game gives you tools that work as a type of physics puzzle with no fixed solution. Sometimes the Bugsnax will knock each other out on their own and you can walk by and catch them. I love the open ended feel to the game mechanic. Except for a few instances, you can play your own way. While you are out in the wilderness, you can hear the Bugsnax call out with their names, like Pokemon, and the overall result is hilarious if you take a moment to enjoy it.

    The quests and side quests involve the odd Grumpuses. Unlike a human, a Grumpus has an enormous mouth hole and they toss the food straight into it. Feeding Grumpuses serves the purposes of missions but also fun. Their body parts will convert into Bugsnax and you can feed them however you want to transform them to your devious desires. This reminded me of the exploits in Skyrim that let you use the pickpocket skill to change an NPCs clothing. The character development and story progression are better than a game about Bugsnax might deserve.

    Just a side note for the SJW crowd: the Grumpus's on Snacktooth Island left the mainland because they felt marginalized by society. Marginalized Grumpuses may very well be different from you. This does not mean any agenda has been forced on you.

    Bugxsax is my 11th Platinum in a little of 6 years on PlayStation. This isn't because the Platinum is attainable. It is because I genuinely enjoyed the game. I hope Young Horses makes a sequel. I hope the sequel is just as simple and as charming as the original. I enjoy games that end. I enjoy one-off experiences. I enjoy smaller, cheaper games with new experiences.     I came into the game with an expectation that this was this generation's Knack, but I was honestly surprised. It's a nice relaxing game obviously marketed towards kids, but the characters are endearing to me and keeps me interested in the story. The mechanic of catching bugsnax is a bit janky, but for the most part, not bad. Also, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters and couples, withoutI came into the game with an expectation that this was this generation's Knack, but I was honestly surprised. It's a nice relaxing game obviously marketed towards kids, but the characters are endearing to me and keeps me interested in the story. The mechanic of catching bugsnax is a bit janky, but for the most part, not bad. Also, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters and couples, without making a huge deal out of it, is so nice to see normalized.… Expand

Bugsax drops you into one of the most immersive and jaw-dropping worlds I've ever seen. One where snacks are also bugs, but bugsBugsnax is the true definition of a next-generation experience. Such a masterpiece in game design was only possible thanks to the power of the PS5. It's literally is incapable of existing on any other system, even NASA computers. That's how cutting edge it is. Bugsax drops you into one of the most immersive and jaw-dropping worlds I've ever seen. One where snacks are also bugs, but bugs are also snacks. It's this dichotomy which shapes the entire experience, which deals in the complexities of the endless cycle of life and death. Bugsnax clearly draws strong thematic elements from other narrative-driven games like Bioshock and Hardcore Henry to craft its many wonders.

    Graphically, the game is a powerhouse. It literally has the most graphics out of every other game out there with graphics, which is to say a lot of games. My jaw hit the floor the moment I saw this game's opening until the moment I stopped playing. It was literally on the floor for so long that a dust bunny crawled into the back of my mouth and I experienced several minutes of coughing and had to pause the game to drink water. Only Bugsnax has ever provided this level of enhanced sensation from a video game. The immersion almost killed me. Incredible.

    Bugsnax, like Skyrim and Shaq-Fu before it, sucks you into its immersive world and doesn't let go. I remember starting Skyrim during the day and exiting long after the sun goes down with me not even feeling time passing. This game goes even further. Thanks to the PS5's processing capabilities which utilize Gatorade Nitrocide liquid quantum programing, I played Bugsnax for what felt like an hour, but the experience lasted for several years. I'm actually typing this review from 2023 aboard the SONY space colony, which is powered exclusively by thousands of copies of Bugsnax running on the PS5. This technology was deemed too powerful by all Earth governments to use on the planet's surface so it needed to be brought to space in order to remain legal under international law. Incredible.

    Bugsnax rewards the player by really making them FEEL like Batman. The bond you share with your Bugsnax friends in the game is akin to the Persona and Telltale franchises and mixes it with the creativity of Minecraft. You are free to bind with your Bugsnax compatriots as much as you like and I actually got emotional during a few of the sequences. The power of the PS5 trains your brain to view the Bugsnax with the same neurons that you view your own children with. I suffered horrible post-partum depression after shutting the game off due to the realization that my Bugsnax children would never be real. And I'm a man, so I shouldn't even know what that feels like. I may require serious therapy because of the immersion Bugsnax provides. Incredible.

    In conclusion, Bugsnax isn't so much of a game as it is a way of life. Sony have outdone themselves with both the PS5 and Bugsnax in a way that unfortunately spells the doom of the video game industry. Since there's never been a game as good at Bugsnax, nor will another game ever top it in the future, there will be literally no reason for anyone to not buy a PS5 and simply play Bugsnax until the day they die, which is, in a word, incredible.    … Expand

    Weird game. It's very easy, repetitive, and awkward as an adult, yet it's also quite inappropriate for kids. Just feels like a boring game that only became popular because of memes because of its weirdness, but the game itself is not worth playing, even for free.

    I was waiting for years to try out Bugsnax, the long awaited GOTY 2020 and I'm not disappointed! The creators of the legendary Knack PS4 exclusive (which was THE console seller for the PS4 in my opinion) have delivered in every aspect of thr gameplay. In addition the perfect story with great character development is written and directed by Hideo Kojima! This is the real successor of DeathI was waiting for years to try out Bugsnax, the long awaited GOTY 2020 and I'm not disappointed! The creators of the legendary Knack PS4 exclusive (which was THE console seller for the PS4 in my opinion) have delivered in every aspect of thr gameplay. In addition the perfect story with great character development is written and directed by Hideo Kojima! This is the real successor of Death Stranding and thus the second strand type game ever! Dunkey approved too btw. ;D

    My only criticism to this game is the missleading marketing showing screens of the early beta, before Kojima and FromSoftware were engaged in this artwork. If the game would be better advertised, it would sell better than Minecraft!

    This game makes Crysis look like ET, The Extra Terrestrial for the Atari 2600. If you try to run this on anything other than a PS5, it's gonna pop like a microwave full of aluminum.

    Great writing, amazing voice acting, lovable characters and engaging mechanics. At first I just wanted to know why the townspeople are begging you to transform them into freaks. Now I want to turn my legs into pretzels and live among the Grumbles.

What I did not expect was how hard the dev team worked to develop deep and personal backstories for all of its characters, in addition to an interesting and compelling story. The game play is fun, the story keeps you interested and it has that 90's cartoon thing going on where there are jokes made and messages sent that a younger person may not fully understand, but as an adult you catch and get a good laugh at. Overall as a free PS+ download this game is great and if your missing that window to get it free with PS+, it is still worth paying for.… Expand

    I love this game. Its the best of gaming merged into one thing, the graphics are so good the rtx 3090 probably can't run it. But it is so optimised that it run at a fluent 60fps. The game mechanics makes it so fun to play, the way your arm turns into a strawberry turns me from suicidal to ummm not suicidal. The way they used the ps5 controllers rumble makes my hand feel like its having anI love this game. Wanted it to be about the bugs not playing couples therapy for literally 3 couples. Completely was killing my motivation to play it with how frequent it was. Game was really buggy and not in a good way. Things weren't aiming right or enemies just vanishing. Some when I tried catching them completely crashed the game.     Bugsnax is essentially a Pokemon Snap type game. You go around photographing (scanning) Bugsnax to find out their behavior, likes and dislikes. There's a loose story of someone going missing that you need to track down, but the characters are so shallo and the plot so thin it's really not a driver to continue the game.

    Once oyu start meeting enough people, new parts of the world unlock, and new bugsnax become available to find. I decided to play it properly and scan and capture all the bugsnax as there's only 100 total.

    There's also clues around to find to progress through the story, but there's only a handful of them as they require little effort to find.
    The game is fairly simplistic and repetitive, however, once you embrace it as a walking simulator and start fulfilling the side quests it's easy to get absorbed in things.

    I do wish there was more to the game though, the characters are so incredibly shallow, and it became obvious the plot was basically only going to matter right at the end, which means throughout playing the game, there's just the snugsnax to scan and capture and a fairly small world to explore.

    However it's easy to just zone out and wlak around scanning and capturing the bugsnax without needing lots of story going on to bribe you. Some of the bugsnax are quite tricky to catch and involve using multipl types of trap together to successful catch them.

    I do wonder who this game was designed for though. As per the memes this game is so chidlish and silly than few adults would be tempted by this. But then when you play it you find the story gets pretty dark and gruesome, and paired with some some tough main quests, I can't see many children getting through this.

    I'm glad I played it though, it was an experience unlike many other (only thing similar is pokemon snap), but I'm glad I got it for free, as there's no way I could justify paying money on a game like this, and I can' see myself recommending this game to anyone either.

    I guess the moral of the story is don't trust the memes, like with Knack (which is a far superior game) sometimes you need to try things for yourself to find out if they're orth buying or not.
    This is why finding and buying games decades ago as so much easier. You could download demos and buy the full game if you liked the demo.    … Expand

Though bugsnax doesn’t quite have the magic a game like pokemon has, I never felt the urge beyond the first couple of hours to go out and catch them all... really only capturing the ones I needed to progress the story, and usually im a sucker for collect them all type games, but im just not wure what it was, weather its due to the fact this is simply a ftch quest game or that the areas youre running around are all bare bones and not fun or intriguing to explore, you get that feeling of, eh if I need this one ill come back and get it later,rather than feeling like you found a collectable that you need to grab right this moment… which a game like this should feel… scanning these creatures in the wild will give you hints on how to catch them, and some need caught later on after you aquire a new catching aid from the story…. But bugsnax overall is a really cute and charming game, it is enjoyable from start to finish, even if it doesn’t urge you to do much outside of mainlining… This is a hidden gem definitely worth your time, especially for those into collecting games… you’ll still have fun trying to collect them all until you’re over it…

    Part surreal, part heart-warming and part horrific. Bugsnax is one of the strangest games I've ever played. It goes all out on its unique premise and succeeds with flying colours. It's certainly not for everyone, but the brilliant characters and ridiculous world should entertain even the most skeptical of players. It goes right on my list of 'guilty pleasure games'.

    -The characters are all interesting in their own ways...even the ones i don't personally like, they have their own sidequests that eventually end up with them learning something by the end of them. its simple but not bad at all.

    -Hardly any glitches to note, nothing major, some minor things, but the game would usually quickly correct itself.

    -The bugsnax themselves all look great and have their own interesting patterns and routines with only a few being clones of each other.
    The Bad:
    -previously mentioned minor glitches

    -Catching certain types of bugsnax can be a bit janky, but there's workarounds.

    Bugsnax is overall great. It's simple, fun, and was a nice addition to ps plus with the PS5. I'd definitely recommend playing it through to the end, and even completing all the achievements, it might not be a super big groundbreaking video game, but it is still a helluva great time.    … Expand

    Very lovely, fun game, runs at a smooth 60fps in PS5. Took about 15 hours to platinum. Light hearted but interesting story with a dark twist and a good ending. My favorite PS5 game so far, uses the haptic triggers and rumble in a good but not excessive way.

    Relaixng and unique, got the Platinum for this in a couple of days because i enjoyed it so much. Very worth picking up for the PS5 if you want a different experience with genuinely excellent characters and much more story than initially meets the eye.

    A very fun game with pretty innovative game mechanics like the trap, trip shot and more. I enjoyed all of this gameplay and the platinum, and would recommend. It's on the short side story wise, but still packs a lot of lore and story anyway.

While it's definitely an indie game and many parts are unrefined, the core experience is a delightful one and playing in first person was definitely different from any game I've played in this genre. Collecting the different bugs was mostly a lot of fun, but sometimes very frustrating as the game doesn't always tell you what to do or how to do it while picking and choosing when they want to give hints. Other weird game making decisions included having really fun boss fights, but only if you found them through side-quests with none being in the main story. Overall this game is very weird but does have an odd level of charm to it, and right at the end they throw some big plot twists at you that I definitely didn't see coming, making the story value go from one of it's weakest elements to one of it's strongest right at the end.

    In short I enjoyed the time I spent with Bugsnax and am glad I decided to give this game a chance. It's far from perfect and is likely a game I'd never play again, but I believe the studio tried their best to make their vision come to life and did an excellent job with the means they had to do so. This is because there are many weird jokes that older people would understand, but also keeps the youngins' entertained. Just play the game.

    Gameplay wise it's really annoying in this day and age to bounce back off tiny hedges and such like that create invisible walls to keep you on a certain path.

    Bugsnax is a consistently enjoyable game from start to finish. It's core gameplay loop is very good but more than anything, you'll be returning to SnagTooth for the excellently written and acted characters. It's not a game for everybody and the gameplay loop can become tiring, but overall it's a great game and has a satisfying conclusion that makes the journey worth it.

    A perfectly portioned final course. Just as witty as everything that came before, with plenty more to chew on. Sometimes bigger really is just better. [Issue#15, p.82]

    It’s just a shame that the core gameplay here is so dull. Everything else in Bugsnax would make it a strong GOTY contender, but the sheer repetitiveness of the game’s main task drags it all down. Still, given how high the rest of the game flies, there’s only so far down it can go — and as it stands, that still means you’re left with one heck of a game.

    Bugsnax leans heavily on the unique nature of its titular creatures, and it succeeds by doing so. They’re cute, they’re creepy, and their existence makes no logical sense whatsoever. Armed with a bit of design this indelible, the developers could have phoned in the rest and raked in the merchandising money. Instead, they fully committed to delivering a narrative worthy of the creatures starring in it. It was a risky choice, but it was also a daring and clever one, and that’s exactly what it wants to be.
